  • One huge drive (network share) from many computers, with folder priority redundancy.

    Not sure if this exists, but I have a huge amount of data to store (about 5-50mb files) and as it is now, I have 5 computers, each with raid 5 providing about 6TB hard drive each. This is causing some problems with the software I am using (something home made) so I'm wondering, is there some software that I can install on all those computers that will mask it as one huge drive... Running windows on those computers, from Xp 64 bit to windows server 2008 I would also like to set a priority on each folder on the redundancy it has, some folders I can live without no online backup (I have a backup in a safe of that data) but some I need full online backup system if one hard drive fails. Something open source, as I try to use that as much as I can, but all ideas welcome.

    Hi there I'm a developer looking at introducing ClickOnce deployment for an internal .NET Winforms application that will be distributed via the corporate network. Now I would like to deploy this application under the full trust model however in order for that to happen I need to sign the software with a certificate. I can do that with a "test" certificate that has no information of the publisher etc, however that means an extra step will occur on the users workstation where they will have to confirm that the software is OK. So what I want to know is. is there a way I can get my IT Infrastructure guys to create me a an "internal" certificate from the domains Certificate Authority, or do I have to go and pay for a certificate from somebody like VeriSign?     Hi there, I'm thinking about signing up to the Amazon S3 storage service. What I want to do is create a service where other people can register their own bucket with a certain amount of storage. These users will install my software, which then uploads their files. Of course, the users may only upload what they have paid for. For this to work I would like to create a separate bucket for each customer, each with its own properties. Question 1: is this possible with the API? How? This means that the installed software must have the rights needed to upload to my Amazon S3 account. Question 2: can I create individual authentication IDs for each bucket or customer, so that they can only upload with restrictions I have set? Thanks in advance.

    Hi there, I'm a newbie Linux (Ubuntu) user and I'll like to know if someone can give some advices of where to install stuff, which folders don't touch, which is the meaning of each folder and so on. My first concern is, should everything go into my home folder? I've installed "manually" Komodo Edit (it's an IDE) and it has gone to my home folder, I really don't like the idea of having an application there. (in windows I used to have my workfiles/pictures/downloads... partition and then the OS partition with all the apps). So, is there any place where I could install this software? Any advice for having my home folder ordered? Maybe I should create an apps folder in my home dir? Thanks in advance. :) pd: most of the time I use apt to install stuff, but I don't always found the software I want there...
