  • Java - How can I edit the size and position of a button using Swing?

    - by mino
    I have the following code but I'd like to structure several buttons of certain sizes. I'm just wondering how to do this as I've Googled it and found several different methods but none seem to work. Any advice? import javax.swing.*; public class GUI { public static void main(String[] args) { JFrame window = new JFrame(); window.setSize(500, 500); window.setTitle("My Application"); JButton button = new JButton("click me"); window.add(button); window.setVisible(true); } }

  • netbeans autocompletion when using singleton to retrieve object instead of new operator?

    - by fayer
    when i use the 'new' operator to instantiate a class, netbeans has no problem to autocomplete the members of the object. $instance = new Singleton(); $instance-> // shows test() method but when i use a singleton to retrieve an object it cannot autocomplete the members in the object retrieved. the getInstance code looks like this: public function test() { echo "hello"; } public static function getInstance() { if ( ! is_object(self::$_instance)) { self::$_instance = new self(); self::$_instance->initialize(); } return self::$_instance; } so i use: $instance = Singleton::getInstance(); $instance-> // no autocompletion! does anyone have the same problem? how do i work around it? thanks!

  • Android internet connectivity check problem

    - by Chaoz
    Hello, I'm new to Android development and working on an Android application that requires the phone to be connected to the internet, through either Wifi, EDGE or 3G. This is the code that I'm using: public static boolean isConnected() { ConnectivityManager cm = (ConnectivityManager) getSystemService(Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE); return cm.getActiveNetworkInfo().isConnectedOrConnecting(); } I've also set these permissions in the manifest file: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE" /> This works fine in the emulator running version 1.5 of Android when 3G is enabled, but it crashes when I disable the 3G connection. My application throws a null pointer exception when I call isConnectedOrConnecting(). Hope that anyone knows the solution to this. Thanks in advance!

  • Need help understanding .net ThreadPool

    - by Meredith
    I am trying to understand what ThreadPool does, I have this .NET example: class Program { static void Main() { int c = 2; // Use AutoResetEvent for thread management AutoResetEvent[] arr = new AutoResetEvent[50]; for (int i = 0; i < arr.Length; ++i) { arr[i] = new AutoResetEvent(false); } // Set the number of minimum threads ThreadPool.SetMinThreads(c, 4); // Enqueue 50 work items that run the code in this delegate function for (int i = 0; i < arr.Length; i++) { ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(delegate(object o) { Thread.Sleep(100); arr[(int)o].Set(); // Signals completion }, i); } // Wait for all tasks to complete WaitHandle.WaitAll(arr); } } Does this run 50 "tasks", in groups of 2 (int c) until they all finish? Or I am not understanding what it really does.

  • Adding to arrays and printing arrays in Java

    - by nfoggia
    I need help figuring out how to get the user to input a number of integers no more than 10, and then add them to an array and print them out from the array. The code I have below, when run, asks the user for the integers and then runs forever and doesn't work. What am I doing wrong? public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in); // create a new scanner System.out.print("Enter integers between 1 and 100\n "); int[] nextNumber = new int[10]; int i = 0; int number = input.nextInt(); while (i < nextNumber.length){ i++; nextNumber[i] = number; number = input.nextInt(); } int a = 0; while (a < nextNumber.length){ a++; System.out.println(nextNumber[a]); }

  • Exception is swallowed by finally

    - by fiction
    static int retIntExc() throws Exception{ int result = 1; try { result = 2; throw new IOException("Exception rised."); } catch (ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException e) { System.out.println(e.getMessage()); result = 3; } finally { return result; } } A friend of mine is a .NET developer and currently migrating to Java and he ask me the following question about this source. In theory this must throw IOException("Exception rised.") and the whole method retIntExc() must throws Exception. But nothing happens, the method returns 2. I've not tested his example, but I think that this isn't the expected behavior. EDIT: Thanks for all answers. Some of you have ignored the fact that method is called retIntExc, which means that this is only some test/experimental example, showing problem in throwing/catching mechanics. I didn't need 'fix', I needed explanation why this happens.

  • Adapting methods which return true/false

    - by James P.
    What's the best practise when adapting C-style functions which return a true/false to Java? Here's a simple method to illustrate where the problem lies. public static boolean fileNameEndsWithExtension( String filename, String fileExtension) { return filename.endsWith( fileExtension ); } Note that there's probably a more elegant way of filtering files (feel free to comment on this). Anyway, if filename is a null value, does one: Return a false if filename is null? If so, how does one go about distinguishing between the case where filename is null and the case where the String or file name doesn't end with a given file extension? Change the return type to the wrapper class Boolean which allows a null value. Throw an Exception and force the programmer to make sure that a null value is never passed to the method? Use another solution?

  • XAML resources aren't loaded when calling from different project

    - by svick
    I have a WPF project with some styles in XAML in Application.Resources. This works perfectly fine. But when I open a window from this project from another one (this one is a console application), the resources from XAML aren't loaded. When I first tried it, I got a XamlParseException on StaticResource calls in XAML, so I changed it to DynamicResource and now the style just doesn't get loaded. How do I fix this? The code I use: [STAThread] static void Main() { App app = new App(); MyWindow wnd = new MyWindow (); wnd.Show(); app.Run(); }

  • How do I link a VS2008 C++ project as a DLL instead of a LIB?

    - by Clark Battle
    I have the C++ source code in a Visual Studio project from another developer that compiles into a static lib. I need to change it so that it builds a dll from that code so that I can call it from C#. I went into the project properties in Visual Studio and changed the configuration type to a DLL. However, it now gives lots of linker errors like: error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol __CAP_Enter_Function XXXFilter.obj XXXFramework What else do I need to do in Visual Studio and in the code to produce a dll from the code instead of a lib? The library is huge so writing a wrapper is not an option. I have the code so I should be able to make it build a dll. I am not a very experienced C++ dev but I am in C# and visual studio. Thanks

    - by Ali
    I am calling blackberry map by converting the real coordinates as you can see public static void showMap(String latitude,String longatude){ try{ int specailLatitude=(int)(Double.parseDouble(latitude))*100000; int specailLongatude=(int)(Double.parseDouble(longatude))*100000; MapView mapView=new MapView(); mapView.setLatitude(specailLatitude); mapView.setLongitude(specailLongatude); mapView.setZoom(07); MapsArguments arg=new MapsArguments(mapView); Invoke.invokeApplication(Invoke.APP_TYPE_MAPS, arg); }catch(Exception e){ CustomUtility.showToast("Map is not available "+e.getMessage()); } }// end of the showMap but problem is this its now showing correct location , it always shows same location in UAE , please help that i am converting correctly ?

  • How to make Visual C++ 9 not emit code that is actually never called?

    - by sharptooth
    My native C++ COM component uses ATL. In DllRegisterServer() I call CComModule::RegisterServer(): STDAPI DllRegisterServer() { return _Module.RegisterServer(FALSE); // <<< notice FALSE here } FALSE is passed to indicate to not register the type library. ATL is available as sources, so I in fact compile the implementation of CComModule::RegisterServer(). Somewhere down the call stack there's an if statement: if( doRegisterTypeLibrary ) { //<< FALSE goes here // do some stuff, then call RegisterTypeLib() } The compiler sees all of the above code and so it can see that in fact the if condition is always false, yet when I inspect the linker progress messages I see that the reference to RegisterTypeLib() is still there, so the if statement is not eliminated. Can I make Visual C++ 9 perform better static analysis and actually see that some code is never called and not emit that code?

  • How can I leverage String constants in an XML file?

    - by jayshao
    I'd like to enforce standardized keys by storing them as static final String variables on a Java class, and either referencing or statically importing them, to use them as values in either XML, Strings, Methods, Annotations, etc. Does anyone know a good way to have Maven insert (like filtering) values like StringKeys.SOME_KEY into an XML file? e.g. something like <element value="${StringKeys.SOME_KEY}"/> or similar - the main idea is to enforce commonality and prevent key mis-alignment. Or an alternative solution to accomplish the same - with some semantic that if a non-existant String is referenced, that it fails during build? Bonus points if it works in C# as well.

  • GWT formating flextable & Panel create on the fly

    - by graybow
    I have a project showing comments database I put the comments in FlexTable TabelKomen and I put the text in HTML format like this: private static final int y=1; public void UpdateTabelKomen(JsArray str){ for(int i=0; i str.length(); i++){ UpdateTabelKomen(str.get(i)); } } public void UpdateTabelKomen(ImageDetailData str){ TabelKomen.setWidget(y, 0, new HTML(str.getmember + "'s comment :" + str.getkomen())); TabelKomen.getFlexCellFormatter().setWordWrap(y, 0, true); y++; } The data was shown, but my text comment is not word wraped and make my flex table wider. Of course that will ruin my web appearance. I change new HTML with new ScrolPanel(new HTML) seems not working. so How can I Format my FlexTable? is there any option beside flextable or scrollpanel?

  • PHP REMOTE_ADDR and secure sessions

    - by Christopher McCann
    One of the ways I have used to make securer sessions in the past is to also record the clients IP address and user agent at the handshake. Each time the client moves a page and calls session_start() I also check that the IP address and user agent stored is still the same to prevent hiijacking. But if someone is connecting from say a company network then all the users will probably have the same external static IP address and they could also really easily be using the same user agent. Is there other metrics I can use which are local only to the physical machine? Thanks

    - by Steve
    I am using N-Hibernate and have a class/table called Boxers I also have a prospect table which tells use if the boxer is a prospect. (this table is one column of just the boxersID) So i Want to get all boxers that are prospects (meaning all boxers that have there id in the prospects table) Public static IQueryable<Boxer> IsProspect(this IQueryable<Boxer> query) { return query.Where(x => x.Prospect != null); } this doesnt trim down my list of boxers to the boxers that are prospect... yet if i debug and look at any boxer it will have True or false next to each one correctly... Why isnt the where clause correctly trimming down the list?

  • Shift operator in Java bizarre program output

    - by Umesh Kacha
    I came across the following program and it behaving in unexpected manner. public class ShiftProgram { public static void main(String[] args) { int i = 0; while(-1 << i != 0) i++; System.out.println(i); } } If we think about this program output, when it reaches 32 while loop condition should return false and terminate and it should print 32. If you ran this program, it does not print anything but goes into an infinite loop. Any idea whats going on? Thank you in advance.

  • How few a files does it take to load a program on Linux?

    - by BCS
    The (hypothetical for now) situation is the user of my system is going to be given a chunk of C code and needs my system to compile and run it in a chroot sandbox that is generated on the fly and I want to require the fewest files in the box as possible. I'm only willing to play with compiler and linker settings (e.g. static link everything I can expect to be able to find) and make some moderate restriction on what the code can expect use (e.g. they can't use arbitrary libs). The question is how simple can I get the sandbox. Clearly I need the executable, but what about an ELF loader and a .so for the system calls? Can I dump either of them and is there something else I'll need?

  • SVG Using Adobe in IE doesn't work when loading page, but saving the page and then loading it works.

    - by Nick
    So I'm trying to get a SVG document to load in IE. I can see it fine, but all calls to .getSVGDocument() fail, the svg onload="onload()" function never gets called and the right-click Adobe SVG Viewer context menu doesn't show up when right-clicking on the svg. It seems as though I'm managing to crash the adobe SVG viewer or something before it is able to call the onload function but after it has drawn the SVG document. As a test I saved the html page to my hard drive and loaded it up and walla - it works! Right-click, onload, and .getSVGDocument() all work. Very curious. For some reason getting the page from the server makes the adobe plugin crap out but loading up static HTML is fine. Any thoughts?

  • XSLT 1.0: Sorting by concating portions of date string

    - by dscl
    I'm trying to take XML data and sort elements by their data attribute. Unfortunately the dates come over in mm/dd/yyyy format and are not static lengths. (Jan = 1 instead of 01) So I believe the string will have to be parsed into three components and the month padded. The newly concated value (yyyymmdd) then sorted descending. Problem is I have no idea how to do this. Here is an example of the data <content date="1/13/2011 1:21:00 PM"> <collection vo="promotion"> <data vo="promotion" promotionid="64526" code="101P031" startdate="1/7/2011 12:00:00 AM"/> <data vo="promotion" promotionid="64646" code="101P026" startdate="2/19/2011 12:00:00 AM"/> <data vo="promotion" promotionid="64636" code="101P046" startdate="1/9/2011 12:00:00 AM"/> </collection> </content> Also can anyone please recommend a good book on learning XSLT? Thanks!

  • How do I write in-code comments and documentation in a proper way? Is there any standard for this?

    - by hkBattousai
    I want to add documentation in my code by means of comment lines. Is there any standard format for this? For example, consider the code below: class Arithmetic { // This method adds two numbers, and returns the result. // dbNum1 is the first number to add, and dbNum2 is second. // The returning value is dbNum1+dbNum2. static double AddTwoNumbers(double dbNum1, double dbNum2); } For this example code, is there any better way of writing the comment lines?
