• Vim and clang_complete, how to explicitly compile my code

  I use Vim with clang_complete for omnicompletion. The plugin is automatically triggered when I need completion, e.g., after I type . or -> to access an object members or methods (see attached screenshot). The plugin works really nice, however I would need a way to trigger it manually (i.e. to compile my code for syntax checking). This is useful for two reasons: Static syntax checking Clear previous errors which have been fixed (which otherwise will remain in their buffer).   Does the -jar option of the java command also compile the sources before running the main method? I believe so but i would like to have a better understanding of the internal process, from the man page you can clearly see a small workflow sequence: -jar Execute a program encapsulated in a JAR file. The first argument is the name of a JAR file instead of a startup class name. In order for this option to work, the manifest of the JAR file must contain a line of the form Main-Class: classname. Here, classname identifies the class having the public static void main(String[] args) method that serves as your application's starting point. See the Jar tool reference page and the Jar trail of the Java Tutorial @ But it does not mention that it compiles the sources.

EDIT1: What i'm trying to do is write to kernel using the proc file-system. • Why does Java return a date in GMT-4.5 when choosing Co-ordinated Universal Time time zone in Window

  We have seen a strange issue on some Windows XP machines involving the "Co-ordinated Universal Time" time zone. Not all Windows XP machines seem to have it, but on those that do, the following simple Java program public class TimeTest { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println(java.util.TimeZone.getDefault()); System.out.println(new java.util.Date()); } } on JDK 1.6.0_06 prints: sun.util.calendar.ZoneInfo[id="America/Caracas",offset=-16200000,dstSavings=0,useDaylight=false,transitions=5,lastRule=null] Fri Nov 13 05:34:14 VET 2009 (i.e. 4 and a half hours behind GMT). I should add that I am based in London, and have never been to South America. :-) My questions are: Where does Java get this time zone from? I thought Co-ordinated Universal Time was supposed to be the new name for GMT. Why do some Windows machines have this time zone but not others?

• Exception wrapping and HTML pages

  Hi, We have a sharepoint 2007 project at work. The exception handling policy is to log to the Sharepoint logs. In this case, would the best approach be to call that method and then rethrow the exception higher up? Except if I rethrow it to be caught higher up, there is no other exception handling code so what would happen in this case? Also, if you are going to display a more friendly error to the user (which uses information in the exception object), then this would be a good use of exception wrapping. Would it be a good idea to make a custom aspx page and add these to customerrors, so that on init (not sure of the exact event), I can display exception info in the passed parameter on the page. However, a static html page can't do this so I don't see the point in wrapping exceptions (unless there is a page or alert which uses the exception object). So if a project uses html pages for errors, is there a point in wrapping exceptions? Thanks

  I am looking into using a wiki (prefer mediawiki, but not a req.) as the repository for developer generated documentation (User Guides, Release Notes, Application Notes, Errata, etc.) from a collaborative/easy-to-update point of view a wiki seems like a good match, however since this documentation will ultimately ship to customers we want to be able to export the documents in their final state (e.g. during the release cycle) to static versions that no longer include histories. Ideally the export would leave the document n a form where errors could be easily fixed by a non-programmer It would be good if niceties like section ordering and table of contents were available, or easy to add after the fact. Are any tools with features like these avalible?

• Why isn't the @Deprecated annotation triggering a compiler warning about a method?

  I am trying to use the @Deprecated annotation. The @Deprecated documentation says that: "Compilers warn when a deprecated program element is used or overridden in non-deprecated code". • Allowing AsyncTask to Manipulate Values in Different Activity Classes

  Hi guys, This title may seem strange, so let me try to explain what I'm trying to do. I have several activity classes, each representing a different view in my application. My initial activity class gets loaded when the application launches. The user enters values and eventually a TCP socket is opened, and I then use AsyncTask to listen for and respond to messages from the server. I'd like for this AsyncTask class to essentially listen until the app is closed/error condition reached, and be able to update values in other activity classes after they are started. Does this make sense (it's been a long, frustrating night)? I know that static activity class references are bad practice, and touching the UI thread from other activities is bad as well, but I'm having trouble finding a clean solution to this problem. Maybe using AsyncTask is not the best approach here? Should I be using a service instead or something else entirely? Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I have a C++ code that upon execution: Loads JVM (I have full control on how to load the JVM), and call Java methods (from loaded classes) using C JNI code. The Java code has no Main() and it is actually not a standard Java application. it is mainly a static code that compiled and compacted into Jar file, the code is being called by the C++ module. Is it possible to profile this Java code being executed by YourKit (have license for it)? If so I'll be glad to know how. Thanks, Guy

  I have a project that uses PageMethods to call functions on the server. The server functions (written in C#) return the values as array of strings, without doing any kind of serialization and in the client side (from Js) the accessing of the return values is by using static variable called arguments. I found that sometimes for some users (cases are not repro) sometimes an exception occured "WebServiceFailedException the server method 'Foo' returned invalid data. the 'd' property is missing from JSON." I am not able to delete the cache directory since the file list is always null. Is there any other way to clear the application cache?

  I've been at this one for a bit now. I've got a null pointer exception so im guessing somethings not been initialized. AdminMessages.inbox1.setText(messageRsetArray[0]); thats my code where its targetting. but i cant find what inside it hasnt been initiazed. AdminMessages is a class which contains a JTextField called inbox1, messageRsetArray is an array which has taken variables from an array. also inbox1 is static. i coulndt get the getters and setter to work. i know its bad practice though.
