• Do I need to restart my server after editing fstab and mtab?

  I'm just wondering if I need to restart my server after editing fstab and mtab. I changed something in this file manually due to problem with awstats report. I am using ISPConfig 3 with the help of the tutorial from howtoforge. But due to removing/deleting of some account, the configuration of fstab and mtab messed up. I also ask this question at howtoforge forum but until now no one has answered. If you'd like to read my question please visit it here. I tried very hard to fix the problem w/o luck. Update: Here's what happen to my fstab: Before the value was (I omitted the other): /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/mydomain.com /var/www/clients/client1/web1/log none bind,nobootwait 0 0 /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log none bind,nobootwait 0 0 So I changed it to the correct path: /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/mydomain.com /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log none bind,nobootwait 0 0 /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com /var/www/clients/client1/web3/log none bind,nobootwait 0 0 I also found mtab to have the same value as above that's why I edited it manually. from: /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/mydomain.com /var/www/clients/client1/web1/log none rw,bind 0 0 /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log none rw,bind 0 0 to: /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/mydomain.com /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log none rw,bind 0 0 /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com /var/www/clients/client1/web3/log none rw,bind 0 0 I edited those value because the correct path of mydomain.com and example.com should be under web2 and web3 folder respectively. As of now the log of example.com is pointed to: /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log when it should be: /var/www/clients/client1/web3/log So I am thinking that this is because of fstab and mtab. Please guide me how to point the log correctly to it's default directory. I explain the scenario one by one at this link. to dawud: Based on your example mount -o remount,noexec /var, should I run mount -o remount,noexec /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com?

• set service dependency on internet connection

  Hi, I have created a window service and set some dependencies like on MSMQ, MSSQLSERVER and so. Everything is working nice. but i need to send another dependency for my service. That is on internet connection. My service is responsible for sending emails. As soon my server starts, my service starts too and it finds if there is anything to send, if there is, it starts to send email, if during sending it is not able to connect to the internet it cannot send email. so i guess i should set my service dependency on internet connection too. I already set my window service dependency to MicrosoftSQL Server and Microsoft Message Queuing by editing the registry value. by adding new multi string value named "DependOnService", Type "REG_MULTI_SZ" and space separated names of the services that my service depends upon for the Data. For Microsoft SQL Server i set the value to "MSSQLSERVER" but i don't know the name of the internet service that i need to set dependency upon. how can i do this, any help please Thanks

• How to see the properties of a DOM element as they change in realtime?

  JavaScript code can update the properties/attributes of DOM elements in real time by responding to events and so on. Here is an example. In the table on that page, move your mouse over the cells. Notice how they change color when the mouse is on them, and the color goes away when you move the mouse to another cell. Now, using Firefox or Chrome (but not IE, Opera, etc.), I want to examine the background color, expressed in RGB or hex or whatever, of the cells updated in real time, as the mouse cursor enters and leaves the region and causes the JS to do its thing. The behavior that I observe, currently, is that the Inspect Element functionality of both Firefox and Chrome does not update the value of the properties as they are updated by JavaScript. So, in order to view the latest value of the property, I have to inspect the element again, and it takes a momentary "snapshot" of the values. But since the values only change while I have the mouse on them, I can't take a snapshot of the value I want while my mouse cursor is over the cell, because I have to remove my mouse from the cell to select the "Inspect Element" item in the right-click list! If it is possible to have the values updated in real time using either Firefox or Chrome, or an extension, on any recent version of the software (up to the latest stable), please provide instructions for doing so.

• Running .NET code in XML file [closed]

  We have 2 servers, 1 already configured with .net which works fine and a new one which appears to be configured the same but when I open an xml page in Internet Explorer it complains about the <% tag. We have IIS on win srvr 2003 SP2. The website is configured with .NET 1.1.4322. In ISAPI extensions have set the .XML extension to use c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_isapi.dll But the page: <property name="documentmaxage" value="0"/> <property name="documentmaxstale" value="0"/> <var name="m_Prompt_Path" /> <form id="InitVoiceXmlDoc"> <block> <assign name="m_Prompt_Path" expr="&quot;<% Response.Write(Request.QueryString["m_Prompt_Path"]); %>&quot;"/> </block> </form> gives the error: The XML page cannot be displayed Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. • How can I have Vhosts with Lighttpd on Windows and keeping PHP through mod_cgi ?

  Hello, I installed Lighty on Windows 7 and managed to get it correctly serve both static and PHP files (through mod_cgi). At first I got the "No input file selected" message displayed when requesting a .php file. So, I updated the doc_root value in my php.ini to match the server.document-root defined in my Lighty config, and PHP stops complaining. Then I defined a VHost to point all foo.com requests to a specific dir. It worked well for all static files but when requesting a .php file, the mod_cgi was still picking files from the doc_root defined in php.ini, not in the directory I defined for server.document-root in my Vhost. I know its what's supposed to happen, PHP follows the config defined in php.ini. And I have to set this value in my php.ini otherwise no php is processed at all. What I don't understand is how I'm supposed to have virtual hosts with mod_cgi enabled here ? I tried adding [HOST=foo.com] section in the php.ini without any luck. I tried mod_fastcgi but could'n get it to work at all, I also tried mod_simple_host but could get it handle php. I managed to get it working by copying my PHP install to another dir (and changing the doc_root value) and adding a cgi.assign pointing to that install in my vhost. But this is a really hackish way, it means having one PHP install for each virtualhost. Note that I'm working on a development machine running Windows, this is not a production server, I just wanted to emulate the final Server config locally to test some changes. I googled a lot this problem but all I can find are people installing Lighty on windows with mod_cgi, or installing Lighty on Windows with virtual hosts, but I never found anyone who managed to get both.

• In which order does Excel process its formulae?

  I've got a fairly large spreadsheet with major calculations going on, and it's starting to slow down every time a value that's part of a calculated field is modified. I'm in the process of optimizing the file, adding arrays where I can, and seeing where I can shave off a few milliseconds here and there. Let's say there's data in Columns A-H. Column H is set based on relationships between values in Columns A, B and C, which change dynamically from an outside program. Users enter the data in Column F. Formulas in D & E calculate relationships between F & H and H & D, respectively. How does Excel manage formulae in the case, for instance, where they're dependent on data further into the sheet? Will my value in H be available the first time that the formulae in D & E calculate? or, will D & E calculate based on an old value for H, because H's update hasn't happened yet? Are there any efficiencies to be gained by positioning dependencies in particular rows or columns in the speadsheet? Do positions above and left the current position get processed sooner than things below and to the right?

• IBM WebSphere Host On-Demand (HoD): Cannot run program with "runprogram" command. What can I do?

  I access a system that uses an IBM Host on Demand client. I am tryig to create a macro to do a hard task (more than 90,000 keys must be pressed to complete it), but to do it easier I need to call some "external" aplications using "runprogram" tag. But I don't know why it does not function (following IBM help - http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/hodhelp/v11r0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.hod.doc/doc/macro/macro.html - did not help...). I am running in Firefox 3.6 and my Java version is jdk1.6.0_20.   I keep getting this error whenever I run a macro in my excel file. Is there any way I can prevent this? My code is below. • Apache form authentication issues

  I am trying to authenticate users through Apache using the form authentication method to restrict https requests to a certain folder. Although, regardless of whether the correct login details are provided it keeps reloading the same page except the url has the form values embedded in it instead of redirecting to the appropriate page. I need to use the form authentication type instead of basic so I can write my own html for the user to login. I am using Apache 2.4.9 and this is our current configuration. • Command prompt cannot find PATH variable

  Sometimes, my command prompt cannot find the PATH variable. I have this occasional problem at work where when I open command-prompt and run commands like ipconfig or subst, I get an error saying something like 'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command. When I try this echo %path%, it prints out %path% instead of the PATH value. If I look at my Environment Variables window, the PATH is defined right there but I don't know why CMD can't find it. At this point, I understand why the other commands were not being recognized since their paths are in PATH variable. However, I cannot understand why the PATH variable is not being found. If I restart the computer, everything is back to normal. In a few days, I might have the same experience again. I tried using this answer. It suggested changing a registry value but mine already had the value that was suggested yet it wasn't working. (The restart step at the end would have solved it as usual but that's not the point.) Any suggestions regarding why the PATH variable may become invisible every now and then and how I can prevent it from happening again?

  I have problem I'm hoping someone could help me with. I have five different text values in 5 cells. I am trying to combine these values into one cell with a comma in between each. However the trick is that if there is no value in (H6) then it must place the word "and" between the cell (F6) and (G6). If there is a value in (H6) then place the word "and" between (G6) and (H6). In the same statement I must also include If there is not value in (G6) then it must place the word "and" between the cell E6 and F6. Please see image attached. I am trying to get the highlighted statements into one cell. So multiple IF statements into one cell.   Hi all, I couldn't find a duplicate question, but I was wondering what the differences are between different read/write speeds for Bluray drive. I'm planning on buying one for a build but don't know if I can cheap out on getting a Bluray 2x drive or spend more money for a quality Bluray 8x drive. Will I just experience more lag/buffering times for Bluray discs on a 2x and none for a 6x or 8x? Thanks in advance.

• Any reason not to disable Windows kernel paging?

  So I'm planning on eventually going to 2 GB (mobo max) RAM from 1 GB, and I want to disable kernel paging once I do, because I've heard it can give a performance boost (and that I believe). Any reason not to do it or any general thoughts about it? Edit: for clarification, this is not disabling general RAM paging. This is disabling having kernel memory paged (or at least parts of it, as Charlls noted).

• How much time do I have to remove a domain controller that was lost using metadata cleanup?

  I am wondering how long after a Domain Controller has been permanently lost, from the domain due to it dying from hardware perspective, do I have before I have to clean up references of it using meta data cleanup? Planning on doing it soon but not sure if there is anything I should be concerned about. This dead or lost domain controller had no roles other than being a Domain Controller and having integrated Active Directory DNS. As well it held NO FSMO roles, it was just an older replication Domain Controller.

Are there any "gotchya's" involved in doing this, or do I just run ad and forest prep, promote the 2008 R2 box? How would CALs work with this setup?
