Is there a possibility to build a common abstract (MustInherit) class Segment, having a Distance as (abstract +? ReadOnly) member? Question for VB.NET, but C# answers welcomed too. Business Background Imagine a Bus. It has a lot of Stations, MainStations, and 2 TerminalStations. So Line is between 2 Stations, PoliLine is between 2 MainStations, and SuperPoliLine is between 2 TerminalStations. All "lines" are "Segments", but only the distance A-B between 2 stations - Line can be defined.

  This issue or similar issues have been discussed here before, but I didn't find any working solution for me. I am using the following code to display a UIDocumentInteractionController on an ARC-enabled iOS 7 project: - (void) exportDoc{ // [...] docController = [UIDocumentInteractionController interactionControllerWithURL:[NSURL fileURLWithPath:path]]; docController.delegate = self; [docController presentOpenInMenuFromBarButtonItem:mainMenuButton animated:YES]; } First I didn't want to create a property that holds the controller reference, but as many people said that there are not alternatives to it. It is defined as @property (strong) UIDocumentInteractionController* docController; exportDoc is run in the main thread using NSOperationQueue. My UserControl consists of StackPanel StackPanel contains a Label and TextBox I am trying to create two Dependency Properties Text for the Label Orientation for the StackPanel - The orientation will affect the position of the Label and TextBox effectively I have successfully created a Text dependency property and bind it to my UserControls . • How do I map repeating columns in NHibernate without creating duplicate properties

  Given a database that has numerous repeating columns used for auditing and versioning, what is the best way to model it using NHibernate, without having to repeat each of the columns in each of the classes in the domain model? Every table in the database repeats these same nine columns, the names and types are identical and I don't want to replicate it in the domain model. I have read the docs and I saw the section on inheritance mapping but I couldn't see how to make it work in this scenario. This seems like a common scenario because nearly every database I've work on has had the four common audit columns (CreatedBy, CreateDate, UpdatedBy, UpdateDate) in nearly every table. This database is no different except that it introduces another five columns which are common to every table.

  Here's a homework problem: Is L_4 Regular? Let L_4 = L*, where L={0^i1^i | i>=1}. I know L is non-regular and I know that Kleene Star is a closed operation, so my assumption is that L_4 is non-regular. However my professor provided an example of the above in which L = {0^p | p is prime}, which he said was regular by proving that L* was equal to L(000* + e) by saying each was a subset of one another (e in this case means the empty word). So his method involved forming a regex of 0^p, but how I can do that when I essentially have one already?

• How to validate properties across Models without repeating the validation logic

  Hello All, I am building a ASP.NET Mvc app. I have a Data model say User public class user { public int userId {get; private set}; public string FirstName {get; set;} } The validation to be done is that the firstname cannot exceed 50 characters. I have another presentation model in which i have the property FirstName too. I do not want to repeat the validation logic in both the models. I want to have it in one place and that should be it. I can do it in a simpler way by adding a function which can be called while setting the property like private string firstName; public string FirstName { get { return firstName; } set { if (PropertyValidator.ValidName(value)) // assuming ValidName exists and it will throw an exception if the value is not valid { firstName = value; } } } But I am looking for something much simpler so that I do not need to add this for every property I need to have it validated. I looked at ValidationAttribute but then again I can validate this only from a controller (ModelState.IsValid). Since this model could be used by some other type of apps like console app, I could not choose that. But if there is a way to use the Mvc's ModelState.IsValid from outside of a controller, that would be awesome. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

• How can I get Text property to initialize to the objects name at design time?

  When you add a label to the form from the toolbox, its text defaults to the item's name (label1, label2, etc). How can I make this happen with a custom control? So far, I have the following, which allows me to change the text through the property window: private string _text; [BrowsableAttribute(true)] public override string Text { get { return _text; } set { _text = value; lblID.Text = _text; } } Apparently the above code works as is, but I'm not sure why. Does Text default to the object's name automatically? The question still stands for other properties which don't override Text.

The one thing that scares me is seeing some ** hard-coded literals** all over my code. Instead i would like to write something like ProcessObjectB(Common.GetMappedvalue(MyXmlElemtObj.input.variable)); Is there a way to isolate this mapping thing to common class, where i will predefine which literal is mapped to which values. The problem is the values are of objects created at the run time. If my question is making sense then So how do i achieve this? • Flex Tree Properties, Null Reference?

  I am pulling down a large XML file and I have no control over it's structure. I used a custom function to use the tag name to view the tree structure as a flex tree, but then it breaks. I am guessing it has something to do with my other function, one that calls attribute values from the selected node. • Using java to create a logistic model - arrays and properties

  I'm currently trying to create a java model that will solve a problem we have. On a voluntary expedition each week we have some people leaving and some new people arriving. Accommodation is in tents. The tents sleep different numbers of people and certain rules apply. Males and females cannot be mixed and volunteers can be one of four types - school children/ research assistants/ scientific staff/ school teachers So types of volunteer and sexes cannot be mixed. Each week the manager spends hours trying to work this out so I've offered to make this model to keep my coding skills up. At present I'm working with arrays. Each tent is a 2D array [4][x] where x is the number of people it sleeps (each person sleeping there has 4 attributes). Each person is a 1D array with 4 attributes [4]. The idea is to check where people can go, cause the minimum movement for people staying on and solve this logistic problem. Does anyone have any better suggestions as to how to solve this? At present I'm finding it necessary to write a lot of code setting up and querying arrays. Any help is appreciated.

  This must be a FAQ, but I can’t find a duplicate question! There are lot of different attributes that control what the WinForm Designer does with properties on a custom control, I am never clear on the one I should use in this case. I am looking for: Designer does not show property in grid Designer does not read value of property Designer does not set property to default value E.g. Designer behaves as if the property was not there. Designer does not complain if it has already done one of the above before the attributes were added (hard!) Background. The code that is giving me the problem is: this.eventListControl.FilterSets = ((SystList<FilterSet>)(resources.GetObject("eventListControl.FilterSets"))); The FilterSets property should never have been touched by the winforms designer; it is now not Serializable and MsDev falls over every time a form that used the eventListControl is changed!

• EntityFramework how to Override properties

  I've just started using EF in VS2010. That thing is just amazin'. I frankly can't understand something. For example I have EntityType with property, they generated from database structure. Now, I have to simply override that property in my code. I don't need to save value of the property back into DB, but everytime when it gets read from DB it should be substituted with run-time calculated value. Of course I can create derived class based on my EntityType but I've tried and found kinda difficulties, I'm not sure this is kinda right way to do. Anyway even when I try to change the whole EntityType to Abstract, damn Visual Studio doesn't want to validate that and says something like: "Error 2078: The EntityType 'AssetsModel.Asset' is Abstract and can be mapped only using IsTypeOf." "Error 2063: At least one property must be mapped in the set mapping for 'Assets'" What the hell is this suppose to mean I dunno.. Any ideas gentlemen?

I'm getting the error "Local sequence cannot be used in LINQ to SQL implementation of query operators except the Contains() operator."
