  • Command+Tab not working on MacOSX Client with Synergy

    I have an Ubuntu 11.10 laptop paired with an Apple Wireless Keyboard. I'm using the answer on this question to swap the Command and Option keys so that they are mapped like a regular keyboard. This works fine in Ubuntu. Now I have a Macbook Pro running as a Synergy Client. This mapping kind of works on the Macbook, but it only allows me to Command+Tab between two programs, not all of them. Copy, Paste, and other Command keys seem to work fine, but not Command+Tab. It's annoying just because I use the keyboard a lot. And yes, I could switch to syncing the keyboard and the Macbook, but I use the Ubuntu laptop more.

  • Install Windows 8 Apps to custom directory

    I'm running Windows 8 Pro on a laptop. I initially installed the OS just to fiddle round with it and get to know something I'd inevitably end up having to fix for someone. The problem being I only gave the partition about 32gb and that ran out pretty quick. I'd like to install office and get used to that as well but unfortunately I'm a few gigabytes short. I'd like to know if I can change the install location of office 2013 and other apps so that I can run them from another partition because there is no space left to the right of this partition I can't extend it.

  • Very slow accessing printer shared from Windows Machine

    How do I go about debugging a networking problem where the office printer is shared off a Windows XP PC and is very slow from me to access? Print/changing any settings can take several minutes and applications often display "Not Responding" in this time. My machine is a Windows Vista PC. The other PCs in the office are either Vista or XP and do not suffer from any printing problems. I am not experiencing any other network related problems, I can access the web and e-mail fine. The printer is a HP officejet Pro 8000

  • Installer hangs on "waiting for other installations to finish" despite no other installations in progress

    I started an installation of the Xcode 4 developer's preview last night before going to bed. When I woke up, the installation had popped up a message saying to close Xcode first (doh!). I did so, but whatever script had displayed the message seemed to have hung because the (uncancellable) message wouldn't disappear, and the installer wouldn't progress. After force quitting the Installer app, the message above was still showing, so I restarted my MacBook Pro and then tried the installation again. This time it wouldn't even start, instead showing one of those candy-stripe activity bars and the message: Waiting for other installations to finish At this point, I'm stumped. There are no other installations in progress, so there must be some artifact left over from the interrupted install that's gumming up the works. But what?

  • Windows 7 Won't find Lexmark X4550

    I just got Lexmark X4550 wireless printer and want to have it installed on my laptop Windows 7 Beta. I have installed using Lexmark drivers and doing a "add a printer" device search. But when I tried to print a document i got an error message: "Communication not available. The printer cannot communicate with the computer...". This pinter used to work perfectly on my Windows XP Pro SP3. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I recently came upon a Microsoft article that touted new "defensive enhancements" of Windows 7. Specifically: Address space layout randomization (ASLR) Heap randomization Stack randomization The article went on to say that "...some of these defenses are in the core operating system, and the Microsoft Visual C++ compiler offers others" but didn't explain how these strategies would actually increase security. Anyone know why memory randomization increases security, if at all? Do other platforms and compilers employ similar strategies?

  • Find out why Xcode has decided to link to a particular library

    I'm using the Unity 3D engine to build an iPhone app, and when I go to generate my Xcode project for compilation, it includes a few fairly large libraries: Mono.Security.dll.s, System.dll.s, System.Core.dll.s, etc. I don't know if this question is really an Xcode question or a Unity question, but I'm trying to figure out why each of those libraries is being linked - which functions / classes are being referenced - ideally so that I can rewrite my code to remove as many of the dependencies as possible. Does anybody know a way to find this information out?

  • Getting BootMgr not found errors repeatedly on Win7 x64

    So here is the basic configuration of the box: Primary RAID 1 (Mirror, Bootable): 2x 300GB WD SATA drives AMD Phenom Quad Core x64 @2.2 ASUS M3N78 Pro Board 4GB RAM Win 7 Ultimate Additionally, this box is a Host OS for several CentOS Boxes via VirtualBox. The box runs like a champ but, for whatever reason, everytime I restart the machine I get a BootMgr not found error when the box tries to boot. I pop in my Win DVD, select 'Repair Windows' then 'Fix Start Up Problems' and everything works fine...once. When I restart the box again I have to go back through this process. Any ideas on what is going on?

    Since I moved my computer there's no display when I plug my screen in the video card but works fine in the mother board. I tried reseting the cmos, but I still have the same problem. The fans are spining and there's a light from the card. I tried the DVI ports and the HDMI Here's my build. I have it for 2 months and everything was working fine. Do you think it's the video card?     On any non-trivial hg installation, the hgrc's tend to contain significant stuff. Is there a way to completely ignore/bypass ALL configurations, from system, user, to repo-level? The use case is to use some hg core functionalities in some automation scripts. Currently, if anything is misconfigured (and I mess with my ~/.hgrc a lot), the scripts will abort for something it doesn't use at all. It'd be perfect is I can just hg <whatever> --config:none.

  • Mac OS X Time Machine Restore - Failure?

    I've got an late 2009 macbook pro 13' and yesterday I replaced the native hd (new hd: Hitachi; same form factor). I choosed "Restore from Time Machine" in the options menu on the snow leopard install discs and waited several hours to complete. After an reboot the mac shows up a white screen with apple logo and tiny loading animation. Nothing happens. After another restart; the same. Now I cant boot from CD using the C-Key and I have no idea how to fix that problem.

    Hi experts, Assuming you've already had a chance to look through the lambda syntax proposed for Java7 (and the other things that have happened with Java, after Oracle has bought Sun + obvious problems in Java Community Process), what do you think is the future of Java language? Should I, as a Java greenhorn, invest time in learning Java language (not talking about the core JVM, which definitely will survive anything, and worth investments), or concentrate on Scala, Groovy, or other hybrid languages on the JVM platform (I've came into Java world from PHP/Ruby).     On a friends laptop following some viruses infestations there is a problem in starting the Windows firewall. The error is: Could not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing(ICS) service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified When attempting to turn on automatic updates in the security centre, the message is: We're sorry. The Security Center could not change your Automatic Updates settings. To try changing these settings yourself, go to System in Control Panel. On the Automtic Updates tab, select Automatic (recommended), and then click OK. All the options under "Automatic Updates" are greyed out. I've tried the suggestions below and many others: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/sharedaccess.htm http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/892199 http://windowsxp.mvps.org/repairwmi.htm I can't do a repair install because the installer doesn't detect existing versions. It's XP pro service pack 3.

  • How did Google get on my Mac?

    Am running a MacBook Pro, and have never installed Chrome, Google Earth, or anything blatantly Google. Just installed Little Snitch (are there no good free firewalls for Mac?) and see that CURL is sending to Google every few minutes, as is a request to Google update and more. Little Snitch doesn't say what program setup these requests. So, how do I find out how G got on my machine, why is it sending so many requests (every minute or so) and how do I remove it (and is it there for reasons other than to help G spy on me)?

  • Will USMT 4.0 in MDT 2010 Move/Migrate the .NK2 File for Outlook?

    We're about to begin a refresh project for about 100 XP Pro laptops and have a concern with regards to the .NK2 file which holds cached email addresses(?). If possible we'd like to have USMT move/migrate this but I can't find anything that confirms that this happens automatically or has been done before. I see lots of manual processes but at this point I'm not sure that we can use that. Has anyone done this or seen this done? Perhaps you can point me to a resource that can give me an idea how its done? Any information would be appreciated. USMT seems to get a lot of the details but missing this part seems odd.   • What is the pixel clock setting on my monitor actually doing?

    I am experiencing display interference on a dell 24" flat panel monitor.I find that if I adjust the pixel clock settings up or down in the monitor's on-screen menus, the interference goes away for a while. The monitor is attached to a Macbook Pro using a mini display to VGA adapter. I have found that in a different house, I get the interference problem less so it might be related to electricity supply or possibly even ethernet powerline (total guess). What does the pixel clock setting actually do and does this behaviour point to a likely cause of the interference?

    I hope you can help me... I just installed a SSD (Samsung EVO 840) and windows 8.1 pro in my pc with M5A99X EVO ( chipset AMD 990X/SB950 ) motherboard. The SSD is installed in sata3 socket using a sata3 wire. The AHCI mode is ON in the bios. I configured the ahci controller and now device administrator looks like this: All works, but the speed of the SDD is very slow (like a HDD). Samsung magician doesn't recognize the sata mode neither the ahci. I tried to install more drivers but the system broke and I need to reinstall windows :( I tried many things from the web, but any works: Modify windows registy Use compatibility mode Modify the amd drivers and install it unsigned Thank you for your time!!   • How to stop domain users from installing any software?

    Hi everyone, I was wondering which policies, etc I could setup to stop any installations from occurring in a server 2003 domain environment? I have 2003 RC2 and XP Pro clients. I guess the quick easy way is to make everyone guests, but this also blocks them from other things that they might need to do/access. I've seen a lot of ideas but they do not fully block everything.   • Cannot add Windows 7 client to SBS 2008

    I have just installed SBS 2008 R2 Standard on VMware Workstation 9 along with Windows 7 Pro N. Both are activated and running fine. I have followed the steps to configure SBS 2008 and am now at the point where I'm to add a computer to the domain. Here is where the problem begins. I have gone through the steps of using the webinterface. On the client I downloaded Launcher.exe. I then run it and get the error "Check computer requirements - Failed" (translated from swedish): "This computer doesn't reach the requirements for connecting to the network." "The computer doesn't reach the maximum requirements for the operating system with regards to connect to the network" The provided link for More information only leads to a general supportpage and doesn't handle this specific error. I have also checked the time settings and they are correct. Any clue as to what this problem could be?

  • Job queueing in Toast Titanium 10?

    I have a bunch of .MP4 video files I'm burning to DVD-Video using Toast Titanium 10 on my MacBook Pro. Right now, I'm doing them one at a time. Because my computer is several years old, encoding video for a single DVD takes approximately six hours. I've discovered that it appears I can encode the video directly to a .toast format — however, I have yet to figure out if I can burn these directly to DVD. Also, I have quite a bit of video left to burn, and even that method would require me intervening manually to start a new encoding or burn job every six hours. Would it be possible to somehow queue up multiple DVD-Video encoding jobs at once, and have the computer work through them automatically? The actual writing to DVD disc doesn't take nearly as long, and if I had all my video encoded for me to begin with my job would be a lot quicker. Maybe this can be accomplished with a different piece of software?
