• Reading membership section from web.config in C#

  Hi there, I have created a custom MembershipProvider class, so far so good, however, I am not sure how to read the configuration settings from the web.config file. I tried to search from Google and Stackoverflow, seems like someone also experiencing my problem and asked, but no answer has been given. It should be a simple thing, but I am very new in web development, so reading settings from web.config seems away too technical to me. • What are the advantages / disadvantages of a Cloud-based / Web-based IDE?

  I'm writing this as DevConnections in Las Vegas is happening. Visual Studio 2010 has been released and I now have this 3GB beast installed to my machine. (I'll admit, it has some nice features.) However, while the install was monopolizing my computer's resources I began to wish that my IDE worked more like Google Documents (instantly available, available anywhere, easy to share, easy to collaborate, naturally versioned). A few Google (and StackOverflow) searches led me to : Coderun Bespin I'm well aware that these IDE's are missing a lot of what exists in VS 2010. However, that isn't my question. Instead, I'm wondering what benefits a web-based IDE might have? Assuming a company invests the time to create the missing features, what is the downside?

  Hello, I ran a search for assembly language resources on stackoverflow.com and found some interesting results, but they seemed to boil down to two groups: 1) Assembly references to old ia32 architecture, such as the 80386 to Pentium 2) Windows agnostic books. Most of the commenters make the point that assembler is CPU dependent and that the OS is irrelevant, but it seems pointless to me to pick a book that has assembly examples that refer to MS-DOS interrupts and memory layouts. Likewise, learning assembler on Linux would seem to produce Linux executables Are there any: 1) Modern 2) x86/x64 3) on Windows platform - book resources available ? The reason I am targeting the Win platform is I would like to do low-level, OS internals programming, to supplement my Win C/C++ work. Thanks

• Jquery - How to make $.post() use contentType=application/json?

  I've noticed that when using $.post() in jquery that the default contentType is application/x-www-form-urlencoded - when my asp.net mvc code needs to have contentType=application/json (See this question for why I must use application/json: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2792603/aspnet-mvc-why-is-modelstate-isvalid-false-the-x-field-is-required-when-that) How can I make $.post() send contentType=application/json? I already have a large number of $.post() functions, so I don't want to change to $.ajax() because it would take too much time If I try $.post(url, data, function(), "json") It still has contentType=application/x-www-form-urlencoded. So what exactly does the "json" param do if it does not change the contenttype to json? If I try $.ajaxSetup({ contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8" }); That works but affects every single $.get and $.post that I have and causes some to break. So is there some way that I can change the behavior of $.post() to send contentType=application/json?

I'm creating a MessageBanner window that works similar to the message banner we see in several sites nowadays (including SO) I want client code to call my message banner using four different modes: MessageBanner.Show(content); MessageBanner.Show(content, ownerWindow); MessageBanner.ShowModal(content); MessageBanner.ShowModal(content, ownerWindow); I believe you got the application. The thing is that when ownerWindow is displayed, I want to display my MessageBanner window inside the ownerWindow. Any ideas on how to do it?

• Ordered List (ol) showing up un-numbered?

  Hello all, I have an ordered list (ol) on my page but the numbering is not showing up at all! I have done this: <ol> <li>my text</li> <li>my text</li> <li>my text</li> </ol> As I have typed the above, stackoverflow was able to render it correctly the way I wanted it to, like so: my text my text my text However, this is not happening on my webpage. I am viewing this in Firefox on my localhost. If any knows why my ol's look like ul's (i.e. no numbering) I would be grateful for help. • Validating an Autocomplete field in Django

  I have models similar to the following: class Band(models.Model): name = models.CharField(unique=True) class Event(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=50, unique=True) bands = models.ManyToManyField(Band) and essentially I want to use the validation capability offered by a ModelForm that already exists for Event, but I do not want to show the default Multi-Select list (for 'bands') on the page, because the potential length of the related models is extremely long. I have the following form defined: class AddEventForm(ModelForm): class Meta: model = Event fields = ('name', ) Which does what is expected for the Model, but of course, validation could care less about the 'bands' field. I've got it working enough to add bands correctly, but there's no correct validation, and it will simply drop bad band IDs. What should I do so that I can ensure that at least one (correct) band ID has been sent along with my form? • Callback for When jqGrid Finishes Reloading?

  Hi, I am using the jqGrid plug-in and at one point I need to refresh the grid and set the selected row to match the record that I am showing in detail on another section of the page. I have the following code but it does not work: $("#AllActions").trigger("reloadGrid").setSelection(selectedRow); The selectedRow parameter comes from an event handler that gets called when the data is changed and the grid needs to be updated. I'm pretty sure that the problem is that the grid is not loaded when the selection is being set, because if I put a call to alert() between the calls to trigger() and setSelection(), it works. I have set the profiling on and rebuilt, but I can't find the 'Data and Diagnostics' page, or see anything which resembles a coverage data file in the project folder. What I am trying to do get an equivalent to 'gcov' on a Linux platform, get a chart of how much code is being missed by the test suite. I'm using Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition and UnitTest++ as the test framework. Any help would be most welcome.

• How to program three editions Light, Pro, Ultimate in one solution

  I'd like to know how best to program three different editions of my C# ASP.NET 3.5 application in VS2008 Professional (which includes a web deployment project). I have a Light, Pro and Ultimate edition (or version) of my application. At the moment I've put all in one solution with three build versions in configuration manager and I use preprocessor directives all over the code (there are around 20 such constructs in some ten thousand lines of code, so it's overseeable): #if light //light code #endif #if pro //pro code #endif //etc... I've read in stackoverflow for hours and thought to encounter how e.g. Microsoft does this with its different Windows editions, but did not find what I expected. Somewhere there is a heavy discussion about if preprocessor directives are evil. What I like with those #if-directives is: the side-by-side code of differences, so I will understand the code for the different editions after six months and the special benefit to NOT give out compiled code of other versions to the customer. OK, long explication, repeated question: What's the best way to go?

• Is there a Javascript library for editing PDFs?

  Based on my Google and stackoverflow search I'm guessing no, but it can't hurt to ask. The goal is: store some blank forms on my server. Then present these to the user, who edits the form in the browser with Javascript and submits the form back to the server. The client wants to reuse parts of an old system (the forms) in which users would download an editable PDF, edit it, and email it back to a secretary. Our users aren't very computer savvy and many don't realize they need to email the forms back, assuming instead the forms somehow get submitted when they save their local changes (or something). I haven't seen the forms yet, so I cannot assess the viability of an alternative.

  I am currently rethinking the object dispose handling of the qooxdoo JavaScript framework. Have a look at the following diagram (A is currently in scope): Let's say we want to delete B. Generally, we cut all reference between all objects. This means we cut connection 1 to 5 in the example. Is this really necessary? As far as I have read hear 1, browsers use the mark-and-sweep algorithm. In that case, we just need to cut reference 1 (connection to the scope) and 5 (connection to the DOM) which could be much faster.   Hey Guys, i have a big Problem with jQuery UI Datepicker. I have two Input Fields "From Date" and "To Date". When i choose a From Date - a Daterange of only 5 Days should appear on the "To Date" Picker. I used the Code from "Russ Cam" http://stackoverflow.com/questions/330737/jquery-datepicker-2-inputs-textboxes-and-restricting-range It worked perfect. Now my Problem: I have a second Calendar which is INLINE, means no Input Fields - it's shown directly on the Page - with "From Date" and "To Date". In this Calendar the Script does not work! All Fields in "From Date" and in the "To Date" are available - no Date Range Restrictions or something else. What's wrong here? Can someone give me a hint?

  I have a .NET windows form page and a WebBrowser component inside. I load a page inside the web browser using the Navigate method as in: webBrowser1.Navigate("http://www.stackoverflow.com"); The pages length is longer than the browsers height, so the vertical scroll bar appears. Now I want to move the scrollbar down to a specific position. More specifically I want to search for a specific peace of text inside the page, and scroll to that position. This behavior is implemented in the built-in "Find" function of the browser, but I can't figure out how to call the Find function from within my code, without the Find window appearing. Although I don't want the Find window to appear, if the text matches are highlighted it is welcome.

I given up on this plugin as no one can seem to come up with a solution how to make it work and I kinda need to get this place soon. So now I am looking for a new one but it must have the following features. Work on tables Work on tables that have the tablesorter 2.0 plugin on it( so I don't want a pager plugin that comes with its own table sorter since I don't want to change that. It should be a standalone pager plugin). Be able to add rows dynamically to the table and some how update the pager so this row now becomes part of the pager. Thanks

I'm thinking of this pseudocode: mov eax, [number] while(eax != 0) { div eax, 2 if(edx == 1) { ecx++; } shr eax, 1 } Is there a more efficient way? I'm using NASM on a x86 processor. • Google App Engine - About how much quota does a single datastore put use?

  The latency for a datastore put is about 150ms (http://code.google.com/status/appengine/detail/datastore/2010/03/11#ae-trust-detail-datastore-put-latency). About how much CPUTime is used by a single datastore put with data size of 100 bytes, into an entity that has only 2 columns, and no indexes? I plan to do some testing with this later today to figure it out, but if anyone already knows that would help me out :). Also, does anyone know about how much extra overhead in CPUTime doing this datastore put through the task queue would be? • ScrollViewr around expanders not scrolling automatically when expander is expanded - silverlight 3

  I have several expanders inside a ScrollViewer in a fixed sized ChildWindow. The problem is when each expander expanded,the scroll will not scrolling down automatically and as a result,some of the items in the bottom will get hidden and we have to manually scroll down to see them. • A general question about compilation and interpretation.

  Hi stackoverflow, I apologize in advance for the possible stupidity of this question. However, the following has been the source of some confusion for me and I know the people here will be able to handily clear up the confusion for me. Basically, I would like to finally understand the relationship between any and all of the following terms. Some of the terms I do actually understand pretty well, but some of them are similar in my mind and I would like to once and for all to see their relationships/distinctions laid out all at once. They are: compiler interpreter bytecode machine code assembler assembly language binary object code executable Ideally, an answer would use examples from Java and C++ and other well-known programming languages that a young-ish student like me would be familiar with. Also, if you want to throw in any other useful terms that would be fine too :)
