• How to fix slow wireless with Intel 4965 AGN? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Slow wireless with an Intel 4965 We run Ubuntu 12.04, 32bit, with the current kernel 3.2.27-generic on an MSI EX700. I've already added the 11n_disable=1 tweek, without whcih, wireless has been unusable. Now, it works OK, but speedtest shows: Windows XP - down 11.68mbps, up 2.07mbps Ubuntu 12.04 - down 2.06mbps up 2.0mbps We've disabled ipv6, tried static and dinamic IPs, tried both swcrypto=0 and swcrypto=1 options, none of whcih made any difference. The problem may be the symptom of high packet loss. For example, here's the output of iwconfig after booting and testing the speeds: wlan0 IEEE 802.11abg ESSID:"amu" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462 GHz Access Point: 00:78:9E:FA:32:C8 Bit Rate=54 Mb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Encryption key:off Power Management:off Link Quality=58/70 Signal level=-52 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:11 Invalid misc:3627 Missed beacon:0 I've posted a help request before with lots of technical info and outputs.

She really wanted to make a very low profile exit, but the news leaked and there really was too much noise -- some bad, some downright embarrassing not to mention management foul mouthing her. All of this, despite her contribution to the team being very substantial. So here's my question: How do you make a real low profile exit from a company? Is something like that even a reality given that a fair number of people will know you in office, not to mention your linkedin and facebook.

• Cannot upgrade from Maverick

  When I attempt to upgrade the Update manager shows a warning message stating "Your ubuntu release is no longer supported." Okay... Click "close" it never goes away. Locks-up the update manager and game over. Next, try to update the software sources but can't do that either since it launches from the System Administer Software Sources and guess what? Needs sudo... But like all good linux software I'm sure the program is buried in a folder somewhere waiting for me to find it through the all powerful terminal program. Already commented out all Maverick Sources by hand but that didn't do the trick. Now what?

• Wireless problems on HP

  I'm not able to enable Wireless using the hardware switch on my HP ProBook4430s. Because of this the Enable Wireless option is greyd out and I cannot enable it. The greyd out option can be seen in the screenshot below. The results of iwconfig for my system are as follows, lo no wireless extensions. wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:off/any Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=off Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Power Management:off eth0 no wireless extensions. Also I tried to do the following, sudo ifconfig wlan0 up but I got an error as below, SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not possible due to RF-kill Also the result of sudo rfkill list all for my system is as follows, 0: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes 1: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 2: hp-bluetooth: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 3: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no How do I fix this problem? • Maya is lagging in a specific way...?

  My Maya installation worked perfectly. It is not my computer. Something caused it to stop working overnight, somehow. When I try to drag a vertex or something like that, it moves the vertex, but then I have to click like 3 times somewhere outside the mesh before the actual mesh will catch up and follow the vertex. Until I do that, it just stays as it was, with a floating vertex somewhere inside it or outside it. It makes modeling borderline impossible and completely infuriating. What ought to be happening is what we're all used to-- as I move the vertex, the mesh follows it actively, so I can see what it looks like at every given moment until I release the vertex in its new position. Other weird thing: this only applies to complex meshes, like a couple thousand faces. A simple cube works fine. What gives?? Anybody?

Looking at the release date for the popular ones I got somewhat close but I didn't look at less obvious ones, programming languages which are either dead or very little use nowadays. Fortran is the closest thing I got but I don't know if it's real. In a nutshell: What was the first programming language written for computers? Are there any languages that derived from that language?

• Why did the team at LMAX use Java and design the architecture to avoid GC at all cost?

  Why did the team at LMAX design the LMAX Disruptor in Java but all their design points to minimizing GC use? If one does not want to have GC run then why use a garbage collected language? Their optimizations, the level of hardware knowledge and the thought they put are just awesome but why Java? I'm not against Java or anything, but why a GC language? Why not use something like D or any other language without GC but allows efficient code? Is it that the team is most familiar with Java or does Java possess some unique advantage that I am not seeing? Say they develop it using D with manual memory management, what would be the difference? They would have to think low level (which they already are), but they can squeeze the best performance out of the system as it's native.

• How do you balance the speed of Sprints with the customer's conservative adoption schedule?

  I'd prefer to have sprints that last 3-4 weeks, but customers don't want to adopt new feature/function every 3-4 weeks. Existing customers are conservative and, once we meet their minimum bar for features and capabilities, they like to remain on a stable release for much longer than 4 weeks. Even a 3-month cycle would be pushing it for them. On the other hand, newer customers tend to have more feature requests, and are willing to follow sprints. But this willingness dissipates after we've met their bar. How do you balance the need for rapid sprints with the customer's conservative view of application change? I'm particularly interested in SaaS scenarios.

• Can't see YouTube videos in either Firefox or Chromium

  Dont' know why or if it is related, after upgrading Ubuntu 10.04 kernel ( I guess from 2.6.32-38 to -42) I can's see youtube videos. I checked the flash plug-ins installed and I have: (1) flashplugin-installer, (2) flashplugin-nonfree and (3) flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound. I haven't reinstalled the browsers yet. • Errors with linux-image-3.8.0-36-generic and GRUB

  OS: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Problem 1: When installing anything (or updating) it always ends with this error: Errors were encountered while processing: linux-image-3.8.0-36-generic linux-image-3.8.0-38-generic linux-image-generic-lts-raring linux-generic-lts-raring Problem 2: When installing or updating stuff it opens some grub files and halts execution until I close these grub files. See screenshot below. • Will the Global Demand for Water Outstrip the Supply by 2030?

  A recent study conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit and sponsored by Oracle Utilities, titled “Water for All?”,considers the preparedness of utilities to supply water to the current global population of over 7 billion people, with a further 1 billion expected by 2030. It compares strategies used by utilities in 10 major countries to address this challenge. This study’s findings show that wide-ranging water management efforts and large-scale investments must be made if utilities are to meet near-certain water stress—demand outstripping supply—by 2030. The report is based on an online survey of 244 executives of water utilities in these countries, supplemented by in-depth interviews with 20 water utility executives and independent experts. The research concludes that utilities worldwide expect to meet future demand, despite increased supply pressure on supplies, due to improvements in water productivity that the wide range of measures utilities and governments will take to ensure that water is used more efficiently.   Good day everyone! This is my first post on this site ^_^ My question is: What are my options if I need a Web 2.0 gallery software that work in a very similar manner to this removed web site. Essentially: users can create account, then create and manage their own galleries. And all other users and guests can see these galleries, add tags, comments, etc. Basically a community driven gallery web site. When it comes to "normal" cms I know a lot of good options, but I never worked with any gallery management software... If you can suggest me some good solutions (free) it would be great! Also: If you by any chance know what software is used at this removed website it would be even better, because this solution suits me the best and I would have used this engine, but I cant find any information on what this engine is and if it is even public, or privately developed thing. Many clients want a budget and a deadline. It's hard to sell a client on an agile project when our competitors do come up with waterfall-based fixed deadlines and fixed prices. We know their fixed numbers are bad, but the client doesn't know that. So, we end up looking bad to the client because we can't fix the price or a deadline but our competitors can. • Loading Texture2D is extremly slow on XBOX360

  I have ~100 sprites for each level im my XNA game. On windows it takes ~2 seconds to load them all. Unfortunately on XBOX360 it takes ~30-60 seconds. Am i doing something wrong? Essentially the loading code ist just like this: Texture2D sprite1 = levelContent.Load<Texture2D>("images/level_1/my_sprite_1"); ... Texture2D sprite100 = levelContent.Load<Texture2D>("images/level_1/my_sprite_100"); (i use an own content manager for each level to release all level-specific textures at once) Of course i can reduse the ammount of sprites using a spritesheet, but it's extremly painfull for me now. Do i have a better option? And just curious - why is there such huge difference in image loading time?

  Have you ever wanted to connect to the “Windows Internal” database that WSS V3 uses? While “Windows Internal Database” is Microsoft SQL Server 2005 in a limited edition (just like MSDE, WMSDE before it), the familiar access tools to the DB went missing, and connecting using standard ways doesn’t work either. It doesn’t work right out of the box. First, you need SQL Management Studio Express. Install and start it. Specify the following connection string: \\.\pipe\mssql$microsoft##ssee\sql\query Please note that, as implied by the connection string, this connection only works locally.
