• Process development lifecycle in Oracle BPM 11g

     Oracle BPM 11g platform provides two modeling tools tailored to different audience. The BPM Process Composer component is a web-based, role-driven, collaborative platform for discovery, design and documentation of business processes aimed at business audience. It empowers the business user to participate in the definition, feedback and design of business processes. The other modeling tool is Oracle BPM Studio that runs in the JDeveloper IDE .  Irrespective of the tool used, same BPMN and related artifacts are authored - that is , this is not import/export but just multiple tools working with same assets. In addition to BPMN 2.0, both tools provides editors for process data, organizational roles, human tasks (including assignment and user interface), business rules. • Is YQL still used?

  A few years ago, following the explosion of custom web APIs from various services around the world, Yahoo! launched the YQL service, which allows to query data from a variety of different providers with a unified Yahoo Query Language. Having worked with the APIs of Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Google Maps, YouTube and more, I very much enjoy the idea. However, I do not see it mentioned often, and of course this is one of those efforts that makes sense when enough people follow it and expose their API through this layer. Are there some statitics of usage? Or some declarations from Yahoo about the destiny of YQL? I would also be interested in hearing your experience if you have tried it directly.

• Unity and games don't work on new Thinkpad T420

  Here's my setup: Lenovo ThinkPad T420, brand new NVIDIA Graphics Card 4GB of Ram 128GB Solid State Drive Intel Core i5 Processor Given these specs, there's no reason games and Unity shouldn't be working. The strange thing is that both do work when I run from a live USB, but not when Ubuntu is installed to the hard drive. Is there something different with the 3D capabilities of running from the computer as opposed to running from the live USB? Edit: Some more information: When I log in for the first time when running from the hard drive, Ubuntu says "It seems that you do not have the hardware required to run Unity. Please choose Ubuntu Classic at the login screen and you will be using the traditional environment."

• Keyboard Mouse Problem

  I just installed Ubuntu on my laptop (Core 2 Duo Sony Vaio) and am having a problem with the external keyboard and mouse. When I first logged in the left mouse button does not work, this can be solved by unplugging the external keyboard/mouse's USB connector and then plugging it back in again. But Then randomly other problems happen. (Shift gets stuck, keys don't work etc) The keyboard and mouse are a generic brand wireless (A4 Tech) that I got for cheap. Both work OK under windows so this is a major pain.

  Considering the PCWorld review that came out in March: Free Android Apps Packed with Ads are Major Battery Drains ...Researchers from Purdue University in collaboration with Microsoft claim that third-party advertising in free smartphone apps can be responsible for as much as 65 percent to 75 percent of an app's energy consumption... Is there a best practice for integrating advert support into mobile applications, so as to not drain user battery too much? ...When you fire up Angry Birds on your Android phone, the researchers found that the core gaming component only consumes about 18 percent of total app energy. The biggest battery suck comes from the software powering third-party ads and analytics accounting for 45 percent of total app energy, according to the study... Has anyone invoked better ways of keeping away from the "3G Tail", as the report puts it? Is it better/possible to download a large set of adverts that are cached for a few hours, and using them to populate your ad space, to avoid constant use of the Wi-Fi/3G radios? • Set secondary receiver in PayPal Chained Payment after the initial transaction

  I'm running a service whereby customers seek the services of 'freelancers' through our web platform. The customer will make a 'bid' which is immediately taken from their accounts as security. Once the job is completed, the customer marks it as accepted and the bid gets distributed to the freelancer(s) as a reward. After initially storing these rewards in the accounts of the freelancers and relying on MassPay to sort out paying them later, I realised that your business needs to be turning over at least £5000/month before MassPay is switched on. Instead, I was referred to Delayed Chained Payments in PayPal's Adaptive Payments API. This allows the customer to pay the primary receiver (my business) before the payment is later triggered to be sent to the secondary receivers (the freelancers). However, at the time that the customer initiates this transaction, you must understand that nobody yet knows who will receive the reward. So, before I program this whole Adaptive Payments system, is it even possible to change or add the secondary receivers after the customer has paid? If not, what can I do?

  Imagine you have implemented the creation of a nice path-based star shape in Lisp. Then you discover Processing and you re-implement the whole code, because Processing/Java/Java2D is different. Then you want to tinker with libcinder, so you port your code to C++/Cairo. You are (re)writing a lot of boiler plate code, while the actual requirement "create a star shape" (or "create a path, moveto x y, lineto x y") has not changed. What are the options to encapsulate those implementation details? Some sort of pragmatic meta-programming? Maybe an expert system? How would you define your core business logic as language-independent as possible?

• Screensaver does not activate properly [closed]

  I do not know if this is a known feature/bug in Unity, and I am also unaware of how else to report bug-related things. I was listening to some music using banshee. My services was called upon (My SO wanted me to help with the dishes) so I clicked on the sound icon and paused the music. I left the sound icon menu open. When I came back much later, the screensaver had not yet activated. Once I closed the menu, the screensaver immediately kicked in. I am assuming that this kind of behavior is not intended. This is also easily reproducible for anyone. Has anyone else experienced this kind of behavior? Is this a (known) bug?

  Hy. I have a service similar to bit.ly. The link generation method is similar but the site is not. A user uses my site just like the mentioned bit.ly, but i offer a differnet kind of service for which i would want to rank (on Google) for. If i were to generate links such as: mysite.com/my-keywords/1Asdf34 would it be considered spammy or black hat? The same for bit.ly would be: bit.ly/url-shortening-services/3k1dS4sd For bit.ly it would defeat the purpose, but url length in my case does not have to be short.

  In the Silverlight world, there are two types of cross-domain things that may leave some banging their head against a wall for a while.   I think I have a decent grasp of what Dependency Inversion principle (DIP) is, my confusion is more around dependency injection. My understanding is the whole point of DI is to decouple parts of an application, to allow changes in one part without effecting another, assuming the interface does not change. For examples sake, we have this public class MyClass(IMyInterface interface) { public MyClass { interface.DoSomething(); } } public interface IMyInterface { void DoSomething(); } How is this var iocContainer = new UnityContainer(); iocContainer.Resolve<MyClass>(); better practice than doing this //if multiple implementations are possible, could use a factory here. IMyInterface interface = new InterfaceImplementation(); var myClass = new MyClass(interface); It may be I am missing a very important point, but I am failing to see what is gained. I am aware that using an IOC container I can easily handle an objects life cycle, which is a +1 but I don't think that is core to what IOC is about.

  On upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10 my system is hanged. So after waiting for 30 min. I tried to restart. Some file are corrupted. I inserted my 13.04 disk and started in rescue mode. Finally My system started Then, I upgraded some apps again. Now my system upgraded to 13.10. Finally Done. But, Now the bugs raised. On my start key I got only my online services. No other applications, recently used, music, video icons are not showing. I am facing huge problem. I am unable to see my application what i installed. I checked in unity tweak tool all are fine. So, I ask any one to solve this issue.

• Suggestions for Future or On-The-Edge Languages (2011)

  I'm just looking for some suggestions on newer languages and language implementations that are useful for string manipulation. It's now 2011 and a lot has changed over the years. Most of my work includes web development (which is mostly text-based) and command line scripting. I'm pretty language agnostic, although I've felt violated using PHP over the years. My only requirements are that the language be good at text manipulation, without a lot of 3rd party libraries (core libraries are okay, though), and that the language and/or standard implementation is very up to date or even "futuristic". For example, the two main languages I'm looking at right now are Python (Version 3.x) or Perl (Version 6.x). Research, Academic, and Experimental languages are okay with me. I don't mind functional languages although I'd like to have the option of programming in a procedural or even object oriented manner. Thanks!

• Can't activate "mirror display"

  I have Ubuntu 12.04 on a Dell latitude E6410, I have a problem when using the VGA output I always have dual monitor and can't switch on the "mirror display" toggle under systems setting/displays. It's rather annoying when having to do presentation with a video projector. the option "mirror display" is in light grey and I can"t tick the box.   I was told once that the best place to work as a developer is a company where the software you write is what makes the company money, whether it be software production or software services like consulting. This is opposed to a company where the software you write is just to support some other part of the business that makes the money, like manufacturing or finance. I know there are always exceptions, but in general, are employees treated better if they are on the front lines of profit generation, as opposed to being just another cost center? cost center (n.) - A cost center is part of an organization that does not produce direct profit and adds to the cost of running a company. Examples of cost centers include research and development departments, marketing departments, help desks and customer service/contact centers.

  After successfully installing Xubuntu 12.04.1 on my laptop, I decided to install Unity. That went OK but then I realized there was no themes. So then I installed the themes and artwork, and got a really bad surprise. My lightDM greeter was still Xubuntu like I wanted but the buttons where you choose the user are really tall and I have a purple computer as the icon above my computer name. How do I get back to the original Xubuntu configuration or edit the CSS while keeping Unity? I know where all of the files are but don't know which file to edit or which CSS property to modify.   I am using VB.net to write a parallel based code. I use Parallel.For to generate pairs of 500 objects or in combination C(500,2) such as the following code; but I found that it didn't always generate all combinations which should be 124750 (shown from variable Counter). No other thread was runing when this code was run. I am using a Win-7 32 Bit desktop with Intel Core i5 CPU [email protected], 3.33 GHz and RAM 2GB.
