• Migrating Ruby Site from EngineYard to Heroku

  As part of a larger project I've been tasked with migrating some existing Ruby on Rails sites (built with an old version of refinerycms 0.9.6.34, at least that's the version listed in the Gemfile included with the source). I don't normally work with Ruby so I'm at a bit of a loss. The previous developers simply handed over the latest git dump as well as a db dump. I'm working first with trying to get the site up working locally on an Ubuntu 11.10 local machine before pushing up to at test Heroku install. If it's possible to just push directly to Heroku with the files they gave, then I can try that, but it's my understanding I need to get everything working and then use Heroku's tools to deploy. The previous devs said they're using ruby 1.8.7 so in Ubuntu I've done the following: aptitude install ruby1.8 ruby1.8-dev ruby1.8-full aptitude install rubygems1.8 I've restored the database and in the config directory I've made changes to the database.yml to point to the restored database. • C# WCF client configuration for X509 secured web service over https

  Hi guys I been pulling my hair out for the past few days trying to connect to a web service using .Net 3.5 and WCF (have also tried using WSE 3.0) without much luck. The web service is hosted by a 3rd party and we can access via https. They also make use of X509 certificates for security, to sign the message. I've been given some basic info and am able to connect and test the service using SOAP UI 3.5 without any problems, so we know that this is not the issue. Just trying to get it done in code! I've added the X509 certificate into the certificate store using the mmc snap-in, and using tracing and logging i can see that the message is being signed, just unable to see which part i have got wrong. Any healp GREATLY appreciated :) I've been given an offline WSDL file, which I have imported in as a service reference is VS 2008. • Arduino - AdHoc Network Setup

  I`m currently working with an arduino trying to build an adhoc network to which a device can connect to and send web request to. The problem I am currently having is that I can only set up one connection and then when that connection is terminated (client.stop()) all subsequent connections are not picked up by the server, even a curl command just sits there spinning. The first connection I start when I reset the server works fine and I am able to talk to the server; but after that, the arduino can no longer find new clients (even though it's trying with the library given). I`m using the sparkfun library for the wifly shield cloned from github, along with an Arduino Uno. My current code is based off their default example 'WiFly_AdHoc_Example' but I had to remove a few things to get the network to start up which might be the cause of this problem. EDIT: Using telnet I can successfully connect (the first time) and send commands to the arduino including one to terminate the connection (calls the client.stop() method). But when I try to reconnect though telnet, it says the connection was successful but on the arduino it's still looping thinking the client is still false. WHAT??? I know right, I'm getting mixed messages from telnet vs arduino. None of the commands work obviously since the ardunio is still looping waiting for a client that evaluates to true. I'm gonna take a look at WiFlyServer from the library I imported and see if I can dig up the problem because somehow that server.available() method isn't finding new clients. Noticing a lot of TODO's in the library code.... EDIT: So I found the reason for the problem, it was in WiFlyServer.cpp file from the sparkfun library. The code that was causing the reconnect issue was infact in the server.availible() method. Right at the top of the method, there is a check: // TODO: Ensure no active non-server client connection. if (!WiFly.serverConnectionActive) { activeClient._port = 0; } For some reason when I comment this out, I can reconnect fine and everything works as it should. I will now dive into the library and see if I can fix this, I'm not exactly sure what this is doing but it gets called when the server connection is not active and is somehow blocking subsequent connections. Does anyone have any ideas how I might get to the root of this problem without using this commenting hack? Please help, no-one has commented or answered yet! Don't you want to join in on the fun???

  I try to write a simple Ajax client to send and receive messages. It's successfully deployed but I have never received msg from the client. I am beating myself to think out what I am missing, but still can't make it work. • Users being forced to re-login randomly, before session and auth ticket timeout values are reached

  I'm having reports and complaints from my user that they will be using a screen and get kicked back to the login screen immediately on their next request. It doesn't happen all the time but randomly. After looking at the Web server the error that shows up in the application event log is: Event code: 4005 Event message: Forms authentication failed for the request. Reason: The ticket supplied has expired. Everything that I read starts out with people asking about web gardens or load balancing. We are not using either of those. We're a single Windows 2003 (32-bit OS, 64-bit hardware) Server with IIS6. This is the only website on this server too. This behavior does not generate any application exceptions or visible issues to the user. They just get booted back to the login screen and are forced to login. As you can imagine this is extremely annoying and counter-productive for our users. Here's what I have set in my web.config for the application in the root: <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms name=".TcaNet" protection="All" timeout="40" loginUrl="~/Login.aspx" defaultUrl="~/MyHome.aspx" path="/" slidingExpiration="true" requireSSL="false" /> </authentication> I have also read that if you have some locations setup that no longer exist or are bogus you could have issues. I've read some things that say you should have the authentication timeout shorter (40) than the session timeout (45) to avoid possible complications. Either way we have users that get kicked to the login screen a minute or two after their last action. So the session definitely should not be expiring. Update 2/23/09: I've since set the session timeout and authentication ticket timeout values to both be 45 and the problem still seems to be happening. The only other web.config in the application is in 1 virtual directory that hosts Community Server. • Cascading S3 Sink Tap not being deleted with SinkMode.REPLACE

  We are running Cascading with a Sink Tap being configured to store in Amazon S3 and were facing some FileAlreadyExistsException (see [1]). This was only from time to time (1 time on around 100) and was not reproducable. Digging into the Cascading codem, we discovered the Hfs.deleteResource() is called (among others) by the BaseFlow.deleteSinksIfNotUpdate(). Btw, we were quite intrigued with the silent NPE (with comment "hack to get around npe thrown when fs reaches root directory"). From there, we extended the Hfs tap with our own Tap to add more action in the deleteResource() method (see [2]) with a retry mechanism calling directly the getFileSystem(conf).delete. The retry mechanism seemed to bring improvement, but we are still sometimes facing failures (see example in [3]): it sounds like HDFS returns isDeleted=true, but asking directly after if the folder exists, we receive exists=true, which should not happen. Logs also shows randomly isDeleted true or false when the flow succeeds, which sounds like the returned value is irrelevant or not to be trusted. Can anybody bring his own S3 experience with such a behavior: "folder should be deleted, but it is not"? We suspect a S3 issue, but could it also be in Cascading or HDFS? We run on Hadoop Cloudera-cdh3u5 and Cascading 2.0.1-wip-dev.   I have a service being hosted in IIS on XP via fileless activation. The service starts fine when there is no SSL port enabled for IIS but when the SSL port is enabled, I get the error message: System.ServiceModel.ServiceActivationException: The service '/SkillsPrototype.Web/services/Linkage.svc' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation. The exception message is: A binding instance has already been associated to listen URI 'http://rcollet.hsb-corp.hsb.com/SkillsPrototype.Web/Services/Linkage.svc'. If two endpoints want to share the same ListenUri, they must also share the same binding object instance. • Why can i read dirty rows in MySql

  I cant believe this, i always throught the below would be concurrency safe. I write to a row in one transaction and i am able to read the dirty value from another transaction/command/connection! Why is this possible (not my main question) isnt this not desired and cause more troubles!?! Anyways, i expected that once i write to a row nothing else will be able to read to the row until the transaction is finished. And at least if the row can be still read that the clean (original) value will be read. (but maybe that would cause problems as well if the transaction doesnt use the newly commited data from the other transaction when it is ran) I would like count to == 11. I thought this would be safe in all variants of sql. • PHP: Strange behaviour while calling custom php functions

  I am facing a strange behavior while coding in PHP with Flex. Let me explain the situation: I have two funcions lets say: populateTable() //puts some data in a table made with flex createXML() //creates an xml file which is used by Fusion Charts to create a chart Now, if i call populateTable() alone, the table gets populated with data but if i call it with createXML(), the table doesn't get populated but createXML() does it's work i.e. creates an xml file. Even if i run following code, only xml file gets generated but table remains empty whereas i called populateTable() before createXML(). Any idea what may be going wrong? • Rails validation count limit on has_many :through

  I've got the following models: Team, Member, Assignment, Role The Team model has_many Members. Each Member has_many roles through assignments. Role assignments are Captain and Runner. I have also installed devise and CanCan using the Member model. What I need to do is limit each Team to have a max of 1 captain and 5 runners. I found this example, and it seemed to work after some customization, but on update ('teams/1/members/4/edit'). It doesn't work on create ('teams/1/members/new'). But my other validation (validates :role_ids, :presence = true ) does work on both update and create. Any help would be appreciated. Update: I've found this example that would seem to be similar to my problem but I can't seem to make it work for my app. It seems that the root of the problem lies with how the count (or size) is performed before and during validation. For Example: When updating a record... It checks to see how many runners there are on a team and returns a count. (i.e. 5) Then when I select a role(s) to add to the member it takes the known count from the database (i.e. 5) and adds the proposed changes (i.e. 1), and then runs the validation check. (Team.find(self.team_id).members.runner.count 5) This works fine because it returns a value of 6 and 6 5 so the proposed update fails without saving and an error is given. But when I try to create a new member on the team... It checks to see how many runners there are on a team and returns a count. (i.e. 5) Then when I select a role(s) to add to the member it takes the known count from the database (i.e. 5) and then runs the validation check WITHOUT factoring in the proposed changes. This doesn't work because it returns a value of 5 known runner and 5 = 5 so the proposed update passes and the new member and role is saved to the database with no error.   I have been banging my head with this one more the two weeks, and still don't know what the problem is ( I can't narrow it down). The problem is the following. I have a solution with 3 project in it all written in c# and I with LINQ. One project is the main web site, the other is the data layer (communication with the database) and the third one is a custom little CMS. The problem is the following: On a hosting provider when I publish the site it all works perfectly, but this site was needed to be hosted on the client server so I needed to do that.   I have this problem that I cannot fix. From my @Controller, i can easily access my autowired @Service class and play with it no problem. But when I do that from a separate class without annotations, it gives me a NullPointerException. • 'Step Into' is suddenly not working in Visual Studio

  All of a sudden, I have run into an issue where I cannot step into any code through debugging in Visual Studio. The step over works fine, but it refuses to step into (F11) any of my code. This was working before, now all of a sudden it does not. I've tried some things below, but I still had no success: Delete all bin files in every project in my solution, clean solution, re-build solution. Build projects in solution indivdualy Restart machine It an ASP.NET C# application consuming a WCF sevice locally. It is in debug mode. I have a breakpoint set on the page consuming the service. The breakpoint hits, but it will not step into the service code. The ASP.NET site and the service code is all in the same solution. This all of a sudden does not work, it did work before. How can I fix this problem? Adding a breakpoint to the service project I get a warning: Breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document. I deleted all the bin folders for all the projects and re-built them one by one. They all succeeded, but still I am getting the symbols won't load on any breakpoint I put into any project in the solution other than the ASP.NET project where the breakpoint works. I was able to debug step into all the projects before, this is an all of a sudden thing. Information from the output window.. • Compile error with initializer_list when trying to use it to initialize member value of class

  I am trying to make a class initializable from an initialization_list in a class constructor's constructor's initialization list. It works for a std::map, but not for my custom class.   Hi all, i need to generate the same number of text files as the xml files i have. Within the text files, i need the title and maybe some other tags of it. I can generate text files with the elements i wanted but not all xml files can be generated. Only some of them are generated. Something might be wrong with my parser so help out please thanks.
