  • Fetch MP3 ID3 tag under linux

    - by exic
Hi, I have a few mp3 files which are not tagged. Winamp has a nice feature which I think is called "autotag" and which is very good at finding out artist and title for files. I'd like something like this for unix, so that I could possibly get artists and titles for my untagged files. Do you know some program which does this? Thanks.

  • Howto play video with external audio in Silverlight?

    - by Fury
Hi all, Is there any proper method to play synchronously video and external audio, other than simply having two MediaElement (one for video source and one for audio) started simultaneously? I need to play video with different soundtracks, but I belive that just two separated MediaElements will be out of sync at some point of time. Maybe there is some way to add audio source to the existing MediaElement with video? Platform: SL3, but SL4 will be good as well. Thanks in advance.

  • List of valid characters for the fragment identifier in an URL?

    - by sohtimsso1970
I'm using the fragment identifier to create a permalink for AJAX events in my web app similar to this guy. Something like: http://www.myapp.com/calendar#filter:year/2010/month/5 I've done quite a bit of searching but can't find a list of valid characters for the fragment idenitifer. The W3C spec doesn't offer anything. Do I need to encode the characters the same as the URL in has in general? There doesn't seem to be any good information on this anywhere.

  • jQuery-ui themeroller base2.css

    - by cf_PhillipSenn
I'm learning jQuery-UI, and would like to put together a good looking page, so I'm looking at base2.css from the themeroller site. Q: Is there anything anyone can tell me about base2.css? Is there any documentation on it? How much is specific to only the themeroller site itself, and how much of it is useful for sites that use themeroller themes?

  • ORM vs SQL XML, very simple middle-tier

    - by synergetic
I know it is rather heated question. But anyway I'd like to hear opinions of those in Stackoverflow. Given that XML support is quite good in SQL Server 2005/2008, and there's no concern about database independency, why one need Linq-to-SQL, Entity Framework, NHibernate and the likes, which are quite complex and awkward in advanced use-cases, if by using POCOs, XmlSerializer, and stored procedures which process XML, one can achieve a lot less complex middle-tier? For reference, see the link: http://weblogs.asp.net/jezell/archive/2007/04/13/who-needs-orm-i-ve-got-sql-2005.aspx

  • Genetic/Evolutionary algorithms and local minima/maxima problem

    - by el.gringogrande
I have run across several posts and articles that suggests using things like simulated annealing to avoid the local minima/maxima problem. I don't understand why this would be necessary if you started out with a sufficiently large random population. Is it just another check to insure that the initial population was, in fact, sufficiently large and random? Or are those techniques just an alternative to producing a "good" initial population?

  • How difficult is Haskell multi-threading?

    - by mvid
I have heard that in Haskell, creating a multi-threaded application is as easy as taking a standard Haskell application and compiling it with the -threaded flag. Other cases, however, have described the use of a par command within the actual source code. What is the state of Haskell multi-threading? How easy is it to introduce into programs? Is there a good multi-threading tutorial that goes over these different commands and their uses?

  • Edit very large xml files

    - by Matt
I would like to create a text box which loads xml files and let users edit them. However, I cannot use XmlDocument to load since the files can be very large. I am looking for options to stream/load the xml document in chunks so that I do not get out of memory errors -- at the same time, performance is important too. Could you let me know what would be good options?

Obviously, I am a novice web designer. I'm using php and sql to do all the under-the-hood stuff, but I want a visually appealing as well as functional comment system. Right now I am just using HTML forms but they don't look very good. Should I be using javascript? Any tips to get me started?
