• How to avoid being an API programmer only?

  I have almost six years of experience in java. I have developed many projects which used frameworks like Struts, Spring, Hibernate, JQuery , DWR, Ajax etc. I have used these technologies in almost all the projects I have worked on. Projects were very simple mostly with crud based apps. My everyday tasks involves creating few screens, writing queries, testing etc. After all these years I feel like I have turned into an API programmer who just uses these above mentioned frameworks which is not giving me any satisfaction of being a programmer. Is this normal or is it just me who is feeling like this?

• Latest Exadata Quarterly Full Stack Patch

  The latest Quarterly Full Stack patch was released on October 17th for Exadata.  This patch contains all of the latest recommended patches for the Exadata Database Machine.  For more details, refer to My Oracle Support Note titled Database Machine and Exadata Storage Server 11g Release 2 (11.2) Supported Versions [888828.1].  Note that the information in the note applies only to Exadata Storage Server Software 11.2.  This note is maintained on a regular basis so bookmark it and use it as reference for the latest Exadata Database Machine patching recommendations.

What does work, and is simpler, is this, instead of the above: private static Feed getFeed(Node node) { Feed f = FileUtil.getConfigObject("RssFeeds/sample.instance", Feed.class); if (f == null) { throw new IllegalStateException("Bogus file in feeds folder: " + node.getLookup().lookup(FileObject.class)); } return f; } So, the code needs to be fixed in the sample.

• Launch Specific OEPE Workspace from the Start Menu

  I frequently have multiple Eclipse-based projects running simultaneously, sometimes on different versions of Eclipse. I have made a mess of a few workspaces by accidentally opening them in the wrong version of Eclipse. To thwart my own forgetfulness, I went seeking a way to launch directly to a workspace and found it at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/209789/starting-eclipse-w-specific-workspace. Essentially, add the -data switch to your icon's open command, such as: C:\eclipse\eclipse.exe -data E:\MyData\Clients\Confidential\EclipseGCDPGive it a unique name and stick it on your Start Menu (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu). Makes my life a bit easier and hopefully yours, too.

It is titled "The Accessibility Act – ensuring access to goods and services across the EU", and I will be part of a distinguished panel exploring some of the issues the upcoming European Accessibility Act may address - with a particular emphasis in my case on the role of ICT accessibility. This morning policy dialog will be followed by a more focused workshop in the afternoon looking at specific challenges and potential solutions to those challenges. • Getting Started Quickly

  If you're interested in using Ops Center, you'll want to get up and running as quickly and effectively as possible. One way to do this would be to work your way through the documentation library - use the Linux or Oracle Solaris install guides, then go through the Feature Guide and Admin Guide to start using the software. They're thorough, but they're a lot of reading. But if you're looking to install a simple deployment quickly, and you don't want to do all of the configuration work right off the bat, you can use the Quick Start Guide. It's a streamlined procedure that runs you through installing a single Enterprise Controller and co-located Proxy Controller, and then shows you how to discover assets quickly. Once you've discovered these assets, it describes how to use the analytics feature to view their performance, and use monitoring to keep track of their statuses and health. You'll have to do some additional configuration to use features like OS provisioning, OS updates, and virtualization, but the Quick Start guide gives you an overview of how to install and start using features quickly.

• JVM Language Summit 2012 - Registration Open

This is an "an open technical collaboration among language designers, compiler writers, tool builders, runtime engineers, and VM architects". There are presentations, workshops, and lightning talks. • AntClassLoader bug exposed by forgetful NetBeans

  Many users have run into ClassNotFoundExceptions and NoClassDefFoundErrors after working with web services that target GlassFish while developing their projects in NetBeans. The issue usually appears as a dialog similar to this This can be pretty debilitating. The bug appears to be in the AntClassLoader, which is tickled by the wsimport ant task that ships with GlassFish 3.1.2. The fix is pretty simple: Upgrade the Metro bits that ship in 3.1.2 with bits that have had a patch applied. There are detailed instruction about installing the updated Metro bits onto GlassFish. This upgrade is probably useful for any install of GlassFish 3.1, but it is critically important for folks that develop web services from inside NetBeans and deploy them onto GlassFish 3.1.2.

• New code release today - 2011.1.4.2

  Wow, two blog entries in the same day! When I wrote the large 'Quota' blog entry below, I did not realize there would be a micro-code update going out the same evening. So here it is. Code 2011.1.4.2 has just been released. You can get the readme file for it here: https://wikis.oracle.com/display/FishWorks/ak-2011.04.24.4.2+Release+Notes Download it, of course, through the MOS website. It looks like it fixes a pretty nasty bug. Get it if you think it applies to you. Unless you have a great reason NOT to upgrade, I would strongly advise you to upgrade to 2011.1.4.2. Why? Because the readme file says they STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU ALL UPGRADE TO THIS CODE IMMEDIATELY using LOTS OF CAPITAL LETTERS. That's good enough for me. Be sure to run the health check like the readme tells you to.

• Plugins in Ops Center and Cloud Control

  Cloud Control just released an updated plugin for Oracle Virtual Networking, so I thought I'd mention a bit about how both Ops Center and Cloud Control use plugins. On the Ops Center side, we have a plugin to connect Ops Center to Cloud Control, letting them share monitoring data. This guide explains how to install and use that plugin. In Cloud Control, they have a more extensive collection of plugins, letting you link Cloud Control with a variety of other products. The Cloud Control library plug-in tab goes into more detail about how you can use these plugins in your environment.

• Reduced Tree View in NetBeans IDE 7.2

  Right-click within the Projects window in NetBeans IDE 7.2 and from the "View Java Packages As" menu, you can now choose "Reduced Tree".I never really understood the difference between "Reduced Tree" and the already existing "Tree". But it makes sense when you see it. Here's Reduced Tree view: And here's Tree view, where you can see that the "actions" and "nodes" packages above each have their own top level package nodes, which takes up more space than the above: What's cool is that your selected package view is persisted across restarts of the IDE. To be complete, here's the List view, which is the third option you have in the "View Java Packages As" menu: Seems to me like the new Reduced Tree view combines the best of the Tree view with the best of the List view! • Global Adopt a JSR Program Update
