• Advise some swing based (open source) project to join

  I am looking for some open source Swing based projects which wanted volunteer Java developers to join and the projects which show their products authors' names. I watched many links but most projects for some reason hide their authors names (showing some nick names or something...) and all developing process relative information... For example this one project it seems fine but still I couldn't find any information concerning some current project task(s), its developers group, some chronicles (tips, milestones, feedbacks etc) :( I googled a lot but found less :S So I wondering maybe you know some? I dearly hope you can give me a piece of advice Any useful comment is much appreciated

• JET now available on OTN

  I know some of you have been waiting patiently, so I'm pleased to announce that the JET bundle is now available for download on the Oracle Technology Network. I've migrated most of the content from the old Sun wiki site, and got the download in a single handy location on OTN. Download JET now.  The version available is the current latest, which is 4.9.4. This version contains a number of updates, the most significant of which is the ability to specify slot locations instead of the traditional cXtYdZsN nomenclature. This is pretty useful when trying to Jumpstart multiple servers with SAS2.0 based HBAs, as they will have the WWN embedded in the cXtYdZsN name, and it's pretty difficult to guess what that will be until you've booted the server. The JetSDS and JetZFS modules have also been updated to use the slot terminology. Happy JETing,

• JEditorPane Code Completion (Part 3)

  The final step is to put an object into the Lookup on key listening in each of the JEditorPanes, e.g., a "City" object for the CityEditorPane and a "Country" object for the CountryEditorPane. Then, within the CompletionProviders, only add items to the CompletionResultSet if the object of interest is in the Lookup. The result is that you can then have different code completions in different JEditorPanes, as shown below: I've also included the Tools | Options | Editor | Code Completion tab, so that the code completion can be customized.   To start out our ghost hunting here at the Oracle Santa Clara campus office, we first need a ghost sensor. It's pretty easy to build one, since all we need to do is to create a circuit that can detect small fluctuations in the electromagnetic field, just like the fluctuations that ghosts cause when they pass by... Naturally, right? So, we build a static charge sensor and will use a Java Embedded app to monitor for changes in the sensor value, running analytics using Java technology on a Raspberry Pi. Bob's your uncle, and there you have it: a ghost sensor. • Scrum in a consulting environment?

  Is it possible to introduce scrum to a consulting environment? On any given week I might belong to 4 different teams, each with a different PM, BA and dev team (I am a designer). It doesn't seem feasible, time wise, to be able to be part of that many teams/projects as there would need to be daily stand-ups for each, sprint reviews, etc. I should add these projects are not necessarily software, but mainly ecommerce web projects. Can someone who has done this speak to how you approach it?

• Free & Open Source XML Editor Built on Maven

  Here you can download the sources of an XML Editor that uses libraries from NetBeans IDE 7.3 Beta 2 as its basis, while using Maven as its build system: http://java.net/projects/nb-api-samples/sources/api-samples/show/versions/7.3/misc/XMLEditorInMavenNBRCP And here's what it looks like to the user: Note: The Favorites window has been rebranded as "File Browser" and Nimbus is used for the look and feel, thanks to a .conf file that is registered in the POM of the application project.  The cool part is that I didn't type one line of code to get the above result and that only those pieces that an XML Editor actually needs are included in the application, though it could be pruned even further.

• GlassFish Downloads - Where? (reminder)

At the time of this writing (Nov. 2011), the latest stable release is GlassFish 3.1.1 (open source bits, supported Oracle GlassFish Server). Now it's time to give it a refresh, but even if I have a strong experience and I worked recently on many big projects my resume "feels" quite old. Maybe is the format (in Europe we have europass that is a standard) that doesn't fit the work of a developer, I don't know. Or maybe it's only me: it's 2012 and I start thinking that showing a list of projects and a bunch of acronyms in a CV like PHP, HTML, JS, CSS, whatever is quite boring for a recruiter. How is your resume? What is in your opinion the best format (a little website, a PDF showcase of the projects I worked on, just a standard CV, etc...) for a webdeveloper?

• JavaFX 2.2.4 Documentation

  JavaFX 2.2.4 and JDK 7u10 were released on Tuesday. In addition to the release documentation, the following new information is provided: A new document, Using the Image Ops API, describes how to read and write raw pixel data to and from JavaFX images. The Handling JavaFX Events document has been updated with more information on touch events. The Working with Touch Events chapter and Touch Events sample provide information about handling individual touch points to provide sophisticated responses to touch actions. The Implementing Best Practices document has been updated to include information about running tasks on background threads. The Troubleshooting section of Deploying JavaFX Applications now includes a section about disabling the automatic proxy configuration in your application code.   I am currently working as an SDET(Software devlopment Engineer in Test). I have been doing some programming in C# as my job needs. I want to expand my knowledge and experience by creating some simple tools and applications of my own. Consider this like academic projects that are created by students at the end of their course . The idea is to have a practical knowledge on the subjects that I have a theoritical knowledge about. For Eg - I have read about multithreading and have worked on the examples but I do not have a grip over the concepts. In order to get a good grip over the concepts I want to work over some projects involving multithreading, starting with a simple one. Similarly other concepts like REST/SOAP web services using WCF. How should I design a curriculum for my self to go about learning these concepts/ technologies and creating some projects of my own. Thanks, Srivalli

(I literally woke up a few times, which means I must have been sleeping.) I loved it even though it was on a topic that doesn't really interest me as such, I just happen to know the speaker. (And I was too tired to stumble back to the hotel for a nap so thought I'd do so while attending a session thereby killing two birds with one stone.) It's really funny and educational. • NetBeans 7.1 Release Candidate (RC) 1 is here

  NetBeans 7.1 RC 1 is here. Grab it from the usual place! As previously discussed, NetBeans 7.1 has full JavaFX 2.0 support but also a lot in store for Java EE and Web developers (CDI in particular is very neat). One of my personal favorite feature is that Deploy on Save is now set by default on Maven projects. Maybe one important part that didn't get proper coverage so far is CSS 3 support, an important feature which can be used from both Java EE and PHP but also from JavaFX. Java Downloads of NetBeans 7.1 start at 69 MB and a 166 MB download will get you everything you need to start coding right away with Java EE - a great tool and a fully integrated runtime (GlassFish 3.1.1). You really need to be not using Maven, not be interested in recent standards (Java EE 6, Java SE 7, Java FX 2.0, ...) and like to hand-craft assemble your IDE to afford ignoring NetBeans nowadays.
