  Hi- I am trying to use the RegularExpressionValidator Control in Visual Studio to validate a textbox for email address expressions. • JAX-RS --- How to return JSON and HTTP Status code together?

  I'm writing REST web app (Netbean6.9, JAX-RS, Toplink-essential) and trying to return JSON and Http status code. I have code ready and working just to return JSON when HTTP GET Method is called from client. Code snippet @Path("get/id") @GET @Produces("application/json") public M_?? getMachineToUpdate(@PathParam("id") String id) { //some code to return JSON . . return myJson But I also want to return HTTP status code (500, 200, 204 etc) along with returning JSON. I tried using HttpServletResponse object, response.sendError("error message", 500); But this made browser to think it's real 500 so output web page was regular Http 500 error page. What I want to is just to return status code so that my Javascript on client side can handle some logic depending on what HTTP status code is returned. (maybe just to display the error code and message on html page.) Is it possible to do so? or should HTTP status code not be used for such thing?

• Extjs - Loading Grid when call

  I have form and grid. the user must enter data in form fields then display related records in the grid. I want to implement a search form, e.g: user will type the name and gender of the student, then will get a grid of all students have the same name and gender. So, I use ajax to send form fields value to PHP and then creat a json_encode wich will be used in grid store. I am really not sure if my idea is good. But I haven't found another way to do that. The problem is when I set autoLoad to true in the store, the grid automatically filled with all data - not just what I asked for - So, I understand that I have to set autoLoad to false, but then the result not shown in the grid even it returned successfully in the firebug! I don't know what to do. • need help with mvc & routes

  I'm very new to MVC and I'm trying to get a new site set up using it. For SEO reasons we need to make the url of a page something like "Recruiter/4359/John_Smith" or basically {controller}/{id}/{name}. I have that working when I create the url in the code behind like so... //r is a recruiter object that is part of the results for the view r.Summary = searchResult.Summary + "... &lt;a href=\"/Recruiter/" + r.Id + "/" + r.FirstName + "_" + r.LastName + "\"&gt;Read More&lt;/a&gt;" But when I am using the collection of results from a search in my view and iterating through them I am trying to create another link to the same page doing something like <%=Html.ActionLink<RecruiterController>(x => x.Detail((int)r.Id), r.RecruiterName)%> but that doesn't work. When I use that code in the view it gives me a url in the form of /Recruiter/Detail/4359 I was told by a coworker that I should use the Html.ActionLink to create the link in both the view and the controller so that if the route changes in the future it will automatically work. Unfortunately he wasn't sure how to do that in this case. So, my problems are... How can I make the Html.ActionLink work in the view to create a url like I need (like r.Summary above)? How do I use the Html.ActionLink in a controller instead of hardcoding the link like I have above?

• Passing jquery JSON from Codeigniter controller to view

  I've been struggling to make it work, but cannot pass the inserted data from the controler to the view in CI using JSON. The input value from the form is successfully inserted into the database, but cannot make it appear in the view. • $().buttonset not working on dialog modal box JQUERY

  Hello everyone! I've done a dialog box that contains a form inside it, and I would like to add some jquery fancy items to it. I've been trying with $().buttonset() as I've done with most of my radio buttons in the application, in order to get a coherent IU for my application. The thing is that, even if following the rules specified, the buttons remain as a normal radio button, and not with the fancy interface. Do you know what could be the problem? This is the part of the form where I want the fancy radio buttons: <div id ="Replace"> <input type="radio" name="Replace" value = "true" id = "ReplaceYes" onclick = "setReplace(this)" /> <label for="ReplaceYes">Yes</label> <input type="radio" name="Replace" value = "false" checked="checked" id = "ReplaceNo" onclick = "setReplace(this)" /> <label for="ReplaceNo">No</label> </div> And then, as the previous part of code is in a partial view, invoked when showing the modal box, this is how I try to convert the buttons appearance: $("#Replace").buttonset(); The thing is that, debugging it I've seen that it goes through that part of the code, but it doesn't do what it's meant to do.   Hi, I'm having a little problem changing members of an object in a list using a found index. I check if the item fits in and if it does, I see if there is another item of the same name in the list, find the index, and add more of the item. However, the quantity of the item added suddenly becomes the same as the quantity of the item in the list. For some reason, this also changes the quantity of the item outside of the list. So therefore, instead of quantities adding up like this: 1, 2, 3, 4, they add up like this: 1, 2, 4, 8. I've just started to learn how to use lists so if there is anything I'm missing, don't hesitate to criticize. Thanks in advance.

• EditText items in a scrolling list lose their changes when scrolled off the screen

  I have a long scrolling list of EditText items created by a SimpleCursorAdapter and prepopulated with values from an SQLite database. I make this by: cursor = db.rawQuery("SELECT _id, criterion, localweight, globalweight FROM " + dbTableName + " ORDER BY criterion", null); startManagingCursor(cursor); mAdapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.weight_edit_items, cursor, new String[]{"criterion","localweight","globalweight"}, new int[]{R.id.criterion_edit, R.id.localweight_edit, R.id.globalweight_edit}); this.setListAdapter(mAdapter); The scrolling list is several emulator screens long. The items display OK - scrolling through them shows that each has the correct value from the database. I can make an edit change to any of the EditTexts and the new text is accepted and displayed in the box. But...if I then scroll the list far enough to take the edited item off the screen, when I scroll back to look at it again its value has returned to what it was before I made the changes, ie. my edits have been lost. In trying to sort this out, I've done a getText to look at what's in the EditText after I've done my edits (and before a scroll) and getText returns the original text, even though the EditText is displaying my new text. It seems that the EditText has only accepted my edits superficially and they haven't been bound to the EditText, meaning they get dropped when scrolled off the screen. Can anyone please tell me what's going on here and what I need to do to force the EditText to retain its edits? Thanks Ian

When I display the page whatever the browser it happens that I can get the same content for both the iframes even if looking at the source code the iframe are still different (based on their src and id). It doesn't happen 100% of the time, I have to refresh sometimes several times to see it. Do you have any clue ? Thanks in advance

  Hi all - I'm designing a library management system for a department at my university and I wanted to enlist your eyes on my proposed schema. This post is primarily concerned with how we store multiple copies of each book; something about what I've designed rubs me the wrong way, and I'm hoping you all can point out better ways to tackle things. For dealing with users checking out books, I've devised three tables: book, customer, and book_copy. The relationships between these tables are as follows: Every book has many book_copies (to avoid duplicating the book's information while storing the fact that we have multiple copies of that book). Every user has many book_copies (the other end of the relationship) The tables themselves are designed like this: ------------------------------------------------ book ------------------------------------------------ + id + title + author + isbn + etc. ------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------ customer ------------------------------------------------ + id + first_name + first_name + email + address + city + state + zip + etc. ------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------ book_copy ------------------------------------------------ + id + book_id (FK to book) + customer_id (FK to customer) + checked_out + due_date + etc. ------------------------------------------------ Something about this seems incorrect (or at least inefficient to me) - the perfectionist in me feels like I'm not normalizing this data correctly. What say ye? Is there a better, more effective way to design this schema? Thanks!

• Getting batch_action functionality in Symfony 1.0

  I'm currently working on a web app written in Symfony. I'm supposed to add an "export to CSV" feature in the backend/administration part of the app for some modules. In the list view, there should be an "Export" button which should provide the user with a csv file of the elements that are displayed (considering filtering criteria). I've created a method in the actions class of the module that takes a comma separated list of ids and generates the CSV, but I'm not really sure how to add the link to it in the view. The problem is that the view doesn't exist anywhere, it's generated on the fly from the data in the generator.yml configuration file. I've posted the relevant part of the file below. I'm new to Symfony, so any help would be appreciated :). Unfortunately, the project is using Symfony 1.0, which doesn't support batch_actions. Currently, I'm working around this with Javascript (I parse the DOM to get the numeric ids (from the display table) and then build the link for the button. I really think there could be a better way for this.

• NHibernate mapping with two special cases

  I am using NHibernate to map a class to a database table. The Part table has an ID column (primary key) and a ParentPart column (along with a few others). class Part { public virtual long ID{ get; set; } public virtual Part ParentPart { get; set; } } The ParentPart is normally another valid part in the part table but I have two special cases. I have a case where the ParentPart column can be 0 (zero) and another case where it can be -1. Neither of these cases currently represent another valid Part object. I was thinking I could make 2 subclasses of Part (ZeroPart and NegativeOnePart) that would never persist. I want the zero and -1 values to be entered in the column but not persist the entire ZeroPart or NegativeOnePart objects. I am unsure how to map this (I'm using hbm files) or if this even the correct approach. How can I map this so that normal valid parts are persisted but I can also handle the special cases? As an aside: My current hbm file has the Part.ID's unsaved value as zero but I think I can just change this in the mapping to something different and default it in the class.

• Updating an image's ImageUrl within a Repeater

  I hope someone can help me. It's a pretty newbie question, I'm afraid. I have an image inside a repeater, and I would like to change its IMAGEURL based on parameter that's being passed to it. <asp:Repeater ID="Repeater" runat="server"> <HeaderTemplate> <asp:Image ID="imgType" runat="server" /> </HeaderTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <%# Eval("DisplayName")%> </ItemTemplate> <SeparatorTemplate> <hr /> </SeparatorTemplate> </asp:Repeater> There is a SWITCH statement in the code behind that is altering the IMAGEURL depending on what's being passed to it. Inevitably, however, the images ID ("imgType") is not visible to the SWITCH statement (presumably because it's inside a REPEATER). Any suggestions on the best way to implement this would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for such a newbie question.

• R: Are there any alternatives to loops for subsetting from an optimization standpoint?

  A recurring analysis paradigm I encounter in my research is the need to subset based on all different group id values, performing statistical analysis on each group in turn, and putting the results in an output matrix for further processing/summarizing. How I typically do this in R is something like the following: data.mat <- read.csv("...") groupids <- unique(data.mat$ID) #Assume there are then 100 unique groups results <- matrix(rep("NA",300),ncol=3,nrow=100) for(i in 1:100) { tempmat <- subset(data.mat,ID==groupids[i]) #Run various stats on tempmat (correlations, regressions, etc), checking to #make sure this specific group doesn't have NAs in the variables I'm using #and assign results to x, y, and z, for example. results[i,1] <- x results[i,2] <- y results[i,3] <- z } This ends up working for me, but depending on the size of the data and the number of groups I'm working with, this can take up to three days. Besides branching out into parallel processing, is there any "trick" for making something like this run faster? For instance, converting the loops into something else (something like an apply with a function containing the stats I want to run inside the loop), or eliminating the need to actually assign the subset of data to a variable?

It doesn't happen, I get "2" when clicking on either. After spending an hour meditating on the code, I decided that it probably happens because dynamic onclick methods for both anchors keep the last value of "i". So I change that loop to for (var i in buttons) { var local_i = i.toString() actions[buttons[i]] = function() { alert(local_i) } } hoping that each dynamic function will get its own copy of "i" with immediate value. But after this change I get "1" popping up when I click on either link. What am I doing wrong? It's a huge show stopper for me.

• IE ignores added onclick attribute

  The Jquery code below works ok with firefox, Safari, Opera but not with IE. I kinda know why this isn't working in IE after reading a lot about it but I do not know how to fix it. My understanding (I think) is that this method will assign a attribute of "onclick" in IE rather than an event method. Therefore it will not fire in IE and the href fires instead which in this case is "#" which is exactly what is happening. • I get NaN when I try to insert some HTML into a DIV element with jQuery

  I am tring to display a text box when a element of class numObj is clicked. For some reason I get NaNNaNaNaNNaNNaNaNaN where I expect to the see the result of the searchForm variable in the code below. I know that NaN stands for Not a Number. What I don't understand is why is Javascript expecting a number? • How to make categories and current page highlighting in PHP?

  I am trying to find some example code or best practices about making CMS-type categories with PHP. This is a problem that has for sure been solved gazillion times but for some reason I am unable to find any example code using PHP about how to implement this. As far as I can tell, there are two parts to the problem. The first one has to with the styling side of things: outputting the link in the navigation so that the current page has a special style (class="active") and to not print out the link for the current page. The second part is handling categories, subcategories and the dynamic pages under the categories. The second part seems pretty straightforward. I am thinking of making it so that the name of the category in the navigation is a link to categories.php?id=x and on this page I just print out the pages with that category id. Then, if the user klicks on a page he will be taken to pages.php?id=y. However, I am not quite sure on how to make a navigation to check if we are now on the current page. Should I just use some case switch or what? Any ideas or links to some good example code are much appreciated.

• Help with MySQL query... Need help ordering a group of rows

  I can tell it best by explaining the query I have, and what I need. I need to be able to get a group of items from the database, grouped by category, manufacturer, and year made. The groupings need to be sorted based on total amount of items within the group. This part is done with the query below. Secondly, I need to be able to show an image of the most expensive item out of the group, which is why I use MAX(items.current_price). I thought MAX() gets the ENTIRE row corresponding to the largest column value. I was wrong, as MAX only gets the numeric value of the largest price. So the query doesnt work well for that. SELECT items.id, items.year, items.manufacturer, COUNT(items.id) AS total, MAX(items.current_price) AS price, items.gallery_url, FROM ebay AS items WHERE items.primary_category_id = 213 AND items.year <> '' AND items.manufacturer <> '' AND items.bad_item <> 1 GROUP BY items.primary_category_id, items.manufacturer, items.year ORDER BY total DESC, price ASC LIMIT 10 if that doesnt explain it well, the results should be something like this id 10548 year 1989 manufacturer bowman total 451 price 8500.00 (The price of the most expensive item in the table/ not the price of item 10548) gallery_url http://ebay.xxxxx (The image of item 10548) A little help please.
