• Connecting Android XML and Code

  I'm new to android and have gotten used to doing all my previous UI in code. I can understand the simple examples, but I'm trying something more complex and have no idea how to do it in code and XML. I'm trying to use the google map api and draw text on the map at a specified spot. I have succeeded in doing so by extending overlay and overriding the draw method using drawtext. This has pretty much accomplished what I'm looking to do, but I want have read that is poor practice. I now want to add a second line below the first and just using \n does not work. I can work it out using another drawtext method, but I figured it would be better to create a custom textview, I just have no idea how to position it using code and encapsulate it inside the overlay. Maybe the way I'm doing it is the best way...

• Font-face, Raphael and IE8

  I am desesperatly trying to get some google font faces to work with Raphael (SVG / VML rendering JavaScript library) on IE8. At first i tried the google fonts code. My second try has been to download and convert the fonts to host my own more complete css. Now the fonts show in the html part of the page (inside a modified bootstrap nav dropdown), but it does not work in the VML canvas (generated by Raphael). • to-many Core Data fetch request behaves oddly with a new store

  I have two entities, Department and Person. Department has a to-many relationship to Person. The Person entity has a hireDate property. I'm using the predicate "count(person) = 0 OR none person.hireDate %@" to find Departments without any Persons in them or Departments that haven't hired anyone since a recent date. When the app first starts up (new user experience) and Departments are inserted and no Person have been inserted, the fetch request with this predicate returns nothing. However, if I create insert a new Person entity and delete it, then save the store, the fetch request will return all the Departments. I've found a work around where, I just insert a new Person and delete it, then save the store, the fetch request as I expected it to work. I've found that inserting a new Person and deleting it without saving will not correct the problem. Is this a bug with Core Data or is this a bug with how I've designed my app?

• Do not use IE browser settings when using a proxy with Indy

  Hi At one of our customer sites, we have a Delphi 2007 application that makes a number of HTTPS requests using indy components. All requests are made using the proxy settings the client provides. For this to work, in IE we have to put the URL's in the trusted zones section. After a month due to security settings the trusted zones are cleared. This means we have to re-add the URLs again to make our application work. Is there a way of bypassing IE settings or using a client side HTTP stack so we do not go through the browser to make https requests? JD

• Simplest way to use isdigit and isalpha commands ?

  Hello, Can anyone briefly explain how do these two commands work ? isdigit and isalpha .. Ofcourse I read online sources before asking the question, but unfortunately I tried them and didnt get them to work. What is the simplest way ? I know it gives back a value, so im assuming I can use it like this : if(isdigit(someinput)==1) return -1; Is that correct ? can I use this for any number ? Can I compare it with a float number ? Can I compare arrays ? Can I also use it when scanning documents or files ? For example, if I want to scanf a text file that has numbers and letters, and determine is what im scanning (isdigit) or (isalpha) ?? Thanks :)

• TABINDEX not working on HyperLinks

• How the hell do you get clients to use your bug tracking system?

  on larger projects i use a simple bug tracking system thats designed to be used by clients i have a lot of trouble convincing clients to use it (they send bug reports via email) does anyone have any strategies they can suggested? also, i have been playing around with a theory as to why this is the case; it goes like this: asking a client to log a bug is like taking your car to a mechanic for a service, and the mechanic hands you the engine oil and says "here, pop that in". basically, the client has paid you to do the work, logging a bug sounds too much like work, so they want you to do it thoughts? -- LM

• GF 3.0.1 + Virtual Server: www.myhost.com:8080/projectname-war => www.myhost.com. How?

  EDIT I need to change www.myhost.com:8080/myproject-war to www.myhost.com. Here is what I've been trying: I configurate the Virtual Server: server. I have still have default Network Listeners to be http-listener-1 and http-listner-2. I change the Default Web Module to ScholarActive#ScholarActive-war.war (The only option in the drop down list, since I only deploy 1 application). For the docroot, I try this ${com.sun.aas.instanceRoot}/applications/ScholarActive/ScholarActive-war_war or this ${com.sun.aas.instanceRoot}/applications/ScholarActive/ Both does not work. What does docroot need to point to, for this to work? what I try to do is: when I type localhost:8080/ScholarActive-war, then my application load, I want to make so that if I type locahost:8080, it will load the app as well, then what left is changed the port to 80. But no luck. Any Idea?

  I'm attempting to use 'jQuery Validate' on a form that requires an email address plus either all items of a shipping address completed or none at all. Using the sample provided by the solution to this question: jQuery Validate - “Either skip these fields, or fill at least X of them”, I have been able to successfully solve the validation of the address group. The problem, however, is that the logic for validating the email address field does not work. From debugging the Validate scripts, the "re-entrant" validation code triggered by calling 'fields.data('being_validated', true).valid();' in the linked example results in a reset of all previously validated errors (i.e. the email validation error is cleared). I have modified some existing samples, the first in which removes the offending line and the second with it included. • What's the best way to apply a drop shadow?

  What is the best method for applying drop shadows? I'm working on a site right now where we have a good deal of them, however, I've been fighting to find the best method to do it. The site is pretty animation heavy so shadows need to work well with this. I tried a jQuery shadow pulgin. The shadows looked good and were easy to use but were slow and didn't work well with any animations (required lots of redrawing, very joggy). I also tried creating my own jQuery extension that wraps my element in a couple gray divs and then offsets them a little bit to give a shadow effect. This worked well. It's quick and responsive to the animation. However, it makes DOM manipulation/traversal cumbersome since everything is wrapped in these shadow divs. I know there has to be a better way but this isn't exactly my forte. Thoughts?

  The company I work for is looking to implement a caching solution. We have several WCF Web Services hosted and we need to cache certain values that can be persisted and fetched regardless of a client's session to a service. I am looking at the following technologies: Caching Application Block 4.1 WCF TCP Service using HttpRuntime Caching Memcached Win32 and Client Microsoft AppFabric Caching Beta 2 Our test server is a Windows Server 2003 with IIS6, but our production server is Windows Server 2008, so any of the above options would work (except for AppFabric Caching on our test server). Does anyone have any experience with any of these? This caching solution will not be used to store a lot of data, but it will need to be fetched from frequently and fast. Thanks in advance.

• Android: scaling a button with a background image.

  I'm probably just being daft but my Google searches are not working out well. I have a bunch of buttons i add in code that all have dynamic text. I've set a background image for each of these buttons since the default greybutton doesn't work well for my application. This works perfectly and when the text size (or content) changes, the button automatically grows to accommodate the expanded text. What doesn't work is that I'd like the button to scale proportionally - i.e. if the background image is round, i'd like it to stay round rather than oval as the button gets bigger. With an imagebutton, there is a property "Adjust view bounds" that does exactly this but I cant put text on an imagebutton. Is there something equivalent for a regular button? or am I going about this wrong? i also tried setting the width of the button in code, but I can't seem to determine the new height (button.getHeight() returns 0)

• RAD Visual Web Application Creator/ Builder/ Designer for PHP

  Hi all, I want to see if any of you know a (free and open source will be ideal) tool/ app that can help build a php web application very quickly without investing too much time on writing codes, preferring drag and drop/ point and click work-flow designer for logic design (see Agile from Outsystems below). Plus, visual designer for the business logic is great since it can help a developer visualize the logic better. There are a lot of GUI builders, form builders out there, but I am looking for one app for the entire web application development process. My goal is to find an application that a team of developers can use together and use the build-in code of the app as much as possible. E.g. the app will provide a modular just for handle user login or a shopping cart; a developer just need to drag and drop the modular to the logic designer and the code will be generated. This way the functionality will be in a module and code will always be standard across developers. So if a new developer get on-board, he will just need to use the system and get up and running quickly. To explain this better: there is a lot php frameworks, e.g. cakephp, CodeIgniter, etc which I can use to help coding, but still I need to create (code) the GUI, writing quite a bit of codes. I am looking for a tool/ app that is a little more high level than those frameworks. Here is 2 examples apps I found during my google search which they have visual logic designer and gui builder in one single app. Also a single click deployment (but I need it to be php apps or at least I can deploy the (php) code to a LAMP/ WAMP server): Wavemaker: for JAVA Agile from Outsystems: for JAVA or .net (This one is really good, with work-flow drag and drop logic designer!) Talend: it is just an ETL tool, but the concept is what I want to bring up. Drag and drop, point and click logic design. Custom code can be added if it is needed, but the drag and drop process already finished the structure and most of the coding of the web app one needs to build. I want to list Adobe Flex, but it is more like a GUI designer + IDE, not exactly what I want to describe here. The drag and drop/ work-flow logic designer is a key for the app. I could go for the CMS route by learning how to extend them, but it is not that flexible for me and is a long learning curve. Anybody came across this type of app before? Or any idea of how can I find those apps? I googled them for long time, I don't see any of them for php and just few (just 2) for Java. • "Cleanly" Deploying an ASP.NET Application with LINQ to SQL Server

  In my development environment, my SQL Server is PHILIP\SQLEXPRESS. In testing, it's ANNIE, and the live environment will have a third name yet to be determined. I would have assumed that updating the following statement in web.config would have been enough: <add name="MyConnectionString"providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" connectionString="Data Source=PHILIP\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=MyDtabase;Integrated Security=True" /> When using SqlConnection, SqlCommand, SqlDataReader and friends, that's all it took. Using LINQ, it doesn't seem to work that nicely. I see the servername repeated in my .dbml file as well as in Settings.settings. After changing it in all of those places, I get it to work. However if I'm doing a few deployments per day during testing, I want to avoid this regimen. My question is: is there a programmatic solution for LINQ to SQL that will allow me to specify the connection string once, preferably in web.config, and get everybody else to refer to it?

(The JS file is on another domain.) I'm wondering if it's valid to do the following for convenience sake: <script type="text/javascript" src="//cdn.example.com/js_file.js"></script> I'm wondering if it's valid to remove the http: or https: ? It seems to work everywhere I have tested, but are there any cases where it doesn't work?

• Assembly Programming on Mac

  I am on a Mac with Snow Leopard (10.6.3). I hear that the assembly language I work with has to be valid with the chipset that you use. I am completely new to this I have a basic background in C and Objective-C programming and an almost strong background in PHP. I have always wanted to see what assembly is all about. The tutorial I'll be looking at is by VTC [link]. What I want to know is: are the tutorials that I'm about to do compatible with the assembly version on the Mac that I have? Sorry I am completely new to this language although I do recall studying some of it way, way back in the day. I do have xcode and what I'm wondering is what kind of document would I open in xcode to work with assembly and does the Mac have a built in hex editor (when it comes time to needing it)? thanks

  How does ML perform the type inference in the following function definition: let add a b = a + b Is it like C++ templates where no type-checking is performed until the point of template instantiation after which if the type supports the necessary operations, the function works or else a compilation error is thrown ? i.e. for example, the following function template template <typename NumType> NumType add(NumType a, NumType b) { return a + b; } will work for add<int>(23, 11); but won't work for add<ostream>(cout, fout); Is what I am guessing is correct or ML type inference works differently? • Starting Frame-By-Frame Animation

  Hi, I have a basic question about starting a frame-by-frame animation. When I call the AnimationDrawable.start() method from my code directly, it doesn't seem to work. public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { ... mAnimation.start(); ... } But if I put this line inside the onClick() callback method of a button, pressing the buton starts the animation. Why doesn't this line work in the code? Thanks!

• Rails: Accessing previous loop in Populator (rake db:populate)

  I am populating my Rails database using populator, and I have a case where I would like to build a series of records where fields start_date and end_date follow seamlessly from each other (from today back into the past). Here is a sample of what I'm doing: Chain.populate 1 do |ch| ch.date_end = DateTime.now ch.date_start = DateTime.civil(DateTime.now.year-rand(40)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Chain.populate 0..10 do |chs| chs.date_end = Chain.find(:last).date_start chs.date_start = DateTime.civil(chs.date_end.year-rand(10)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Problem? undefined method 'date_start' for nil:NilClass. I assume the problem is the first Chain record hasn't been saved, so I added: Chain.save # in between the two loops This didn't work either. How can I make this work? Thank you!

I want to automatically dial the system default "work" connection, which is the VPN one, which dial the modem one first. The user has another application who does automatically make the system dial the default connection. But I can't undertand how to do it from my Compact .NET application. • What is the best answer to give for, "Why do you want to change from your present organization?"

  At present I am into a very good organization. I am planning to shift because I am not happy with the work that I am getting now. I want to work under a different Manager, but my Manager and team is more dependent on me. I tried so many times, but couldn't change my team. So, I started planning to switch my company. Everyone is asking the same question, "Why do you want to change?". Should I say the truth? I told this in 2 places, but did not see a good response from them.   I'd like a variant of show (let's call it label) that acts just like show, except that it doesn't wrap Strings in " " or Chars in ' '. • OpenGL ES functions not accepting values originating outside of it's view

  I've been unable to figure this out on my own. I currently have an Open GLES setup where a view controller both updates a game world (with a dt), fetches the data I need to render, passes it off to an EAGLView through two structures (built of Apple's ES1Renderer), and draws the scene. Whenever a value originates outside of the Open GL view, it can't be used to either translate objects using glTranslatef, or set up the scene using glOrthof. If I assign a new value to something, it will work - even if it is the exact same number. The two structures I have each contain a variety of floating-point numbers and booleans, along with two arrays. I can log the values from within my renderer - they make it there - but I receive errors from OpenGL if I try to do anything with them. No crashes result, but the glOrthof call doesn't work if I don't set the camera values to anything different. Code used to set up scene: [EAGLContext setCurrentContext:context]; glBindFramebufferOES(GL_FRAMEBUFFER_OES, viewFramebuffer); //clears the color buffer bit glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT); glMatrixMode(GL_PROJECTION); //sets up the scene w/ ortho projection glViewport(0, 0, 320, 480); glLoadIdentity(); glOrthof(320, 0, dynamicData.cam_x2, dynamicData.cam_x1, 1.0, -1.0); glClearColor(1.0, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0); /*error checking code here*/ "dynamicData" (which is replaced every frame) is created within my game simulation. From within my controller, I call a method (w/in my simulation) that returns it, and pass the result on to the EAGLView, which passes it on to the renderer. I haven't been able to come up with a better solution for this - suggestions in this regard would be greatly appreciated as well. • Virtual directory problem for cruise control.net

  Hi All, I have downloaded cruisecontrol.net setup and have installed it in "C:\Program Files\CruiseControl.NET". It contains a folder called "webdashboard" which has aspx page and some other stuff as well. I want to configure this in my IIS so that I can access it , I tried but it doesn't work , every time I get error that page you requested is not found. I created web site, created virtual directory but none is working. I have not put anything in inetpub/wwwroot. Can anyone please guide me how can I configure this to work.
