• Load Excel data into Linux / wxWidgets C++ application?

  I'm using wxWidgets to write cross-plafrom applications. In one of applications I need to be able to load data from Microsoft Excel (.xls) files, but I need this to work on Linux as well, so I assume I cannot use OLE or whatever technology is available on Windows. I see that there are many open source programs that can read excel files (OpenOffice, KOffice, etc.), so I wonder if there is some library that I could use? Excel files it needs to support are very simple, straight tabular data. I don't need to extract any formatting except column/row position and the data itself.

  Hello Can I distinguish signal, between delivered directly to a process and delivered via debugger. Case 1: $ ./process1 process1 (not ptraced) set up handler alarm(5); .... signal is handled and I can parse handler parameters Case 2: $ debugger1 ./process1 process1 (is ptraced by debugger1) set up handler alarm(5); ... signal is catched by debugger1. It resumes process1 with PTRACE_CONT, signal_number is 4th parameter of PTRACE_CONT. signal is redelivered to process1 it is handled. So, how can I detect in signal handler, was it redelivered by debugger or send by system? OS is Linux, kernel is 2.6.30. Programs are written in plain C.

• Tomcat 6 configuration example for Ubuntu Linux?

  I'm very new to Tomcat and I'm having some issues figuring out how to set it up. I set it up on Ubuntu Linux and started reading and trying to follow the information given on the apache website here: http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/deployer-howto.html Apparently I'm missing something. I have a WAR named MyWebapp.war and it's in a directory /home/mywebapp. In /etc/tomcat6/Catalina/localhost/MyWebapp.xml, I have the following line: <Context path="/MyWebapp" docBase="/home/mywebapp" antiResourceLocking="false" /> Everything else is the default configuration that came with tomcat6 via the Ubuntu package. When I restart Tomcat and try to go to http://localhost:8080/MyWebapp, I get a 404. The WAR file isn't unpacked and nothing seems to be working. I'm going to be deploying two Grails applications on this server with Tomcat. Is there a more straight forward way to do this?

  Hi everyone, I want to make a C# app in Mono as it's the only programming language I'm mostly comfortable with. Anyway, ATI Drivers on Linux do not have a Fan control feature and therefore the cards to tend to heat up. For me I prefer to have a cooler card. What I want to do is run a command such as: aticonfig --pplib-cmd 'set fanspeed 0 70' In a application but I the thing is..How can I run that code so it works, I am currently running Ubuntu 10.04, and it does work in the terminal, but I want to implement it into an application. • C++ obtaining milliseconds time on Linux -- clock() doesn't seem to work properly

  On Windows, clock() returns the time in milliseconds, but on this Linux box I'm working on, it rounds it to the nearest 1000 so the precision is only to the "second" level and not to the milliseconds level. I found a solution with Qt using the QTime class, instantiating an object and calling start() on it then calling elapsed() to get the number of milliseconds elapsed. I got kind of lucky because I'm working with Qt to begin with, but I'd like a solution that doesn't rely on third party libraries, Is there no standard way to do this? UPDATE Please don't recommend Boost .. If Boost and Qt can do it, surely it's not magic, there must be something standard that they're using!

• Java: Looking for hack to deal with Windows file paths in Linux

  Say you have a large legacy ColdFusion on top of Java on Windows application. File access is done both via java.io.File and by CFFILE (which in turn also uses java.io.File), but not centralised in any way into a single file access library. Further, say you have file paths both hard-coded in the code, and also in a database. In other words, assume the file paths themselves cannot change. They could be either local or remote Windows file paths: c:\temp\file.txt \\server\share\file.txt Is there a way to run this application on Linux with minimal code changes? I'm looking for creative solutions that do not involve touching the legacy code. Some ideas: Run it on WINE. This actually works, because WINE will translate the local paths, and has a samba client for the remote paths. Is there a way to override java.io.File to perform the file path translation with custom code? In this case, I would translate the remote paths to a mount point.

My project is to deploy Hadoop without using Cygwin. I have already seen the article from Hayes Davis where he explained how to install Hadoop without Cygwin, but he said that there are some bugs. I am supposed to be able to run a script from this attached volume using the following steps as explained in the tutorial: Log in to your virtual machine. mkdir /space mount /dev/sdf1 /space cd /space ./setup-script The problem is that, when I try: ./setup-script I got the following message: -bash: ./setup-script: No such file or directory What is the problem ?   I have a MySQL database that contains millions of rows per table and there are 9 tables in total. The database is fully populated, and all I am doing is reads i.e., there are no INSERTs or UPDATEs. Data is stored in MyISAM tables. Given this scenario, which linux file system would work best? Currently, I have xfs. But, I read somewhere that xfs has horrible read performance. Is that true? Should I shift the database to an ext3 file system? Thanks

  I have a gps time in the database,and when I do some query,I have to use the java.util.Date,however I found that I do not know how to change the gps time to java.util.Date. Here is a example: The readable time === The GPS time 2010-11-15 13:10:00 === 634254192000000000 2010-11-15 14:10:00 === 634254228000000000 The period of the two date is "36000000000",,obviously it stands for one hour,so I think the unit of the gps time in the db must be nanosecond. 1 hour =3600 seconds= 3600*1000 milliseconds == 3600*1000*10000 nanoseconds Then I try to convert the gps time: Take the " 634254228000000000" as example,it stands for("2010-11-15 14:10:00"); SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ssZ"); Date d = new Date(63425422800000L); System.out.println(sdf.format(d)); The result is 3979-11-15 13:00:00+0000. Of course it is wrong,then I try to calculate : 63425422800000/3600000/24/365=2011.xxx So it seems that the gps time here is not calcuated from Epoch(1970-01-01 00:00:00+0000). It maybe something like (0001-01-01 00:00:00+0000). Then I try to use the following method: Date date_0=sdf.parse("0001-01-01 00:00:00+0000"); Date d = new Date(63425422800000L); System.out.println(sdf.format(d.getTime() + date_0.getTime())); The result is: 2010-11-13 13:00:00+0000. :( Now I am confusing about how to calculate this gps time. Any suggestion?

Not all customers will be affected, but those, who are affected, may observe higher than normal CPU consumption on their Linux environments where JVM's are utilized.  In Oracle Enterprise Manager ( EM ) , this problem can manifest itself as high CPU consumption with the EM Agent process (which runs on a JVM in EM 12c, for instance).  It is possible that the OMS is also affected. We would advise customers to review the description of this problem in MOS Note 1472651.1 and take action if they observe that their environment is affected. • SVN Error 403 Forbidden

  I can't figure this out. I try to import a new project into a svn repository from Netbeans and get 403 Forbidden. I just setup svn on my serverbox today. I can get to it through a browser just fine, though its empty as I haven't imported my project yet.   How to determine if I can write the given number of bytes to a filehandle (socket actually)? (Alternatively, how to "unread" the data I had read from other filehandle?) I want something like: n = how_much_can_I_write(w_handle); n = read(r_handle, buf, n); assert(n==write(w_handle, buf, n)); Both filehandles (r_handle and w_handle) have received ready status from epoll_wait. I want all data from r_handle to be copied to w_handle without using a "write debt" buffer.

• Pylibmc requiring libmemcached >= 0.32

  On Ubuntu, I installed libmemcached-dev using the following command: apt-get install libmemcached-dev Unfortunately it installs libmemcached version 0.31, and pylibmc requires that I compile with v 0.32+ to run, otherwise I get an import error. I've tried removing libmemcached-dev with apt-get --purge remove, then installing libmemcached v 0.38, then re-compiling pylibmc, but it still gives me the requires libmemcached v 0.32+ error.

  When debugging a link error (undefined reference to _dso_handle) using the Android x86 toolchain, I noticed it's statically linking crtbegin_dynamic.o. What is the purpose of this file? There is another similar crtbegin.o in the toolchain install directory that contains the missing symbol (_dso_handle). What is the difference between crtbegin.o and crtbegin_dynamic.o?

Basicly i upload the files to the needed directory and go to www.mywebsite.com/install/index.php it then comes up with a screen saying Install etc, and when i click next it returns a 404 error saying page cannot be found, anyone had this ? or know how to sort it or what im doing wrong?

• NFS to NFS mount

  I have a machine that I need to bridge NFS files to. Can I mount an NFS directory on machine2 from machine1 and then mount the mounted NFS directory on machine2 on machine3 via NFS? Do you see any problems with that? I am basically bridging some subnet domains this way, in a certain fashion. My development machine is on a different and separate (unbridged) than where I would like to use the files, and I would like this machine1(dev machine) - machine2(passthrough machine) - machine3(test machine) connection. And no there is no way to move the test machine as it's a chassis :) and it's two buildings away.
