• Parsing a website

  I want to make a program that takes as user input a website address. The program then goes to that website, downloads it, and then parses the information inside. It outputs a new html file using the information from the website. Specifically, what this program will do is take certain links from the website, and put the links in the output html file, and it will discard everything else. Right now I just want to make it for websites that don't require a login, but later on I want to make it work for sites where you have to login, so it will have to be able to deal with cookies. I'll also want to later on have the program be able to explore certain links and download information from those other sites. What are the best programming languages or tools to do this?

  Hi all I have a website running on a IIS 7.5 server with ASP.NET 4.0 on a shared host, but in full trust. The site is a basic "file browser" that allows the visitors to login and have a list of files available to them displayed, and, obviously, download the files. The static files (mostly pdf files) are located in a sub folder on the site called data, e.g. http://example.com/data/... The site uses ASP.NET form authentication. My question is: How do I get the ASP.NET engine to handle the requests for the static files in the data folder, so that request for files are authenticated by ASP.NET, and users are not able to deep link to a file and grab files they are not allowed to have?   As a software developer one sometimes gets feature requests that seem to be in some kind of morally grey area. Sometimes one can deflect them, or implement them in a way that feels less 'evil' - sometimes - on reflection - while the feature request 'feels' wrong theres no identifiable part of it that actually causes harm. Sometimes one feels a feature is totally innocent but various anti virus products start tagging one as malware. For example - I personally consider EULAs to (a) hopefully be unenforceable and (b) a means by which rights are REMOVED from consumers. However Anti Virus scanners frequently mark as malware any kind of download agent that does not display a EULA. Which to me is the result of a curious kind of double think. What I want to know is - are there any online (or offline) resources that cover evil software development practices? How can I know if a software practice that I consider dodgy is in fact evil enough to consider fighting?

  I created a ActiveX control using ATL, already package it with signature. I want to use it on the webpage, but at the install window the name is MyActiveX.cab with no link. the MyActiveX.cab name can be changed by modifying the html page's tag codebase attribute. but the name is still format like "XXX.cab" with no hyperlink. • ideas for android application update

  Hi, I'm planning to use my website to provide updates for my android application whenever the user decides to perform an update( in case there is one available) . I'm thinking to use http requests for the communication between the user and the server, so whenever there is a new update the server sents back to the user the link to download the apk of the update through the android browser. So far I think it should work !?!. But once I have the apk of the new update on the card ,and the installed old version of the application how do I actually perform the update ?

• Trouble using SFML with GCC and OS X

  I've been trying to get SFML working for a while now and I've been trying to get it working using GCC. I'm on OS X by the way. I followed the standard Linux instructions and using the Linux 64-bit download however when it comes to compiling... g++ -o testing main.cpp -lsfml-system This happens: main.cpp: In function ‘int main()’: main.cpp:7: error: ‘class sf::Clock’ has no member named ‘GetElapsedTime’ main.cpp:9: error: ‘class sf::Clock’ has no member named ‘GetElapsedTime’ main.cpp:10: error: ‘Sleep’ is not a member of ‘sf’ So I thought it could be due to not using includes, so I changed my gcc compile command to: g++ -o testing main.cpp -I ~/SFML-1.6/include/ -lsfml-system and now I'm getting this error: ld: warning: ignoring file /usr/local/lib/libsfml-system.so, file was built for unsupported file format which is not the architecture being linked (x86_64) Undefined symbols for architecture x86_64: "sf::Clock::Clock()", referenced from: _main in ccZEiB7b.o "sf::Clock::GetElapsedTime() const", referenced from: _main in ccZEiB7b.o "sf::Sleep(float)", referenced from: _main in ccZEiB7b.o ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture x86_64 collect2: ld returned 1 exit status** And I have no idea what to do to fix it.

EventWaitHandle handle = new EventWaitHandle(false, EventResetMode.AutoReset); My producer thread code look like below produceSomething(); handle.Set(); In the consumer thread, I have to download data for every one minute or when prodcuer is called Set method try { while(true) { handle.WaitOne(60000, false); doSomething(); - downloads data from internet. takes lot of time to complete it. } } catch(ThreadAbortException) { cleanup(); } My question is if consumer thread is running doSomething funtion and producer calls set function, what would be state of Auto reset event object? My requreiment is as soon as producer calls set method i have to downlaod fresh data from intenet . If doSomething function is running, when Producer calls set method, i have to interrupt it and call again. Any help is appreciated. Regards Raju

  I have got a problem with reusing the same MSBuild targets for different build types on TFS. Let me describe the situation. I have got two build types (CI - for continuous integration and RC - for release candidate). So I have got two build types defined in the TFS. Their *.proj files are under: - $/Repository/TeamBuildTypes/CI - $/Repository/TeamBuildTypes/RC Also, I have got some common targets, like: ChnageVersion.taget, Deploy.tagert, etc. and I import them in the main *.proj file. Unfortunaltely, I have to keep two copies of them, one in each build type. I've been struggling to have only one copy of the common targets somewhere, but I give up. I can't do it, because when the build starts on a build agent, the build files are downloaded from: $/Repository/TeamBuildTypes/CI only. How can I make the build agent / TFS / whatever to download also $/Repository/TeamBuildTypes/Common for example?

  Hi fellows, I want to create a professional website for my company. I'm not a designer. I know some html/css, but I don't have much experience making up advanced pages and layouts. I'd expect public area, with various articles, and a "customer zone", accessible via username and password, where clients will be able to track their orders and download files. It needs to look very modern. I don't want to use website templates, because they're too simple. I know some Wordpress, but that's mostly for blogs, and anyways you need to find a right theme besides the CMS itself... Is there any alternative solution, some kind of framework for building such portals? Preferably a system that doesn't require designer skills. Thanks!

• Using jsAnim.js

  I've been trying to set up a basic test animation using jsanim.js and using their example site to set up my html, css and js. However, I just can't figure it out (not a developer...designer!) and there isn't just a simple html, css, js file to download showing how to say animate a DIV left to right. The examples of how the library works are clear but I'm lacking something in the set up and looking at their source on the site is nuts...too much going on in there. • Does anyone have a backup strategy for SQL Azure databases?

  I'm using SQL Azure on a project and it works great. The problem is that the usual backup features do not exist. I have exported the database a couple of times using SQLAzureMW ( http://sqlazuremw.codeplex.com/ ) but this tool is now choking trying to download the database data with bcp. In any case, it's not as nice a solution as SQL Server backups. Is anyone aware of a commercial or open source tool, or other technique, for making reliable backups of SQL Azure databases? This is really a showstopper.

  We upgraded from mockito-all-1.8.5.jar to mockito-all-1.9.0.jar and now see null pointers when using annotations for the classes being mocked.   I have a ASP .NET load balanced application (webservice and website). It runs on SQL server. I need to be able to provide large files for download. However, because of the load balancing situation, the files are stored in the SQL database as opposed to the file system. BITS seems to be the best approach. I have full control of the client. However, i don't know how to configure BITS to read the file from the database. I know how to write the C# code for that, but i don't know how to get BITS to hook into it as opposed to reading the file from the file system. Any ideas?

• Wanting to edit a google maps info bubble

  I have to edit an info bubble on a website to help someone out. The site is already online and i dont have the ftp login details so i cant download the files and use them locally to test it. So im having some issues with inserting a logo on the top of the bubble, like a header. Im also having problems with the code needed to add 'to here' and 'from here' directions at the bottom of the bubble. Everything else is plain text in the middle of these 2 objects, so thats easy.   I'm working on an API wrapper for Snapchat using Python and Bottle, but in order to return the file (retrieved by the Python script) I have to save the bytes (returned by Snapchat) to a .jpg file. I'm not quite sure how I will do this and still be able to access the file so that it can be returned. • What turns away users/prospective users?

  In your experience, what kinds of things have turned away users and prospective users from using your programs? Also, what kinds of things turn you away from using someone else's programs? For example, one thing that really bugs me is when someone provides free software, but requires you to enter your name and email address before you download it. Why do they need my name and email address? I just want to use the program! I understand that the developer(s) may want to get a feel for how many users they have, etc, but the extra work I have to do really makes me think twice about downloading their software, even if it does really great things.

  I have an iOS enterprise app that we are wirelessly distributing to our devices. Currently the app polls our server once a day to see if there is an app update. If there is, we try to install it by having the app call the following code: NSURL *installUrl = [NSURL URLWithString:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"itms-services://?action=download-manifest&url=%@", plistUrl]]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:installUrl]; This causes the app to prompt the user with an alert dialog to install the update. If they click install, the app closes and the update is downloaded and installed. I am wondering if there is anything for enterprise apps for iOS 7 similar to the AppStore's automatic updates? I would like to be able to update our app without the user having to press an update button and be able to update at a time when the user won't have to wait for it to install.

  My goal is to debug my programm, that uses java mail library(including javax.mail and com.sun.mail). So i decided first to download java mail sources and compile it with option -g. I go to the java mail sources and binaries , downloaded them. Somehow sources store in jar but not just zip. Ok. Then i decided to decompile jar into zip with JAD plugin in eclipse. After decompiling i receive empty directory. I downloaded jad.exe and run it , but it throwed a message : JavaClassFileParseException: Not a class file. It says it decompiles only classes, but what about jars? Is it so hard just store sources in fu** zip ???!!!!

• Bitmap in ImageView is cropped off the screen

  I'm working on an Android application that needs to download an image and display it inside an image view. The Bitmap is passed to the main java file and added to the image view like this: comic = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.comic); comic.setImageBitmap(c.getImageBitmap()); This works, except that the left side of the image disappears off the screen. The ImageView is in a ScrollView and the scroll view maintains the correct size. This means that there is black space to the right in the ScrollView and the image is cut off to the left. The XML for the ImageView is this: <ScrollView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" Any idea why my image is being cut off? Thanks!

• Are there any layout comparison / vssetting sharing places?

  Well, I reinstalled Visual Studio 2008 and did not have a backup of my vssetting file. I did not think it was that important as I had barely customised it, however it just doesn't feel right! The general windows feel correct but When I switch between views (source code, Windows forms, web editor), all the toolbars get muddled up. In the past few years, I have seen so many "post your desktop" type items and I could swear there there would be some "post your IDE", but after looking on Google and several other programming sites, I just can't find one! I don't want this turning in to a post your IDE unless others want to, but can anyone point me to a site where they have done this, or even better - are there any vssetting sharing places where you can download ones made by others?
