• Asp.net override Membership settings at runtime (asp.net mvc)

  I had an application that hooked onto 1 single database. The app now needs to hook into multiple databases. What we want to do is, using the same application/domain/hostname/virtual dir give the user the option on the login screen to select the "App/Database" they want to connect into. Each database has the App tables/data/procs/etc as well as the aspnet membership/roles stuff. When the user enters the username/password and selects (select list) the application, I want to validate the user against the selected applications database. Presently the database connection string for membership services is saved in the web.config. Is there any way I can override this at login time? Also, I need the "remember me" function to work smoothly as well. How does this work when the user comes back to the app in 5 hours... This process should be able to identify the user and application and log in appropriately.

• tcp checksum and tcp offloading

  i am using raw sockets to create my own socket. i need to set the tcp_checksum. i have tried a lot of references but all are not working (i am using wireshark for testing). could you help me please. by the way, i read somewhere that if you set tcp_checksum=0. then the hardware will calculate the checksum automatically for you. is this true? i tried it, but in wireshark the tcp_checksum gives a value of 0X000 and says tcp offload. i also read about tcp offloading, and didn't understand, is it only that wireshark is cannot check an offloaded tcp checksum, but there is a correct one??

• glTexImage2D behavior on iPhone and other OpenGL ES platforms

  Hello, I am doing some work which involves drawing video frames in real time in OpenGL ES. Right now I am using glTexImage2D to transfer the data, in the absence of Pixel Buffer Objects and the like. I suspect that the use of glTexImage2D with one or two frames of look-ahead, that is, using several textures so that the glTexImage2D call can be initiated a frame or two ahead, will allow for sufficient parallelism to play in real time if the system is capable of it at all. Is my assumption true that the driver will handle the actual data transfer to the hardware asynchronously after glTexImage2D returns, assuming I don't try to use the texture or call glFinish/glFlush? Is there a better way to do this with OpenGL ES? Thank you very much, Sean

  Hi, I have a requirement to work on a VS2003 web project. I have VS2008,vs2010,vs2003 installed in my system Other System details are Windows Xp professional version 2 service pack 3. IIS 5.1 When i am trying to create a VS 2003 web project giving the localhost as path i am getting the following error. "visual studio noted that specified web server is not running under asp .net 1.1 version.You will be unable to run asp .net web applications or services". I have used aspnet_regiis commands as well as a tool(ASPNETVersionSwitcher.exe ) to swith versions and in iis also default web site asp.net version chosen as asp .net 1.14322. Still i am getting the error. same error i get ,if i point a virtual directory in the existing 1.1 .net web application and trying to open it. • Installing fonts

  I have "white nights" trying to install Hebrew/Arabic fonts on my level 7 (API 2.1) aka Nexus emulator. I can't understand why Google guys will want to waist my skills do something helpful for the community using Hebrew/Arabic fonts. After rw mount/remount I can do it for level 3 devices, but for Nexus - nada! Why? What can be done? Real devices guys already broke this peace of hardware, but I am sitting and looking wide eyes open like a sheep. Please make me happy and give the chance to install the fonts. That's what must be done for some of us: We need system image saved on exit for tomorrow to continue the work Open emulator to work in peace cp command included with the SDK. Thanks for any help

• linear interpolation on 8bit microcontroller

  I need to do a linear interpolation over time between two values on an 8 bit PIC microcontroller (Specifically 16F627A but that shouldn't matter) using PIC assembly language. Although I'm looking for an algorithm here as much as actual code. I need to take an 8 bit starting value, an 8 bit ending value and a position between the two (Currently represented as an 8 bit number 0-255 where 0 means the output should be the starting value and 255 means it should be the final value but that can change if there is a better way to represent this) and calculate the interpolated value. Now PIC doesn't have a divide instruction so I could code up a general purpose divide routine and effectivly calculate (B-A)/(x/255)+A at each step but I feel there is probably a much better way to do this on a microcontroller than the way I'd do it on a PC in c++ Has anyone got any suggestions for implementing this efficiently on this hardware?

  Hi, I have an application which is using 24 bit fixed point calculation.I am porting it to a hardware which does support floating point, so for speed optimization I need to convert all fixed point based calculation to floating point based calculation. For this code snippet, It is calculating mantissa for(i=0;i<8207;i++) { // Do n^8/7 calculation and store // it in mantissa and exponent, scaled to // fixed point precision. } So since this calculation, does convert an integer to mantissa and exponent scaled to fixed point precision(23 bit). When I tried converting it to float, by dividing the mantissa part by precision bits and subtracting the exponent part by precision bit, it really does' t work. Please help suggesting a better way of doing it.

• External USB attached drive works in Windows XP but not in Windows 7. How to fix?

  Earlier this week I purchased this "N52300 EZQuest Pro" external hard drive enclosure from here. I can connect the enclosure using USB 2.0 and access the files in both NTFS partitions on the MBR partitioned drive when I use either Windows XP (SP3) or Mac OS X 10.6. So it works as expected in XP & Snow Leopard. However, the enclosure does not work in Windows 7 (Home Premium) either 64-bit or 32-bit or in Ubuntu 10.04 (kernel 2.6.32-23-generic). I'm thinking this must be a Windows 7 driver problem because the enclosure works in XP & Snow Leopard. I do know that no special drivers are required to use this enclosure. It is supported using the USB mass storage drivers included with XP and OS X. It should also work fine using the mass storage support in Windows 7, no? FWIW, I have also tried using 32-bit Windows 7 on both my desktop, a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 with a Pentium Dual-Core E6500 @ 2.93GHz, and on my early 2008 MacBook. I see the same failure in both cases that I see with 64-bit Windows 7. So it doesn't appear to be specific to one hardware platform. I'm hoping someone out there can help me either get the enclosure to work in Windows 7 or convince me that the enclosure hardware is bad and should be RMAed. At the moment though an RMA seems pointless since this appears to be a (Windows 7) device driver problem. I have tried to track down any updates to the mass storage drivers included with Windows 7 but have so far come up empty. Heck, I can't even figure out how to place a bug report with Microsoft since apparently the grace period for Windows 7 email support is only a few months. I came across a link to some USB troubleshooting steps in another question. I haven't had a chance to look over the suggestions on that site or try them yet. Maybe tomorrow if I have time ... ;-) I'll finish up with some more details about the problem. When I connect the enclosure using USB to Windows 7 at first it appears everything worked. Windows detects the drive and installs a driver for it. Looking in Device Manager there is an entry under the Hard Drives section with the title, Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device. When you open Windows Disk Management the first time after the enclosure has been attached the drive appears as "Not initialize" and I'm prompted to initialize it. This is bogus. After all, the drive worked fine in XP so I know it has already been initialized, partitioned, and formatted. So of course I never try to initialize it "again". (It's a 1 GB drive and I don't want to lose the data on it). Except for this first time, the drive never shows up in Disk Management again unless I uninstall the Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device entry under Hard Drives, unplug, and then replug the enclosure. If I do that then the process in the previous paragraph repeats. In Ubuntu the enclosure never shows up at all at the file system level. Below are an excerpt from kern.log and an excerpt from the result of lsusb -v after attaching the enclosure. It appears that Ubuntu at first recongnizes the enclosure and is attempting to attach it, but encounters errors which prevent it from doing so. Today I recieved a 1394b 9 pin to 1394a 6 pin cable which allowed me to connect the "EZQuest Pro" via Firewire. Everything works. When I use Firewire I can connect whether I'm using Windows 7 or Ubuntu 10.04. I even tried booting my Gigabyte desktop as an OS X 10.6.3 Hackintosh and it worked there as well. (Though if I recall correctly, it also worked when using USB 2.0 and booting OS X on the desktop. Certainly it works with USB 2.0 and my MacBook.) I believe the firmware on the device is at the latest level available, v1.07. I base this on the excerpt below from the OS X System Profiler which shows Firmware Revision: 0x107. Bottom line: It's nice that the enclosure is actually usable when I connect with Firewire. But I am still searching for an answer as to why it does not work correctly when using USB 2.0 in Windows 7 (and Ubuntu ... but really Windows 7 is my biggest concern). • Pear Crypt/HMAC.php failed to open stream

  Hello, I am on a MediaTemple Dedicated Virtual server and have enabled Pear using the instructions found at: http://kb.mediatemple.net/questions/514/Enabling+PEAR+by+setting+your+open_basedir+and+include_path Here's the problem... In my PHP script, I have this: require_once 'Crypt/HMAC.php'; When I execute the script, I get this message: S3::require_once(Crypt/HMAC.php) [s3.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory It's a script for integrating with Amazon S3. When we were on the Grid service it worked fine. I've only had problems since moving to a DV server. I installed the HMAC pear module using this command: pear install Crypt_HMAC Then re-started the server. Still no luck. Any ideas? Thanks a bunch if you can help :)

• Keyboard Simulation not working with Keyboard hook for modifier keys

  I have a piece of software that is being used to simulate a certain device on a touchscreen, this device already runs an application that receives keyboard input from the device. My software (reffered to as simulator) displays a virtual keyboard and runs the application. Thus, the simulator sends keys with input simulator: http://inputsimulator.codeplex.com/ And the applciation listens to keys with the following keyboard hook: https://svn.cyberduck.io/tags/release-4-1/source/ch/cyberduck/core/GlobalKeyboardHook.cs My problem is, what some keys from the device's hardware actually do is to sent a key combination (ex: left-alt + 1) to the application and a weird scenario is occurring: The application listens to normal keyboard inputs The simulator sends keys to other applications (ie: visual studio responds to the keys sent when debugging) The simulator can send single keys to the application (I can type) The simulator CANNOT send key combinations to the application (alt+1 is received as just 1 in the application) This started happenning when we imported the application's dll into the same process from the simulator. Could there be any reason why I can't simulate key combinations for a hook in the same process? Is there any easy fix for this?

• JBOSS 7.1 started hanging after 6 months of deployment

  My application is been live from 6 months. The application is host on jboss 7.1 server. From last few days I am finding numerous problem of hanging of jboss server. Though I restart the jboss server again, it does not invoke. I need to restart the server machine itself. Can anyone please let me know what could be the cause of these problems and the workable resolutions or any suggestion ? Kindly dont degrade the question as I am facing a lot problems due to this hanging issue. Also for the information, the application is based on Java, GWT, Hibernate 3. • Adobe AIR: touch screen doesn't trigger mouse down event correctly

  i have designed a gaming kiosk app in as3 i am using it on a Sony vaio l pc (like hp's touchsmarts) in windows 7 the app doesn't need any multi-touch gestures (only single touch clicks and drags) so i am using mouse events everything is fine (including mouse click and move events) except that a single touch to the screen (with no move) doesn't fire a mouse down. it is fired only after a small move of the finger outside the app, on my desktop, i see that the small windows 7 cursor jumps immediately to where a finger is placed, meaning this issue isn't a hardware or a windows problem but rather how internally the flash app receives "translated" touch-to-mouse events from the os. for example, in a windows Solitaire game, a simple touch to the screen immediately highlights the touched card. in my app, a button will change to the down state only if i touch it and also move my finger slightly (click events - down and up - are triggered fine) shouldn't the MOUSE_DOWN event trigger exactly like how a TOUCH_BEGIN would in the new touchevent class? any ideas?

Its 1...* relationship and association is Primary Table - Id (identity auto generated) Foreign PId column int not null. I just dont get it....Im using SqlMetal for generation, i regenerated the schema, rebuild, same. This is causing while inserting row in DevExpress XtraGrid, but i dont think this should be issue, same control with same functionality but for different tables works ok. I use grid's event for append value in a property when the entity creating. I disabled this but same again. Recreated the association. No change, exception occurs. Any ideas?

  I have this in my user.rb: attr_accessor :old_password def validate unless password.nil? errors.add_to_base("Old password entered incorrect") unless self.valid_password? old_password end end I have old_password as a a virtual attribute that has to be validated as matching with the current before updating to a new password. My problem is that upon correct entering ( password == password confirmation and self.valid_password? old_password ) an error will yield and pass me back to the form. The strange part is that the data will actually be updated in the database, and it will not on wrong input; although it will yield the very same error ("Old password entered incorrect"). What on earth am I doing wrong?

• Silverlight WCF service acting strange

  Hi I have a silverlight project that calls into a wcf service. Everything works fine on my local machine. However when I deploy to a virtual machine, with the exact same query the wcf service returns, but the result is empty. I've tried debugging, but have not been able to get it to break in the wcf service. Any ideas what the problem could be, or how I could go about debugging it? Thanks I figured out what the problem is, but am not sure what the solution is. In my silverlight project the wcf service I am referencing is http://localhost/.../SilverlightApiService.svc I used fiddler on my vm to see the request that was made and instead of trying to contact the above service, it was trying to contact: http:///.../SilverlightApiService.svc So, for some reason my machine name is getting inserted in there instead of localhost. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

  Hi guys, I would like to have the result from my recording as a float in the range [0.0, 1.0], alternatively [-1.0, 1.0] because of a bit of math I want to do on it. When I set my recordingformat to be in float, like this: mRecordFormat.mFormatFlags = kLinearPCMFormatFlagIsFloat; I get: Error: AudioQueueNewInput failed ('fmt?') Does this mean the hardware doesn't support recording to floats? If not, how do I set it to record in floats? • SSRS 2005 - Usability analysis - Is SSRS a good option for this scenario?

  How practical is it to consider SSRS 2005 or SSRS 2008 as a reporting solution for a report that has to show reports with millions of records (records vary from 3 to 10 million)? Is there any threshold on the size of report in SSRS? How do I know that for a huge report, wheather SSRS will consume the whole memory and start paging the operations to disk or it will give a memory leak error? Even if I keep on increasing the memory how can I be sure that certain memory will be sufficient for such huge reports for the report server? All the above questions are haunting me because I have a dedicated report server with a decent hardware and OS configuration (8 processors, 8GB RAM, 64 bit OS and 64 bit SQL Server 2005). Still my report with around 2 million records is taking more than 6 minutes and going from one page to another takes 3 minutes!!! My datasource is on separate server and when I execute only the stored proc there, it returns the results in less than 2 minutes.

I know that I can get the list of tables using SELECT * FROM sqlite_master, I'd like to get something similar for the list of extensions. I also know that CREATE VIRTUAL TABLE v USING FTS3 (t TEXT) succeeds iff FTS3 is installed, but I'd like to get a query without side effects (not even creating a temporary table).

• Running JIRA on a VM

  Anyone have any success or failure running Jira on a VM? I am setting up a new source control and defect tracking server. My server room is near full and my services group suggested a VM. I saw that a bunch of people are running SVN on VM (including NCSA). The VM would also free me from hardware problems and give me high availability. Finally, it frees me from some red tape and it can be implemented faster. So, does anyone know of any reason why I shouldn't put Jira on a VM? Thanks

• iPad UI clipped in simulator

  My views created for iPad form factor look fine in Interface Builder. However, when I debug my app in iPhone Simulator 3.2 (with Hardware - Device set to iPad), I see the UI clipped and about half size. There is a 2x button at the bottom which lets me zoom in. But this just shows the same clipped UI in double size. This is really weird since I have created the XIB for iPad form factor and it is supposed to fit iPad completely. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? I am using iPhone SDK 3.2 downloaded on 4/30/2010. Thanks. -Raj

  From what I can tell, my app should be firing accelerometer events while Im using the iPad simulator in XCode, but its not. I have googled around and it somewhat seems that the accelerometer is not implemented in the simulator, is this correct? If so, why on earth would they have a "Hardware-Shake Gesture" menu option? • How do I guarantee cleanup code runs in Windows C++ (SIGINT, bad alloc, and closed window)

  I have a Windows C++ console program, and if I don't call ReleaseDriver() at the end of my program, some pieces of hardware enter a bad state and can't be used again without rebooting. I'd like to make sure ReleaseDriver() gets runs even if the program exits abnormally, for example if I hit Ctrl+C or close the console window. I can use signal() to create a signal handler for SIGINT. This works fine, although as the program ends it pops up an annoying error "An unhandled Win32 exception occurred...". I don't know how to handle the case of the console window being closed, and (more importantly) I don't know how to handle exceptions caused by bad memory accesses etc. Thanks for any help!

  We have deployed a java webapplication in Elastic Beanstalk with the minimum instance count 1 and max instance count 2 for Autoscaling. The custom AMI we are using is c1.medium with Sun JDK 6. The environment status changed to yellow and then red. After checking into the log file from the snapshot logs we found a exception - Caused by: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space. Assuming this could be one of the possible reason for the Environment failure. The settings that we have configured in the Environment Container option are Initial JVM Heap Size (MB) - 256M Maximum JVM Heap Size (MB) - 512m The maximum heap size the java virtual machine will ever consume, specified on the JVM launch command line using -Xmx. Maximum JVM Permanent Generation Size (MB) - 512m Should i increase the Heap size from 512m to more or is it fine.
