Using 'DataKeyNames' on an ASP.NET GridView control, causes exception on DataBind() call

Hi I have an ASP.NET 3.5 WebForms application. Using a GridView control and the DataKeyNames attribute <asp:GridView ID="data" runat="server" DataKeyNames="ID"> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="ID" />  If I take out the DataKeyNames="ID" it binds the data. I would really like to try and use DataKeyNames so I don't need to have the ID column in the columns list. Error: DataBinding: 'Nmspace.MyClass' does not contain a property with the name '"ID"'. Please help.

Shouldn’t GridView’s RowStyle-HorizontalAlign property overwrite CSS’s text-align property?

a) As far as I know, GridView’s RowStyle-HorizontalAlign property should overwrite CSS’s text-align property, and thus text inside GridView's cells should be located on the left side of the cells, but is instead moved to the right side. Why is that? b) Similarly, RowStyle-Font-Bold should overwrite CSS’s font-weight property and thus fonts shouldn’t be in bold. But again, CSS’s property overwrites RowStyle’s Font-Bold property. ASP.NET GridView - how to enable validation declaratively

It it possible to enable validation in an ASP.NET GridView purely declaratively? What I've tried: A GridView bound to an ObjectDataSource with SelectMethod and UpdateMethod defined The GridView contains some ReadOnly BoundField columns and a TemplateField whose EditTemplate contains a TextBox and a RegularExpressionValidator that only allows numeric input in the TextBox. The GridView also contains a CommandField with ShowEditButton=true and CausesValidation=true. If I click on Edit, enter an invalid value, then click on Save, there is a PostBack, and an exception is thrown in the server (Input string was not in a correct format). Get drop down selection from GridView on button press

I have an ASP.NET GridView that has four columns. The first three are typical BoundField elements bound to a DataTable. The forth is a TemplateField element that I create a DropDownList in on the OnRowCreated event for the GridView. What I'm attempting to do is walk down the data source for the GridView when a button is pressed. I really just need to get the values for columns one and four of each row. The first three columns have data as expected but the forth is displaying as empty. Is this because it wasn't a part of the DataTable originally? Is there any way to get the value for each drop down as I've described it, or will I need to rework this so each drop down list is a part of the DataTable?

Now I need to change the Partner Name field and in some condition make it clickable and alert() something. However, I lose the Sort ability. What's the correct solution in this case? Thanks.

I have tried to create a custom OnClick, OnCommand event for the LinkButton, but neither are fired. The OnRowCommand isn't fired either. I don't manually DataBind in the codebehind.

And in main page bind data using ids in session variable.Gridview - on deleting event i'm deleting that id from session and on deleted event updating both user control using a refresh method (Country1.Refresh()) and gridview panel. But updatepanel is not getting updated and even modalpopup is also not getting refreshed. What could be wrong here? Even though update and refresh events are fired and executed, why is page not getting updated?

Problems migrating databinding in VB.NET from Winforms to ASP.NET 2.0

And this was supposed to be so easy... I have existing business and data access layers that handle the retrieval and update of the data in question. These work great with the existing Winforms application (.Net V2.0) Now, in trying to write a new web-based UI, I'm running into all sorts of problems (last time I wrote asp.net code was in 1.1). Specifically, I can't data bind a text box to a business object. Oh, sure there's the ObjectDataSource but that wants to know how to do CRUD operations on the data. What I'm looking for is something that acts like the 'classic' binding objects so that, in my code, it's as simple as retrieving the object and doing a a refresh. The data component like FormView and DetailsView are so generic-looking that it's ridiculous. The existing application would have tabbed dialogs, text boxes grouped by panels, etc. On top of that, I have a directive to use master pages and unless one control causes it, I can't seem to get the content section to expand. I can't just put a text box 'below' the bottom of "Content1" and have it resize the content section - which gives me the same results as an earlier question I posted when the footer wasn't being 'pushed down' - relative position solved that but doesn't seem to solve it with placing small text boxes in the area. What I want is fairly simple. Something like: bindingobject.datasource = businessdataobject bindingobject.refresh ...and have the text boxes refresh with the new values. Likewise to have 'businessdataobject' properties updated as the user enters new data. I was able to do this with the GridView (grdRequests.DataSource = lstRequests) by making a list of asp:BoundField tags inside the collection of the GridView. Am I tilting at windmills here?

I want to prevent ASP.NET GridView from reacting to the enter button

I have an ASP.NET page with a gridview control on it with a CommandButton column with delete and select commands active. Pressing the enter key causes the first command button in the gridview to fire, which deletes a row. I don't want this to happen. Can I change the gridview control in a way that it does not react anymore to pressing the enter key? There is a textbox and button on the screen as well. They don't need to be responsive to hitting enter, but you must be able to fill in the textbox. Currently we popup a confirmation dialog to prevent accidental deletes, but we need something better than this. Inserting and Deleting Sub Rows in GridView

A user in the forums (http://forums.asp.net) is asking how to insert sub rows in GridView and also add delete functionality for the inserted sub rows. In this post I'm going to demonstrate how to this in ASP.NET WebForms. The basic idea to achieve this is we just need to insert row data in the DataSource that is being used in GridView since the GridView rows will be generated based on the DataSource data. The FillData() method is a method that returns a DataTable and basically creates a dummy data in the DataTable to be used as the GridView DataSource. You can replace the code in that method if you want to use actual data from database but for the purpose of this example I just fill the DataTable with a dummy data on it. The BindGridVew is a method that handles the actual binding of GridVew. The InsertRow() is a method that returns a DataRow. This method handles the insertion of the sub row. Now in the LinkButton OnClick event, we casted the sender to a LinkButton to determine the specific object that fires up the event and get the row values. We then reference the Data from ViewState to get the current data that is being used in the GridView. If the LinkButton text is "Insert" then we will insert new row to the DataSource ( in this case the DataTable) based on the rowIndex if not then Delete the sub row that was added. Why oh why doesn't my asp.net treeview update?

I'm using an ASP.net treeview on a page with a custom XmlDataSource. When the user clicks on a node of the tree, a detailsview pops up and edits a bunch of things about the underlying object. All this works properly, and the underlying object gets updated in my background object-management classes. Yay! However, my treeview just isn't updating the display. Either immediately (which i would like it to), or on full page re-load (which is the minimal useful level i need it to be at). Am i subclassing XmlDataSource poorly? I really don't know. Can anyone point me in a good direction? Thanks! invalid postback event instead of dropdown to datagrid

I faced with funny situation. I created a page which is having some value, I set these value and control my post back event also. The problem is happening when I change a component index(ex reselect a combobox which is not inside my datagrid) then I dont know why without my page call the Page_Load it goes to create a new row in grid function and all of my parameter are null! I am just receiving null exception. So in other word I try to explain the situation: when I load my page I am initializing some parameter. then everything is working fine. in my page when I change selected item of my combo box, page suppose to go and run function related to that combo box, and call page_load, but it is not going there and it goes to rowcreated function. I am trying to illustrate part of my page. How to bind a label inside a gridview to another table?

I have a very standard Gridview, with Edit and Delete buttons auto-generated. It is bound to a tableadapter which is linked to my "RelationshipTypes" table. dbo.RelationshipTypes: ID, Name, OriginConfigTypeID, DestinationConfigTypeID I wish to use a label that will pull the name from the ConfigTypes table, using the "OriginConfigTypeID" and "DestinationTypeID" as the link. dbo.ConfigTypes: ID, Name My problem is, I can't automatically generate Edit and Delete buttons using an Inner Join in my dataset. Or can I? Do I have to manually code the delete and update methods in my code-behind?

Updating with using custom class collection not working

I've posted this yesterday on asp forum but no one replied so perhaps I'll have better luck here. For some reason the OnUpdating method does not pull new values from the grid which is in edit mode. I've search and have come across several blogs and sites, some sugesting that an ObjectDataSource is required in order to use the "e.NewValue" construct others provide code to the contrary. I don't get any errors - the variables in the code file would contain the old values rather then new ones. I don't want to use the ODS way of manipulating the data. My delete method works but not the update one. Can you suggest what is wrong with the code? How to configure a GridView CommandField to trigger Full Page Update in UpdatePanel

I have 2 user controls on my page. One is used for searching, and the other is used for editing (along with a few other things). The user control that provides the search functionality uses a GridView to display the search results. This GridView has a CommandField used for editing (showEditButton="true"). I would like to place the GridView into an UpdatePanel so that paging through the search results will be smooth. The thing is that when the user clicks the Edit Link (the CommandField) I need to preform a full page postback so that the search user control can be hidden and the edit user control can be displayed. Edit: the reason I need to do a full page postback is because the edit user control is outside of the UpdatePanel that my GridView is in. It is not only outside the UpdatePanel, but it's in a completely different user control. I have no idea how to add the CommandField as a full page postback trigger to the UpdatePanel. The PostBackTrigger (which is used to indicate the controls cause a full page postback) takes a ControlID as a parameter; however the CommandButton does not have an ID...and you can see why I'm having a problem with this. Update on what else I've tried to solve the problem: I took a new approach to solving the problem. In my new approach, I used a TemplateField instead of a CommandField. I placed a LinkButton control in the TemplateField and gave it a name. During the GridView's RowDataBound event I retrieved the LinkButton control and added it to the UpdatePanel's Triggers. This is the ASP Markup for the UpdatePanel and the GridView <asp:UpdatePanel ID="SearchResultsUpdateSection" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <asp:GridView ID="SearchResultsGrid" runat="server" AllowPaging="true" AutoGenerateColumns="false"> <Columns> <asp:TemplateField> <HeaderTemplate></HeaderTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <asp:LinkButton ID="Edit" runat="server" Text="Edit"></asp:LinkButton> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:BoundField ...... </Columns> </asp:GridView> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> In my VB.NET code. I implemented a function that handles the GridView's RowDataBound event. In this method I find the LinkButton for the row being bound to, create a PostBackTrigger for the LinkButton, and add it to the UpdatePanel's Triggers. This means that a PostBackTrigger is created for every "edit" LinkButton in the GridView Edit: this did not create a PostBackTrigger for Every "edit" LinkButton because the ID is the same for all LinkButtons in the GridView. onCommand on button not firing inside gridView??

This is really driving me crazy. I've got a button inside a gridview to remove that item from the gridview (its datasource is a list). I've got the list being saved to session anytime a change is being made to it, and on page_load check if that session variable is empty, if not, then set that list to bind to the gridview. If I keep it commented out...it fires no problem, but then of course my list can never have more than one item since I am not loading the saved list from session into the gridview but just a fresh one. But the button click is being registered, because page_load is being stepped through again when I am viewing in debug mode, just deleteUser never fires. Why is this happening?? And how can I fix it??
