• Visualize flowchart diagram with multiple end symbols

  I am looking for a standardize way to visualize the following hierarchical logic: The state of the thread is represented by the answers to the hierarchical set of question You can read this listing like a flowchart, you iterate over the questions decide, go one step deeper and so on. Therefore I thought the best way to visualize it, using a flowchart. The problem is, in this hierarchical set it is possible to end in more than one state and its totally valid. I have never seen a flowchart where you can enter more than one state. Is it still possible and I am missing the right symbol to present this logic or are flowchart not fitting anyway? What other graphical representation could I use, is there something fitting in UML? A non-deterministic state machine seems not to be intuitive enough, transfering it into a deterministic state machine would result in to many states, and so on.

• Can't log in after restoring from Time Machine

  My friend uses a Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.2. She uses both FileVault and Time Machine to preserve her data. Recently, she suffered a hard disk failure. After restoring from Time Machine using the Snow Leopard install disk, she gets the following error when logging in: You are unable to log in to the FileVault user account at this time. Logging into the account failed because an error occurred. When examining the file system through Terminal, I noticed her home directory is not present: there is no /Users/username directory, or the FileVault .sparsebundle file that's supposed to be there. When using Time Machine.app on /Users, it appears as if her home directory as never there. Additionally, I did a search on the backup disk with the following command: sudo find /Volumes/backup -name '*.sparsebundle' No results. She told me that after working with some large data files, Time Machine would come on, and it would sound like it was transferring a lot of data to the hard disk. Time Machine must have been doing something, right? How can we recover her files? Are they still there?

  I want to do two things: Set up a virtual machine on Windows 7 to run Ubuntu Set up a way for the virtual machine to read the windows disk or windows to have read/write access to the virtual machine's disk. My goal is to have a place where both Ubuntu and Windows can read and write. What software is good for this task? Are their free programs that can run virtual machines? Also if my machine is running Windows 7 64-bit, can I install Ubuntu 32-bit? Or am I forced to use Ubuntu 64-bit? Or does it not matter?

  We use Apple's Time Machine to back up our workstations at the office. If I want to restore a file, I need to open up the Time Machine GUI and browse files there. The GUI is ugly eye-candy and gets in my way. Is there a way to browse the Time Machine archive using the Mac's command-line? I'm used to Netapps and other storage appliances. I use backintime for my Ubuntu workstation. To restore a file with one of those systems, you can restore a file with a simple command like: cp .snapshot/daily.0/filename.txt . or cp /backup/backintime/20100611-000002/backup/etc/shadow /etc/shadow Is there an equivalent for Apple's Time Machine?

  I am planning to assemble a custom NAS machine using an Intel Atom processor. I need the NAS for the following purposes: It should be accessible from by Windows PC so that I can dump data on the NAS (installations, media etc) It should be accessible from my Macbook for the above use. I should be able to use it with the Mac time machine software for backup. The media should be available to my PS3 for streaming. I should be able to access it from my iphone. All the above features should be available over wireless. The time machine feature is very important. Is this even possible? Can someone provide resources on how I can assemble such a machine and setup the required software on it? Much appreciated.

  Is it possible to setup one single machine with Windows 7 x64 OS and somehow make it work as if it's part of a certain domain? So domain controller would be simulated in some way? I would like to avoid VMs and make it actually work on one machine with non server OS. Is there even a simpler way of doing it?   I have a virtual machine that is running IE 9 and windows 7 Latest Updates that I want to use to test my intranet site (ASP.Net Application). I can't add the virtual machine to the domain and I don't want to have to type my ad cruds everytime I load the site up. Is there a way for the IE on the virtualbox to Authenticate as my AD Cruds on the host machine so I don't have to always put my username and password in ? I guess I can just have IE on the virtual machine remember my username and password but other than that is there another way to do this ?

  I'm trying to make a framework for a game I've wanted to do for quite a while. The first thing that I decided to implement was a state system for game states. When my "original" idea of having a doubly linked list of game states failed I found This blog and liked the idea of a stack based game state manager. However there were a few things I found weird: Instead of RAII two class methods are used to initialize and destroy the state Every game state class is a singleton(and singletons are bad aren't they?) • NTbackup doesn't complete on system state

  I have a Windows 2003 server that is running a semi-custom backup task. The scheduled task calls NTbackup with a few switches depending on whether it is a full or incremental backup. Most of the time, the NTbackup completes fine, and the wrapper then appends the NTbackup log into its own log before adding a few final comments and completing. The problem I am having is that sometimes, NTbackup seems to just... blank out. It always completes backup of the C: and E: drives, but then it will start the system state and not add any more messages into the event log saying it completed that. And the NTbackup log is left empty, since it doesn't write anything to the log until all the backup tasks are complete. This is causing the wrapper to append no text into its own log. That causes problems for us because we read the information out of that log to determine whether backups are failing. The wrapper task also reports that it is completing normally in the event log. Anyone ever seen a case where system state doesn't complete consistently? To be clear, the server is not logging any error messages anywhere. It's just not seeming to complete or log anything.

• Error during Time Machine backups on OS X Lion

  After I turn on my machine, the first couple of Time Machine backups seem to go OK, but after about an hour I get this error: Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder. Latest successful backup: 7/31/11 at 12:32 PM I'm running 10.7. Time Machine is backing up an internal HD to an external USB HD. I've already run Disk Utility to repair the Time Machine partition. It's a relatively new hard drive and didn't have any issues.   We have several users in the field with MacBooks. Because they're not always on the network, they save files locally to their notebooks. Normally I back things up by making quick copies to other media, but with the Macs they have the option to run Time Machine (and the way OS X is designed, they're heavily encouraged to use it.) Question; for maintaining Macs and data, how reliable and thorough is Time Machine for backup/restoration? Does it just back up the user's home directory, or can it restore the Mac if, for example, the drive fails? And are there options for "securing" the data like corporate backup software for Windows does, to encrypt the data on the time machine drive?

  I have virtualized laptops before, when someone gets a new one and doesn't want to quite let go of their old laptop for fear of losing something. This was using VMWare Workstation 7.X. In 8.0 when I go to "Convert a Physical Machine to a Virtual Machine", it asks for an IP address and doesn't give the option to virtualize the machine it's running on. How to I get VMWare to virtualize it's current system? I tried typing in Localhost, and 127.0.0.1 but that didn't do it.

  I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and I want to install turnkey linux's LAMP server on my machine to test out my code. I installed Turnkey LAMP via VirtualBox and it seems to be working because I can access the http://localhost. My question is: How do I manipulate files via VirtualBox? For example, if I had installed LAMP on my machine (not on a virtual machine), I could easily add/edit/delete files in the var/WWW folder. • Partition External Harddrive already using Time Machine?

  I have a 1TB external that I've used to backup my Mac for the past year using Time Machine. Unfortunately, my hard drive is getting close to full, and I'd like to move some of the stuff off of my Mac onto the same external drive. The problem is that the external drive is already full with my Time Machine Backups. I'd like to partition 750GB to the Time Machine Backups, and save the other 250GB for personal use. Is there any way I can go about this without corrupting my current backups? I'm willing to delete some of the older backups if necessary; again I'm just worried about corrupting the data.

• Win XP Virtual Machine APP that won't START as a terminal services client

  I have a Win XP Virtual Machine APP that won't START as a terminal services client..... but if i disable terminal services inside the virtual machine, start the app then start terminal services... the APP runs fine (so long as terminal services are disabled when it starts.....!) My question is... is it possible to script things somehow so as to allow this app to be accessed directly from win 7 (with out having to manually run XP virtual machine)... I.E as I can not run it this way as it won't START with terminal services running.... I.e is it somehow possible to script things so the APP starts and terminal services is delayed then kicks in after a time delay.... (I know this may not be possible but I'm getting sick of all the mucking around...)

• How to Configure a vm on the same machine to do remote desktop [closed]

  I want to achieve following: (Note I'd like to get this done first of all with Win7 as both host and vm OS) Install Windows 7/xp/Windows 8 VM on Windows 7/Windows 8 host machine Configure it so that I can connect to it via remote desktop. This is because I use a screen reader software and audio output directly from VMs is not highly responsive. My software has a feature that it can connect to its copy on the remote machine (during rdp session) and then start receiving the text description which it translates into audio on the client (host in this case) machine. I want to know: Which VM software can let me do this – VMWare/Ms Virtual PC or VirtualBox If it is possible with every VM software, could you give an example of how to do this with anyone of these 3? Specifically, I know how to install Windows on VM (on both VMWare/Virtual PC), but don't really know how to configure a network such that I can remote into that VM from host OS. Hope it clarifies what I'm trying to achieve.
