    Can you please help me understand how this particular functionality works: I have a domain: example.com, it's registered with GoDaddy. its nameservers are set to linode: ie. ns1.linode.com, ns2.linode.com But at the same time, I can setup a subdomain redirect on GoDaddy and it works. So, I can create a 301 redirect from www. - non www. Can you please tell me how GoDaddy can do this?

  • Adding SPF records in GoDaddy

    I have the GoDaddy hosting and send mail using the following code: $to = "[email protected]"; $subject = "Test mail"; $message = "Hello! This is a simple email message."; $from = "[email protected]"; $headers = "From:" . $from; mail($to,$subject,$message,$headers); echo "Mail Sent."; When the mail arrives at its destination I see the following (in red outline) I don't want to show the "via server" and for that there is an option to add a SPF record. To do this I have followed the instructions in this page: Managing DNS for Your Domain Names but it's not working. After that i have tried: v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all as described in http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=178723 but I still get the same result. How can I solve this and prevent "via server" showing?

    Hello. For my upcoming social networking website, I am looking for suggestions on the best way to implement emailing. Here are some of my requirements and constraints: Requirements: - Should be able to send emails based on events (new registrations, change password, etc.), promotions (advertisements based on user consent), bulk mails (newsletters), reminders (profile updates), etc. I hope I got the point through. - Should be able to process faults (incorrect email address, mail-box full, etc) - User initiated invites (inviting friends to connect) Constraints: - As of now I am looking at Godaddy for hosting. Subsequently I shall move to, may be Amazon Cloud. Godaddy seems to be excruciatingly conservative (not bad always) when it comes to the ability to send email. - My tests on Godaddy so far have been discouraging. There is limit to no. of emails I can send and sometimes if emails carries special characters it throws strange exceptions like there was a virus affected attachment (even though I hadn't attached a thing). The replies from Godaddy support have been equally funny. My intent is not to portray Godaddy as wrong but I am looking for a work-around that frees me from said constraints. I am looking for a mechanism / service that is either free of very cost effective. I wonder how other sites address this. Mine is a .Net / Windows based application.

    I have the domain http://dropbox.tombrito.com/ (on GoDaddy) forwarding with masking to www.dropbox.com/sh/k6ypvx4y4kf0gu6/rdjxQ1b1OL It was working fine some time ago, but now the result is a blank page (although the Dropbox's favicon appears correctly in the browser's tab title).   • Resolving a cname using different DNS

    I have a domain name (e.g. abc.com) registered in GoDaddy and I have a few subdomains (mail, blog) correctly setup to a different hosts. Now I want to park my domain with a parking host (seohosting.com) which asked me to change my nameserver to their DNS. What I want is to only redirect dns queries for (www or @) cname to seohosting.com while still being able to use my other cname for my own purpose. Is there a way to do this? I dont have the host IP address for parking host.

  • Is is good or bad to have the email address of a domain's registrant on the same domain?

    Say I own domain abc.com. I think it's a bad idea to use [email protected] as the registrant's (myself) email address. This will cause problems when I need to transfer the domain to another registrar e.g. GoDaddy. The new registrar will then try to send email to [email protected] which is unlikely to function normally since the DNS settings are undergoing changes. So I believe it's best to use email address independent from the domains I own as the registrant's email address. (Isn't it the practice Google Apps is using?) Have I missed something here or am I right?

    I'm using Goddady for site hosting, and I'm currently using MySQL, because there are less limits on size,etc. My question is what is the difference between using a hosted Godaddy Db such as MySQL vs. creating a SQL Serverdatabase in the the App_Data folder? My guess is security? Would it be a bad idea to use a SQL ServerDB thats located in the App_Data folder? Additional Well I am able to create a .mdf (SQL Server DB file) in the App_Data folder, but I'm really unsure if should use that or not, If I did use it it would simplify using some of the Microsoft tools. Like I said my guess is that it would be less secure, but I don't really know. I know I have a 10gb, file system limit, so I'm assuming my db would have to share that space.

  • Easiest solution to setup payments for a conference registration page?

    I've got a fair amount of website development experience, but I've been asked to setup a conference registration page in short order. However, I have absolutely zero experience with shopping carts, payment processing, etc. What is the absolutely quickest and easiest way to get this thing up and running? Here are my criteria: Site is currently hosted on Godaddy.com and someone has suggested using their QuickCart We cannot use any option that visits the paypal.com domain because it has been blocked my a large segment of the potential audience (on a military base). Need a $0 option for speakers Cancellations can be accepted, so maybe something that could handle that would be a bonus There is no "product" other than a confirmation that they have registered for the conference.

  • Purchase existing domain and transfer to new registrar

    I am purchasing an existing domain from the owner who has it registered with GoDaddy. I want to transfer the domain to another registrar and of course have it under my name. If they update the registrant info to my name then it will lock down for 60 days. That's no good. If they simply transfer it to my registrar, how will they update the registrant info? I know about escrow services, but I don't feel I need one because I trust the seller and the amount is (relatively) small. Advice? Thanks!

    In my GoDaddy DNS manager, I made some A Record that points to *.mirror for my domain Now when I access URL 123.mirror.mydomain.com from the browser I can see that my app is loaded, and its all OK. My problem now is when doing a CNAME point to the URL above on another domain like this: Accessing 123.otherdomain.com which I expect to "forward to" 123.mirror.mydomain.com I only get this 404 error: The IP 173.194.71.121 is actually ghs.googlehosted.com What I am missing here? Why 123.otherdomain.com which points to 123.mirror.mydomain.com cannot open that page and I think google is handing the web page request?

    I submitted my site's URL to my workplace's printed newsletter and when I get the printed version, they added a dot to the end of it. Some people will realize that the period is not a part of the url but others will not. Is there an easy way to redirect from http://example.com/home. to http://example.com/home? I have a IIS 7.0 shared hosting with GoDaddy. This means I have access to the box only through their interface so some options might be limited.

    My site, www.example.com has a MyBB forum installation, and has many users constantly checking it out. I would like to make a major change to it - basically, I want to delete everything it has and start clean. However, this rebuilding process may take me hours since I need to do a lot of things. Thus, whenever an user tries to enter any part of my site (www.example.com, www.example.com/blog etc), the user will always be redirected to www.example.com/underconstruction so they can see a nice HTML site explaining the current situation. But not only that - while I am configuring my site, I need to visit it myself to make sure things do work live. So basically, it has to redirect everyone who isn't me. Is that possible in any way? I am using GoDaddy hosting.

  • Hide from google while developing

    I will be building a (wordpress) web site. While I am developing, other team members will be pushing content. I'd like to have it hidden from google while under development. It will be hosted on godaddy. I have thought of not pointing the domain name to it until live and using "preview dns", or buying a static IP during development. Or hosting dev site in a sub-directory ("/dev/") until ready and then moving it up a level. If in the dev directory I'd add htaccess or robots.txt to not crawl. Is any of this a bad idea? Will google penalize for any of this - like search by IP and then associate that with the domain later on? Any better ideas?

  • intermittent DNS problems

    How would I go about tracking this issue down? One of my websites has been up for years without issue. We're using Godaddy's nameservers for our domain. Lately in the past two weeks, I've noticed that once from home on my Cox cable connection, I could not connect to the site... it said the domain could not be resolved. I checked downforeveryoneorjustme.com, and it said it was fine. The "outage" lasted maybe five minutes (through a reboot too, and I'm on a mac FWIW) and then it started working again. Then it happened again this week, but from our office on a different Cox connection. Then it happened again from the office, but for a different domain. I called Cox during one outage, and the tech there could resolve the domain without a problem. When these outages are occurring, I can issue "host mydomain.com" and get "domain not found", but using "host mydomain.com 8.8.8.8" will resolve normally. Where do I start? We're getting reports now that our customers are experiencing it too.

  • What's required for a nameserver to be registered?

    I'm trying to change nameservers for some of my domains at GoDaddy, but I occasionally run into "Nameserver not registered" problems, and then I'm not allowed to set the nameservers. Here are the cases I've tried, and I still don't understand what it takes to have a registered nameserver. With ns1 and ns2 pointing to my nameservers, I can set the nameservers successfully when I set up domains as follows: Host Summary entries for ns1 and ns2 at GoDaddy .co.cc domains with A records for ONLY ns1 and ns2 Hosted with other nameservers. Have only A records for ns1 and ns2 But these do NOT work (nameserver not registered error): .info domains at GoDaddy with A records for ONLY ns1 and ns2 Hosts with dyndns.org that point to IP of nameservers Also, when I dig any domains hosted at my nameservers using any of the above, I get the correct response. So what's the deal here? Why do the last two cases get "nameserver not registered errors"? Thanks!

  • Trying to configure DNS on a Godaddy Virtual Dedicated host, Mediatemple Domain Registration [closed]

    A client of mine purchased VD hosting with Godaddy and a domain name with Mediatemple. I've never configured DNS from scratch, and I'm finding it very difficult to find any sort of explanation on how to go about it. As of right now, Mediatemple is pointing to the Godaddy's ns1.domaincontrol.com and ns2.domaincontrol.com nameservers. The VD hosting on Godaddy (via their Simple Control Panel) has options to "Add a new domain", which brings you through a wizard of sorts that asks you if the domain has already been registered (yes), what it is (dclowd9901.com for this example), create a system username and password for it (with checkboxes for SSH and FTP access), which level of user can administer it, and whether a mail account should be setup. When complete, it also creates a zone file. In this zone file, the Primary nameserver is ns1.dclowd9901.com; the records are as follow (where 12.23.12.34 is the presumed host): @ A 12.23.12.34 @ NS ns1 @ NS ns2 ns1 A 12.23.12.34 ns2 A 12.23.12.34 @ MX mail www A 12.23.12.34 ftp A 12.23.12.34 ssh A 12.23.12.34 mail A 12.23.12.34 If anyone can shed any light on this for me, explain to me the interactions between the registrar and the host and so on, I'd be very grateful.     I have a domain from Godaddy and web hosting at Bluehost. I want to make this work as some people say no need to transfer the domain from Godaddy to Bluehost. I was trying to find out how to get this work out by adding name servers for Bluehost ns1.bluehost.com ns2.bluehost.com at Godaddy. This works fine, but not sure if 100% OK yet. The reason why I say that is when I type in my address name on any browser this way: mydomain.com it doesn't work. Instead I get an error message stating that this server is not found or couldn't connect to it... However, when I write the domain name and include the www. prefix it works fine... The other problem is when I search in google or yahoo, the domain shows like this: mydomain.com , which is not really good because my clients think my site is down because of the error message, and most new people don't know if they have to add www. to the domain to work. I just want to make at least the domain works like this: mydomain.com

  • Name Servers changed over 48 hrs ago and site is still down

    Ok, I just recently changed Name Servers for my site (Oct. 29th): http://dream-portal.net but there is an issue, the name servers were changed from godaddy, however, the DNS is being hosted elsewhere. Godaddy states that the DNS is resolving the site to www.dream-portal.net and that is making it inaccessible from the DNS on the other host and that they can't do anything because I'm not hosting DNS with godaddy. I've contacted the other host and they say that everything is fine, however, people are not able to access the site and I can't access it from my work computer. I can only access it from my home computer. From my work computer it says that the page can not be found. What should I do? What can I do?     As I'm writing this our company website and the web-service we developed are down in the big GoDaddy outage resulting from an Anonymous attack (or so says Twitter). We used GoDaddy as our registrar and we use it for DNS for some domains. Tomorrow is a new day - what can we do to mitigate such outages? Simply moving to, say, Route 53 for DNS might not be enough. Is there any way to remove this single point of failure?

They promise high speed and offer globally distributed DNS servers and a programmable interface. While GoDaddy doesn't offer a programmable interface, I assume their servers are geographically distributed as well. What are the main reasons I should opt to use Amazon Route 53 over free registrar-based DNS?
