  • Why is the link between my switch and my router always negotiating half-duplex mode?

    I have a Cisco 2950 switch which has one of its ports connected to an Internet router provided by my ISP; I have no access to the router configuration, but I manage the switch. If I leave all switch ports with their default setup (auto-negotiation of speed and duplex mode), this link always connects at 100 MBit/s, but in half-duplex mode. I've tried replacing the cable, and also moving the link to another switch port: the result is always the same. A different device connected to the same port (or to any switch port, really) shows no problem at all. It could be guesed that someone configured the router to only connect in half-duplex mode... BUT, here's the catch: if I manually force the switch port to full-duplex mode (duplex full in the interface configuration), the link goes up, stays up and is completely stable. So: The connection is not forced to half-duplex mode by the router, otherwise it would not connect at all if I force the switch end to full-duplex. There is no actual link problem, otherwise the full-duplex connection would not go up or would at least show some errors. But if I leave the port free to auto-negotiate, it always connects in half-duplex mode. Why?

  • Samsung Color Laser printer CLP-365W: all printout condensed into left half?

    After installing the Samsung Color Laser Printer CLP-365W in 12.04, the printout is condensed into the left half of the A4 page (regardless whether 'fit to page' on or off). This happens both with the automatically recognised Ubuntu driver and the 'Unified Linux driver' from the Samsung website.   • Why Is Bottom Half of Custom UIActionSheet with UIDatePicker Disabled?

    Everything seems to be working great with my UIActionSheet that contains a UIDatePicker except that the bottom half of the DatePicker is disabled. Visually there is a shadow that makes the bottom half of the picker darker than the top half. Everything in the bottom half is disabled and I can't for the life of me figure out how to enable it. I also noticed in my other "normal" UIActionSheets that just contain buttons, the bottom half of the cancel buttons are disabled.   • Half the time Linux drop into BusyBox; the rest of the time the boot happens normally

    I just installed Ubuntu x64 onto a USB3 Drive from a DVD, and half the time it appears to skip the grub menu and boots directly into BusyBox. Since the USB3 drive is an SSD, I ran through the full installation (installing on an ext4 partition, along side a 1GB boot partition at the start of the disk), skipping the swap partition. Part of the time that the Grub Menu does shows, it boots into BusyBox with an error: ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/[uid] does not exist. Dropping to a shell! What could cause such an issue?

  • Can I provision half a core as a virtual CPU?

    I am virtualization newbie. Please advise on these questions. Please note using a commercial VM software like Citrix or VMware is not a choice for me. I have at my disposal a couple of 2x 4 core servers with 32 GB RAM. I need to create 16 VMs on each server to test some web applications. Can I provision half a core as a virtual CPU for each VM? To my best knowledge I can't do so on Xen. Is it possible on KVM or some other free open source VM solution? If it's not possible to assign half a core, how do I ensure that uniform processing power is available for all VMs? Since the job is to create separate instances for hosting 16 web apps in a physical server, do you recommend setting up a private cloud using Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud as a better option? Is there HA solution under KVM, like Remus for Xen?

I need: Dynamic DNS Firewall + port-forwarding VPN Wake-on-LAN from outside firewall VOIP would be nice QoS would be nice (make torrents take lower priority to other services when those other services are happening) DHCP Wireless + WPA2 security Ability to play multiplayer computer games I am not a networking or computing neophyte, but the last time I messed with network gear was a few years ago, so am needing to dust off knowledge I kinda half have. I have read that I should be wanting to set up the AM200 in half-bridge mode, so that the WRT54GL gets the WAN IP - this sounds like a good idea, but I'd still like to be advised. I have read that the dd-wrt firmware will meet my needs (though I gather I'll need the vpn-specific build, which appears to preclude supporting VOIP), but I'm not wedded to using it. My ISP supplies me with: a block of 8 static IPs, of which 5 are usable to me a PPPoA ADSL2+ connection

  • Why is my metro screen getting extended to half of the second screen?

    When I extend my desktop to the second screen, it stays fine for a few minutes, but after a while, the first metro screen stretches all the way to half of the second screen. The search bar etc stops working. The desktop itself shares fine. But the metro screen is messed up as well as the resolution. The second screen is using the recommended resolution. All I want is to have an extended screen. The problem occurs in my office Windows 8 laptop as well. Not sure what to do with it.     I am trying the Emacs MULE ITRANS input method to enter Devanagari unicode text. I am looking to enter a key sequence for Devanagari letter "Half-R" (??) i.e. U0931 U094d (which should be mapped to R according to the ITRANS Wikipedia page). While all other keys in the map work fine, this particular one does not! I know I can use M-x ucs-insert (or CTRL-x-8 RET) to enter this sequence, but it is getting tiresome. How do I fix this problem ?

  • Why aren't my MySQL Group By Hours vs Half Hours files Not displaying same data?

    I need to be able to display data that I have in 15 minute increments in different display types. I have two queries that are giving me trouble. One shows data by half an hour, the other shows data by hour. The only issue is that the data totals change between queries. It's not counting the data that happens between the time frames, only AT the time frames. Ex: There are 5 things that happen at 7:15am. 2 that happen at 7:30am and 4 that show at 7:00am. The 15 minute view displays all of the data. The half hour view displays the data from 7:00am and from 7:30am but ignores the 7:15am. The hour display only shows the 7:00am data Here are my queries: $query="SELECT * FROM data WHERE startDate='$startDate' and queue='$queue' GROUP BY HOUR(start),floor(minute(start)/30)"; and $query="SELECT * FROM data WHERE startDate='$startDate' and queue='$queue' GROUP BY HOUR(start) "; How can I pull out the data in groups like I have but get all the data included? Is the issue the way the data is stored in the mysql table? Currently I have a column with dates (2010-03-29) and a column with times (00:00) Do I need to convert these into something else?

  • Customer owes me half my payment. Should I take ownership of his AWS account for charging? How?

    Background They paid me my first half (back in April 15th) before even we could get into an agreement. Very nice of him! Then I've finished the 2 weeks job of setting up the servers, using his AWS credentials he had just bought. I waited for another 2 weeks for everything settling up, and it was all running fine. He did what he needed with his sftp account, everyone were happy. Now, it has been almost 2 months since I've finished the job and I still didn't get the 2nd half. I must assume, it's not much money (about U$400, converted), but it would help me pay the bills at least. Heck, the Amazon bills they are paying are little less than that (for now). Measures I'm wondering how I can go to charge him now. First thought, of course, would be taking everything down and say "pay now, or be doomed". If that's not good enough, then I lost it. I have no contracts and I doubt I could get a law suit in this country for such a low value based only on emails. And I don't really want to get too agressive here - there might be a business chance in the future and I don't want to ruin it. Second though would be just changing the password. But then he probably could gain access again by some recovery means. That's where my question may mainly relay. How can I do it and not leaving any room for recovery from his side? I even got the first AWS "your account was created" mail from himself, showing me I could begin my job, back then. Lastly, do you have any other idea on what I can and what I should do in this case? Responding to Answers Please, consider reading the current answers and comments. This is not a very simple case. I've considered many, many options (including all lawful ones) before considering this ones I've listed here, and I am willing to take the loss and all that. That's not the point. The point is being practical here. I will call him again and talk about it. I will do terrorism on getting lawyers and getting contract. I am ready to go all forth while I have time and energy for it. But, in practice, there is this extra thing I can do to assure myself of the work I've done. I can basically take it back and delete everything! I'd only take his password because I can find no other way to do it within Amazon. Maybe, contacting Amazon and explaining the situation?     I have a group of divs which I'm dynamically generating when a button is clicked with the class, "brick". This gives them dimension and starting position of top: 0. I'm trying to get them to animate to the bottom of the view using a css transition with a second class assignment which gives them a bottom position: 0;. Can't figure out the syntax for adding a second class to elements with a pre-existing class. On inspection they only show the original class of, "brick".   • asp.net could a half submitted web page be processed?

    Having a weird bug in production and just wondering if it's possible for a half submitted web page to processed by the server? The page has no view state just using plain old html controls and accessing data displayed in repeater on the back end via Request.Form[name] etc. Is it possible for a request to be truncated perhaps due to lost internet connection and the page still processed by the server. Therefore if field not part of the request Request.Form[name] could result in null? I know can use fiddler to modify request but unfortunately we are not allowed to change group policy and change the proxy! Many Thanks

His original programmer couldn't continue so he wants me to finish it. Problem is I don't program using VB.NET nor have I any intention of learning it for a project this small. Usually I would run from something like this but I need the cash. Should I take the project and continue it using C# or just leave it. Has anyone had a similar experience and how did it turn out.
