    I have Solaris machine with IP 10.10.10.100 and default getway 10.10.10.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0 remark - solaris machine connected to cisco switch via cross cable and from switch to my laptop I configure my laptop to connect to my Solaris machine so my laptop IP is 10.10.10.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0 but something not clearly I have ssh connection from my laptop to my Solaris machine ( I mean I in my solaris machine ) but from Solaris machine I can do ping to 10.10.10.1 ? ( how it can be ??? ) please advice why?

  • Modify shell script to monitor/ping multiple ip addresses

    Alright so I need to constantly monitor multiple routers and computers, to make sure they remain online. I have found a great script here that will notify me via growl(so i can get instant notifications on my phone) if a single ip cannot be pinged. I have been attempting to modify the script to ping multiple addresses, with little luck. I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to ping a down server while the script keeps watching the online servers. any help would be greatly appreciated. I haven't done much shell scripting so this is quite new to me.   • Azure can't ping or telnet VM from client

    I have a VM on Azure with an instance sqlserver 2012 running on it. From my work computer and my home computer I can't get sqlserver management studio connect to it. I have looked at ALL the settings recommended in numerous articles. everything is setup correctly. endpoint 1433 Private and public sqlserver tcp enabled. sqlserver tcp listening on right port sqlserver using mixed auth windows fire wall, holes poked and then disabled on both client and VM can log in from VM using the credentials that I'm trying to use remotely further more I can't ping the dns or ip or tellnet address from my local machines. I can however hit the iis from a browser using the ip. strange. CS asked me to download MS Network Monitor, which I did and pinged and telneted. I have the results saved but can't really make heads or tails of them. CS hasn't responded yet. I can post some info here that would help. EDIT Never one to shrink from a challenge, I deleted my VM and re-did everything. Now it works although my confidence azure is somewhat shaken.

  • VM load and ping problems after replacing server motherboard

    Recently, we had to replace the motherboard of one of our servers. The procedure was done by IBM as it had guarantee. The server runs ESXi 5.1, with several virtual machines, including our main mail server (Domino) and a file server. After the replacing the motherboard and staring the VMs, ESXi asked us if we had moved it or copied (different motherboard is like a different computer). We clicked the latter. We started each machine and after some basic reconfiguration, all of them were up. However, we have been having problems with the mail server, it has been acting really slow at times (this could be when it syncs with the secondary mail server) and we have been checking with Centreon (a Nagios frontend) that its CPU load has been a bit high at times and ping response too. There was a moment this morning in which I tried connecting via SSH console and it was really slow to show login and basic commands like ifconfig and top. This particular mail server is a CentOS 4.4.7 64-bit. The little configuring we had to do after restarting it was to configure the network connection as it was resolving through DHCP. Our mail software is Lotus Notes server 9. Do you know of any way in which this replacement may be causing these difficulties, and how to fix it? Thanks.

  • Can ping device from one computer and not the other

    I've recently been assigned to work on a diagnostic program done in C++ which communicates with a piece of electronic equipment. Our normal scenario involves communicating via an RS232 interface, but I've been asked to make our program work over ethernet, source code having been done in Visual Basic. After much thrashing about trying to get the code to work and continuing to get 10049 Winsock errors when I tried to connect, I tried pinging the switch. From the computer the VB program is running on, I can see the switch via ping, nslookup, tracert, and pathping (I was going down the list of programs) and I can do this via URI or IP address. From my laptop, sending the same commands fails every time. They're both using the same network cable and the same USB-to-Ethernet device (I've been swapping them between tests) but one can see the switch and the other cannot. I'm working on the programming end, but the ping results makes me think that there might be a network issue stymieing me. wry grin I'm not much of a network guy, so I'm appealing to expert assistance. Both computers are running Windows XP if that helps. The connection is to an "IP-RS8" device which then connects to our VCU-C units. Each unit is accessible via URI or IP address on the desktop computer we usually have connected to the units (it's running the older VB program that I was asked to lift the networking code from). The connection is made via a USB-to-Ethernet adapter so as to leave the regular Ethernet port available for connecting to the company network. Hmm... come to think of it, I've probably been confusing the issue, talking about pinging "the switch" rather than indicating that it's the devices. My apologies. Communication is generally done with a DLL that uses Winsock functions to make queries for data from the VCU and then to receive. I'm failing when connecting. I haven't found anything on the firewall which should block these commands, but I'll keep poking. I don't know if it's potentially relevant, but on the desktop, the adapter maps to Local Area Connection 3 while on the laptop, it consistently maps to Local Area Connection 2. Also, ping ignores many other parameters, again, by exiting silently. I failed to find any references that DD-WRT has a limited version of ping whatsoever. I also don't think it can be a permissions issue as mentioned here since the only user with DD-WRT is root. What's wrong?

    I'm trying to make 2 virtual machines communicate in Virtual Box, but whitout any success. Here are the step I have done: I setted both VMs in Internal networking mode (using VBoxManage modifyvm "VM name" --nic<x> intnet) I setted the DHCP server that is built into VirtualBox to manage IP addresses :VBoxManage dhcpserver add --netname intnet --ip 10.13.13.100 --netmask 255.255.255.0 --lowerip 10.13.13.101 --upperip 10.13.13.254 --enable But then both of the VM have the same IP Adresse (10.13.13.101) and even if set the IP manually, the Virtual Machines are not pinging each other.

  • Weirdly high ping on direct ethernet connection?

    I bought new Lenovo IdeaCentre H430 pc and I'm having problem with high pings. Windows 7 with on-board realtek NIC. Fresh install, fully updated, drivers installed from included CD. When I start pinging router (direct 1Gb ethernet connection, 1 hop), pings start at <1ms (which is fine) and after a while they jump to 300-1000ms. I loaded up live ubuntu to test if the problem might be in HW. It's not, in ubuntu pings were always <1ms. I also noticed that when I start using connection somehow, pings go down to 1ms, but go back up when I stop using it (tested by accessing live camera feed on LAN). Power Options set to max performance. I disabled Interrupt Moderation on the NIC, didn't help. I tested it in the safe mode with networking, same problem there. It slows down our client-server based programs and I have no idea what's causing it. All I could google up was that disabling Interrupt Moderation would help, it didn't though. Anyone had similar problems? tl;nr: Computer is giving high pings to router when idle and normal pings when network is under load, it slows down our software significantly.

    I am trying to ping the network interface I have set up for eth1. This is my config: auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1 broadcast 192.168.1.255 If I ping 192.168.1.2, I get: Ping 192.168.1.2 (192.168.1.2) 56(84) bytes of data. From 192.168.1.3 icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable Results of ifconfig tell me that the IPv4 address is 192.168.1.3. I can ping this ip. Bcast and Mask are as expected (same as in definition). I can ping 192.168.1.3 from my macbook. I cannot ping 192.168.1.2 locally or from my macbook. Any ideas why?

    Does anyone have C# code handy for doing a ping and traceroute to a target computer? I am looking for a pure code solution, not what I'm doing now, which is invoking the ping.exe and tracert.exe program and parsing the output. I would like something more robust.
