  • Suggestions for a site ripper?

    - by blackrobot
I need software that will rip a site via HTTP. It needs to download the images, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as well as organize it in a file system. Does anyone know of software that does this? Or would I be better off just writing it myself?

  • Ethernet run tests green but won't connect

    - by Simon Gillbee
I have a single ethernet run at home that I just added. I have a cable tester that tests for pin/pair crossover or miswired pines. The entire line tests green (all 4 LEDs light up green on the tester) but I can't get any PC to connect through the link. No link light on the ethernet connection. Any simple tests/fixes, or do I rip out the wall sockets and do it again?

  • Dovecot Virtual Users Not Authenticating

    - by blankabout
We have a standard Postfix/Dovecot installation working perfectly with real users but cannot work out how to add virtual users, all virtual user login attempts fail with authentication errors. Following are snippets from the configuration files: /etc/postfix/main.cf: virtual_mailbox_domains = virtualexample.com virtual_mailbox_base = /var/spool/vhosts virtual_mailbox_recipients = hash:/etc/postfix/virtual_mailbox_recipients /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf: !include conf.d/*.conf /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-auth.conf auth_mechanisms = cram-md5 digest-md5 plain passdb { driver = passwd-file # Path for passwd-file. There are of course dozens of examples of using virtual users with Dovecot, but all the ones we have found either refer to Dovecot 1.x (we are using 2.x), using only virtual users (we must use real AND virtual users) or want to use a MySQL db, we need to use a text file. Some hints about where we are going wrong would be very much appreciated.

  • Postfix / Dovecot and Email Retrieval

    - by Eric J.
    I have setup Postfix and Dovecot on an Ubuntu box following the instructions http://www.exratione.com/2012/05/a-mailserver-on-ubuntu-1204-postfix-dovecot-mysql/ I can see that email is being delivered to and accepted by the server, but the email is not available for retrieval via POP3. What could be missing in my configuraton? It seems that email is not being properly handed off to Dovecot. Here are what I believe are the relevant /var/log/mail.log entries for an attempt to send email from another domain (hosted by Gmail) to the domain I have setup: Logged during SMTP connection postfix/smtpd[14689]: connect from mail-vb0-f50.google.com[209.85.212.50] postfix/smtpd[14689]: Anonymous TLS connection established from mail-vb0-f50.google.com[209.85.212.50]: TLSv1 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-RC4-SHA (128/128 bits) postfix/smtpd[14689]: 5782740ACF: client=mail-vb0-f50.google.com[209.85.212.50] postfix/cleanup[14696]: 5782740ACF: message-id=<CAEjmKcjHnTY4yk=3QXoNrD76=04g-s9utPguTFB02Fx53GMPmw@mail.gmail.com> postfix/qmgr[14687]: 5782740ACF: from=<[email protected]>, size=1947, nrcpt=1 (queue active) postfix/smtpd[14702]: connect from mail.destinationdomain.com[127.0.0.1] postfix/smtpd[14702]: 2940A41AA9: client=mail.destinationdomain.com[127.0.0.1] postfix/cleanup[14696]: 2940A41AA9: message-id=<CAEjmKcjHnTY4yk=3QXoNrD76=04g-s9utPguTFB02Fx53GMPmw@mail.gmail.com> postfix/qmgr[14687]: 2940A41AA9: from=<[email protected]>, size=2450, nrcpt=1 (queue active) amavis[21309]: (21309-02) Passed CLEAN, [209.85.212.50] <[email protected]> -> <[email protected]>, Message-ID: <CAEjmKcjHnTY4yk=3QXoNrD76=04g-s9utPguTFB02Fx53GMPmw@mail.gmail.com>, mail_id: W52ZB8FAAA+8, Hits: -0.101, size: 1946, queued_as: 2940A41AA9, [email protected], 784 ms postfix/smtpd[14702]: disconnect from mail.destinationdomain.com[127.0.0.1] postfix/smtp[14698]: 5782740ACF: to=<[email protected]>, relay=127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]:10024, delay=1.1, delays=0.29/0.01/0/0.79, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (250 2.0.0 from MTA([127.0.0.1]:10025): 250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as 2940A41AA9) postfix/qmgr[14687]: 5782740ACF: removed dovecot: lda([email protected]): msgid=<CAEjmKcjHnTY4yk=3QXoNrD76=04g-s9utPguTFB02Fx53GMPmw@mail.gmail.com>: saved mail to INBOX postfix/pipe[14703]: 2940A41AA9: to=<[email protected]>, relay=dovecot, delay=0.08, delays=0.02/0.02/0/0.04, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (delivered via dovecot service) postfix/qmgr[14687]: 2940A41AA9: removed Logged during POP3 retrieval attempts dovecot: pop3-login: Login: user=<[email protected]>, method=PLAIN, rip=209.85.220.135, lip=10.195.83.10, mpid=14706 dovecot: pop3([email protected]): Disconnected: Logged out top=0/0, retr=1/2557, del=1/1, size=2540 postfix/smtpd[14689]: disconnect from mail-vb0-f50.google.com[209.85.212.50] dovecot: pop3-login: Login: user=<[email protected]>, method=PLAIN, rip=209.85.212.31, lip=10.195.83.10, mpid=14708 dovecot: pop3([email protected]): Disconnected: Logged out top=0/0, retr=0/0, del=0/0, size=0

  • Ripping sound from online video through soundcard?

    - by overtherainbow
Hello There are a couple of videos on the Web whose soundtracks I'd like to rip so I can listen to them at the gym, but all of the web apps like KeepVid that I tried failed downloading them. As a work-around, I'll just play the videos and record the soundtrack for later listening. Are there good applications for Windows, free or affordable, that will let me record whatever is being played on the soundcard? Thank you.

  • In Linux how do I mount a OS-X partition * by name * that is on the same host?

    - by philcolbourn
I once used gnome-mount like this gnome-mount -o ro -d /dev/sda2 or gnome-mount -o ro -p "Macintosh HD" But, alas, gnome-mount seems to be no more. RIP. I can do this gvfs-mount -d /dev/sda2 (which generates a whole lot of errors but does mount the partition in the /media directory.) This is a related question: http://superuser.com/questions/131918/gnome-mount-alternative-in-ubuntu-10-04-or-how-to-mount-partition-with-normal-use But how do you do it by name?

Comment pointed out that this may fix my problem, and it did: Why don't mails show up in the recipient's mailspool? • What is the best method for ripping DVD to stream to Xbox 360?

    - by Dan9298
What is the best method to rip/encode a standard definition DVD, to be streamed to a Xbox360 from a Vista Media Center pc (preferably using free software). I’ve found tons of tutorials on the web explaining how to create wmv’s from vob files using FFMpeg, but every combination of settings that I have tried has resulted in very poor video quality. I’ve also tried various video conmversion tools, but everything seems to result in poor video quality, or audio that is out of sync with the picture. Please help!

  • Matching ID3 Tags to Existing Files

    - by SLaks
I have a collection of ripped CDs that were transcoded to a very low bitrate. (and I lost the original MP3s) I'd like to re-rip the CDs to a higher bitrate, and apply the ID3 tags from the existing rips to the new files. (These are custom tags; they will not be found in online databases) Is there any way to automatically copy ID3 tags by length and track number, or do I need to write one myself?

If you can provide an example for doing this, I would be very appreciative.

  • Best Web Site Copying Software

    - by GregH
I just wanted to get some opinions on the best "web site copying" software out there (free or commercial is fine). I have a site that I've recently become responsible for managing, and the previous consultant has not provided operating system access. As such, the plan is to re-host the web site. I realize there are a lot of different issues to consider in doing this. However, I don't have much choice in the matter now. The plan is to use web site copying software (ala HTTrack) to "rip" the web site, and then modify what is downloaded back in to a maintainable site. This, of course, involves HTML, css, javascript, etc on the front-end. I'd like to recover as much of the site as possible to make re-creating it as easy as possible. Your input is appreciated. Input on my approach is also appreciated. Thanks!

Paul Rea wanted to rip and copy CDs and DVDs without shelling out for a commercial duplicator and without the hassle of being bound to that commercial duplicator’s propriety software. His homebrew solution–a combination of LEGO, a rotating base, an Arduino controller, and little ingenuity–handles his ripping and copying needs with ease. At random times (usually when watching a movie in XBMC), the computer locks up. I can still sometimes SSH in and get the 'dmesg' output before that locks up too. A hard reboot is usually required to get things going again. I have cut out the date/time/server columns for easier reading, please do ask if these seem relevant omissions... • Playing Blu-ray using VLC

    - by Kevin
I've been searching for a way to play Blu-ray using VLC on Ubuntu 12.04 64bit and all of them tell me that I've to somehow rip the disk into .mkv format then play it. But today, I found a page with directions on how to play Blu-rays directly on VLC. I've already finished downloading and pasting the files it told me to do, But it didn't work for me. Then I found a page where someone had tried it and it worked for them. Does anyone know how they got it to work? The page with the directions. The page where it worked. I also found this Does anyone know what it is talking about? I've already downloaded lxBDplayer, but I encountered a problem when installing the lcbdaacs plugins. Are there any other ways to install the lxbdaacs plugin?
