  • Animate button on MouseOver and MouseDown

    - by haagel
    I'm making my own ControlTemplate for a standard Button in WPF. I want to change the background of my button when the user hovers over the button with the mouse, but also when the user presses the button (to yet another color). This seems like a common behavior, but I can't get it to work. My template consists of a Border with an Image inside. It is the background color (a gradient really) of the Border that I want to animate. I have triggers in my template that activates animations (storyboards). The MouseOver/Out works just fine. My problem occurs when I press the button. The Press animation runs as it should, and so does the Release animation. But after this the MouseOut will never run. The button gets stuck in the MouseOver state. What am I doing wrong? <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type Button}"> <ControlTemplate.Resources> <Storyboard x:Key="MouseOverAnimation"> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop1" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffefefff" Duration="0:0:0.2" /> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop2" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffc7c7ff" Duration="0:0:0.2" /> </Storyboard> <Storyboard x:Key="MouseOutAnimation"> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop1" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffeeeeee" Duration="0:0:0.2" /> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop2" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffcccccc" Duration="0:0:0.2" /> </Storyboard> <Storyboard x:Key="MouseDownAnimation"> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop1" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffc7c7ff" Duration="0:0:0.1" /> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop2" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ff9a9aff" Duration="0:0:0.1" /> </Storyboard> <Storyboard x:Key="MouseUpAnimation"> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop1" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffefefff" Duration="0:0:0.1" /> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop2" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffc7c7ff" Duration="0:0:0.1" /> </Storyboard> </ControlTemplate.Resources> <Border x:Name="ButtonBorder" CornerRadius="0" BorderBrush="#55aaaaaa" BorderThickness="1" Width="23" Height="22"> <Border.Background> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <GradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop x:Name="ButtonBorderGradientStop1" Color="#ffeeeeee" Offset="0.0" /> <GradientStop x:Name="ButtonBorderGradientStop2" Color="#ffcccccc" Offset="1.0" /> </GradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.Background> <Image x:Name="ButtonIcon" Source="icons/searchicon_bw.png" Width="16" Height="16" /> </Border> <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsMouseOver" Value="True"> <Trigger.EnterActions> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource MouseOverAnimation}" /> </Trigger.EnterActions> <Trigger.ExitActions> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource MouseOutAnimation}" /> </Trigger.ExitActions> </Trigger> <Trigger Property="IsPressed" Value="True"> <Trigger.EnterActions> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource MouseDownAnimation}" /> </Trigger.EnterActions> <Trigger.ExitActions> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource MouseUpAnimation}" /> </Trigger.ExitActions> </Trigger> </ControlTemplate.Triggers> </ControlTemplate>

  • How to parametrize WPF Style?

    - by Konstantin
    Hi! I'm looking for a simplest way to remove duplication in my WPF code. Code below is a simple traffic light with 3 lights - Red, Amber, Green. It is bound to a ViewModel that has one enum property State taking one of those 3 values. Code declaring 3 ellipses is very duplicative. Now I want to add animation so that each light fades in and out - styles will become even bigger and duplication will worsen. Is it possible to parametrize style with State and Color arguments so that I can have a single style in resources describing behavior of a light and then use it 3 times - for 'Red', 'Amber' and 'Green' lights? <UserControl.Resources> <l:TrafficLightViewModel x:Key="ViewModel" /> </UserControl.Resources> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" DataContext="{StaticResource ViewModel}"> <StackPanel.Resources> <Style x:Key="singleLightStyle" TargetType="{x:Type Ellipse}"> <Setter Property="StrokeThickness" Value="2" /> <Setter Property="Stroke" Value="Black" /> <Setter Property="Height" Value="{Binding Width, RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}}" /> <Setter Property="Width" Value="60" /> <Setter Property="Fill" Value="LightGray" /> </Style> </StackPanel.Resources> <Ellipse> <Ellipse.Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type Ellipse}" BasedOn="{StaticResource singleLightStyle}"> <Style.Triggers> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding State}" Value="Red"> <Setter Property="Fill" Value="Red" /> </DataTrigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </Ellipse.Style> </Ellipse> <Ellipse> <Ellipse.Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type Ellipse}" BasedOn="{StaticResource singleLightStyle}"> <Style.Triggers> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding State}" Value="Amber"> <Setter Property="Fill" Value="Red" /> </DataTrigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </Ellipse.Style> </Ellipse> <Ellipse> <Ellipse.Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type Ellipse}" BasedOn="{StaticResource singleLightStyle}"> <Style.Triggers> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding State}" Value="Green"> <Setter Property="Fill" Value="Green" /> </DataTrigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </Ellipse.Style> </Ellipse> </StackPanel>

  • How can I anchor a textbox in wpf ?

    - by csuporj
    I have a window with tabs. On one of the tabs, I have a layout like below. (In fact it is more complicated, I have 4 text boxes in a row, and I have more rows.) How can I make the 3rd textbox have the width of the label + the width of the text box above, that is, to have them properly aligned ? The problem is that WPF widens the 3rd textbox, when I type text into it. Using hardcoded numbers for the sizes defeats the whole purpose of WPF. I could do that way 10 times faster in Windows Forms than in WPF. Is there a better way, than using a grid for each set of consecutive small text boxes, having to skip the large ones from the grid, because putting them in messes up everything. <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525"> <Window.Resources> <Style TargetType="{x:Type Label}"> <Setter Property="VerticalAlignment" Value="Center"/> </Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type TextBox}"> <Setter Property="VerticalAlignment" Value="Center"/> <Setter Property="Margin" Value="3"/> </Style> <Style x:Key="SmallTextBox" TargetType="{x:Type TextBox}" BasedOn="{StaticResource {x:Type TextBox}}"> <Setter Property="Width" Value="50"/> </Style> </Window.Resources> <StackPanel VerticalAlignment="Top" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Width="{Binding ElementName=grid,Path=ActualWidth}" Grid.IsSharedSizeScope="True"> <Grid Name="grid" HorizontalAlignment="Left"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto" SharedSizeGroup="c1"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto" SharedSizeGroup="c2"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Label Content="Foo:"/> <TextBox Grid.Column="1" Style="{StaticResource SmallTextBox}"/> <Label Grid.Row="1" Content="Foobar:"/> <TextBox Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="1" Style="{StaticResource SmallTextBox}"/> </Grid> <TextBox Grid.Row="1"/> <Grid Name="grid2" HorizontalAlignment="Left"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto" SharedSizeGroup="c1"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto" SharedSizeGroup="c2"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Label Content="Bar:"/> <TextBox Grid.Column="1" Style="{StaticResource SmallTextBox}"/> </Grid> </StackPanel> </Window>

  • MVVM, ContextMenus and binding to ViewModel defined Command

    - by Simon Fox
    Hi I am having problems with the binding of a ContextMenu command to an ICommand property in my ViewModel. The binding seems to be attaching fine...i.e when I inspect the value of the ICommand property it is bound to an instance of RelayCommand. The CanExecute delegate does get invoked, however when I open the context menu and select an item the Execute delegate does not get invoked. Heres my View (which is defined as the DataTemplate to use for instances of the following ViewModel in a resource dictionary): <UserControl x:Class="SmartSystems.DragDropProto.ProductLinkView" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:Proto"> <UserControl.Resources> <local:CenteringConverter x:Key="centeringConvertor"> </local:CenteringConverter> </UserControl.Resources> <UserControl.ContextMenu> <ContextMenu> <MenuItem Command="{Binding ChangeColor}">Change Color</MenuItem> </ContextMenu> </UserControl.ContextMenu> <Canvas> <Ellipse Width="5" Height="5" > <Ellipse.Fill> <SolidColorBrush Color="{Binding LinkColor}"></SolidColorBrush> </Ellipse.Fill> <Ellipse.RenderTransform> <TranslateTransform X="{Binding EndpointOneXPos, Converter={StaticResource centeringConvertor}}" Y="{Binding EndpointOneYPos, Converter={StaticResource centeringConvertor}}"/> </Ellipse.RenderTransform> </Ellipse> <Line X1="{Binding Path=EndpointOneXPos}" Y1="{Binding Path=EndpointOneYPos}" X2="{Binding Path=EndpointTwoXPos}" Y2="{Binding Path=EndpointTwoYPos}"> <Line.Stroke> <SolidColorBrush Color="{Binding LinkColor}"></SolidColorBrush> </Line.Stroke> </Line> <Ellipse Width="5" Height="5" > <Ellipse.Fill> <SolidColorBrush Color="{Binding LinkColor}"></SolidColorBrush> </Ellipse.Fill> <Ellipse.RenderTransform> <TranslateTransform X="{Binding EndpointTwoXPos, Converter={StaticResource centeringConvertor}}" Y="{Binding EndpointTwoYPos, Converter={StaticResource centeringConvertor}}"/> </Ellipse.RenderTransform> </Ellipse> </Canvas> </UserControl> and ViewModel (with uneccessary implementation details removed): class ProductLinkViewModel : BaseViewModel { public ICommand ChangeColor { get; private set; } public Color LinkColor { get; private set; } public ProductLinkViewModel(....) { ... ChangeColor = new RelayCommand(ChangeColorAction); LinkColor = Colors.Blue; } private void ChangeColorAction(object param) { LinkColor = LinkColor == Colors.Blue ? Colors.Red : Colors.Blue; OnPropertyChanged("LinkColor"); } }

  • Setting a Visual State from a data bound enum in WPF

    - by firoso
Hey all, I've got a scenario where I want to switch the visiblity of 4 different content controls. The visual states I have set opacity, and collapsed based on each given state (See code.) What I'd like to do is have the visual state bound to a property of my View Model of type Enum. I tried using DataStateBehavior, but it requires true/false, which doesn't work for me. So I tried DataStateSwitchBehavior, which seems to be totally broken for WPF4 from what I could tell. Is there a better way to be doing this? I'm really open to different approaches if need be, but I'd really like to keep this enum in the equation. Edit: The code shouldn't be too important, I just need to know if there's a well known solution to this problem. <UserControl xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" Started a new Sketchflow Prototype in Expression Blend recently and documented each of the steps.  This blog entry covers some of those steps, which are the basic elements of any prototype.  I will have more information regarding design, prototype creation, and the process of the initial phases for development in the future.  For now, I hope you enjoy this short walk through.  Also, be sure to check out my last quick entry on Sketchflow. I started off with a Sketchflow Project, just like I did in my previous entry (more specifics in that entry about how to manipulate and build out the Sketchflow Map). Once I created the project I setup the following Sketchflow Map. The CoreNavigation is a ComponentScreen setup solely for the page navigation at the top of the screen.  The XAML markup in case you want to create a Component Screen with the same design is included below. <UserControl xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" xmlns:i="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Interactivity;assembly=System.Windows.Interactivity" xmlns:pb="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Expression.Prototyping.Behavior;assembly=Microsoft.Expression.Prototyping.Interactivity" x:Class="RapidPrototypeSketchScreens.CoreNavigation" d:DesignWidth="624" d:DesignHeight="49" Height="49" Width="624">   <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <TextBlock HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="307,3,0,0" Style="{StaticResource TitleCenter-Sketch}" Text="Aütøchart Scorecards" TextWrapping="Wrap"> <i:Interaction.Triggers> <i:EventTrigger EventName="MouseLeftButtonDown"> <pb:NavigateToScreenAction TargetScreen="RapidPrototypeSketchScreens.Screen_1"/> </i:EventTrigger> </i:Interaction.Triggers> </TextBlock> <Button HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="164,8,0,11" Style="{StaticResource Button-Sketch}" Width="144" Content="Scorecard"> <i:Interaction.Triggers> <i:EventTrigger EventName="Click"> <pb:NavigateToScreenAction TargetScreen="RapidPrototypeSketchScreens.Screen_1_2"/> </i:EventTrigger> </i:Interaction.Triggers> </Button> <Button HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="8,8,0,11" Style="{StaticResource Button-Sketch}" Width="152" Content="Standard Reports"> <i:Interaction.Triggers> <i:EventTrigger EventName="Click"> <pb:NavigateToScreenAction TargetScreen="RapidPrototypeSketchScreens.Screen_1_1"/> </i:EventTrigger> </i:Interaction.Triggers> </Button> </Grid> </UserControl> Now that the CoreNavigation Component Screen is done I built out each of the others.  In each of those screens I included the CoreNavigation Screen (all those little green lines in the image) as the top navigation.  In order to do that, as I created each of the pages I would hover over the CoreNavigation Object in the Sketchflow Map.  When the utilities drawer (the small menu that pops down under a node when you hover over it) shows click on the third little icon and drag it onto the page node you want a navigation screen on. Once I created all the screens I setup the navigation by opening up each screen and right clicking on the objects that needed to point to somewhere else in the prototype. Once I was done with the main page, my Home Navigation Page, it looked something like this in the Expression Blend Designer. I fleshed out each of the additional screens.  Once I was done I wanted to try out the deployment package.  The way to deploy a Sketchflow Prototype is to merely click on File –> Package SketchFlow Project and a prompt will appear.  In the prompt enter what you want the package to be called. I like to see the files generated afterwards too, so I checked the box to see that.  When Expression Blend is done generating everything you’ll have a directory like the one shown below, with all the needed files for deployment. Now these files can be copied or moved to any location for viewing.  One can even copy them (such as via FTP) to a server location to share with others.  Once they are deployed and you run the "TestPage.html" the other features of the Sketchflow Package are available. In the image below I have tagged a few sections to show the Sketchflow Player Features.  To the top left is the navigation, which provides a clearly defined area of movement in a list.  To the center right is the actual prototype application.  I have placed lists of things and made edits.  On the left hand side is the highlight feature, which is available in the Feedback section of the lower left.  On the right hand list I underlined the Autochart with an orange marker, and marked out two list items with a red marker. In the lower left hand side in the Feedback section is also an area to type in your feedback.  This can be useful for time based feedback, when you post this somewhere and want people to provide subsequent follow up feedback. Overall lots of great features, that enable some fairly rapid prototyping with customers.  Once one is familiar with the steps and parts of this Sketchflow Prototype Capabilities it is easy to step through an application without even stopping.  It really is that easy.  So get hold of Expression Blend 3 and get ramped up on Sketchflow, it will pay off in the design phases to do so! • MVVM in Task-It

As I'm gearing up to write a post about dynamic XAP loading with MEF, I'd like to first talk a bit about MVVM, the Model-View-ViewModel pattern, as I will be leveraging this pattern in my future posts. Download Source Code Why MVVM? Your first question may be, "why do I need this pattern? I've been using a code-behind approach for years and it works fine." Well, you really don't have to make the switch to MVVM, but let me first explain some of the benefits I see for doing so. MVVM Benefits Testability - This is the one you'll probably hear the most about when it comes to MVVM. Moving most of the code from your code-behind to a separate view model class means you can now write unit tests against the view model without any knowledge of a view (UserControl). Multiple UIs - Let's just say that you've created a killer app, it's running in the browser, and maybe you've even made it run out-of-browser. Now what if your boss comes to you and says, "I heard about this new Windows Phone 7 device that is coming out later this year. Can you start porting the app to that device?". Well, now you have to create a new UI (UserControls, etc.) because you have a lot less screen real estate to work with. So what do you do, copy all of your existing UserControls, paste them, rename them, and then start changing the code? Hmm, that doesn't sound so good. But wait, if most of the code that makes your browser-based app tick lives in view model classes, now you can create new view (UserControls) for Windows Phone 7 that reference the same view model classes as your browser-based app. Page state - In Silverlight you're at some point going to be faced with the same issue you dealt with for years in ASP.NET, maintaining page state. Let's say a user hits your Products page, does some stuff (filters record, etc.), then leaves the page and comes back later. It would be best if the Products page was in the same state as when they left it right? Well, if you've thrown away your view (UserControl or Page) and moved off to another part of the UI, when you come back to Products you're probably going to re-instantiate your view...which will put it right back in the state it was when it started. Hmm, not good. Well, with a little help from MEF you can store the state in your view model class, MEF will keep that view model instance hanging around in memory, and then you simply rebind your view to the view model class. I made that sound easy, but it's actually a bit of work to properly store and restore the state. At least it can be done though, which will make your users a lot happier! I'll talk more about this in an upcoming blog post. No event handlers? Another nice thing about MVVM is that you can bind your UserControls to the view model, which may eliminate the need for event handlers in your code-behind. So instead of having a Click handler on a Button (or RadMenuItem), for example, you can now bind your control's Command property to a DelegateCommand in your view model (I'll talk more about Commands in an upcoming post). Instead of having a SelectionChanged event handler on your RadGridView you can now bind its SelectedItem property to a property in your view model, and each time the user clicks a row, the view model property's setter will be called. Now through the magic of binding we can eliminate the need for traditional code-behind based event handlers on our user interface controls, and the best thing is that the view model knows about everything that's going on...which means we can test things without a user interface. The brains of the operation So what we're seeing here is that the view is now just a dumb layer that binds to the view model, and that the view model is in control of just about everything, like what happens when a RadGridView row is selected, or when a RadComboBoxItem is selected, or when a RadMenuItem is clicked. It is also responsible for loading data when the page is hit, as well as kicking off data inserts, updates and deletions. Once again, all of this stuff can be tested without the need for a user interface. If the test works, then it'll work regardless of whether the user is hitting the browser-based version of your app, or the Windows Phone 7 version. Nice! The database Before running the code for this app you will need to create the database. First, create a database called MVVMProject in SQL Server, then run MVVMProject.sql in the MVVMProject/Database directory of your downloaded .zip file. This should give you a Task table with 3 records in it. When you fire up the solution you will also need to update the connection string in web.config to point to your database instead of IBM12\SQLSERVER2008. The code One note about this code is that it runs against the latest Silverlight 4 RC and WCF RIA Services code. Please see my first blog post about updating to the RC bits. Beta to RC - Part 1 At the top of this post is a link to a sample project that demonstrates a sample application with a Tasks page that uses the MVVM pattern. This is a simplified version of how I have implemented the Tasks page in the Task-It application. Youll notice that Tasks.xaml has very little code to it. Just a TextBlock that displays the page title and a ContentControl. <StackPanel>     <TextBlock Text="Tasks" Style="{StaticResource PageTitleStyle}"/>     <Rectangle Style="{StaticResource StandardSpacerStyle}"/>     <ContentControl x:Name="ContentControl1"/> </StackPanel> In List.xaml we have a RadGridView. Notice that the ItemsSource is bound to a property in the view model class call Tasks, SelectedItem is bound to a property in the view model called SelectedItem, and IsBusy is bound to a property in the view model called IsLoading. <Grid>     <telerikGridView:RadGridView ItemsSource="{Binding Tasks}" SelectedItem="{Binding SelectedItem, Mode=TwoWay}"                                  IsBusy="{Binding IsLoading}" AutoGenerateColumns="False" IsReadOnly="True" RowIndicatorVisibility="Collapsed"                IsFilteringAllowed="False" ShowGroupPanel="False">         <telerikGridView:RadGridView.Columns>             <telerikGridView:GridViewDataColumn Header="Name" DataMemberBinding="{Binding Name}" Width="3*"/>             <telerikGridView:GridViewDataColumn Header="Due" DataMemberBinding="{Binding DueDate}" DataFormatString="{}{0:d}" Width="*"/>         </telerikGridView:RadGridView.Columns>     </telerikGridView:RadGridView> </Grid> In Details.xaml we have a Save button that is bound to a property called SaveCommand in our view model. We also have a simple form (Im using a couple of controls here from Silverlight.FX for the form layout, FormPanel and Label simply because they make for a clean XAML layout). Notice that the FormPanel is also bound to the SelectedItem in the view model (the same one that the RadGridView is). The two form controls, the TextBox and RadDatePicker) are bound to the SelectedItem's Name and DueDate properties. These are properties of the Task object that WCF RIA Services creates. <StackPanel>     <Button Content="Save" Command="{Binding SaveCommand}" HorizontalAlignment="Left"/>     <Rectangle Style="{StaticResource StandardSpacerStyle}"/>     <fxui:FormPanel DataContext="{Binding SelectedItem}" Style="{StaticResource FormContainerStyle}">         <fxui:Label Text="Name:"/>         <TextBox Text="{Binding Name, Mode=TwoWay}"/>         <fxui:Label Text="Due:"/>         <telerikInput:RadDatePicker SelectedDate="{Binding DueDate, Mode=TwoWay}"/>     </fxui:FormPanel> </StackPanel> In the code-behind of the Tasks control, Tasks.xaml.cs, I created an instance of the view model class (TasksViewModel) in the constructor and set it as the DataContext for the control. The Tasks page will load one of two child UserControls depending on whether you are viewing the list of tasks (List.xaml) or the form for editing a task (Details.xaml). // Set the DataContext to an instance of the view model class var viewModel = new TasksViewModel(); DataContext = viewModel;   // Child user controls (inherit DataContext from this user control) List = new List(); // RadGridView Details = new Details(); // Form When the page first loads, the List is loaded into the ContentControl. // Show the RadGridView first ContentControl1.Content = List; In the code-behind we also listen for a couple of the view models events. The ItemSelected event will be fired when the user clicks on a record in the RadGridView in the List control. The SaveCompleted event will be fired when the user clicks Save in the Details control (the form). Here the view model is in control, and is letting the view know when something needs to change. // Listeners for the view model's events viewModel.ItemSelected += OnItemSelected; viewModel.SaveCompleted += OnSaveCompleted; The event handlers toggle the view between the RadGridView (List) and the form (Details). void OnItemSelected(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) {     // Show the form     ContentControl1.Content = Details; }   void OnSaveCompleted(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) {     // Show the RadGridView     ContentControl1.Content = List; } In TasksViewModel, we instantiate a DataContext object and a SaveCommand in the constructor. DataContext is a WCF RIA Services object that well use to retrieve the list of Tasks and to save any changes to a task. Ill talk more about this and Commands in future post, but for now think of the SaveCommand as an event handler that is called when the Save button in the form is clicked. DataContext = new DataContext(); SaveCommand = new DelegateCommand(OnSave); When the TasksViewModel constructor is called we also make a call to LoadTasks. This sets IsLoading to true (which causes the RadGridViews busy indicator to appear) and retrieves the records via WCF RIA Services.         public LoadOperation<Task> LoadTasks()         {             // Show the loading message             IsLoading = true;             // Get the data via WCF RIA Services. When the call has returned, called OnTasksLoaded.             return DataContext.Load(DataContext.GetTasksQuery(), OnTasksLoaded, false);         } When the data is returned, OnTasksLoaded is called. This sets IsLoading to false (which hides the RadGridViews busy indicator), and fires property changed notifications to the UI to let it know that the IsLoading and Tasks properties have changed. This property changed notification basically tells the UI to rebind. void OnTasksLoaded(LoadOperation<Task> lo) {     // Hide the loading message     IsLoading = false;       // Notify the UI that Tasks and IsLoading properties have changed     this.OnPropertyChanged(p => p.Tasks);     this.OnPropertyChanged(p => p.IsLoading); } Next lets look at the view models SelectedItem property. This is the one thats bound to both the RadGridView and the form. When the user clicks a record in the RadGridView its setter gets called (set a breakpoint and see what I mean). The other code in the setter lets the UI know that the SelectedItem has changed (so the form displays the correct data), and fires the event that notifies the UI that a selection has occurred (which tells the UI to switch from List to Details). public Task SelectedItem {     get { return _selectedItem; }     set     {         _selectedItem = value;           // Let the UI know that the SelectedItem has changed (forces it to re-bind)         this.OnPropertyChanged(p => p.SelectedItem);         // Notify the UI, so it can switch to the Details (form) page         NotifyItemSelected();     } } One last thing, saving the data. When the Save button in the form is clicked it fires the SaveCommand, which calls the OnSave method in the view model (once again, set a breakpoint to see it in action). public void OnSave() {     // Save the changes via WCF RIA Services. When the save is complete, call OnSaveCompleted.     DataContext.SubmitChanges(OnSaveCompleted, null); } In OnSave, we tell WCF RIA Services to submit any changes, which there will be if you changed either the Name or the Due Date in the form. When the save is completed, it calls OnSaveCompleted. This method fires a notification back to the UI that the save is completed, which causes the RadGridView (List) to show again. public virtual void OnSaveCompleted(SubmitOperation so) {     // Clear the item that is selected in the grid (in case we want to select it again)     SelectedItem = null;     // Notify the UI, so it can switch back to the List (RadGridView) page     NotifySaveCompleted(); } Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • WPF - ListView within listView Scrollbar problem

    - by Josh
    So I currently have a ListView "List A" who's items each have an expander control which contains another ListView "List B". The problem I am having is that sometimes List B grows so big that it extends beyond the range of List A's view area. List A's scroll bars do not pick up the fact that parts of List B are not being displayed. Is there a way to setup my xaml so that the scroll bars for List A will detect when the list inside the expander is longer then the viewing area of List A. Here is the section of code I need to modify: <TabItem Header="Finished"> <TabItem.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <DataTemplate x:Key="EpisodeItem"> <DockPanel Margin="30,3"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Title}" DockPanel.Dock="Left" /> <WrapPanel Margin="10,0" DockPanel.Dock="Right"> <TextBlock Text="Finished at: " /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding TimeAdded}" /> </WrapPanel> </DockPanel> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate x:Key="AnimeItem"> <DockPanel Margin="5,10"> <Image Height="75" Width="Auto" Source="{Binding ImagePath}" DockPanel.Dock="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top"/> <Expander Template="{StaticResource AnimeExpanderControlTemplate}" > <Expander.Header> <TextBlock FontWeight="Bold" Text="{Binding AnimeTitle}" /> </Expander.Header> <ListView ItemsSource="{Binding Episodes}" ItemTemplate="{StaticResource EpisodeItem}" BorderThickness="0,0,0,0" /> </Expander> </DockPanel> </DataTemplate> </ResourceDictionary> </TabItem.Resources> <ListView Name="finishedView" ItemsSource="{Binding UploadedAnime, diagnostics:PresentationTraceSources.TraceLevel=High}" ItemTemplate="{StaticResource AnimeItem}" /> </TabItem> List A is the ListView with name "finishedView" and List B is the ListView with ItemSource "Episodes"

  • How to make WPF DataGrid Column Header transparent

    - by joerage
    Hi, I am trying to make the column header of my WPF Datagrid to be transparent. I am able to set it to a color without problem, but I can't have it transparent. Here is what I tried: <Style x:Key="DatagridColumnHeaderStyle" TargetType="{x:Type tk:DataGridColumnHeader}"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent" /> <Setter Property="Foreground" Value="#C2C4C6" /> </Style> <Style x:Key="DashboardGridStyle" TargetType="{x:Type tk:DataGrid}"> <Setter Property="ColumnHeaderStyle" Value="{StaticResource DatagridColumnHeaderStyle}" /> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent" /> <Setter Property="RowBackground" Value="Transparent" /> </Style> <tk:DataGrid Style="{StaticResource DashboardGridStyle}" > ... </tk:DataGrid> With this code, it seems to take the default brush. What am I missing?

  • Custom CheckBox in WPF DataGrid does not update binding

    - by Pakman
In my Visual Studio 2010 WPF application, I have the following (simplified) style: <Style x:Key="MyStyle" TargetType="{x:Type CheckBox}"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Blue" /> </Style> If I use it as the ElementStyle AND EditingElementStyle in my DataGridCheckBoxColumn: <DataGridCheckBoxColumn Binding="{Binding IsEnabled}" ElementStyle="{StaticResource MyStyle}" EditingElementStyle="{StaticResource MyStyle}" /> Then my binding, IsEnabled, does not toggle when I check/uncheck a row's checkbox. If I remove either ElementStyle, EditingElementStyle, or both, then the binding updates no problem. Why is this?! Also, I tried to work around the problem using the following code: <DataGridTemplateColumn> <DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> <DataTemplate> <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding IsEnabled}" /> </DataTemplate> </DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> </DataGridTemplateColumn> However, the problem remains.

  • WPF dynamic layout: how to enforce square proportions (width equals height)?

    - by Gart
I'm learning WPF and can't figure out how to enfore my buttons to take a square shape. Here is my XAML Markup: <Window x:Class="Example" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Height="368" Width="333"> <Window.Resources> <Style x:Key="ToggleStyle" BasedOn="{StaticResource {x:Type ToggleButton}}" TargetType="{x:Type RadioButton}"> </Style> </Window.Resources> <RadioButton Style="{StaticResource ToggleStyle}"> Very very long text </RadioButton> </Window> Specifying explicit values for Width and Height attributes seems like a wrong idea - the button should calculate its dimensions based on its contents automagically, but keep its width and height equal. Is this possible?

  • WPF: Menu Items only bind command parameters once.

    - by Aran Mulholland
Ive noticed this a couple of times when using menus with commands, they are not very dynamic, check this out. I am creating a menu from a collection of colours, I use it to colour a column in a datagrid. Anyway when i first bring up the menu (its a context menu) the command parameter binding happens and it binds to the column that the context menu was opened on. However the next time i bring it up it seems wpf caches the menu and it doesnt rebind the command parameter. so i can set the colour only on the initial column that the context menu appeared on. I have got around this situation in the past by making the menu totally dynamic and destroying the collection when the menu closed and forcing a rebuild the next time it opened, i dont like this hack. anyone got a better way? <MenuItem Header="Colour" ItemsSource="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource AncestorType={x:Type local:ResultEditorGrid}}, Path=ColumnColourCollection}" ItemTemplate="{StaticResource colourHeader}" > <MenuItem.Icon> <Image Source="{StaticResource ColumnShowIcon16}" /> </MenuItem.Icon> <MenuItem.ItemContainerStyle> <Style TargetType="MenuItem" BasedOn="{StaticResource systemMenuItemStyle}"> <!--Warning dont change the order of the following two setters otherwise the command parameter gets set after the command fires, not mush use eh?--> <Setter Property="CommandParameter"> <Setter.Value> <MultiBinding> <MultiBinding.Converter> <local:ColumnAndColourMultiConverter/> </MultiBinding.Converter> <Binding RelativeSource="{RelativeSource AncestorType={x:Type DataGridColumnHeader}}" Path="Column"/> <Binding Path="."/> </MultiBinding> </Setter.Value> </Setter> <Setter Property="Command" Value="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource AncestorType={x:Type local:ResultEditorGrid}}, Path=ColourColumnCommand}" /> </Style> </MenuItem.ItemContainerStyle> </MenuItem>

  • Silverlight RelativeSource of TemplatedParent Binding within a DataTemplate, Is it possible?

    - by Matt.M
I'm trying to make a bar graph Usercontrol. I'm creating each bar using a DataTemplate. The problem is in order to compute the height of each bar, I first need to know the height of its container (the TemplatedParent). Unfortunately what I have: Height="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=Height, Converter={StaticResource HeightConverter}, Mode=OneWay}" Does not work. Each time a value of NaN is returned to my Converter. Does RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent} not work in this context? What else can I do to allow my DataTemplate to "talk" to the element it is being applied to? Incase it helps here is the barebones DataTemplate: <DataTemplate x:Key="BarGraphTemplate"> <Grid Width="30"> <Rectangle HorizontalAlignment="Center" Stroke="Black" Width="20" Height="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=Height, Converter={StaticResource HeightConverter}, Mode=OneWay}" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" /> </Grid> </DataTemplate>

  • Need additional help with binding multiple CommandParameters using MultiBinding

    - by Dave
I need to have a command handler for a ToggleButton that can take multiple parameters, namely the IsChecked property of said ToggleButton, along with a constant value, which could be a string, byte, int... doesn't matter. I found this great question on SO and followed the answer's link and read up on MultiBinding and IMultiValueConverter. It went really smoothly until I had to write the MultiBinding, when I realized that I also need to pass a constant value and couldn't do something like <Binding Value="1" /> I then came across another similar question that Kent Boogaart answered, and then I started to think about ways that I could get around this. One possible way is to not use MVVM and simply add the Tag property to my ToggleButton, in which case my MultiBinding would look like this: <MultiBinding Converter="{StaticResource MyConverter}"> <MultiBinding.Bindings> <Binding Path="IsChecked" /> <Binding Path="Tag" /> </MultiBinding.Bindings> </MultiBinding> Kent had made a comment along the lines of, "if you're using MVVM you should be able to get around this issue". However, I'm not sure that's an option for me, even though I have adopted MVVM as my WPF pattern of necessity choice. The reason why I say this is that I have wayyyy more than one ToggleButton in the UserControl, and each of the ToggleButtons' Commands need to call the same function. But since they are ToggleButtons, I can't use the property bound to IsChecked in the ViewModel, because I don't know which one was last clicked. I suppose I could add another private property to keep track of this, but it seems a little silly. As far as the constant goes, I could probably get rid of this if I did the tracking idea, but not sure of any other way to get around it. Does anyone have good suggestions for me here? :) EDIT -- ok, so I need to update my bindings, which still don't work quite right: <ToggleButton Tag="1" Command="{Binding MyCommand}" Style="{StaticResource PassFailToggleButtonStyle}" HorizontalContentAlignment="Center" Background="Transparent" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="0"> <ToggleButton.CommandParameter> <MultiBinding Converter="{StaticResource MyConverter}"> <MultiBinding.Bindings> <Binding Path="IsChecked" RelativeSource="{RelativeSource Mode=Self}" /> <Binding Path="Tag" RelativeSource="{RelativeSource Mode=Self}" /> </MultiBinding.Bindings> </MultiBinding> </ToggleButton.CommandParameter> </ToggleButton> IsChecked was working, but not Tag. I just realized that Tag is a string... duh. It's working now! The key was to use a RelativeSource of Self.

  • How to create StackedBarSeries with custom tooltip without losing standard colors

    - by Simon_Weaver
    I have a StackedBarSeries in Silverlight 4 charting (latest release). I have created a DataPointStyle called MyDataPointStyle for a custom tooltip. By itself this breaks the standard palette used for the different bars. I've applied a custom palette - as described in David Anson's blog to the chart. However when I have the DataPointStyle set for my SeriesDefinition objects it does not use this palette. I'm not sure what I'm missing - but David specifically says : ... it enables the use of DynamicResource (currently only supported by the WPF platform) to let users customize their DataPointStyle without inadvertently losing the default/custom Palette colors. (Note: A very popular request!) Unfortunately I'm inadvertently losing these colors - and I can't see why? <chartingToolkit:Chart.Palette> <dataviz:ResourceDictionaryCollection> <ResourceDictionary> <Style x:Key="DataPointStyle" TargetType="Control"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Blue"/> </Style> </ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary> <Style x:Key="DataPointStyle" TargetType="Control"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Green"/> </Style> </ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary> <Style x:Key="DataPointStyle" TargetType="Control"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Red"/> </Style> </ResourceDictionary> </dataviz:ResourceDictionaryCollection> </chartingToolkit:Chart.Palette> <chartingToolkit:Chart.Series> <chartingToolkit:StackedBarSeries> <chartingToolkit:SeriesDefinition IndependentValueBinding="{Binding SKU}" DependentValueBinding="{Binding Qty}" DataPointStyle="{StaticResource MyDataPointStyle}" Title="Regular"/> <chartingToolkit:SeriesDefinition IndependentValueBinding="{Binding SKU}" DependentValueBinding="{Binding Qty}" DataPointStyle="{StaticResource MyDataPointStyle}" Title="FSP Orders"/> <chartingToolkit:StackedBarSeries.IndependentAxis> <chartingToolkit:CategoryAxis Title="SKU" Orientation="Y" FontStyle="Italic" AxisLabelStyle="{StaticResource LeftAxisStyle}"/> </chartingToolkit:StackedBarSeries.IndependentAxis> <chartingToolkit:StackedBarSeries.DependentAxis> <chartingToolkit:LinearAxis Orientation="X" ExtendRangeToOrigin="True" Minimum="0" ShowGridLines="True" /> </chartingToolkit:StackedBarSeries.DependentAxis> </chartingToolkit:StackedBarSeries > </chartingToolkit:Chart.Series> </chartingToolkit:Chart>

    Apologies if this is a dupe, but I can't seem to find a rational solution for what must be a fairly simple issue. <Window x:Class="FeedTest.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525"> <Window.Resources> <XmlNamespaceMappingCollection x:Key="map"> <XmlNamespaceMapping Prefix="media" Uri="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/" /> </XmlNamespaceMappingCollection> <XmlDataProvider x:Key="newsFeed" XPath="//item[string-length(title)>0]" Source="http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/uk/rss.xml" /> <DataTemplate x:Key="rowDetailTemplate"> <Border BorderThickness="2"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Image Source="{Binding XPath=media:thumbnail/@url}" Width="66" Height="49" /> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" Margin="5"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding XPath=description}" TextWrapping="Wrap" /> </StackPanel> </StackPanel> </Border> </DataTemplate> <Style TargetType="{x:Type DataGrid}"> <Setter Property="GridLinesVisibility" Value="None" /> </Style> </Window.Resources> <Grid Binding.XmlNamespaceManager="{StaticResource map}"> <DataGrid AutoGenerateColumns="False" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource newsFeed}}" RowDetailsVisibilityMode="VisibleWhenSelected" RowDetailsTemplate="{StaticResource rowDetailTemplate}"> <DataGrid.Columns> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Title" Binding="{Binding XPath=title}" MinWidth="150" Width="*" /> </DataGrid.Columns> </DataGrid> </Grid> The attached XAML gets a news feed, and displays the title of each item in a DataGrid. Selecting an item shows the RowDetailsTemplate which is where my problem lies - why does the RowDetailsTemplate expand beyond the width of the containing DataGrid (thus forcing a horizontal scrollbar), and more importantly, how do I stop it doing this? Many thanks.

  • How to bind Checked event for radio button in WPF?

I am using the following markup in WPF: <StackPanel.Triggers> <EventTrigger RoutedEvent="RadioButton.Checked" SourceName="xmlRadioButton"> <EventTrigger.Actions> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource ShowXmlPanel}"/> </EventTrigger.Actions> </EventTrigger> <EventTrigger RoutedEvent="RadioButton.Checked" SourceName="adiRadioButton"> <EventTrigger.Actions> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource ShowAdiPanel}"/> </EventTrigger.Actions> </EventTrigger> </StackPanel.Triggers> Though this works fine when I run the code, I get the following error in the designer window of VS 2008: Value 'RadioButton.Checked' cannot be assigned to property 'RoutedEvent'. Invalid event name. Any idea why, and how can I fix this?
