    Issue with apache mod proxy, it stops proxying requests after a graceful restart but not all the time. It seems to happen only on a Sunday when a graceful restart is triggered by logrotate. It's worth noting that the destination is just another vhost on the same apache instance, but the vhost (http://api.myservice.org) is serving passenger (mod_rails) I was thinking that maybe there's some startup issues with the passenger workers not being ready during a graceful restart?   • SSH stops at "using username" with IPTables in effect

    We used UFW but couldn't make the Source Dedicated ports open, which was weird, so we purged UFW and switched to IPTables, using Webmin to configure. If the inbound chain is on DENY and SSH port open [judged from Webmin], PuTTY will say using username "root" and stops at that instead of asking for public key pw. Inbound chain on ACCEPT the pw is asked. This problem didn't happen with UFW.   • after enabling mod ssl apache stops listening on port 80

    I have an ubuntu 12.04 server with zend server CE installed. I now wanted to enable https but after the first steps according to the documentation, 'a2enmod ssl' and 'apache service restart', apache does not listen on 443 but neither on 80, according to netstat -tap | grep http(s)!   • Cisco SR520w FE - WAN Port Stops Working

    I have setup a Cisco SR520W and everything appears to be working. After about 1-2 days, it looks like the WAN port stops forwarding traffic to the Internet gateway IP of the device. If I unplug and then plug in the network cable connecting the WAN port of the SR520W to my Comcast Cable Modem, traffic startings flowing again. Also, if I restart the SR520W, the traffic will flow again. Any ideas?     Cron stops running (no visible error) after a few hours when I add more than 5 jobs in my cron tab. Each job runs every minute (polls a webpage for information which takes 1 second). I tried putting all of my php jobs in a shell script and called this shell script instead but the same problem occurs. Cron stops running, no error in the log file, no error email sent out either. Anyone encountered this before? Where/how canI debug this?

    I am playing sounds in loop in my app. So it should continue playing through out the app. but sometimes it stops after playing sound for 3/4 times.I don't understand whats happening. I am using audio-toolbox framework for playing sound. creating audio queue and then playing sounds in loop. I am also playing sound from ipod library using mediaplayer. Same thing happening with song from ipod. I have set [musicPlayer setRepeatMode: MPMusicRepeatModeOne]; but still it stops after 3/4 times.

  • Windows service (hosting WCF service) stops immediately on start up

    My Question: I cannot navigate to the base address once the service is installed because the service won't remain running (stops immediately). Is there anything I need to do on the server or my machine to make the baseAddress valid? Background: I'm trying to learn how to use WCF services hosted in Windows Services. I have read several tutorials on how to accomplish this and it seems very straight forward. I've looked at this MSDN article and built it step-by-step. I can install the service on my machine and on a server, but when I start the service, it stops immediately. I then found this tutorial, which is essentially the same thing, but it contains some clients that consume the WCF service. I downloaded the source code, compiled, installed, but when I started the service, it stopped immediately. Searching SO, I found a possible solution that said to define the baseAddress when instantiating the ServiceHost, but that didnt help either. My serviceHost is defined as: serviceHost = new ServiceHost( typeof( CalculatorService ), new Uri( "http://localhost:8000/ServiceModelSamples/service" ) ); My service name, base address, and endpoint: <service name="Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.CalculatorService" behaviorConfiguration="CalculatorServiceBehavior"> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="http://localhost:8000/ServiceModelSamples/service"/> </baseAddresses> </host> <endpoint address="" binding="wsHttpBinding" contract="Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.ICalculator"/> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange"/> </service> I've verified the namespaces are identical. It's just getting frustrating that the tutorials seem to assume that the Windows service will start as long as all the stated steps are followed.   • Apache 2.2 and FastCGI stops responding, warnings, crashes

    I've seen this question posted a few times using a Google search, with no real answers. I have a multi-threaded FastCGI application running with Apache 2.2 on FreeBSD 7.2. There are a few issues with it, and I am unable to really figure out the source of the problem even after poking through a bunch of the mod_fastcgi source code. My FastCGI application gets anywhere from 2 to 15 or so hits per second, and mostly services a back-end API (the majority of web server usage is for this, and not actually serving content). Everything seems to work ok under normal conditions, but recently this problem has been becoming worse. It starts out with the FastCGI process manager apparently trying to close unneeded processes, sending them a SIGTERM signal. I catch the signal, clean up some stuff, and exit (by calling exit()) with status code 0. This process seems to result in three log messages in my httpd error log: [Tue Jun 01 14:03:31 2010] [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/home/program/wwwroot/domains/www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/program.cgi" (pid 98182) termination signaled [Tue Jun 01 14:03:31 2010] [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/home/program/wwwroot/domains/www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/program.cgi" (pid 98182) terminated by calling exit with status '0' [Tue Jun 01 14:03:31 2010] [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/home/program/wwwroot/domains/www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/program.cgi" restarted (pid 98294) I am not sure why it says it is restarting the process, but in any case no core dump is ever generated so I do believe it is the FastCGI process manager doing it's thing. This makes sense because it begins to happen after the initial load increase from restarting Apache. Since it's down for a few seconds, it gets hit with a couple of hundred requests over the first few seconds it's running again (sometimes even hitting the upper limit of MAXCLIENTS in Apache), and this seems to be the process manager doing the work of spawning more processes to handle the increased load. So this all seems fine, but here is where things get weird. There are really two problems that I see. First, my multithreaded FastCGI process spawns 25 worker threads, and all seem to be used according to my internal log files (multiple processes are clearly using multiple threads to do work). However it seems that 3 or 4 FastCGI processes is not enough to handle the 5 to 15 hit per second load, even though the requests take about .02s or so to process internally. In order to be at all responsive, it seems I need 50 or more FastCGI processes, leading me to believe that FastCGI does not realize that my program is multithreaded. I've read the documentation at http://www.fastcgi.com/mod_fastcgi/docs/mod_fastcgi.html and do not see any option pertaining to multithreaded-ness, and my internal code is more or less set up just like the examples provided by the FastCGI library. The second problem I am having is that once process termination has happened a bunch of times as above (and seemingly at random), I begin getting a lot of these messages in my error log: [Tue Jun 01 14:06:22 2010] [warn] (32)Broken pipe: FastCGI: write() to PM failed (ignore if a restart or shutdown is pending) The messages occur for about half the hits I get to the server, and it completely kills the responsiveness of my application - it seems FastCGI will look for a working "pipe" until it finds one, and fail to realize that whatever application it is trying to contact is dead. It does still work though, it's just incredibly unresponsive - sometimes taking up to 40 or so seconds to process a request. I recompiled mod_fastcgi with some extra debugging around the point of the error message, and it appears that the error happens when it tries to write() to the application. The call to write() fails with a -1 return code, and sets errno to EPIPE. I am noticing that the issue happens mostly when either a crash occurs in one of the FastCGI processes, or a bunch of them are seemingly terminated by the process manager. I haven't had any core dumps though, except for one, where the backtrace outputted by gdb is just a single call to free() at address 0x0000000000000000 with nothing else in the stack trace, so I don't really know what to make of that. I'm thinking it happens sometime after the SIGTERM signal is caught, maybe some global variable not being cleaned up properly or something.

    Here's the strangest thing I have yet to see in 20+ yrs of computer repairs. My in-laws Windowsx XP SP3 has stopped recognizing keyboards. The keyboards work fine in the BIOS, during the boot select process to boot normally, etc. but once Windows comes up it will not recognize any USB keyboard. The USB mouse works fine, have tried different USB ports, different keyboards, etc. nothing works. I can log into the machine via VNC and use the remote keyboard just fine, but not connected locally. Tried a system restore, it says nothing changed. I am about to just re-install Windoze at this point, except I am afraid it will happen again. I have googled for this and it is not unheard of, but I have not found any solution other than nuking it. Anyone have any ideas? I have re-installed the USB drivers for the M/B. Gone into devices and deleted them for a re-install, etc. Keyboard works off a Linux live boot CD, and in the BIOS setup so it is not a hardware issue, and I have tried a few keyboards all of which I know are good and work fine on other systems.

    Here's the situation: Setup: 1 Windows Server 2008 machine acting as a Domain Controller and RRAS server 1 CentOS machine in a datacentre located elsewhere PPTP client running on CentOS machine, connected to the DC via When I connect to the DC, everything is working fine. I have set up a static IP for the dialup connection in my RRAS server so that the CentOS machine is automatically assigned the IP 192.168.1.240. Inside the VPN, it is not possible to access this machine on the local IP-address. Perfect. However, after several hours, it simply seems to stop working (IE: I cannot ping to or from this machine on the local network).   • Persistent static route stops working after VPN drops and reconnects

    I've got a VPN between two networks, one home and one office (A and B). Their subnets are: (A) 192.168.1.0 and (B) 192.168.0.0 The two networks have identical ADSL routers. Unfortunately these can only do dial-out VPN. So I've got a Windows 2008 server on Network B acting as a VPN server (ServerB). Network A's router (RouterA) passes through Network B's router and connects via PPTP to ServerB. RouterA is assigned the static IP 192.168.0.40 on Network B. There's a persistent static route on ServerB telling it to use 0.40 for all requests to Network A's subnet, 192.168.1.0. (route -p add 192.168.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.40). This enables ServerB to ping all machines on A (and those machines to ping ServerB). The VPN connection occasionally drops (I'm not sure why - it's set to remain always on and seems to drop randomly). This wouldn't be too much of a problem, as it reconnects automatically and quickly, except that when it does reconnect, the static route on ServerB no longer works. Route print (on ServerB) shows that the persistent static route still exists. However a tracert to a machine on Network A doesn't use the static route; it tries instead to use ServerB's default gateway (which is RouterB), and fails to find the machine. Deleting and re-adding the static route fixes the problem - a tracert uses the static route. At the moment, a batch file to delete and re-add the static route is scheduled to run every day. But this is clearly far from an ideal solution! I hope that's not too confusing. Any help would be very much appreciated.

  • OS X Snow Leopard stops processing clicks from Wacom Intuous2

    I'm using a Wacom Intuos2 graphics tablet in OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2, which works great, 80% of the time. Every 20 minutes or so, OS X to just start ignoring input from the pen. More specifically, only the pen tip is ignored - the side buttons on the pen still work. Putting the Mac to sleep and waking it back up restores functionality to the pen tip. This is using both of the latest Wacom drivers claiming compatibility with Snow Leopard: versions 6.1.2-5 (Nov 25, 2009) and 6.1.3-3 (Jan 21, 2010). I have no experience with this tablet with other version of OS X / drivers. The tablet works 100% in Windows, which leads to blame either OS X or the OS X drivers.

  • Server 2008 R2 DNS Lockup / Stops Resolving Internet Names

    We've deployed our first 2008 R2 server on a client site which has replaced their existing 2003 DC. This server provides DNS resolution services to all client machines on that site for general internet usage. Since using the 2008 R2 DNS services we have noticed every couple of days the DNS server starts timing out when requests to certain sites are made (google is the only example I can provide at this time although it seems to be larger sites with problems rather than small - CDN compatiblity issue?). When you restart the DNS Server service then resolution returns to normal... just only for a day or so. Is anybody aware of any significant changes to the DNS server architecture or configuration out of the box in R2 that may explain this intermittent behaviour?     I am installing W7 Ent on an LG R580. I am working with a valid ISO (installs perfect on other systems). During the installation, before the installation window, the process hangs, and I get a black, cmd.exe screen with the following: Select Administrator: X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] with a prompt for: X:\windows\system32 My keyboard at that time only prints capital letters with '^' before each. Only thing that I am able to do is reboot. In the bios, I tried to disable USB Legacy ( thinking the problem is with my DVD ) - did not help.

    I have two Windows Server 2008 SP2 machines (TFS and TFSBUILD). Periodically, the TFSBUILD server shares (\TFSBUILD\ShareName or \TFSBUILD\C$) become unresponsive to requests from Windows Vista (Server 2008) and Windows 7 client requests. Windows XP machines are still able to connect. No events in the server log indicate any problem. A simple restart corrects the issue temporarily, but it always returns. No, it is not this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976266 (we aren't using that software). All anti-virus software has been disabled, firewall is disabled by policy. No other network activity is affected. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Sometimes for no reason that I can observe my Synaptics touchpad will stop responding to scroll the scroll function (I swipe my finger down the right side). I then have to reboot to get it back. Does anyone know how to fix this? Preferably without upgrading the driver - I upgraded the driver before and it turned out to be crap. I don't want to do that again.   • WT-NMP - PHP-CGI randomly stops running with no error log

    We have recently installed WT-NMP and are currently running Php-Cgi with php 5.4.24. We are running fairly simple php scripts and when testing everything is running fine. Over the weekend we wanted to keep the server running test it over a longer period of time. The server and scripts ran fine all day on Friday, but sometime late on Saturday, the php-cgi stopped running. There are no errors in the error log (C:\WT-NMP\log). In the configuration (php.ini) I have the following options set: error_reporting = E_ALL display_errors = On display_startup_errors = On log_errors = On html_errors = On error_log = "c:/wt-nmp/log/php_error.log" We also have the standard nginx.conf error logs: access_log "c:/wt-nmp/log/nginx_access.log"; error_log "c:/wt-nmp/log/nginx_error.log" warn; So, since the log directory is empty, I am assuming that the running php scripts and general nginx operations are not causing the php-cgi to stop. So my questions are: What else could cause the php-cgi to stop running? Are there any other options for logging that we could turn on that could help us track this down? Are there other log locations that we should be looking at? Thanks!

  • Dlink DIR-615 suddenly stops working - Orange internet light

    I unplugged my Dlink DIR-615 router last night from the wall due to a storm rolling in. I've done this countless times, no problem. However, when I went to plug it in and use the internet today, nothing. Check everything, cycled everything. Hard reset the router, nothing. The little globe on the front is red/orange, and it should be green. Windows gives me an error of a "DNS Issue", and the internet works when connected directly to the modem. How can I fix this issue? Why would it suddenly stop working?
