  • Newly configured MSSQL2008, TIME_WAIT but no ESTABLISHED?

    Windows 2008 R2, standard. No firewall locally on it. Newly setup because an old SQL2000 had two disks die (or could it be the raid controller?) at the same time. Luckily, I had fresh backups. The databases have been restored, and SP2 for SQL2008 applied. I can see various hosts trying to establish a session, but the (customer) sites does not work and I don't see the expected established sessions. A wireshark reveals a full three-way handshake. Since it's customer machines connecting, I cannot logon to them and restart application pools.. What on earth could be causing this?   • What's the advantage of synchronizing UID/GID across Linux machines?

    Before I plunge into the depths of how to synchronize UID's/GID's across my different Linux machines, I would like to know what is actually the benefit? I know that this keeps file synchronization relatively easy (as ownership is "naturally" retained). However this can also be achieved otherwise depending on the transmission service. Is there anything else that would benefit from consistent UIDs/GIDs?

  • Wifi network stopped being visible (and usable) (Linksys wag320n)

    Basically, my wifi network simply stopped working for no apparent reason. It doesn't appear in the list of the available networks anymore. I can see all my neighbors' networks, but not mine. It's as if it doesn't exist anymore. The internet connection (non-wifi), which goes through the same modem/router, is fine though. I already had a similar problem about one year ago (see here: Wifi network SSID not visible ), just after buying this very modem. I finally got it to work after performing two factory resets and getting rid of the Cisco "Magic" software; but this time it's not working. I use a linksys router-modem (WAG320N) which is directly connected (via network cable) to my desktop computer (Windows 7). I have (mainly) two devices that use the wifi network: my phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus) and an Asus tablet (TF201, aka Transformer Prime). I also resurrected an old laptop computer (Dell, running Windows XP) to test that, and it doesn't see anything either (apart from the 20 other wifi networks, of course ^^). This wifi network was working just fine and has been for about a year. I haven't touched the modem settings so I have no idea what's causing the problem. I tried: making my phone "forget" about my network, hoping it would see it again after that: no luck. re-entering the network informations (SSID/password) manually on my phone: still no luck (says it's not in range) exporting the modem configuration, resetting the modem (factory reset, via modem admin), restarting it, importing the configuration: nope. factory reset, turning it off for 15 minutes, restarting, re-factory reset, and entering the configuration manually: still nothing. Has anybody experienced something similar before? Have you any suggestion to fix that? Thanks in advance.   • Deluge bit torrent. No incoming connections?

    Hi I keep getting a no incoming connections on my Deluge. I know this is a pretty common problem from Google, but I have posted here to see if any one knows why this happens. I have port forwarded my router and set Deluge to the correct port range. Is this just a bug ? It does not seem to affect the speed so I obviously do have incoming connections and Transmission says the ports are open. So I guess my question is why is this happening ?

  • Teamviewer in notification area only

    Hello, I was wondering if there was a simple way to close Teamviewer to the notification area like I would close Skype? EDIT: Just to clarify my initial post, I want to enable Teamviewer in the notification area so that I can close it in my open programs bar (click on x), and it would still be running in the notification area (Skype does that, I can option Banshee and Rythmbox to do that, and Transmission does this too). AllTray puts it into the notification area, but the x still closes Teamviewer completely, and I have not found an optional setting in Teamviewer either.     I'm looking for (free) Ubuntu YouTube software that can perform two tasks (could be separate software): display on screen notification (like transmission does when a download has finished) when a new video has been uploaded to your personal subscription box download videos in max quality (preferably automatically once a new video has been uploaded from specific channels / series) What I've found so far: All Video Downloader: only downloads manually, can't select quality MiniTube: Doesn't associate with your personal account, doesn't notify when new video has been uploaded from your subscriptions. Annoying GUI. Quite buggy. If this software doesn't exist yet, I'll try to make it myself.

  • Updates broke my themes/shell [Ubuntu 12.04 running Gnome 3 ]

    I am running gnome-session 3.4.2.1. After the latest updates (listed below) my theme regressed to what looks like tango - not sure. Am unable to change it using Gnome-tweak tool or the display settings. I am also unable to change the wallpaper. Here's what it looks like: Synaptic: Chromium and this is the wallpaper page even though I have selected the wallpaper, it actually does not change. This same problem occurred on my personal computer, and one other computer I have, all running the same software/config. The interesting thing is that while Gnome 3 and Unity are affected, Cinnamon is not. What I've done so far: purged and re-installed both gnome 3 and Unity- no change noted. So, how do I fix this?   • Turning off XON/XOFF when SSHing via PuTTY

    I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 on a rented dedicated server. When I ssh to it using PuTTY (on a Windows machine), I find it responds to Ctrl+S and Ctrl+Q as XON/XOFF transmission control (i.e. the terminal freezes everytime I type Ctrl+S until I type Ctrl + Q). This hasn't been a problem on other remote servers, and I realise I don't really have much idea about how this is determined. Is this something that is negotiated at the start of the terminal session, something that is set by the choice of terminal emulation (TERM=xterm, if that helps) or - as I suspect - some setting on the server I am not aware of. How do I tell Ubuntu that it is 2011, and no-one has terminals that rely on XON/XOFF any more?

  • In regards to applet games and UDP

    I've got about a year in Java experience, and would like to set up a server and client for an applet game. However, there doesn't appear to be any tutorials out there on anything like I want to use. I would the server to be able to store an array of x and y coordinates with a player name somehow associated to them, and send them to multiple clients in a short time span. I would like the client implemented in the applet, and be able to request any player's position data. I'd like to use UDP, because it seems to be the best option for efficient (if less reliable) transmission of data. If anyone could give me some pointers on how to do such a project, or point me to an appropriate tutorial, I'd certainly appreciate it.

  • How to create a minimal installation in VMware Player for browsing?

    I am trying to build a minimal vmware image to use for private browsing (also called a browser appliance). I have tried using images for other small linux distros, most of them are either too heavy (I do not want any other functionality than browsing and downloading) or outdated (DSL, various browser appliance images at vmware official site). I have downloaded the minimal Ubuntu install image (12MB) and was hoping to select only the needed pakcages while installing but it was not asking for my choices anywhere. I am new to the command line installation and I would be thankful if someone could point out how to install only needed packages, and what are the bare-minimum packages to browse internet (I plan to use only firefox and transmission)

  • BizTalk FTP - File Rename

    Hi I need to send files using the BizTalk 2006 (non wcf) FTP adapter. After successful transmission of each file it needs to be renamed from an "A" prefix to a "U" prefix. I don't want to issue a command using wildcards because I can't be sure of other files in the destination folder. Any ideas? Thanks Rob.

I have always done data serialization in php via its serialize function, usually on objects or arrays. But how is wikipedia's definition of marshaling/serialization takes place in this serizalize() function?

    The only reason I can think of is that calculating ETag's might be expensive. If pages change very quickly, the browser's cache is likely to be invalidated by the ETag. In that case, calculating the ETag would be a waste of time. On the other hand, a giving a 304 response when possible minimizes the amount of time spent in transmission. What are some good guidelines for when ETag's are likely to be a net winner when implemented with Django's CommonMiddleware?
