  • Issue updating domain name servers from BlueHost to AWS

    I am trying to migrate my site hosting from bluehost to AWS cloud based service. I have the site up and running on AWS with an elastic IP configured, it loads fine when I specify the IP address in the browser. I have gone into Route 53 on the AWS console and created a "hosted zone" for the domain. I then created a new record set of type "A" using the IP address as the value. I have a domain name registered with bluehost. Ive logged into the bluehost account and updated the domain name servers to point to those specified in Route 53 in the AWS console. When I hit the IP address directly the site loads, however it doesn't load when using the domain name (I get a google chrome oops error page saying page is not found) I've tried using this site: http://dns.squish.net/ to debug but it seems to be giving me the correct results. fizaclegems.com 300 IN A 107.20.209.78 Where 107.20.209.78 matches the elastic IP configured in the AWS console. This is the result it gives for all 4 name servers. Am I missing a step here? Does anyone know what else I should be doing or looking for?

  • Can't use ubuntu 12.04 , after pc crashed while updating

    few days ago while ubuntu 12.04 was doing a common system uodate , my laptop turned off in the middle of process , due to bad ac power. Since then , i can only login but nothing else. A message about compiz appear , but mouse keyboard , icons , unity are not working. the only thing i was able to do is a boot-repear ,as discribed in ubuntu's site, but neither this helped. Hope you can help me. thanks!

  • Battery died when updating from 12.04 to 12.10

    I started the update and went to sleep but I forgot to plugin AC adapter. When i woke up, laptop was off. I plugged in the AC cord and turned it on. Ubuntu boots and it is on 12.10 but may items are missing and neither gnome nor unity seem to work properly. It's also very slow and freezes sometimes. Is there a way to correct all those issues ? or revert back to 12.04 then re update to 12.10 without losing my data ?

    I have an old system. It doesn't have a DVD drive, and I think the cd drive is a bit wonky. The only disk that I have been able to get to install is an old (official) 8.04 Kubuntu disk. No disk that I've burned on a few systems works. They check out, but they don't seem to survive the install (another issue). I thought once I got a version on that I could update over the web, but no luck. It appears EOL. No updates seem to be available, or software to install. Is there a way? I'd like to get it to as new a version as possible. The next step would be to pull the drive and get a new one, but I'd rather not.

  • Updating to linux-image-3.2.0-26-generic occupies all disk space

    I just ran a normal update through the update manager that wanted to update me to linux-image-3.2.0-26-generic. The installation paused halfway with a message that the root was full. I checked the disk usage, and noticed that one of the newly installed files: /lib/modules/3.2.0-26-generic/modules.ccwmap took up 63GB(!). Compared to the previous version: /lib/modules/3.2.0-24-generic/modules.ccwmap that took up only 4KB it seems like something went awfully wrong! As mentioned the update was paused when i ran out of disk space. There is no option in the update dialog to cancel or perform rollback on the update. Is it asking for trouble to kill the update manager? Any ideas as to what went wrong, and what I can do to remedy it? It's only minimal how much space I can free on that partition (without deleting the above mentioned file). If it is any help, the update was paused after this: Examining /etc/kernel/postinst.d. run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms 3.2.0-26-generic /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-26-generic

  • Can't access external USB storage after updating to 12.10

    I installed Ubuntu 12.04 after Windows failed me and Samsung got a bit pissy about providing any help. I then upgraded to 12.10 after a week or two and suddenly my external USB devices no longer work. The same devices I plugged in are no longer recognised. As I say, I'm only a user of Ubuntu for a fortnight, so any advice and directions to very simple instructions, would be appreciated greatly. I've seen this asked elsewhere, but the advice was to ask again if you needed clarification.

  • Synchronizing (updating) published files

    How can I update a published file and maintain the same URL? After saving an update of a published file on my desktop, it will automatically "synchronise" with the corresponding files at UbuntuOne (and it does). Problem is that the "new file", actually the updated file with the same name, is no longer published. Pressing the publish button results is a new URL. I now have to mail new URL's and change embedded links, as old URL will result in a failure to find the updated file (or indeed any file). I am not sure if it is a bug or a design flaw (maybe intentional?), but it seems strange to me.

  • Getting a VMnet0 error in VMWare workstation after updating host computer from Windows 8 to 8.1

    Yesterday, I updated my computer from Windows 8 to 8.1. I have VMWare Workstation 10 running Windows XP on this computer and prior to the update I had no issues connecting to my network. However, since updating, I haven't been able to connect to any network and I'm getting the following error: "The network bridge on device VMnet0 is not running. The firtual machine will not be able to communicate with the host or with other machines on your network. Failed to connect virtual device Ethernet0" I've checked all of my settings which currently have my network adapter set for a bridged connection and under device status "connected" is checked. Not really sure where to go from here, but after doing some research I have seen that others users have reported getting this error when updating the OS (any OS, not windows 8 specifically) of the host computer. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

    I have a few question regarding updating the drivers on my Lenovo T410. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed with a 32 bit(X86) sub directory. I'm not that familiar with updating drivers on 64bit Windows so I'm wondering if I should install both 32/64 bit driver versions instead of just 64 bit. Another question I have is Lenovo specific. On the support page for my device, there is a list of Windows updates available dating back to 2009, however I do have ThinkVantage update manager installed and it checks for Windows updates weekly. Should I install all of the Windows specific updates, or can I rely on update manager? My last question is if I should install the drivers for the T410 in any specific order? Any help is much appreciated as I haven't been able to find answers to these specific questions here, or by googling. Thanks in advance

    I am using the latest Wordpress and I have always had issues with the automatic updater. For the files in the wordpress directory, i set them to permission 770, and add the webserver user 'www-data' as the group owner. I use lighttpd. However, the automatic updating plugins or installing plugins does not work. It works if I chmod 777 the files or if I set the actual owner to the web server as well. What are the best permission settings for security while still allowing the updating feature to work properly in wordress? Also, by 'not work' i mean, it will go to the screen that asks me for FTP credentials when I try to update.

    i know it's for ubuntu questions..but mint and ubuntu are very similiar and i had the same problem with linux ubuntu too..so i think this is the right place for my question anyway i don't have experience with drivers and other things,after installing Linux on my machine( i did dist-upgrade btw) everything seem to be great because i didn't have to install any driver, after a while i realized that my connection stop after few minutes(actually it shows that I'm connected but it's not) so i have to reconnect and after few minutes it disconnect again. I'm using Alfa USB wireless adapter AWS036H, and my Linux version is 11 i think the driver i'm using is Realtek i searched in the Internet and i found nothing. these are some outputs of few things   • Updating Samba From RPMs

    My Red Hat Enterprise Edition 4 comes with Samba Version 3.0.10, which does not have support for the "inherit owner" attribute that is essential in implementing a Deny-Delete Write Once Read Many share (for examples, search google for a-shared-drop-box-using-samba). (BTW, if any body knows an alternative way to do it without updating samba, I'm all ears!) I am not all that comfortable building from source, and after hours of googling (no, I do not have a red hat subscription, so I cannot just run the up2date command), I found a whole bunch of rpms on http://ftp.sernet.de/pub/samba/tested/rhel/4/i386/ (Samba 3.2.15 for RHEL 4)... Next, I tried updating them with the rpm -U --nodeps command, but I got file conflict errors. So I went ahead and overwrote everything (or so I thought) by using the rpm's --force option. But no good has come of all that. /usr/sbin/smbd -V still returns the old version. As of now, rpm -qa | grep samba returns, samba3-client-3.2.15-40.el4 samba-3.0.10-1.4E.2 samba-client-3.0.10-1.4E.2 system-config-samba-1.2.21-1 samba3-3.2.15-40.el4 samba-common-3.0.10-1.4E.2 samba3-winbind-3.2.15-40.el4 I cannot remove the older ones because samba-common >= 3.0.8-0.pre1.3 is needed by (installed) gnome-vfs2-smb-2.8.2-8.2.x86_64 libsmbclient.so.0()(64bit) is needed by (installed) kdebase-3.3.1-5.8.x86_64 libsmbclient.so.0()(64bit) is needed by (installed) gnome-vfs2-smb-2.8.2-8.2.x86_64 Now thats a whole bunch of dependencies that I dare not touch :) Any and all pointer are welcome at this stage.   • Windows Update not updating

    I've enabled automatic updates but windows cannot update itself automatically, nor updating via Internet Explorer (by visiting http://www.windowsupdate.com/) works. I get this error message in event log: Unable to Connect: Windows is unable to connect to the automatic updates service and therefore cannot download and install updates according to the set schedule. Windows will continue to try to establish a connection. What could be wrong? A malware?

  • recently used programs stopped updating Vista Home Premium 64

    For some reason my list of recently used programs has stopped updating. Any program that I "pin" to the start menu remains, but where you would normally expect to see the recent programs is just blank space. What setting do you think could have changed? I don't recall changing anything. Thanks! edit Start MenuProperties Privacy "Store and display a list of recently used programs" is indeed checked.

  • Virtual Machine Library not updating

    Hi, I have a problem with my library window. I use to have a XP VM, which I deleted and now have a Vista VM. Every time I start Fusion, the XP VM shortcut will still be in the library (File not found), and the Vista VM won't be. I have tried re-installing Fusion but the same XP shortcut keeps coming up. Fusion doesn't seem to be updating the list of VM I currently have for some reason. Any ideas? Lots of thanks Jeremy

  • To update or to not update?

    Since starting working where I am working now, I've been in an endless struggle with my boss and coworkers in regard to updating systems. I of course totally agree that any update (be it firmware, O.S. or application) should not be applied carelessly as soon as it comes out, but I also firmly believe that there should be at least some reason if the vendor released it; and the most common reason is usually fixing some bug... which maybe you're not experiencing now, but you could be experiencing soon if you don't keep up with . This is especially true for security fixes; as an examle, had anyone simply applied a patch that had already been available for months, the infamous SQL Slammer worm would have been harmless. I'm all for testing and evaluating updates before deployng them; but I strongly disagree with the "if it's not broken then don't touch it" approach to systems management, and it genuinely hurts me when I find production Windows 2003 SP1 or ESX 3.5 Update 2 systems, and the only answer I can get is "it's working, we don't want to break it". What do you think about this? What is your policy? And what is your company policy, if it doesn't match your own?

  • Updating from svn repository returns "Could not read chunk size" error

    When updating from subversion repository using tortoise svn client I get error looking like that: Could not read chunk size: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. It doesn't prevent me from updating, just interrupts update process, so that I have to repeat update several times, before it is complete. What can cause such behaviour and how to fix it?

  • Preventing a confirmation pop-up when updating fields in Word

    In Word 2007, an obvious candidate for updating all the fields in a range is myrange.Fields.Update But if the range is the element of ActiveDocument.StoryRanges corresponding to the footnotes, endnotes or comments, this triggers a confirmation pop-up “Word cannot undo this action. Do you want to continue?” What is this pop-up telling me about? How do I get rid of it (if it's not important)? An obvious workaround is to iterate over the fields and call each field's Update method. It doesn't fire up that question.   • why is mailgraph not updating ?

    I just installed mailgraph on a Linux Ubuntu 10.04 box monitoring Postifix. Everything seems to be working fine, but the graphs are not always updating. When I refresh the web page or close the browser and come back later, the graph updates and moves to the left, showing new time, the the data line is not drawn. Sometimes it does not update for several hours. I had started, stopped and restarted mailgraph-init and that doesn't seem to make a difference. Any ideas?
