    Hi, On OS-X (PHP5.2.11) I have a file: siësta.doc (and thousand other with Unicode filenames) and I want to convert the file names to a web-consumable format (a-zA-Z0-9.). If I hardcode the file name above I can do the right conversion: <?php $file = 'siësta.doc'; echo preg_replace("/[^a-zA-Z0-9.]/u", '_', $file); // Output: si_sta.doc ?> But if I read the file names with scandir, I've got strange conversions: <?php $files = scandir(DIRNAME); foreach ($files as $file) { echo preg_replace("/[^a-zA-Z0-9.]/u", '_', $file); // Output for the file above: sie_sta.doc } ?> I tried to detect the encoding, set the encoding, convert it with iconv functions.   • C#, UTF-8 and encoding characters

    This is a shot-in-the-dark, and I apologize in advance if this question sounds like the ramblings of a madman. As part of an integration with a third party, I need to UTF8-encode some string info using C# so I can send it to the target server via multipart form. The problem is that they are rejecting some of my submissions, probably because I'm not encoding their contents correctly. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how a dash or hyphen -- I can't tell which it is just by looking at it -- is received or interpreted by the target server as ?~@~S (yes, that's a 5-character string and is not your browser glitching out). And unfortunately I don't have a thorough enough understanding of Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes() to know how to use the byte array to begin identifying where the problem might lie. If anybody can provide any tips or advice, I would greatly appreciate it. So far my only friend has been MSDN, and not much of one at that.

  • Building a DVR system for use with custom windows application (video analytics)

    Is there a good PCIe DVR capture card that has at least 4 channels as well as the hardware encoding? It would have to have decent driver support in Windows xp or windows 7. I have looked at various video capture cards as well as an integrated video capture card/motherboard from Huperlabs. But so far I have not found one with a decent review and that has good driver support that I can verify. A really small card would be nice because I am trying to get a fairly small form factor. Huperlabs stuff is pretty awesome but they are slow to get back to me and they bundle their analytics software with the hardware (extra cost for nothing) The dvr is being used for security.

    Is there a table that shows what is necessary for streaming video on demand? Specifically what I'm trying to do is stream Video on Demand to 50-100 people. I'm flexible with the format, but I'd like text on the screen to be legible (i.e. not 320x240). If someone knows of a calculator or something that would let me figure out exactly how I need to structure my video and ISP that'd be handy too.

    I want to transfer video from a VHS tape to my computer with Arch Linux, using a USB capture device that comes with Roxio Easy VHS to DVD, which I recently bought. I tried to plug in the device, and it was properly recognized.     Description I have a big (7.4G) .mkv file (1080p) which I want to convert to H.264 (using x264) Problem MediaCoder and GSpot are unable to detect the codec. They don't display anything. Just that the file is a matroska Container Video with a MIMEtype of video/x-matroska. No bitrate, profile etc. But the source tells me that is VC-1 encoded. Question So how do I encode this file. as in, using what encoding software, since MediaCoder has failed.

  • 500 MB Avi video from CD lagging/glitching when reproduced

    I created an extra cd with Nero Burning that contains both audio tracks (I can hear them correctly) and a .avi presentation (pretty big one, 540 MB on a 700 MB cd). The audio is fine but the problem is that when the video is played from the cd (with whatever media player: Windows Media Player, VLC, etc..) it lags/glitches/stutters. I'd like the video to be smooth, how should I burn the video to reduce this effect? I mean: what kind of compression/format and why?

    Previously we were running a Wordpress site on a Mac OS Server machine. We had several hundred images with Chinese characters for the image names. Now we're trying to migrate to a Ubuntu system and everything is fine except the images. Every time I try to upload an image with a Chinese name via FTP, I get the following message: "MyImage contains illegal characters. Please choose an appropriate text encoding" I have no idea how to solve this issue, do I need to somehow change the system language encoding in Ubuntu to allow for image uploading? Thanks

CSS and JS) are made and saved in UTF-8 encoding In PHP, I set the char-set on top of the main page (this page includes all others) with: header('Content-type: text/html; charset=utf-8'); In the same page I have this html meta tag: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> Then I stubled upon an external css file that has this on first line: @charset "UTF-8"; And now I wonder, should I set the charset INSIDE all my CSS/JS files too, like that? And/or should I serve each file with charset=utf-8 in the meta tag?

    Some video files from another partition or volume does not display in some video displays but display on another and crashes on others. Seem to play on these video players: vlc smplayer gnome-mplayer Seem to have some issues in these video players: totem -some videos are play while others not banshee -some videos are play while others not bangarang -few videos are play while others not and it crashes and happens also in home folder of filesystem dragon player -crashes and seem not to display any video and happens also in home folder of filesystem Why this happens? Is this a bug? On ubuntu 11.10, every video display play all the video from another partition or from home filesystem.

  • Video playback not working in Ubuntu 11.10

    (Ubuntu 11.10, Gnome Classic with Compiz, Nvidia graphics card) This problem occurs with every and all video, whether it's a Youtube video in Firefox, an AVI file in movie player, or any other video. Video simply does not work. When I start any kind of video, the image halts after a second or two. The sound, however, continues. Before it seemed that if I delete all the files in ~/.gstreamer-0.10/, then reboot, the video will play. However this is no longer the case. Manipulating files in that directory does nothing to help the situation. I am now no longer sure this is a gstreamer issue or something else. I am open to any and all possibilities. How can I get video playback to run smoothly on my machine?

    I am trying to piece together the mysterious string of characters â?? I am seeing quite a bit of in our database - I am fairly sure this is a result of conversion between character encodings, but I am not completely positive. The users are able to enter text (or cut and paste) into a Ext-Js rich text editor. The data is posted to a severlet which persists it to the database, and when I view it in the database i see those strange characters... is there any way to decode these back to their original meaning, if I was able to discover the correct encoding - or is there a loss of bits or bytes that has occured through the conversion process? Users are cutting and pasting from multiple versions of MS Word and PDF. Does the encoding follow where the user copied from? When Unicode data is inserted into one of these non-Unicode data type columns through a command string (otherwise known as a "language event"), SQL Server converts the data to the data type using the code page associated with the collation of the column. When a character cannot be represented on a code page, it is replaced by a question mark (?), indicating the data has been lost. Appearance of unexpected characters or question marks in your data indicates your data has been converted from Unicode to non-Unicode at some layer, and this conversion resulted in lost characters. So this may be the root cause of the problem... and not an easy one to solve on our end.

    Hi, I am experiencing some weird encoding behaviour in my ASP.NET MVC project. In my Site.Master there is <div class="logo"> <a href="<%=Url.Action("Index", "Win7")%>"><%= Html.Encode("Windows 7 Tutoriál") %></a></div> which translates to the resulting page as <div class="logo"> <a href="/">Windows 7 TutoriA?l</a></div> However, in the Index.aspx there is <h1> Windows 7 Tutoriál</h1> which translates correctly on the same resulting page. I do have <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> as my first line in <head>. Locally, both files are saved in UTF-8 encoding. Any ideas why is this happening and how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

  • Digitize video?

    I got some movies on a VCR that i want to move to my computer somehow. (for personal use) I have a video capture card and all hardware required. I'm looking for the software - programs, codecs etc. I like the format that most torrents come in and got some of these i'd like to use as reference for comparison. How can i see what codec, bitrate, etc a movie is using so i can pick this and know that it will work and look good. For AVI-files the bitrate is visible in explorer but it doesn't mention the codec used and i also have a lot of MKV-files that explorer can't handle. All kinds of tips, tricks and other suggestions are welcome. This is completely new to me. How do I avoid that video/audio gets out of sync for example, many movies you download have audio out of sync so i guess this can happen quite easily. The encoding-program has to run on windows and for playback the movies should work on at least VLC for windows.

    Possible Duplicate: How do I hard code a movie with subtitles? I am looking for a software (or combination of software) that will allow me to hard burn subtitles from an .srt file, that has italics and bold typefaces, to an H.264/AVC encoded video so it can played from a desktop player that can't display external subtitles correctly. Ideally it could use Directshow as input as DirectVobSub makes nice job showing the subtitles as they should (allowing me to globally adjust font and size). CUDA use, to speed up encoding, will be great but not necessary. Video source is also H.264/AVC encoded. Audio is AC-3 5.1 and should be retained too but I have no problem re-muxin it later as long as it keeps synced.     Ok, I have a hardcoded string I declare like this name = u"Par Catégorie" I have a # -- coding: utf-8 -- magic header, so I am guessing it's converted to utf-8 Down the road it's outputted to xml through xml_output.toprettyxml(indent='....', encoding='utf-8') And I get a UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 3: ordinal not in range(128) Most of my data is in French and is ouputted correctly in CDATA nodes, but that one harcoded string keep ... I don't see why an ascii codec is called. what's wrong ?
