• Which Qt4 Widgets whould I be using? [closed]

  I'm using Qt 4 to design an IDE but I'm having a hard time with the GUI design. On the left side I want to put a widget that shows the files on the current project and on the left side a similar one but with the classes, methods, etc... Which widget should I use the Tree view or the tree widget? Also, I want to have a tab widget in the center with a text edit and this items the tree widgets and the tab widget to move and resize according to the window size. How can I accomplish this?

• Are you satisfied with your programming? [closed]

  If you are a programmer, are you satisfied with it? I really love to code. I code all kinds of things. I used to play computer games but they are not that interesting compared to developing a new search algorithm or similar. But sometimes I look into the future and see myself being 80 years old, sitting in front of a computer and everything I will have written will be rewritten because the programming languages do not exist anymore. I look back on my life and think "that's it?". Everything I wrote in the past is virtual and ultimately gone. I tried other things but coding is the only thing that does it for me. And at the same time I think I am wasting my life. What about you? Disclaimer: I presume this is the best forum for this question. If you don't agree suggest better place to migrate the question. • Question about initial interview for job [closed]

  So I feel kind of stupid having to ask this but tomorrow I have a phone interview with a good company. Phone interviews themselves not a big deal for me, but having to tell them my salary expectations is. The position that I'm applying for is a mid-level software engineer, I fit all of the requirements (I'm not overly qualified by any means), and I want to be sure I'm not asking for an amount that would be absurd or too little. Now, assuming I get a second interview and have to complete some sort of puzzle/code/work, they may pay me +/- whatever I asked for based upon their evaluation of my work. What I'd like to know, is what is a good amount to ask for? Or am I completely wrong with my assumptions? Either way some advice would be much appreciated!

  I created a application for a client that is along the lines of a ticket tracking system. I wanted to know if anyone know of software that could beta test the web forms. Well I am looking for something that could automatically populate/fill whatever forms are on the web page with generic data. The purpose of this is to just randomly populate data and see if I get any errors on the page when submitted plus to also see how validation for the form functions. Does anyone know of anything that could do this?

  I'm a moderately experienced developer with experience developing using a variety of languages. I've done C++, Java, PHP, Javascript, and several other languages. I remember the Java dev stack being rather difficult to dive into, but it's nothing like the endless sea of the .NET framework. I'd like to become experienced in .NET development, as many dev shops are microsoft-centric. But I'm a little unsure as to where the best place to start is. As I already know a bunch of programming languages, I don't really need resources that will help me learn C# or any of the .NET languages as much as I need to learn the development stack, APIs, etc. Any suggestions on the best way to start learning .NET development?

  I have websites that needs an SEO expert to make them on the top of Google searching result based on some keywords, or at least the first page, the websites are created using common open source platforms (wp, joomla, or magento, zencart) I want to post a job on oDesk but I have no idea on how this particular type of requirement works? what would the guy do on my website? will I be asked to spent extra advertisement money? How do I know s/he really did anything on my site and what have been done? if it's just to optimize URL to make it meaningful then I don't need that, and I am sure giving every page's URL an alias is not enough to make the site popular.   I´ve to make an offer to a client who wants me to develope a web-service for him. I have some trouble calculating the pricing - can you help me? Here is a rough outline of the project: It´s a portal on which various artists and entertainers can register and administrate there profile (texts, gallerie, some embedded videos, choose categories and radius of offer, etc). Other user can browse the artists by 3-4 level categories and countries/staats. If someone wants to hire a artists, he can put them in an "shopping-basket" and can mail everyone in his basket. The Artists can answer them with a form on the website (he doesn't get the email of the other person). Users should be able to comment/rate the artists. But if an artists wants this comments/ratings visible on his profile he must pay, and after that, the admin of the site must activate this comments/ratings. So, no more information given, what would you charge (ca.)? Edit: It´ll be developed with php/codeigniter. A .psd design is already there.

• Good quality Secure Software Development Training [closed]

  Just had my annual appraisal and found out my company is willing to pay for training and exams etc! Woohoo (they kept that one quiet). I'm interested in doing a course on secure development techniques. Has anyone got any suggestions for good quality distance learning courses in secure development (I could probably get a couple of days off to attend a conference/ course if required)? We're mostly an MS .Net house but I have no particular allegiance to MS or any other programming language (though, obviously, C++ is the best language in the world). I have 12 years development experience working in (what are now) PCI:DSS environments, including designing and developing a key management system and I have some knowledge of basic attacks (XSS, injection etc). I would prefer a hard course I struggle with to a basic course I learn 3 things from (but hopefully get something right at my level). • Ubuntu can't shut down correctly [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Problem with ubuntu 12.04 I am new to Ubuntu. I've installed 12.04 version of Ubuntu. It works fine but sometimes when i shutdown my PC from Ubuntu and when I try to start it again,nothing shows on the screen. It's always black screen instead of Acer logo (I have Acer aspire 5573) and the system restart again and again but and doesn't allow me to choose a OS (Ubuntu/windows,i use dualboot) To fix this I have to remove the battery and put it again.Then everything works fine. How do i fix this issue? I think that could be a incompatibility with the PC because everything works fine with windows. Thanks!

  Possible Duplicate: How do I report a bug? discovered 2 bugs:: 1)cannot restart the computer when you click the top right icon power key "restart", it will stay on the splash image "ubuntu...",i wait for about 7 minutes and more, it also cannot restart, so, i have to uninstall the battery of the laptop...... 2)when i first update to the 12.10,not run for few hours, the "input method icon" on the top state bar is suddenly hide, when i use the shortcuts to switch the input method with "ctrl +space" it doesn' work at all, i restart the laptop, it can change the input method, but the state icon "a small keyboard icon is escape, i goto the "i bus" settings, but when i how to adjust it, the icon still can't display on the top bar (now i reinstall it use the iso file, this bug is fixed, but it cannot restart like the former one) it must has some problems of the "i bus" input method

  I want to start new project customCms, cause I think it's a good starting point to implement my collected knowledge from c#, ddd, nhibernate, mvc3, js. It will be great if I hear some guidlines from expirienced users here. I will use C# ASP.NET MVC3 razor view engine. Also I was thinking of NHibernate ORM, I dont know if using Nhibernate will cause performanse down. Initially MSSQL 2008 will be used, but using ORM layer cause that I can switch to some other db with no pain. I was thinking to create News entity which will have properties Id Name Created Updated IntroText Content Title Author ListPhotos Every input will be validated with untroub. java script on the view, and it will be validated on db level as well. Maybe it is best approach to create some interface which will be implemented by my cmsClient entity like NewsEntity. In this interface will be included everything it should be requested from my client in future. At least some stuff which are not included in entity right now, consumed data by rss feed, wcf, etc. So basically everything you think its good idea from documentating project, to coding. Everyone is welcomed to brainstorm for custom cms.

• Lubuntu does not render font accurately [closed]

  I'm experiencing a weird bug, which I don't see to be able to track down to anything in particular.... Sometimes, Lubuntu won't display entirely a letter or two of the font used system-wide. I attached a screenshot of the last occurrence of the problem, where the affected letter is t. Any idea on what is causing it? And even better: any idea on how to fix it? PS: My Lubuntu installation is pretty much a stock one. I installed some additional software like "kupfer", "tilda" or "alsamixer"... but - as far as I remember - I did not tweak in any way the LXDE settings...

I've tried using velocity.x = velocity.x * cos r, velocity.y = velocity.y * sin r where velocity is a vector and r is the angle rotated. but it's not moving in right direction.   I have a VB system that utilises VBA and MSWord 20078. I have a few problems that I am hoping you solve for me. I need to search for a string in a Word 2007 document and then pickup all characters into a VB Variable from that string to the next carriage return inclusive. I will then manipulate the contents of the VB variable. When I find the search string I need to know what section of the document I am in. Once I have these two pieces of information I then need to continue to the next occurrence of the search string and repeat my functionality. Once I have dealt with the last occurrence of the search string I need to know that so that I can exit the process. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

A common problematic scenario I can think of is that with the use of a WYSIWYG, an editor uploads an image "somewhere" to the file-system, inserts it directly into the text, and publishes the article. Shortly afterwards, someone wants to pull out "The last 10 uploaded images", and display them on the frontpage. Good luck parsing all the content.   Possible Duplicate: How do you dive into large code bases? I have worked as a developer developing C/C++ applications for mobile platforms (Windows Mobile and Symbian) for about six years. About a year ago, however, I changed job and currently work with large(!) enterprise systems with high security and availability requirements, all developed in Java.   Music Player, just like Web Browsers are an important part of today's application repertoire, and not only for entertainment reason. Having tried a few Linux Player over the past years i come to wonder, which Players you prefer and what kind of Players are out there, that you suggest are worth looking into and why!! I used Rhythmbox for a long time, but "Jamendo and Magnatune" plugin are both no longer available in 11.10 and also my covers are not shown, since i stream my music folder from a second partition. aTunes is another great Player, but there are also some flaws which i contacted the developers about.
