• New Java ME security app, Rapid Tracker, is now full version

- by hinkmond
Rapid Protect has updated it's Java ME security app to be the full version now instead of a dumbed down version that ran on feature phones. Now, that's progress! See: Full Rapid Tracker on Java ME Here's a quote: Rapid Protect, a leading company focused on mobile based safety, security and collaboration space announces major feature enhancements to its award winning "Rapid Tracker" mobile applications. In addition to many new features, it announced availability of Full Rapid Tracker application on J2ME non-smart feature phones. Hmmm... "on J2ME non-smart feature phones". I wonder if by "non-smart" they mean another word... Perhaps, "non-iDrone-Anphoid"? Hinkmond

• New windows from the dock in Gnome Shell

- by Andrea
I am using Gnome Shell on Ubuntu 11.10, and I frequently use workspaces, as the shell encourages to do. My only complaint is that it is slow to place different windows of the same program in different workspaces. What I would like to do: click on an empty workspace, click on the Nautilus icon in the dock and browse to the correct folder. Then click on another empty workspace, click on the Nautilus icon and so on. This does not work: the second time I open Nautilus, the dock lets me switch to the previous instance, which is almost never what I want. So I have to click on the Nautilus icon, open a new window, place it on a different desktop, switch to that folder and finally browse to the correct folder. Is there a way to simplify this flow? It would be even better if I was able to link a specific folder from the dock, or better yet to have something similar to a Unity lens, where I can choose between the most used folders.

• Social is the new search

- by John Flyn
before you read my question, I want to let you know that you have the freedom to delete or migrate this question. I know it probably doest not belog here, but I could not find any stackexchange site that I could ask this. ok. So, what does this "social is the new search" mean from a webmaster/dev standpoint? Does it even make sense? Or is is just some marketing BS. I'm trying to wrap my head around this, and it is just not clicking. And hearing the word "social" makes me wanna throwup sometimes. thanks in advance.

• Windows: starting sqlplus in new window from cygwin bash

- by katsumii
When I start sqlplus, more often than not, I want it to start in new window, whether it be on Linux/Solaris GNOME or Windows.I seldom use GNOME so I never bothered to figure out how.On Windows, one can use Windows menu or Win+R "Run" dialog but I prefer usingbash. Because, this way, I can keep the history in ~/.bash_history file. There are 2 ways. Using cmd.exe or cygstart. For example, to start default sqlplus.exe to connect to default local instance. $ cmd /c "start sqlplus sys/oracle as sysdba" 2nd example. To start sqlplus in 2nd Oracle home and to connect to non-default local instance. $ ORACLE_SID=orcl cygstart /cygdrive/g/app/product/11.2.0.3/dbhome_1/BIN/sqlplus scott I hope this tip helps reducing your DBA time.

• Making a new instantiated prefab as a child for existing GameObject

- by Akari
I've been searched about how to make these fruit to move as the basket movement if it collided with it, and I've been found that if I want to perform this I've to let these fruit to be a child to the basket game object .. for example : banana.transform.parent = basket.transform; banana and basket each of them of type "GameObject" ... BUT unfortunately this way didn't work !! and I don't know why ?? So now I need to know if it is possible to destroy the banana if a collision with the basket happened and instantiate a new banana in the basket as a child at run time ?!! I need to try this stupid way because I've tried all the other ways and nothing worked :(

• Microsoft Office 2013 Takes New Approach

You can check out an article from Computerworld for a good look at the questions and answers about the new software. For instance, you've probably noticed that I'm not giving the full name. That's because Microsoft seems to be using several names. If you go the traditional route and pay the one-time upfront fee for the shrink-wrapped edition, it's Office 2013. There's also a tablet version called Office Home and Student 2013 RT - but that won't include the iPad, or at least not at first. The consumer preview, which I'll be linking to in a minute, is dubbed Office 365 Home Premium. There ...

• April 25th Online Forum -- Oracle Solaris 11: What's New Since the Launch

- by Larry Wake
It's been a few months since we released Oracle Solaris 11, so we thought it was time to check in and let you know how things are going. On April 25th, at 9:00 PT, we'll host an online forum, featuring Markus Flierl, the VP for Solaris core engineering, as well as engineers, customers and partners. During the forum, Markus and his crew will give an update on the release, recap Oracle's OS strategy, and give you a peek at what the engineers are working on for future updates. I think one of the more interesting parts of this event will be the chance for some of our customers to share why they've moved to Oracle Solaris 11 and what benefits it has already given them. We'll also have an online chat, so you can ask Solaris engineers any questions about what you've heard, or other thoughts you've had. It should be a worthwhile event -- hope you can join us. Online Forum: Oracle Solaris 11: What’s New Since the LaunchApril 25th 9:00 a.m. PDT – 11:30 a.m. PDTRegister today!

• new installation won't sync directories with my account

- by barrydrake
I had a dual-boot arrangement on my desktop with 12.04 and 12.10 (testing). Last week, I managed to trash both and ended up re-installing both. After doing all the updates, I activated Ubuntu-one which worked just fine on the previous installations. On both 12.04 and 12.10, the Ubuntu-One window fails to show the folders for syncing and only syncs the Ubuntu-One folder. Adding a folder on my net book on which sync is working properly brings up a pop up on my desktop that tells me a new folder is available for syncing - but the Ubuntu window fails to show it. I have put a screenshot from my net book (working OK) and one from my desktop which shows the problem. Any suggestions please?

• Check Out The New Search Helper For 'Adpatch' Utility

- by LuciaC
Have you seen the new Search Helper for problems and documentation relating to the 'adpatch' utility? Check out the details in Doc ID 1502809.1. The Search Helper presents you with a wizard-like interface where you select the task you are attempting, the symptoms or errors you are hitting and arrives at a targeted list of solutions based on that information. This is a simple and quick way of searching for any issues that you are having with adpatch. How to use this tool: 1. Select the intent or task that is failing. 2. A list of known symptoms (or facts) associated with the task will display under the section "In addition the following occurs". 3. As you select symptoms the solutions section will populate (and change as you select or deselect).

• Can't get whole picture on the screen of a new monitor

- by Gillian
I have a 24inch, VM2453mh-LED, Viewsonic monitor using a Radeon 6570HD video card. Both are new. Viewsonic says the optimum size is 1920x1080. At this size the picture is beautiful, but it overlaps the screen vertically and horizontally. I am using Ubuntu 11.10, the Gnome 3 version, not Unity. On the Overview screen, the vertical icons are nearly off screen. Only the right edge shows. I opened the monitor's control menus to see if I could adjust it, but both the H/V Position and Horizontal Size are grayed out. I tried a 1600x1200 setting, and the picture was in bounds, but the quality was less, and it was stretched horizontally. The two monitor menu options were grayed out just like with the 1920x1080 setting. Can someone tell me how to resolve this problem?

• New CodePlex Project–SPDeployRetract

- by PointsToShare
I have just finished a new CodePlex project named SPDeployRetract. This is a sophisticated PowerShell script that allows you to to deploy solutions and InfoPath forms with ease. It is especially beneficial because once you set up the instructions in the xml input, you can repeat the process in farm after farm without error. The script also allows for easy retraction. You may always retract the last deployment by setting the instructions to do so. This is possible because every action taken is recorded and old versions of each WSP are backed up for redeployment. Look it up in: http://spdeployretract.codeplex.com/ That’s all Folks!!

• Where can I get fresh new Wine DLLs?

- by SuperScript
I was acting careless today and I accidentally deleted one of the .dlls in my Ubuntu Wine installation, ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/ole32.dll to be exact, and need a new fresh copy of only this one .dll. I know that reinstalling will fix it, but I have installed quite a few programs and do not want to have to do such a drastic thing just to fix this one problem. So, I'm wondering if there is somewhere that I can download this original .dll as it came with my original Wine installation. I have found the SourceForge repository, but it only has .h and .c files and I do not know how to build them into a .dll. Can anyone give me a link to download, or instructions to build my missing .dlls?

• Only sdb shows up when installing 12.04 on new Dell inspiron 14z

- by Jan Korpegård
I got my brand new Dell Inspiron 14z yesterday, but failed to install Ubuntu. I can boot from a USB stick, and it works well. When trying to install, I confirm that the laptop is connected to the internet etc (as in the 2nd picture in the installation guide: How do I install Ubuntu?). When pressing "Continue" I do not get the question on installation type (alongside/replace/something else). Instead I get a window where I can select partitions: // Picture removed due to low reputation... The problem is that I can only select sdb in the drop drop down box, and I can do do nothing with sdb (like adding partitions etc). The main disk (sda) is partitioned using Gparted the following way: // Picture removed due to low reputation As far as I understand from other threads on askubuntu, this should work... What can I do to install Ubuntu alongside with Windows 7?

• Gnome-classic, new windows remain buried behind other window

- by Naten Baptista
This is my first question on this forum. I have recently moved from ARCH Linux to Ubuntu 11.10. I switched to using Gnome-Classic and noticed strange behaviors with the windows whenever I open them. I have setup Launchers on the Panel to launch Dolphin, Terminal and Chrome Browser. Whenever I launch any of these I notice that they open behind the current window that is in-focus instead of coming up in front. According to me any sane windows manager would by default bring up the new window in front and focus, I mean why would you want to open a window hidden behind all other window??? Is there any thing or configuration that I need to check as this problem is driving me nutts . Thanks in advance

• Must all new features go through betatest?

- by LTR
Obviously, small usability fixes and bugfixes go directly into the stable product. What about small new features? Can you afford to just release them after internal testing, or do they have to be betatested by customers first? Situation: This is a young commercial project, produced by a one-person company. It has an existing userbase and is at it's second major version. Previous betatests have produced some results, however most feedback came from the stable product and not from beta versions.
