  • What is appropriate for creating a booking system?

    I need a booking system for a theoretical project website. It would be an in-house job (not outsourcing to a web service) but all google searches on the subject yield results for said web services. I'd want to be able to use the system as such: For each day, there is availability recorded and if available a user can book in using the website, which sets that date to unavailable. There are other complexities, but this is the basic system I am trying to achieve - what would allow me to implement something like this?

  • update-grub2 not finding windows7 partition..

    I have Ubuntu10.10 x64 and after installing Windows 7 grub dissapear I log on with my usb to reinstall grub and now grub only shows Ubuntu... Then when I try to do update-grub2 I get this: root@Alienware:~# sudo update-grub2 Generating grub.cfg ... Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-22-generic Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.35-22-generic Found memtest86+ image: /boot/memtest86+.bin ls: no se puede acceder a /var/lib/os-prober/mount/boot Boot: No existe el fichero o el directorio done root@Alienware:~# It is in spanish but it says it cant get access to /var/lib/os-prober/mount/boot and that Boot: dosent exist.. I dont know what I am doing wrong can someone help me please?

What should I do when admin/editor clicks on Delete user link? Should I redirect him to new yes/no confirmation page or display some jquery popup window? Should I then redirect him to the home page and display message 'The user has been successfully deleted from the system', or simple redirection should be just fine?

    I want to auto mount all my partitions on startup. But i can't get it to work as i'm new to xubuntu.   • Upgrading a dual-boot system HDD

    I dual-boot my laptop due to lousy VM performance, and have a new 500GB/7200rpm drive coming in to replace the stock 320GB/5400rpm drive. I have the drive set up in three partitions: one for the Win7 system files, one for storage, and the third as the ext4 Linux file system. The system file and storage partitions are both NTFS. What I'm planning to do is use the system image creator built in Win7, then move that over to the new drive. However, how can I migrate the Ubuntu partition, and how do I make sure that the Grub bootloader isn't overwritten by the Windows loader?

    I'd like to update to 11.04 from 10.10 (but I don't like upgrading system, I prefer full reinstalling) I'd like to install whole new system, but I want to keep my /home folders (Music, Movies, Documents and so on). If I keep /home while installing - this will keep all my program settings too (but I have lots of trash there too, and 'd like to clean it too). Can I delete all .folders in /home and then reinstall system (keeping old /home) ?

  • Not recognized as operating system on startup

    I am new to Ubuntu and just decided to install it in (on my new lenovo thinkpad) in addition to my windows 7 operating system. Now, whenever I reboot the computer, it only runs window 7. I went (in windows) to Control Pannel ? System ? Advanced Settings ? Startup and Ubuntu is not even listed as a choice for operating system. I tried installing ubuntu again, but now it wants to partition the already partitioned windows folder. I can't figure out how to get Ubuntu, which seems to be installed, to run. I saw on another question here that I could be able to edit my mrb settings using EasyBCD but I can not figure out how to choose ubuntu as an operating system. My disk is already partitioned (seen from the attempted second install) so I'm pretty sure it is on the disk. Basically, how can I get ubuntu to run when I can't choose it as an operating system? Thank you for your help.

  • cannot log in to all account except guest after mounting new partition

    I really really need help. to do my homework from school, since two days ago, I was installing oracle 11g on my ubuntu. through that process, there was lots of problems also, but searching a lot, in somehow I could go to the next phase installing it. (because it was the first time to install on ubuntu by myself..) but when I was making password for oracle and clicked next, it says there are not enough space for home/oracle folder, So to make another space, I mounted another space after checking Gparted and using Software device management, I mounted it. And when I rebooted it, since then, I cannot log in to my own administrator account and even to oracle account(that I made for oracle 11g on ubuntu ) when I type the passwords for it, it seems to work but it redisplay the first page to log in, without really logging in it.. So I loggined to here as guest account... and even I cannot try gnome console manipulation to restore or fix it.. because it is guest account... I`m struggling for three days and... help me, how do I need to do? and at the time oracle said it needs enough space for its home folder, how I should have done?

  • Defcon totally screwed up my system!

    I'm using Ubuntu 12.04. Downloaded and ran a game called Defcon, by Introversion Software, and then my display problems began! At first, my smallest monitor stopped receiving input. Then, when I exit the game, still no input & I look at the 'Display' System Settings menu and it is off. I try switching it back on, and my system totally crashes. I restart my system, and try two more times at switching it back on, before I go back to basics and switch mirroring on before switching that monitor on. Now I've switched mirroring off, but if I set the resolution for my largest monitor above that of my other monitor, my system crashes! What the heck! Does anyone have a solution to my problems?

  • Cannot boot into Ubuntu after installing Ubuntu 12.04 (with Windows 7 on another partition)

    I just installed Ubuntu on my desktop which had Windows 7 installed on it. When I restart the machine after completing the installation, It directly loads windows, I don't see the grub menu. I tried using boot-repair using the LiveCD (both recommended fixes AND fixing the MBR), it did not help. What am I missing? I have done this at least 5 other times, on different machines, and have never faced this issue before.

  • Where should I create my DbCommand instances?

    I seemingly have two choices: Make my class implement IDisposable. Create my DbCommand instances as private readonly fields, and in the constructor, add the parameters that they use. Whenever I want to write to the database, bind to these parameters (reusing the same command instances), set the Connection and Transaction properties, then call ExecuteNonQuery. In the Dispose method, call Dispose on each of these fields. Each time I want to write to the database, write using(var cmd = new DbCommand("...", connection, transaction)) around the usage of the command, and add parameters and bind to them every time as well, before calling ExecuteNonQuery. I assume I don't need a new command for each query, just a new command for each time I open the database (right?). Both of these seem somewhat inelegant and possibly incorrect. For #1, it is annoying for my users that I this class is now IDisposable just because I have used a few DbCommands (which should be an implementation detail that they don't care about). I also am somewhat suspicious that keeping a DbCommand instance around might inadvertently lock the database or something? For #2, it feels like I'm doing a lot of work (in terms of .NET objects) each time I want to write to the database, especially with the parameter-adding. It seems like I create the same object every time, which just feels like bad practice. I've had about 8-10 university courses on programming from data structure, to one on all languages, to specific ones such as java & c++. I'm a bit rusty because i usually take 2-3 month breaks from coding. This is a personal project that I started thinking of two years back. Okay down to the details, and a specific question, I'm having problems with my mutator functions. It seems to be that I am trying to access a private variable incorrectly. The question is, am I nesting my classes too much and trying to mutate a base class variable the incorrect way. If so point me in the way of the correct literature, or confirm this is my problem so I can restudy this information.   • CentOS 5.5 ext4 conversion problem - ext4 partition is recognized as ext3

    Hello. I had 5.4 machine. Upgraded to 5.5 today via yum upgrade. All went fine. Rebooted. Wanted to convert root partition to ext4 (I have three partitions: /boot, / and swap). All of them on software RAID 1 (root is /dev/md2). I did the following for converting yum install e4fsprogs tune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index /dev/md2 nano /etc/fstab # I indicated here that my /dev/md2 is of ext4 uname -a mkinitrd -f /boot/initrd-2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.img 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5 Rebooted. I expected fsck to start automatically as said on some site. But it did not. Threw some error (don't remember exactly which). Ok, I booted linux rescue and executed fsck: fsck -t ext4 -fy /dev/md2 Partition went fine. But still when I boot main system, it says in log: "ext3-fs:" then something about not being able to mount ext3 partition due to unknown extended attributed (200). I booted linux rescue again. It loads fine and correctly determines all my machine partitions both ext3 (boot) and ext4 (/) under /mnt/sysimage just fine. I retried mkinitrd thing again watching it's output and ensured ext4 module is included into the system. I also edited menu.lst grub file to include rootfstype=ext4 kernel parameter. Bad luck. I still have message from ext3-fs about not being able to mount filesystem because of attributes and kernel panic immediately after. I checked /etc/fstab - it's fine and saying that root is of ext4. What did I do wrong? This machine is empty so I can just reformat it with 5.5 and recreate partitions to be originally ext4. But... I just want to know what did I do wrong.

  • Windows system restore deletes various executables and *.js files. How does it decide which files to delete?

    I restored my system from a Windows System Restore point. It solved some issues I was having, but introduced other strange problems (like my optical drive disappeared). One thing that surprised me was several files from my Web2Py installation were deleted: the executables and *.js files; possibly some others (like favicon.ico). I did not expect this because Web2Py is basically a portable, standalone application. You just unzip it and run the executable inside, so nothing should be registered with Windows. My question is: what files does Windows system restore delete, and how does it decide this? I'm just wondering what other files I'm missing and if there's a way to get restore them (without rolling back the restore point). Perhaps it scans for certain files types (like exe, js, ico, dll) with a creation date that was after the restore point creation date?
