• How do I edit git's history to correct an incorrect email address/name

  When I started using git I just did a git init and started calling add and commit. Now I am starting to pay attention and I can see that my commits are showing up as cowens@localmachine, rather than the address I want. It appears as if setting GIT_AUTHOR_EMAIL and GIT_COMMITTER_EMAIL will do what I want, but I still have those old commits with the wrong email address/name. How can I correct the old commits?

• Can I delay selection of a file name?

  XP SP3 I have my system set up so that I do not need to double click on an item to open it. However, I find that items are selected when I move over them swiftly. This is a problem when I want to save a file and inadvertently pass over another file name. It immediately gets selected. Is there a way to delay this selection for, say, a second so that they are not selected so quickly? Thanks. Regards,

• Trying to configure DNS on a Godaddy Virtual Dedicated host, Mediatemple Domain Registration [closed]

  A client of mine purchased VD hosting with Godaddy and a domain name with Mediatemple. I've never configured DNS from scratch, and I'm finding it very difficult to find any sort of explanation on how to go about it. As of right now, Mediatemple is pointing to the Godaddy's ns1.domaincontrol.com and ns2.domaincontrol.com nameservers. The VD hosting on Godaddy (via their Simple Control Panel) has options to "Add a new domain", which brings you through a wizard of sorts that asks you if the domain has already been registered (yes), what it is (dclowd9901.com for this example), create a system username and password for it (with checkboxes for SSH and FTP access), which level of user can administer it, and whether a mail account should be setup. When complete, it also creates a zone file. In this zone file, the Primary nameserver is ns1.dclowd9901.com; the records are as follow (where 12.23.12.34 is the presumed host): @ A 12.23.12.34 @ NS ns1 @ NS ns2 ns1 A 12.23.12.34 ns2 A 12.23.12.34 @ MX mail www A 12.23.12.34 ftp A 12.23.12.34 ssh A 12.23.12.34 mail A 12.23.12.34 If anyone can shed any light on this for me, explain to me the interactions between the registrar and the host and so on, I'd be very grateful. • How do I set up DNS with nic.io to point to an AWS EC2 server?

  I purchased a domain one week ago via nic.io. I have elected to provide my own DNS [because they provided no other option]. I'm trying to point my .io domain at my EC2 server instance. I've allocated an elastic IP and associated it with the instance. I can SSH into the instance and access point 80 via the IP address just fine. The IP is 54.235.201.241. nic.io support said the following: "You have selected to provide your own DNS and therefore if there is an issue with the set-up of the name servers you will need to contact your DNS provider." So, I created a Hosted Zone via Route 53 in AWS. This created NS and SOA records. I then set the Primary and Secondary servers at nic.io's domain admin page to the SOA record domains. Additionally, I set the optional servers to the NS domains. I did this two days ago, and I can't access the server via the domain. I ran a DNS check here...still not sure what I need to do: http://mydnscheck.com/?domain=chadjohnson.io&ns1=&ns2=&ns3=&ns4=&ns5=&ns6=. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. Does anyone have any ideas?

• How do I find information about a particular trojan? "W32/Smalltroj.XVGT", as reported by Norman

  I tried checking the Norman antivirus page, Virus-descriptions, but sadly it seems Norman has intentionally obfuscated their search results (I tried clicking on W, and it seems they just list viruses with a W somewhere in the description, instead of more typical, all viruses with a name starting with a W.) Is there a common virus-list somewhere, or is it as I suspect, every antivirus manufacturer is free to come up with their own identification tags for each virus? Several "vshost32.exe" files, related to Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, has been quarantined on our server today, probably related to a test-deployment of some internal software. Some developer machines that have grabbed that latest version of our program has also had the same files quarantined. Now, these files should not have been deployed in the first case, so I'll be looking into that, but whenever any developer now builds a program locally and attempts to debug, the same file is placed in the build output directory, and promptly quarantined. Does anyone have any clues as to how I can go about verifying this before I pointedly ask the antivirus software to go take a hike on this particular virus? Edit: I've copied one of the quarantined files manually to a machine over the network that doesn't have antivirus installed, and compared the file on that machine with a local copy (on that machine) of the vshost32.exe template file, and they're bit-for-bit identical. I guess this is a false positive. I still would like to know if it would be possible for me to verify this in any other way though, since next time such a trojan might be reported in a compiled file that we won't have a pristine copy of.

• Using Round Robin DNS on simple VPN setup

  We have two internet connections which are load balanced to share the load between the two. We set this up after one of the internet provider proved to be less than reliable but great speed and latency wise when it is working. We'd rather utilise both connections as much as possible rather than leave one idle until the other drops out. We have a number of remote workers who occasionally need to connect via VPN from their laptops or iPads, we also have a small number of permanent LAN to LAN tunnels running from smaller branches. Originally we only had one internet connection and used one of our static IP addresses for all VPN users. Now that we have two internet connections running all of the time I am trying to make sure that the VPN is available to our team regardless of which connection drops. So my solution is to create two A records for our domain name with a value of vpn. and the two static IP addresses from each peer. Is this a sensible way of achieving this? Should I expect higher latency due to packets being lost if one peer fails and some packets still get routed to it anyway? A brief mockup of the setup I have:

• Suggestion regarding pointing domains to a dedicated server.

  I recently got a dedicated server and I am still at a learning stage. So please bear with me. I wanted to have 3 domains pointed to my server, but initially I asked them the process to point me one and they responded with: Hello, I can set that rDNS for you. Please make sure the domain is pointed to our name servers at godaddy. They are: ns1.xxxxx.net ns2.xxxxx.net After this is done, please allow up to 24 hours for global propagation. Alternatively, we can host your DNS for you if you prefer. What is the domain you would like xx.xxx.xx.xx to resolve to? I then asked him to point one of my domains. They responded, Did you want us to host your dns for that domain or just an rDNS record? They also said, Hosting your DNS is a free service here. We can only do 1 domain per IP. IF you would like to purchase additional IPs, they are $1/IP per month. I personally dont want to host DNS myself. Neither mail server. I have a single IP so far. It will then start to get expensive if I want to host 25 from these guys. I am still in the trial period. Does this seem reasonable as far as pricing goes? If I want to have some one host DNS and mail server, this is getting super expensive. Email hosting from rackspace starts at $2 per mail address, but from then on, its the same if you want added features such as archiving etc; What would you suggest I do if I am on a shoe string budget but I also want to avoid hassle of doing it myself and I only have 3 domains so far and I would need few mail addresses for each of them.

  I'm working on installing django and running it on my system. I have a problem though, in this tutorial creating a project is explained by running the command django-admin.py startproject mysite My issue is that this doesn't work. I changed to the directory where django-admin.py is located and ran the command chmod +x django-admin.py with no results. I tried adding the directory with the file to my path without results. I ended up fixing my problem with this command python /location/of/django-admin.py startproject mysite which yielded the outcome I expected. My problem is: What do I need to change/configure such that command django-admin.py startproject mysite would be sufficient?   I am having major issues sending from my SBS2011 machine to Message labs server-13.tower-134.messagelabs.com #553-Message filtered. I am not on any IP or domain blacklists. • DNS with name.com and Amazon S3

  I have a website on a bucket in Amazon S3, and recently started to get emails from Google "Googlebot can't access your site". When I go to Webmaster Tools and I try to fetch in fact it doesn't work. Also people in locations different from mine sometimes reported they could not access the website. • Some domain names not resolving on local network

  I am not really sure where to start with this one... I have a small network setup with some linux servers (Ubuntu 11.04 Server). 2 servers are running BIND 9 (NS01, NS02), they are configured as master and slave respectively. 1 server is running Zimbra ZCS 7.1.1 (MX01), it has a private BIND 9 server running to achieve a split DNS configuration. This DNS server does not interact with the other two, it forwards queries it can resolve to the other 2 that is it. No zone transfers. Zimbra is hosting 3 domains at the moment, solignis.local, solignis.com, campbellsurvey.net. The problem From with in my network I cannot connect to mail.campbellsurvey.net. When I mean I cannot connect, I mean if I open firefox and type https://mail.campbellsurvey.net I go nowhere, the address is supposed to connect to my Zimbra webmail. But it goes nowhere, the odd thing is if I try the same task from outside of the network it brings the website up like normal. If I try to create an account in thunderbird to connect to the same server using IMAP4 or POP3 I get an error saying that thunderbird cannot find the domain name. Even the zimbra client fails too. It is like from with in my own walls that campbellsurvey.net does not exist. But if step outside I can get it work with no problem at all. I had thought maybe the problem was with the DNS server (BIND 9), so just to eliminate it as a possibility I configured a windows server I use for VMware VCenter as a DNS server to see what would happen. The result was the same, its like something is preventing connections to those domains, but I have checked various firewalls and such. I checked port forwards, etc. So I am running out of ideas I know this is not a lot of information to work from and I can give more details about certain things as needed. I am just trying to figure out what could be going wrong. Any help you could offer would be much appreciated.

• LVM / Device Mapper maps wrong device

  Hi, I run a LVM setup on a raid1 created by mdadm. md2 is based on sda6 (major:minor 8:6) and sdb6 (8:22). md2 is partition 9:2. The VG on top of md2 has 4 LVs, var, home, usr, tmp. First the problem: While booting it seems as if the device mapper takes the wrong partition for the mapping! • How to make Amazon EC2 not cause SSL invalid error in browser

  I use SSL certificate for a web site I set up in Amazon EC2 Machine Instance. The SSL certificate is for one domain name, which is not public DNS for the Amazon Machine Instance. The browser always complains the mismatch in the domain name because it compares the domain name of the SSL certificate to the Amazon public DNS. How can I set up not to cause this problem? I tried both domain name forwarding and A Record setting. Maybe it's because I'm not so familiar with Amazon EC2 and I haven't configured domain name correctly. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

So I add one line into /etc/audit/auditd.rules: -a exit,always -S stime -S acct -S reboot -S swapon However, after I restart audit.d by service auditd restart: There is error comeout: Stopping auditd: [ OK ] Starting auditd: [ OK ] Syscall name unknown: stime There was an error in line 14 of /etc/audit/audit.rules It seems stime can't be recognized.   I have a Amazon Web Services (AWS) Relational Database Service (RDS) instance running SQL Server 2012 Express. I've installed Amazon's aws.amazon.com/rds certificate in the client machine's Trusted Root Certification Authorities store. However, when I connect to the RDS instance (using SQL Server Management Studio 2012) and check off "Encrypt Connection", I get the following error: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The target principal name is incorrect.) (Microsoft SQL Server) What does this mean, and how can I fix it? Thanks!

• Assigning static IP and domain name mapping to local server in LAN

  I have developed a web application which will be deployed in a LAN environemnt. Clients will be Computers/Android Tablets/IPAD In order for communication between client and local server 1) need to assign a static IP to local server. 2) need a domian name mapping for that IP address in Local environment. 3) router should assign the same static IP if it gets restarted etc. I am using a windows XP machine as Local server OS. Do i need to take care of router configurations before buying one, or all routers will have same capability to perform this task.
