  • Trying to get WCF client to work with wss 1.0 username token security

    - by darius murauskas
I am trying to use a WCF client to call a third party web service. The web Service usses username token authentication WSS-Security 1.0 Soap Message Security Here is a sample soap authentication header for what the web service expects <soap:Envelope xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"> <soap:Header> <wsse:Security soap:mustUnderstand="1"> <wsse:UsernameToken namespaces> <wsse:Username>username</wsse:Username> <wsse:Password Type="type info">password</wsse:Password> <wsse:Nonce>nonce</wsse:Nonce> <wsu:Created>date created</wsu:Created> </wsse:UsernameToken> <wsse:Security> </soap:Header> <soap:Body> <WebServiceMethodName xmlns="Web Service Namespace" /> I configured the client to the following way <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="Binding1"> <security mode="TransportWithMessageCredential"> <transport clientCredentialType="Basic"/> </security> </basicHttpBinding> but recieved an error that stating that the nonce and datecreated attributes were missing in the header. Does anyone know how to configure a WCF client to work with WSS-Security 1.0 Soap Message Security username token authentication?

  • Sanitizing incoming XML via WCF

    - by Clark
I am consuming a Java webservice from .net using WCF. I am getting an error on deserialization of a response from the Java service The byte 0x00 is not valid at this location. Line 1, position 725. I know from some research that this is an incorrectly encoded null, but I am unlikely to get the provider to change it, so I would like to sanitize the null out before WCF deserializes the return message. Any Ideas? I am using c#, but answers in any CLR language will do.

  • WCF service - HTTP500

    - by ilkin
Hi guys, I need help with wcf service. i have a ajax-enabled wcf service: public class AddFavorites : Page { // Add [WebGet] attribute to use HTTP GET [WebGet(RequestFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json)] [OperationContract] public void AddFavorite() { this.AddMyFavorite(10, "sometext", "sometext"); } } And clientside looks like this: function AddFavorite() { $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "/WebServices/AddFavorites.svc/AddFavorite", data: "{}", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "json", cache: false }); }; Im using fiddler to trace the application and i always get HTTP500. The class is inherited from Page class and uses the AddMyFavorite method that takes care of database. Website is hosted on iis7

  • c# (wcf) architecture file and directory structure (and instantiation)

    - by stevenrosscampbell
Hello and thanks for any assistance. I have a wcf service that I'm trying to properly modularize. I'm interested in finding out if there is a better way or implementing the file and directory structure along with instanciatation, is there a more appropriate way of abstraction that I may be missing? Is this the best approach? especially if performance and the ability to handle thousands of simultanious request? Currently I have this following structure: -Root\Service.cs public class Service : IService { public void CreateCustomer(Customer customer) { CustomerService customerService = new CustomerService(); customerService.Create(customer); } public void UpdateCustomer(Customer customer) { CustomerService customerService = new CustomerService(); customerService.Update(customer); } } -Root\Customer\CustomerService.cs pulbic class CustomerService { public void Create(Customer customer) { //DO SOMETHING } public void Update(Customer customer) { //DO SOMETHING } public void Delete(int customerId) { //DO SOMETHING } public Customer Retrieve(int customerId) { //DO SOMETHING } } Note: I do not include the Customer Object or the DataAccess libraries in this example as I am only concerned about the service. If you could either let me know what you think, if you know a better way, or a resource that could help out. Thanks Kindly. Steven

  • What is a good pattern for binding a collection of objects coming from WCF, in Silverlight?

    - by Krishna
Hi there, I've got a question about a Silverlight WCF Databinding pattern: There are many examples about how to bind data using {Binding} expressions in XAML, how to make async calls to a WCF service, set the DataContext property of a element in the UI, how to use ObservableCollections and INotifyPropertyChanged, INotifyCollectionChanged and so on. Background: I'm using the MVVM pattern, and have a Silverlight ItemsControl, whose ItemsSource is set to an ObservableCollection property on my ViewModel object. My view is of course the XAML which has the {Binding}. Say the model object is called 'Metric'. My ViewModel periodically makes calls to a WCF service that returns ObservableCollection. MetricInfo is the data transfer object (DTO). My question is two-fold: Is there any way to avoid copying each property of MetricInfo to the model class - Metric? When the WCF calls completes, is there any way to make sure I sync the items which are in both my local ObservableCollection and the result of the WCF call - without having to first clear out all the items in the local collection and then add all the ones from the WCF call result? thanks, Krishna

  • WCF: Use a Message Contract to make a Soap Header

    - by Vaccano
I need to add a soap header to my web service. I plan to use this to validate my clients (Windows Mobile Devices). I found this link: http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadFile/rog_21/soapheaders05172007120046PM/soapheaders.aspx Which is exactly what I want to do. But it is not written for WCF. I have done some research and I seem to be paralyzed by the number of options. I basically want to add a simple header to my soap object that will be a user name and password. The client does not use WCF, so the soap header needs to just be a normal soap header. Any Sample code or shoves in the right direction would be appreciated.

  • WCF method that updates object passed in

    - by Georgia Brown
    Am I correct in thinking that if I have a WCF OperationContract takes in an object and needs to set a property on that object so the client gets the update, I need to declare it to return the object. e.g. given a datacontract: [DataContract] public class CompositeType { [DataMember] public int Key { get; set; } [DataMember] public string Something { get; set; } } this will not work with WCF: public void GetDataUsingDataContract(CompositeType composite) { composite.Key = 42; } this will work: public CompositeType GetDataUsingDataContract(CompositeType composite) { composite.Key = 42; return new CompositeType { Key = composite.Key, Something = composite.Something }; }

  • Posting from JQuery to WCF Service

    - by Villager
Hello, I have a WCF Service (called "myservice.svc") that takes a message from a user and saves it to the database. It returns a response to the user in the form of a number. This operation looks like this: [OperationContract] [WebGet] public string SubmitMessage(string message) { try { // SAVE TO DATABASE return "1"; } catch (Exception ex) { return "0"; } } I want to call this operation from some JQuery. I'm using the approach shown here: $.getJSON( "/services/myService.svc", {message:"some text"}, function (data) { alert("success"); } ); Oddly, the "success" alert is never displayed. In addition, I have set a breakpoint in my WCF service and it is never being tripped. What am I doing wrong? Thank you

  • How to validate HTTP request headers before receiving request body using WCF

    - by anelson
I'm implementing a REST service using WCF which will be used to upload very large files. The HTTP headers in this request will communicate information which will be validated prior to allowing the upload to proceed (things like permissions, available disk space, etc). It's possible this validation will fail resulting in an error response. I'd like to do this validation prior to the client sending the body of the request, so it has a chance to detect failure before uploading potentially gigabytes of data. RESTful web services use the HTTP 1.1 Expect: 100-continue in the request to implement this. For example Amazon S3's REST API can validate your key and ACLs in response to an object PUT operation, returning 100 Continue if all is well, indicating you may proceed to send your data. I've rummaged around the WCF documentation and I just can't see a way to accomplish this without doing some pretty low-level hooking into the HTTP request processing pipeline. How would you suggest I solve this problem?

  • WCF - Beginners question on Address (of ABC)

    - by Lijo
Hi Team, I am new to WCF. Following is a question on WCF. Suppose, I have a service defined as follows. The host has two addresses. I usually click on the base address http://.... to generate proxy. When the proxy is generated, will it have address of http alone? How can I generate a proxy with net.tcp. Is there any article that explains the use of net.tcp with local host and ASP.NET? service name="XXX.RRR.Common.ServiceLayer.MySL" behaviorConfiguration="returnFaults" endpoint contract="XXX.RRR.Common.ServiceLayer.IMySL" binding="netTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="MessagingBinding" behaviorConfiguration="LargeEndpointBehavior"/ host baseAddresses add baseAddress="net.tcp://localhost:86/XXX/RRR/ManagerService" add baseAddress="http://localhost:76/XXX/RRR/ManagerService" baseAddresses host /service Thanks Lijo

  • Strange error inserting new relationship data in core-data

    - by michael
My app will allow users to create a personalised list of events from a large list of events. I have a table view which simply displays these events, tapping on one of them takes the user to the event details view, which has a button "add to my events". In this detailed view I own the original event object, retrieved via an NSFetchedResultsController and passed to the detailed view (via a table cell, the same as the core data recipes sample). I have no trouble retrieving/displaying information from this "event". I am then trying to add it to the list of MyEvents represented by a one to many (inverse) relationship: This code: NSManagedObjectContext *context = [event managedObjectContext]; MyEvents *myEvents = (MyEvents *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"MyEvents" inManagedObjectContext:context]; [myEvents addEventObject:event];//ERROR And this code (suggested below): //would this add to or overwrite the "list" i am attempting to maintain NSManagedObjectContext *context = [event managedObjectContext]; MyEvents *myEvents = (MyEvents *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"MyEvents" inManagedObjectContext:context]; NSMutableSet *myEvent = [myEvents mutableSetValueForKey:@"event"]; [myEvent addObject:event]; //ERROR Bot produce (at the line indicated by //ERROR): *** -[NSComparisonPredicate evaluateWithObject:]: message sent to deallocated instance Seems I may have missed something fundamental. I cant glean any more information through the use of debugging tools, with my knowledge of them. 1) Is this a valid way to compile and store an editable list like this? 2) Is there a better way? 3) What could possibly be the deallocated instance in error? -- I have now modified the Event entity to have a to-many relationship called "myEvents" which referrers to itself. I can add Events to this fine, and logging the object shows the correct memory addresses appearing for the relationship after a [event addMyEventObject:event];. The same failure happens right after this however. I am still at a loss to understand what is going wrong. • ASP.net and WCF some clarification on "overriding"

    - by nettguy
Recently I faced few interview questions. The interviewer asked the to give the detailed answer. 1)Can we override a WCF service (Its is not OOPS overriding) ?.Explain the reason on either end. (WCF Related). 2)Can we override Page events (Page_Load())?.Explain reason.(ASP.NET related). 3)What is the primary responsibility of Pre_Init( page) event ,apart from user preference setting, skinning? 4) Can we override Static methods.Explain the reason. can anyone help me to understand the reasons?

  • WCF Blocking problem with mutiple clients!!

    - by Marcel
Hi I seem to have a blocking issue with WCF. Say I have two users and each have created their own instance of a class exposed on a WCF host using net.tcp with endpoint something like this "net.tcp://localhost:32000/SymHost/". The class is PerSession context and concurrency is reentrant. The class exposes two methods Alive() which return a bool of true straight away and an AliveWait which I inserted which does a Thread.Sleep for 4 seconds before returning true (testing purposes). Now client 1 calls AliveWait() during which time he is blocked which is fair enough but then if client 2 makes a call to Alive() on its own instance he has to wait until client 1's call is returned - this behaviour is not what I would have expected? I would have expected client 2 to carry on as if nothing has happened or is this to do with the fact that they both share the same endpoint? Can anyone explain what is going on and how I can make sure that client 2 can call its own instance uninterrupted? Any help much appreciated!

  • How to introduce custom primitive key types to WCF Data Services (Astoria)

    - by Artem Tikhomirov
Hello. We use custom type to represent Identifiers in our project. It has TypeConvertor attached and it always helped with serialization. I've tried to use WCF Data Services to expose some data from our system, but faced a problem. Astoria framework do not recognize class as an entity even though I've decorated it with [DataServiceKey("Id")] attribute. If I change type of property to Guid - it totally works :(. How could teach WCF Data Services to understand this simple class?

  • CommunicationException in WCF

    - by user343159
Hi I have a problem with a WCF Service I've just created. This was working yesterday but for some reason it's just stopped working. One of my WCF methods returns an array of an Entity Framework entity, like this: public BranchContactDetail[] GetClosestBranches(string postcode, int howManyBranches) { GeoLocation geoLocation = GetLocationFromPostcode(postcode); Location location = new Location(geoLocation.Latitude, geoLocation.Longitude); using (BranchDirectoryEntities entities = new BranchDirectoryEntities()) { var branchesInOrder = entities.BranchContactDetails .Where(b => b.latitude.HasValue && b.longitude.HasValue ) .OrderBy(b => location.DistanceFrom(b.latitude, b.longitude)) .Take(howManyBranches) .ToArray(); return branchesInOrder; } } ...and, as I say, this was working fine yesterday. Now I'm getting a "The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly." I've hunted all over the web but no-one seems to know the answer. Anyone shed any light on this issue? Regards, Mark

  • Reading HttpRequest Body in REST WCF

    - by madness800
Hi All, I got a REST WCF Service running in .net 4 and I've tested the web service it is working and accepting HttpRequest I make to it. But I ran into a problem trying to access the HttpRequest body within the web service. I've tried sending random sizes of data appended on the HttpRequest using both Fiddler and my WinForm app and I can't seem to find any objects in runtime where I can find my request body is located. My initial instinct was to look in the HttpContext.Current.Request.InputStream but the length of that property is 0, so I tried looking in IncomingWebRequestContext that object doesn't even have a method nor properties to get the body of the HttpRequest. So my question is, is there actually a way to access the HttpRequest request body in WCF? PS: The data inside the request body is JSON strings and for response it would return the data inside response body as JSON string too.

  • WCF DataContract with readonly properties

    - by Asaf R
I'm trying to return a complex type from a service method in WCF. I'm using C# and .NET 4. This complex type is meant to be invariant (the same way .net strings are). Furthermore, the service only returns it and never recieves it as an argument. If I try to define only getters on properties I get a run time error. I guess this is because no setters causes serialization to fail. Still, I think this type should be invariant. Example: [DataContract] class A { [DataMember] int ReadOnlyProperty {get; private set;} } The service fails to load due to a problem with serialization. Is there a way to make readonly properties on a WCF DataContract? Perhaps by replacing the serializer? If so, how? If not, what would you suggest for this problem? Thanks, Asaf

  • Client App with WCF to consume ASMX

    - by BDotA
I have a webservice with .NET 1.1 (old school ASMX) and I am creating a client app to connect to it and use its services. From what I remember from the last time I had used Visual studio -which was 2003 version!- I can add a WebReference to it and easily use it. Tried it . it still works. but it looks like things have changed in 2008 and now we also have WCF. so I can add it as a Service Reference. but with this new method I could not find a way to create an Instance object to the ASMX service and call its methods... how do we accomplish the same thing with WCF?

  • Returning large collections from WCF Serivce

    - by Nate Bross
I'm trying to determine the best approach for building a WCF Service, and the area I'm struggling with most is returning lists of objects. The built-in maxMessageSize of 64k seems pretty high, and I really don't want to bump it up (quick googling finds 100s of places bumping the maxMessageSize up to multi-gigabyte range which seems foolish). But, when I'm returning a collection of objects (~150 items) I am exceeding the default 64k. I'm almost to the point of returning my own class which inherits IEnumerable and has properties for hasNext, hasPrevious and PageSize so that I can implement paging on the client side -- this seems like alot of code. The other option is to jackup the maxMessageSize and hope for the best, but that feels wrong. All other aspects of my service are working great, its just returning large collectiosn where I'm having issues. For background, there are two types of consumers of this service, UI applications which will be primarly web and/or wpf applications, and data processing applications, .NET console apps, and maybe some other non-UI apps. For the UI applications, I would like to keep them responsive and keep the messageSize low, on the console apps it doesn't matter as much as they are just pulling data down to do processing and push it back up to the service.

  • Multiple Service Address Configs in WCF Silverlight App

    - by CraigS
My team is building our first significant Silverlight application, using a 3 layered architecture and WCF. We have developed about 10 separate WCF services in the middle layer so far, and this number is only going to grow. Generally, the presentation layer (ie. the Silverlight app) is pointing to the services as hosted on our dev server. However, there are times when I want it to access the services from localhost - ie. the developers machine. Is there an easy way to change where the presentation layer is looking for the services? Is there some way of easily switching between options here?

  • WCF Runtime Error while using Constructor

    - by Pranesh Nair
Hi all, I am new to WCF i am using constructor in my WCF service.svc.cs file....It throws this error when i use the constructor The service type provided could not be loaded as a service because it does not have a default (parameter-less) constructor. To fix the problem, add a default constructor to the type, or pass an instance of the type to the host. When i remove the constructor its working fine....But its compulsory that i have to use constructor... This is my code namespace UserAuthentication { [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode=System.ServiceModel.InstanceContextMode.Single)] public class UserAuthentication : UserRepository,IUserAuthentication { private ISqlMapper _mapper; private IRoleRepository _roleRepository; public UserAuthentication(ISqlMapper mapper): base(mapper) { _mapper = mapper; _roleRepository = new RoleRepository(_mapper); } public string EduvisionLogin(EduvisionUser aUser, int SchoolID) { UserRepository sampleCode= new UserRepository(_mapper); sampleCode.Login(aUser); return "Login Success"; } } } can anyone provide ideas or suggestions or sample code hw to resolve this issue...

  • Different return XML in a WCF Operation

    - by Sean Hederman
    I am writing a service to a international HTTP standard, and there is one method that can return three different XML results, call them Single, Multiple and Error. Now I've written an IXmlSerializable class that can consume each of these results and generate them. However, WCF seems to insist that I can only have a single return XML root name. I have to choose an XmlRoot for my custom object of either Single, Multiple or Error. How can I set up WCF so that I can choose at runtime what the root will be? This is what I have currently. /// <summary> /// A collection of items. /// </summary> [XmlRoot("Multiple", Namespace = "DAV:")] public sealed class ItemCollection : IEnumerable<Item>, IXmlSerializable /// <summary> /// Processes and returns the items. /// </summary> [WebInvoke(Method = "POST", UriTemplate = "{*path}", BodyStyle = WebMessageBodyStyle.Bare)] [OperationContract] [XmlSerializerFormat] ItemCollection Process(string path);
