  I am trying to understand the technology which many news websites use please have a look at this website http://www.shritimes.com/ if you click any news item then the particular thing gets zoomed and viewer can read the news as far as I can understand they have done some programming by which a gif image is opened up in a new pop up, can some one help to understand as what thing is used here javascript,html, php or what exactly? I have seen this feature in a lot of websites I want to know how it is achieved? I am looking from the code side of the things if some one can advise me any function call which does this I am a programmer but into C I am new to web kind of things.

• Installer hangs at blinking dots

  I've got a problem. I've tried booting it from a 4gb FlashDrive many times and yet, it'll just show me blinking dots. I've tried the options (booting from first drive, trying ubuntu without installing, help, test memory). I cant! I've also tried Ubuntu 11.10 but the turns out the same. Additional specs: First HDD, 2 partitions, C: and E: by Windows. Second HDD, 2 partitions, F: and G: by Windows. First HDD: 40Gb, Second HDD: 32Gb. I've made the Second HDD blank and plan to install Ubuntu there. Any help will do. I've tried both of the ISO images of both Linux Distros, but it didn't work. Both of them results to these. HELP "Registered protocol family 1", then "_", Boot from first hard drive Cannot load a ramdisk with an old kernel image.

• Will Google penalize my website if I hide the H1 tag?

  I've read an article today where the author stated that if you put keywords on to your page but then hide them with CSS, Google will penalize your site. This make sense. This got me thinking though about my own technique when I build a website. If for example when I build a website and the logo contains the name of the website, I tend to put the name of the website in a H1 tag and then hide this tag. I don't know why I do it, I've always done it. I also include any text held in an image in the alt attribute of the img tag. But because I am hiding the H1 tag, does this leave me open to Google penalizing the website because I've hidden this one tag?

• Can't install ubuntu 12.04 64 bit and 32 bit

  I downloaded The Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, i burned it from a cd and when I tried to install it i only and get a black screen and saying Peter Arvin et al could not find kermel image I thought there's a problem with the file so i downloaded it again and install it then i always get the same message. I tried also 32 bit and i always get the same error. I tried also installing it from a usb and i always get the same. So i just downloaded the WUBI and works so fine to my computer. I'm using Sony Vaio E Series with a 32 bit system and 500 GB hard Disk Drive.

• Application Logging needs work

  Application Logging Application logging is the act of logging events that occur within an application much like how a court report documents what happens in court case. Application logs can be useful for several reasons, but the most common use for logs is to recreate steps to find the root cause of applications errors. Other uses can include the detection of Fraud, verification of user activity, or provide audits on user/data interactions. “Logs can contain different kinds of data. The selection of the data used is normally affected by the motivation leading to the logging. “ (OWASP, 2009) OWASP also stats that logging include applicable debugging information like the event date time, responsible process, and a description of the event. “There are many reasons why a logging system is a necessary part of delivering a distributed application. One of the most important is the ability to track exactly how many users are using the application during different time periods.” (Hatton, 2000) Hatton also states that application logging helps system designers determine whether parts of an application aren't being used as designed. He implies that low usage can be used to identify if users like or do not like aspects of a system based on user usage of the application. This enables application designers to extract why users don't like aspects of an application so that changes can be made to increase its usefulness and effectiveness. “Logging memory usage can also assist you in tuning up the internals of your application. If you're experiencing a randomly occurring problem, being able to match activities performed with the memory status at the time may enable you to discover the cause of the problem. It also gives you a good indication of the health of the distributed server machine at the time any activity is performed. “ (Hatton, 2000) Commonly Logged Application Events (Defined by OWASP) Access of Data Creation of Data Modification of Data in any form Administrative Functions  Configuration Changes Debugging Information(Application Events)  Authorization Attempts  Data Deletion Network Communication  Authentication Events  Errors/Exceptions Application Error Logging The functionality associated with application error logging is actually the combination of proper error handling and applications logging.  If we look back at Figure 4 and Figure 5, these code examples allow developers to handle various types of errors that occur within the life cycle of an application’s execution. Application logging can be applied within the Catch section of the TryCatch statement allowing for the errors to be logged when they occur. By placing the logging within the Catch section specific error details can be accessed that help identify the source of the error, the path to the error, what caused the error and definition of the error that occurred. This can then be logged and reviewed at a later date in order recreate the error that was received based data found in the application log. By allowing applications to log errors developers IT staff can use them to recreate errors that are encountered by end-users or other dependent systems.

• Not enough space left in the hard drive. How to proceed?

  Where do I begin... I can hardly do anything on Ubuntu 12.04. I am very close to removing and returning to Windows. First I could not load it because the graphics appeared to be running low but somehow that stopped happening and I could log on. Now I can not download anything or I get this message Cannot write: No space left on device. I tried trouble shooting this issue but every time I try and fix the problem I am blocked by this message E: Write error - write (28: No space left on device) E: Can't mmap an empty file E: Failed to truncate file - ftruncate (9: Bad file descriptor) E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. $ OLD=$(ls -tr /boot/vmlinuz-* | head -n -2 | cut -d- -f2- | awk '{print "linux-image-" $0}') Ubuntu is also running incredibly slow and I cant get anything done! Please help this is driving me mad!

• Upgrading a dual-boot system HDD

  I dual-boot my laptop due to lousy VM performance, and have a new 500GB/7200rpm drive coming in to replace the stock 320GB/5400rpm drive. I have the drive set up in three partitions: one for the Win7 system files, one for storage, and the third as the ext4 Linux file system. The system file and storage partitions are both NTFS. What I'm planning to do is use the system image creator built in Win7, then move that over to the new drive. However, how can I migrate the Ubuntu partition, and how do I make sure that the Grub bootloader isn't overwritten by the Windows loader?

  I cannot install Ubuntu 11.04 or 11.10 32 or 64 bit from CD or USB Drive on my machine. I tried to unplug all devices connected to USB, no changes the same thing: [ 15.383691] sd 7:0:0:3: [sdg] Attached SCSI removeable disk. And then the installation or Live image booting does nothing more... Its quite annoying that Ubuntu run on every of my Machines but not on my new PC :( What can I do to get that running? Edit: Fascinating thing I found out, is that the 10.04 LTS seems to work in every way. Why does 11.04 or 11.10 does not... Maybe theres a Bug in the installer ?

I am using Joomla but can switch to any CMS, or try to build an extension myself. The problem is I dont know where to look for example code, or what to look for. To me it doesnt seem like too difficult a process. Also, the code must be out there, with a little tweaking I can probably use someone elses, but I dont even know what to search for.

• Ubuntu 12.10 install freezes at configuring hardware

  I'm installing Ubuntu 12.10 (64 bit) from a bootable USB stick. At first I had trouble with a black screen after selecting 'install ubuntu'. I added nomodeset and xforcevesa to the options to fix that problem. Now when installing, it hangs at 'Configuring Hardware', specifically at ubuntu ubiquity: update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.5.0-17-generic Specs: Asus UX32a DB51 Intel Core i5 3317U 1.7 GHz 4GB DDR3 RAM intel hd 4000 graphics 500 GB harddrive with 25 GB sandisk ssd I'm trying to install Ubuntu by itself right now on the SSD. I made custom partitions (100 mb EFI boot partition, 4GB swap space, 20GB ext4 mounted on '/') I've tried re-downloading the ubuntu iso and creating a new boot image on my flash drive and it results in the same problem.   I have successfully setup PXE server on Ubuntu 12.04 with DNSMASQ for DHCP Proxy Service, TFTPD-HPA for TFTP service, NFS-KERNEL-SERVER, APACHE2 and SYSLINUX for pxelinux.0 bootloaded needed for pxe boot using the following POST: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1606910 I was successfully able to pxe boot a client to a Ubuntu 12.04 LIVE CD. Next, I want to PXE boot a client to a RHEL 6.5 x64 Kernel and initrd image. I dont want to install, just boot a client so that it mounts initrd and I can get a minimal filesystem on the client. How can I do that? Please Help!!

• Take a single snaphot from a webcam with a delay

  I use gst-launch-0.10 v4l2src num-buffers=1 ! jpegenc ! filesink location=$HOME/Desktop/test.jpg to take snapshots. It works well. However in some light situation I need to drop some of the first frames the webcam outputs so that the webcam white balance doesn't provide me with an impossible to view image. Do you know how could I do that? With the GUI of cheese I can do it without any problem, but I need to automate this via CLI. Many thanks.

You should also have a virtual machine with a clean, typical installation of BizTalk Server and all of its prerequisites. Sysprep will run on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista with SP1. Description Sysprep creates a VHD of a BizTalk Server 2010 installation (including the operating system and all prerequisites) for quick deployment on other virtual machines. An image created using Sysprep will choose a new computer name in order to join the domain the first time it starts. • How can I reinstall GRUB Bootloader on MBR after installing Kubuntu?

  I installed Ubuntu, but then installed Kubuntu over it (formated Ubuntu Partition) because Ubuntu is not compatible with almost any hardware on my PC. Problem is I'm stuck with an old GRUB that says Ubuntu in the options because in my attempts to make it compatible with my hardware I got an old Grub with an image with an Earth that says Debian. How can I replace the GRUB with the one Kubuntu is supposed to install. I don't want to modify just the text, or the command to install on /sdaX, I want to actually re-write the MBR with the latest grub (reinstall the bootloader). Thanks.

• Can I copy large files faster without using the file cache?

  After adding the preload package, my applications seem to speed up but if I copy a large file, the file cache grows by more than double the size of the file. By transferring a single 3-4 GB virtualbox image or video file to an external drive, this huge cache seems to remove all the preloaded applications from memory, leading to increased load times and general performance drops. Is there a way to copy large, multi-gigabyte files without caching them (i.e. bypassing the file cache)? Or a way to whitelist or blacklist specific folders from being cached?

• Backing up VPS and Database Servers for website

  I currently have an "un-managed" (no help from hosting company) windows vps server. I am working on a good backup solution to return my site back online within a few hours. I am pretty comfortable backing up and restoring my database, however what is a good solution for backing up my VPS for easy recovery? Should I just use windows backup and create an image? I'm open to suggestions. Additionally, has anyone had to restore an entire VPS before? Is it reasonable to have it back up and running in a few hours?

• Color distortion with Intel HD4000 over HDMI output - VGA is fine

  I set up a new system with i5 3570k gigabyte z77 d3h using integrated graphics (HD4000) and I've installed the 64bit Desktop version of 12.04. Connected to my Acer Screen via HDMI, the colors are horribly distorted. I think the biggest issue is that black appears as greenish. Over VGA everything is fine. Interestingly, I once observed that connecting both, the VGA and the HDMI cable at the same time, solved the issue. Ubuntu thought 2 screens were connected, I mirrored the image, and over HDMI the colors looked fine. However, after a reboot I am now unable to reproduce this behavior. I read frequently, that Intel hardware should be supported out of the box by Ubuntu but it doesn't seem to be the case here. Should I upgrade my Kernel? If so, which version would you recommend?   Say you are using C/SDL for a 2D game project. It's often the case that people use a structure to represent a frame in an animation. The struct consists of an image and how much time the frame is supposed to be visible. Is this data sufficient to represent somewhat complex animatio? Is it a good idea to separate animation management code and animation data? Can somebody provide a link to animations tutorials that store animations in a file and retrieve them when needed. I read this in a book (AI game programming wisdom) but would like to see a real implementation.

• Adobe AIR install problem, Ubuntu x64 14.04

  Haven't seen this kind of error on askubuntu yet. Did everything as it says here: How can I install Adobe AIR? After sudo ./AdobeAIRInstaller.bin shows this image: dropbox.com/s/wg6cv03h5n1tqgr/adobe_air.png Meanwhile terminal shows a bunch of such messages: (setup:2579): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "murrine", Nothing is installed. Those murrine - it showed another code before ( another than setup:2579) - I googled it, installed something, it showed another code - I googled it, installed something, etc. Doesn't seem to affect installation anyhow.

• disk not accessible

  i formatted my hard drive yesterday and it was working well even after the formatting. But when I restarted my system again , is is showing that the space is alloted to my files but they are inaccessible. I have even tried to unhide the files and folders, if they got hidden somehow. But nothing works. the hard drive is being shown empty but the properties are saying that it still conatins the data : http://imgur.com/ObjTE in the image, it is showing that the directory has only 1 file of size:4.8 kbps but the space being used by the drive is 11.6 GB. do suggest some solution.

  I delivered a session today that describes what's new in Office 2010 for solution developers. It's a session that I have evolved over the past year. My core demos have also evolved, and I'm pleased with the impact they make. • Need help with AMD catalyst control center

  I just built my first HTPC and I hooked it up to my Sony KDS-R60XBR1 and I am having display issues. I believe this is only a 1080i display and when I select 1920x1080 on the resolution I get strange lines on the display when anything moves on screen. I am guessing this is because it is putting it in 1080p and the TV cannot process that. As of now I have lowered the resolution and that worked but I would like to get this set at 1080. Also I cannot change the underscan. I am stuck with black borders around the display image. When I pull up the catalyst control center on my computer I am able to adjust all of this stuff but on the one on my HTPC with the TV display I have no options. See images below.

• Drawing map tiles for iPhone game

  I'm working on a turn-based strategy game for the iPhone that has a hexagon-grid based map in it. I'm in the process of drawing up the actual tiles for the different landscapes (i.e. forest, grassland, etc.) and was wondering what program to draw the tile images in. I would assume Adobe Illustrator since a vector-based image may allow for smooth images even when the user is zoomed in really close. Is this right? Thanks!
