• Toshiba eStudio 281c turn off snmp in driver.

  I have a customer with an eStudio 281c colour copier/printer and I'm having an issue with terminal services. Basically, the driver has the ability to query the printer for its configuration over snmp. I've set it to manual rather than auto so it's effectively switched off. Trouble is, when logging into terminal services it's still trying to communicate with the printer. This is an issue because when it fails it then defaults to being a different printer model with a different tray configuration. Users can still print but the settings are wrong. Any ideas?

  MySQL 5.6 is truly a better MySQL and reflects Oracle's commitment to the evolution of the most popular and widelyused open source database on the planet.  The feature-complete 5.6 release candidate was announced at MySQL Connect in late September and the production-ready, generally available ("GA") product should be available in early 2013.  While the message around 5.6 has been focused mainly on mass appeal, advanced topics like performance/scale, high availability, and self-healing replication clusters, MySQL 5.6 also provides many developer-friendly nuggets that are designed to enable those who are building the next generation of web-based and embedded applications and services. Boiling down the 5.6 feature set into a smaller set, of simple, easy to use goodies designed with developer agility in mind, these things deserve a quick look:Subquery Optimizations Using semi-JOINs and late materialization, the MySQL 5.6 Optimizer delivers greatly improved subquery performance. Specifically, the optimizer is now more efficient in handling subqueries in the FROM clause; materialization of subqueries in the FROM clause is now postponed until their contents are needed during execution. Additionally, the optimizer may add an index to derived tables during execution to speed up row retrieval. Internal tests run using the DBT-3 benchmark Query #13, shown below, demonstrate an order of magnitude improvement in execution times (from days to seconds) over previous versions. select c_name, c_custkey, o_orderkey, o_orderdate, o_totalprice, sum(l_quantity)from customer, orders, lineitemwhere o_orderkey in (                select l_orderkey                from lineitem                group by l_orderkey                having sum(l_quantity) > 313  )  and c_custkey = o_custkey  and o_orderkey = l_orderkeygroup by c_name, c_custkey, o_orderkey, o_orderdate, o_totalpriceorder by o_totalprice desc, o_orderdateLIMIT 100;What does this mean for developers?  For starters, simplified subqueries can now be coded instead of complex joins for cross table lookups: SELECT title FROM film WHERE film_id IN (SELECT film_id FROM film_actor GROUP BY film_id HAVING count(*) > 12); And even more importantly subqueries embedded in packaged applications no longer need to be re-written into joins.  This is good news for both ISVs and their customers who have access to the underlying queries and who have spent development cycles writing, testing and maintaining their own versions of re-written queries across updated versions of a packaged app.The details are in the MySQL 5.6 docs. Online DDL OperationsToday's web-based applications are designed to rapidly evolve and adapt to meet business and revenue-generationrequirements. As a result, development SLAs are now most often measured in minutes vs days or weeks. For example, when an application must quickly support new product lines or new products within existing product lines, the backend database schema must adapt in kind, and most commonly while the application remains available for normal business operations.  MySQL 5.6 supports this level of online schema flexibility and agility by providing the following new ALTER TABLE online DDL syntax additions:  CREATE INDEX DROP INDEX Change AUTO_INCREMENT value for a column ADD/DROP FOREIGN KEY Rename COLUMN Change ROW FORMAT, KEY_BLOCK_SIZE for a table Change COLUMN NULL, NOT_NULL Add, drop, reorder COLUMN Again, the details are in the MySQL 5.6 docs. Key-value access to InnoDB via Memcached APIMany of the next generation of web, cloud, social and mobile applications require fast operations against simple Key/Value pairs. At the same time, they must retain the ability to run complex queries against the same data, as well as ensure the data is protected with ACID guarantees. With the new NoSQL API for InnoDB, developers have allthe benefits of a transactional RDBMS, coupled with the performance capabilities of Key/Value store.MySQL 5.6 provides simple, key-value interaction with InnoDB data via the familiar Memcached API.  Implemented via a new Memcached daemon plug-in to mysqld, the new Memcached protocol is mapped directly to the native InnoDB API and enables developers to use existing Memcached clients to bypass the expense of query parsing and go directly to InnoDB data for lookups and transactional compliant updates.  The API makes it possible to re-use standard Memcached libraries and clients, while extending Memcached functionality by integrating a persistent, crash-safe, transactional database back-end.  The implementation is shown here:So does this option provide a performance benefit over SQL?  Internal performance benchmarks using a customized Java application and test harness show some very promising results with a 9X improvement in overall throughput for SET/INSERT operations:You can follow the InnoDB team blog for the methodology, implementation and internal test cases that generated these results here. New Instrumentation in Performance SchemaThe MySQL Performance Schema was introduced in MySQL 5.5 and is designed to provide point in time metrics for key performance indicators.  MySQL 5.6 improves the Performance Schema in answer to the most common DBA and Developer problems.  New instrumentations include: Statements/Stages What are my most resource intensive queries? Where do they spend time? Table/Index I/O, Table Locks Which application tables/indexes cause the most load or contention? Users/Hosts/Accounts Which application users, hosts, accounts are consuming the most resources? Network I/O What is the network load like? How long do sessions idle? Summaries Aggregated statistics grouped by statement, thread, user, host, account or object. The MySQL 5.6 Performance Schema is now enabled by default in the my.cnf file with optimized and auto-tune settings that minimize overhead (< 5%, but mileage will vary), so using the Performance Schema ona production server to monitor the most common application use cases is less of an issue.  In addition, new atomic levels of instrumentation enable the capture of granular levels of resource consumption by users, hosts, accounts, applications, etc. for billing and chargeback purposes in cloud computing environments.The MySQL docs are an excellent resource for all that is available and that can be done with the 5.6 Performance Schema. Better Condition Handling - GET DIAGNOSTICSMySQL 5.6 enables developers to easily check for error conditions and code for exceptions by introducing the new MySQL Diagnostics Area and corresponding GET DIAGNOSTICS interface command. • How can I prevent my domain controller doing forward lookups for remote users?

  I have a Windows Server 2003 server in the office. I VPN into the LAN remotely. My VPN has a virtual NIC with the Windows Server as the primary DNS since it is a domain controller. When connected to the VPN and I do an nslookup or simply browse the web the DNS from the VPN provides the DNS answers. I believe this is because it has DNS forwarders, so queries it can't answer are forwarded and then it relays the answer. This is the desired behavior for workstations in the office (they should query their domain controller first); however for remote VPN users this is not desirable. I do not want my remote office's server to answer DNS queries it is not the authority of (which happens to be 192.168.x.x). Is there any way I can configure this?

  To followup from a previous query - I need some help with the implementation of easystorage high scores, which is bringing up some errors on the xbox. I get the prompt screen, a savedevice is selected and a file are all created! However the file remains empty, (I've tried prepopulating but still get errors). • Debian modem problem

  I'm a new Debian user, it looks like a very good choice 4 me, every thing is stable, free and easy to use. The problem is, I'm using my modem to establish a dial up connection to the internet (ppp) (a very old stupid way I'm forced to use for now), and using the KPPP application to do that, and nothing is working properly for me. it seems like it didn't recognize my modem or something. I already tried to make a few stuff, and now i know my modem is on /dev/tty0, so i made a link for that on /dev/modem, and query the modem using KPPP and it responded with something like: Ati : Ati0: Ati1: ... ... Ati7: with a textBox to fill up in front of each one of thees Atis, and now, when i press connect on kppp, it says modem ready, and that's it. BTW, my modem is MDC AC'97

  When I execute virt-copy-in command on a kvm host(Debian7.1), I got error saying "guestfish not found". However according to the dpkg comamnd, guestfish do have been installed: john@sver:~$ dpkg-query -l | grep guestfs* ii libguestfs-perl ... ii libguestfs-tools ... ii libguestfs0 ... What's the problem? Is the libguestfs-tools not the guestfish in Debian? Or it's just a broken dependency in libguestfs-tools in Debian7.1(my KVM Host)?

  I am trying to run multiple sites using single code base and code base consist of the following module (i.e. classes) User module Q & A module Faq module and each class works on MVC pattern i.e. it consist of Entity class Helper class (i.e. static class) View (i.e. pages and controls) and let's say I have 2 sites site1.com and site2.com. And I am trying to achieve following functionality site1.com can have User, Q & A and Faq module up and running site2.com can have User and Q & A module live while Faq module is switched off but it can be turned-on if needed, so my query here is what is the best way to achieve such functionality Do I introduce a flag bit that I check on every page and control belonging to that module? It's more like CMS where you can turn on/off different features. I am trying to get my head around it, please provide me with an example or point out if I am taking the wrong approach.

  I'm writing a rule in my htaccess that basically says this: If the request is for the homepage And a cookie has not been set Rewrite the page with /addCookie.php Then in addCookie.php, we set the cookie and redirect back to the homepage. This is all fine, but if the user doesn't accept cookies, we get an infinite loop of redirects. I'm new to mod_rewrite, I've done a lot of searching, but can't break the loop. I think I am pretty close, however if there is a space (encoded or otherwise) in the filename - it fails. example url: http://site.com/path/to/filename.ext/file-title=Nice File Name.ext?file-type=foo apache config: SetEnvIf Request_URI "^.*file-title\=(.*)\??.*$" FILENAME=$1 Header unset "Content-Disposition" Header add "Content-Disposition" "attachment; filename=%{FILENAME}e" UnsetEnv FILENAME An application will specify what is now showing up as "Nice File Title.ext" in the example. This all works great if there are no spaces, however - if there is a space the filename to download will just show up as "Nice". Why would I use external database if I can have neat constructions like: db.users[32] = something Array of 500K users is not that big effort for RAM Pros are: no problematic asynchronity (instant results) easy export/import dealing with database like with a native object LITERALLY ps. and considerations: Would it be faster or slower to do collection[3] than db.query("select ... I am going to store it as a file/s There is only ONE application/process accessing this data, and the code is executed line by line - please don't elaborate about locking. Please don't answer with database propositions but why to use external DB over native array/object - I have experience in a few databases - that's not the case. What I am building is a client/gateway/server(s) game. Gateway deals with all users data, processing, authenticating, writing statistics e.t.c No other part of software needs to access directly to this data/database.

However, if you're an old-school DBA  - did you know since SQL 2005 service pack 2 it  accepts a  second parameter ? database_id.. For example, this can be used to summarize some useful information from sys.dm_exec_query_stats. • Something eating space on OS drive

  I am facing low disk space issue from last few days. I checked with Restore,System Volume Information, $Recycled folders. But there is nothing which is occupying space. I had scanned my system for virus too. Total size of C: is 18 GB. But when I select all folders inside C: and query for used space, it shows 20+ gb space is used. I vacate space some how by deleting temp files, program's cache files, disk clean up etc up to (3 gb). And I ensured that no cache/temp files are recreated who can use the space again. Even after cleaning so much data, I am again facing low disk space issue. Something is eating disk space within 15-20 mins.

• Optimizing PHP<>MySQL performance

  I am trying to optimize my PHP<MySQL on this test script: <? for($i=0;$i<100;$i++)//Itterations count $res.= var_dump(loadRow("select body_ru from articles where id>$i*50 limit 100")); print_r($res); ?> I have APC, and article table have an index on id. Also, all these queries are hitting query cache, so sole MySQL performance if great. But when I am using ab -c 10 -t 10 to bench this scipt, I am getting: 100 itterations: ~100req/sec (~10'000 MySQL queries per second) 5 itteration: ~200req/sec 1 itteration: ~380req/sec 0 itteration: ~580req/sec I've tried to disable persistent connections in PHP - it made it slower a bit. So, how can I make it work faster, provided that MySQL is not limiting performance here?

• Help replacing old Windows 2003 SBS DC with a Win2008 Standard Edition DC

  Objective: Trying to replace a Windows 2003 SBS domain controller with a windows server 2008 Standard Edition Domain Controller. What I did: used ADPREP. Then all user accounts and OUs are successfully replicated into the 2008 server. I have also managed to transfer all the DC roles (operations master,schema,pdc) into the Server 2008. I have also used NETDOM QUERY FSMO . It displayed that all the roles transferred to the 2008 server. Problem: When I am trying to demote the windows 2003 SBS server using DCPROMO, the message is “No other Active Directory for this domain can be contacted”. I also tried shutting down the 2003 server. Users can login into the domain but they have trouble finding SHARED folders. Can someone help me find out what I did wrong ? Need a little push in the right direction here. Thank you very much ?

• nsclient++ intermittent connection refused on same subnet

  I have setup Nagios and nsclient++ on a number of my Windows servers. They are all in the same subnet so no routing or firewall stuff is taking place in between the endpoints, and I have verified that the firewalls on the servers are not causing trouble. The problem is that the scheduled checks sometimes fail with "connection refused" and sometimes work! It is a frustrating problem to resolve because I do not know what to look for. One place I did look is in the nsclient++ logs, where I am seeing this recurring error: ...\trunk\modules\CheckSystem\PDHCollector.cpp:148: Failed to query performance counters: \238... This sounds promising, but I couldn't find much on Google about this error as it pertains to NSClient++

• Vista locks up after ~10h. of activity

  Hi everybody, I am experiencing a problem: Windows Vista completely freezes/locks up lately... It happened today twice - the mouse and keyboard stopped responding and I had to re-boot. I checked the Application Events Log and I see these two errors: Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected. and then The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: SASDIFSV SASKUTIL I checked Help online and it points to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc756390%28WS.10%29.aspx and suggests Updating the drivers. I'm not sure why would I have problem with drivers and if so, how can I find out which drivers to update? Can you please help me? Thanks in advance.

I'm using windows implementation of grep. The 2%LOGFILE% in both java and grep command is causing an error message indicating the file is being use by another process. The Ugly workaround i have came up with is to put grep error redirect to a temporary %LOGFILE%.aux java ... | grep ... 2%LOGFILE%.aux type %LOGFILE%.aux % %LOGFILE% del %LOGFILE%.aux What is a better solution?

• Access losing db connections

  I have a weird problem going on at work. People have been using MS Access to connect to sql server db and lately people are getting sporadic problems with connecting to the servers. It's not always the same users and it's not always a problem, which makes it a real pain to try to solve. One example of a related problem. A person has a linked table to a table and she would filter the table or write a query on the table to return where itemsku = 'ABCD1234'. It would return one record but the ItemSku LMKN7486 and everytime it would return the wrong record but consistently the wrong record so itemsku abcd1234 always returned LMNK7486 One would think it might be a driver problem, but it also could be a user problem. Just posting the question to see if anyone else has had similar senerios. Thanks

• Where did ULSTraceLog go to in the SharePoint 2010 Logging Database?

  The Logging Database is one of the many new concepts that will make the life of many SharePoint administrators quite a bit more enjoyable. In SharePoint 2007 the Unified Logging System (ULS) logged all of its data to text files, typically found on your SharePoint server in 12\LOGS. We still have that in SharePoint 2010, but besides those text files, ULS can also write the data to a database! The advantages are obvious: easy to query, one central location for all servers in the farm, easy to build reports etc. You can find this ULS data in the SharePoint 2010 logging database (typically called WSS_Logging), in the view ULSTraceLog. Quite recently on one of my demo machines (standalone installation on Windows 7) I noticed the ULSTraceLog view was not available in the logging database. It turned out that there is a Timer Job that’s responsible for writing the data to the database, when the Timer Job hasn’t executed, the view is not there (the first time it executes, the view is created). Even more, the timer job was disabled, so the view would never be created, nor any data would be written to the database. If you encounter this situation as well, it’s quite easy to solve: Open the SharePoint Central Administration site Navigate to the Monitoring section Select Review Job Definitions Click on the job with the name Diagnostic Data Provider: Trace Log Click on the Enable button to enable it Optionally click on Run Now afterwards, to start it immediately There you go, the ULSTraceLog will be created and the ULS messages will appear in the database!

• Can't reconnect to my RDP session

  I use a VM through RDP. When I'm done for the day, I just disconnect the session and reconnect in the morning. That allows me to pick up what I was doing and not close all the applications. As I'm the only user, this generally works well. Today, I can't reconnect to my session from yesterday. When I RDP, I get a new session. When I run query user, I can see my other session: USERNAME SESSIONNAME ID STATE IDLE TIME LOGON TIME me rdp-tcp#82 1 Active 15:00 4/22/2010 9:00 AM me rdp-tcp#91 2 Active . 4/30/2010 9:00 AM If I try to use Terminal Services Manager to remote control the other session, I get this error: Session (ID 1) remote control failed (Error 7044 - The request to control another session remotely was denied. ) Is there any way to reconnect to this session, or do I need to just kill it?
