• Bit manipulation, permutate bits

  Hi. I am trying to make a loop that loops through all different integers where exactly 10 of the last 40 bits are set high, the rest set low. The reason is that I have a map with 40 different values, and I want to sum all different ways ten of these values can be multiplied. (This is just out of curiosity, so it's really the "bitmanip"-loop that is of interest, not the sum as such.) If I were to do this with e.g. 2 out of 4 bits, it would be easy to set all manually, 0011 = 7, 0101 = 5, 1001 = 9, 0110 = 6, 1010 = 10, 1100 = 12, but with 10 out of 40 I can't seem to find a method to generate these effectively. I tried, starting with 1023 ( = 1111111111 in binary), finding a good way to manipulate this, but with no success. I've been trying to do this in C++, but it's really the general method(if any) that is of interest. I did some googling, but with little success, if anyone has a good link, that would of course be appreciated too. :)

  Hi, I have a small contest problem in which is given a set of points, in 2D, that form a triangle. This triangle may be subject to an arbitrary rotation, may be subject to an arbitrary translation (both in the 2D plane) and may be subject to a reflection on a mirror, but its dimensions were kept unchanged. Then, they give me a set of points in the plane, and I have to find 3 points that form my triangle after one or more of those geometric operations. Example: 5 15 8 5 20 10 6 5 17 5 20 20 5 10 5 15 20 15 10 I bet that have to apply some known algorithm, but I don't know which. The most common are: convex hull, sweep plane, triangulation, etc. Can someone give a tip? I don't need the code, only a push, please!

• viewing the updated data in a file

  If i have file for eg: a log file created by any background process on unix, how do i view the data that getting updated each and every time. i know that i can use tail command to see the file.but let's say i have used tail -10 file.txt it will give the last 10 lines.but if lets say at one time 10 lines got added and at the next instance it has been added 2 lines. now from the tail command i can see previous 8 lines also.i don't want this.i want only those two lines which were added. In short i want to view only those lines which were appended.how can i do this?

• How to Bind a selected Item in a Listbox to a ItemsControl and ItemTemplate in WPF and C#

  All, LowDown: I am trying to create a Document Viewer in WPF. The layout is this: Left side is a full list box. On the right side is a Collection or an Items control. Inside the items control will be a collection of the "selected documents" in the list box. So A user can select multiple items in the list box and for each new item they select, they can add the item to the collection on the right. I want the collection to look like a image gallery that shows up in Google/Bing Image searches. Make sense? The problem I am having is I can't get the WPFPreviewer to bind correctly to the selected item in the list box under the itemscontrol. Side Note: The WPFPreviewer is something Micorosft puts out that allows us to preview documents. Other previewers can be built for all types of documents, but im going basic here until I get this working right.   I am working in JTable and I have a requirement like this. Say There are 4 columns namely 10,20,30,40 Now the value usually comes like 10-20 20-30 and 30-40 So it was easy for us to display the name for this range. But recently the values have started to come randomly like 15-25 10-25,25-30 In this case our JTable should dynamically adjust the size of the row such that it represents that range only meaning it should not disturb the existing cells and only rows which diverge from the normal range. TO be more precise I should be able to merge and split cells based on the content of the cell.

  I'm trying to find more about history of FileInputStream.skip(negative) operation. According to InputStream documentation: If n is negative, no bytes are skipped. It seems that implementation of FileInputStream from Sun used to throw IOException instead, which is now also documented in Javadoc: If n is negative, an IOException is thrown, even though the skip method of the InputStream superclass does nothing in this case. I just tried that, and found that FileInputStream.skip(-10) did in fact return -10! It didn't threw exception, it didn't even return 0, it returned -10. (I've tried with Java 1.5.0_22 from Sun, and Java 1.6.0_18 from Sun). Is this a known bug? Why hasn't it been fixed, or why documentation is kept the way it is? Can someone point me to some discussion about this issue? I can't find anything.

I am trying the following code: 0 use strict; 10 my @frame_events = (((1) x 10), ((1) x 10)); 20 print "$frame_events[1][1]\n"; but it gives the following error: Can't use string ("1") as an ARRAY ref while "strict refs" in use at ./dyn_pf.pl line 20. This syntax only seems to initialize a 1d array as print "$frame_events[1]\n" works. Though perl doesn't give any error during the assignment.

  I'm trying to read user input of integer. (like cin nInput; in C++) I found io:fread bif from http://www.erlang.org/doc/man/io.html, so I write code like this. {ok, X} = io:fread("input : ", "~d"), io:format("~p~n", [X]). but when I input 10, the erlang terminal keep giving me "\n" not 10. I assume fread automatically read 10 and conert this into string. How can I read integer value directly? Is there any way to do this? Thank you for reading this.

I can double click on my exe and choose a file to process with OpenFileDialog and it works fine. However, when I do open with, I get FileNotFound error.   What is the maximum number of characters that can be used to define the key_name of a datastore entity? Is it bad to have very long key_names? For example: Lets say we use key_names of a 170 characters, which is the length of a Twitter message 140 plus 10 numeric characters for latitude and 10 for longtitude and 10 for a timestamp. (Reasoning of such a key_name: So by using such a key_name we can easily and quickly be sure of no duplicate postings, since the same message should not come from the same place and time more than once.)

• Something preventing default (explorer-style) CListCtrl jump to line behaviour

  I'm maintaining an MFC/COM/ATL 45-odd project solution originally written with VS6. I'm now using VS2008. I'm looking at a list control(vanilla CListCtrl) which doesn't behave as we think it should. Normally in an MFC list control you can press a key, (Q say) & selection will jump down to the 1st line beginning with 'Q' (like windows explorer). Does anyone have an idea as to why this might not happen? The styles/Extended styles are set the same as another control in the same project, which DOES work OK. Do I have to send my own message, or is there a flag, etc. that controls that functionality or what? Normally Google would supply the answer, but I haven't been able to frame my query correctly to come up with the relevant info this time. Here's the line from the .rc file for the CListCtrl that doesn't jump to a line on keypress: CONTROL "List1",IDC_BAL_LIST,"SysListView32",LVS_REPORT | LVS_SHOWSELALWAYS | WS_BORDER | WS_TABSTOP,0,73,493,230 And here's a line from the same .rc file showing a list control that does do that: CONTROL "List1",IDC_LIST1,"SysListView32",LVS_REPORT | LVS_SHOWSELALWAYS | WS_BORDER | WS_TABSTOP,1,38,501,219 As you can see, there's no obvious difference to the properties, so what program code would affect it?

• Custom animation problem in Powerpoint 2003

  I have an animation of a grid that scrolls to the left. It's a Gantt chart, and it works fine. I then have several elements I want to drop on the grid, I give them all the same movement animation and this works fine, everything scrolls at the same speed and time. However I want to add entrance animations for the elements on the grid, I can have it so that when all the entrance animations are complete then it starts scrolling, but I want it to enter whilst it is scrolling. How do you have an entrance animation for an element and keep it's position updated? The entrance animation and movement animation don't seem to work together as expected when run simultaneously. cheers!

• NSSortDescriptor for NSFetchRequest sorting unexpectedly

  My entity has a property (sortOrder) that is of the type Decimal(NSDecimalNumber) but when I execute a fetch request using that property as a key, I get back results in a seemingly random order. If I output the value of the property I get really strange values until I get it's intValue. Example: The first run produces this result. The first value is the raw value of the property. • How can I remove certain characters from inside angle-brackets, leaving the characters outside alone

  Edit: To be clear, please understand that I am not using Regex to parse the html, that's crazy talk! I'm simply wanting to clean up a messy string of html so it will parse Edit #2: I should also point out that the control character I'm using is a special unicode character - it's not something that would ever be used in a proper tag under any normal circumstances Suppose I have a string of html that contains a bunch of control characters and I want to remove the control characters from inside tags only, leaving the characters outside the tags alone. For example Here the control character is the numeral "1". Input The quick 1<strong>orange</strong> lemming <sp11a1n 1class1='jumpe111r'11>jumps over</span> 1the idle 1frog Desired Output The quick 1<strong>orange</strong> lemming <span class='jumper'>jumps over</span> 1the idle 1frog So far I can match tags which contain the control character but I can't remove them in one regex. I guess I could perform another regex on my matches, but I'd really like to know if there's a better way.   Hi, this is a question for the algorithms gurus out there :-) Let S be a set of intervals of the natural numbers that might overlap and b a box size. Assume that for each interval, the range is strictly less than b. I want to find the minimum set of intervals of size b (let's call it M) so all the intervals in S are contained in the intervals of M. Trivial example: S = {[1..4], [2..7], [3..5], [8..15], [9..13]} b = 10 M = {[1..10], [8..18]} // so ([1..4], [2..7], [3..5]) are inside [1..10] and ([8..15], [9..13]) are inside [8..18] I think a greedy algorithm might not work always, so if anybody knows of a solution of this problem (or a similar one that can be converted into), that would be great.
