• CSS repeat pattern with linear gradient

  I'm on my first approach with photoshop patterns.I'm buildin a webpage where I want to use my pattern to give a nice effect to my webpage background. The pattern I found is 120x120 px If I was done here I should use this css: background-imag:url(mypattern.jpg); background-repeat:repeat; But Im not done.Id like to *add to my page's background a linear gradient(dir=top/down col=light-blue/green) with the pattern fill layer on top of it, with blending mode=darken *. This is the final effect: I come to the point. QUESTION: Combining linear vertical-gradient effect and my 120x120 pattern is it possible to find a pattern that I could use to repeat itself endlessly both vertical and horizontal??which is a common solution in this case? • Good development themes/environments for Gnome/kde/whatever?

  I've searched forever for good themes or customized versions of any type of x-server that is designed for development in terms of web productions/programming for all kind of stuffs. Features such as simplified workspace overviews, good tabbing support etc. For multimedia "UbuntuStudio" exists, and something like that but for programming instead. I know that it's possible to customize it by myself but I don't have the skills to make it all happen. Another reason why it's hard for me to customize it is that I simply do not know everything that would make it good for me. I've looked into gnome-shell and it has (according to me) superb workspace overview functions, but lacks in other spaces instead. Any help in finding a good solution for me in this case is appreciated. If some of you also have had this problem and found a solution that works for you, please tell me how you did :) Would love to solve this for once!

• Backing Up Transaction Logs to Tape?

  I'm about to put my database in Full Recovery Model and start taking transaction log backups. I am taking a full nightly backup to another server and later in the evening this file and many others are backed up to tape. My question is this. I will take hourly (or more if necessary) t-log backups and store them on the other server as well. However, if my full backups are passing DBCC and integrity checks, do I need to put my T-Logs on tape? If someone wants point in time recovery to yesterday at 2pm, I would need the previous full backup and the transaction logs. However, other than that case, if I know my full back ups are good, is there value in keeping the previous day's transaction log backups?

  Hello, I am trying to find every "a - b, c, d" pattern in an input string. The pattern I am using is the following : "^[ \t]*(\\w+)[ \t]*->[ \t]*(\\w+)(,[ \t]*\\w+)*$" The input is : a -> b b -> c c -> d The function is : private void ParseAndBuildGraph(String input) { MatchCollection mc = Regex.Matches(input, "^[ \t]*(\\w+)[ \t]*->[ \t]*(\\w+)(,[ \t]*\\w+)*$", RegexOptions.Multiline); foreach (Match m in mc) { Debug.WriteLine(m.Value); } } The output is : c -> d Actually, there is a problem with the line ending "$" special char. If I insert a "\r" before "$", it works, but I thought "$" would match any line termination (with the Multiline option), especially a \r\n in a Windows environment. Is it not the case ?

After 7 months, he called me, and ask to me return "his" money. In any other case, he will sue me. His version is that I have to give him 1500 euros, but my version is that he own me another 1500. I have no contract, only emails and Excel file with counted hours. What do I have to do? I don't want to give him back 1500, because it was my work, and his bad management. Also, I do not want my 1500, because I think it's not fair from my side. What should I do?

• How does the Garbage Collector decide when to kill objects held by WeakReferences?

  I have an object, which I believe is held only by a WeakReference. I've traced its reference holders using SOS and SOSEX, and both confirm that this is the case (I'm not an SOS expert, so I could be wrong on this point). The standard explanation of WeakReferences is that the GC ignores them when doing its sweeps. Nonetheless, my object survives an invocation to GC.Collect(GC.MaxGeneration, GCCollectionMode.Forced). Is it possible for an object that is only referenced with a WeakReference to survive that collection? Is there an even more thorough collection that I can force? Or, should I re-visit my belief that the only references to the object are weak?

• REST doesn't work with Sever-Client-Client setup

  I am having a problem with my current RESTful api design. What I have is a REST api which is consumed by Django web-server, which renders the HTML templates. REST api > Django webserver > HTML The problem I am encountering is that I have to reconstruct all the URLS like mysite.com/main/cities/<id>/streets/ into equivalent rest api urls on my web-server layer: api.com/cities/<id>/streets/ Thus I have a lot of mapping back and forth, but as far as I know REST says that the client (in this case my web-server) should NOT need to know how to re-construct the urls. Can REST be used for such a setup and how? Or is it only viable for Server-Client architecture. Thanks

  If I have a paid app on Android Market, will my merchant API callback URL get a hit when the customer goes to check out? I am wondering how merchants/vendors/developers secure their applications for android market. I have used google checkout before to implement a custom integration, so I understand how that all works. What I do not see anywhere that I have looked is what, if any, integration does the merchant/developer have with the Android Market checkout process? I understand that the market uses google checkout, but in that case the market hosts the checkout process and not the merchant, so it's not clear whether they give your URL a call. So where is the hook? Am I right in assuming it is the merchant API callback URL?

  I have a situation for Ruby, where an object is possibly necessary to be created, but it is not sure. And as the creation of the object might be costly I am not too eager creating it. I think this is a clear case for lazy loading. How can I define an object which is not created only when someone sends a message to it? The object would be created in a block. Is there a way for simple lazy loading/initialisation in Ruby? Are these things supported by some gems, which provide different solutions for various cases of lazy initialisation of objects? When another feature is running I then need to change the application, to restrict functionality. Use Case Example User can normaly edit unpaid records. If the application then runs a Payrun process (Long), I need to then change parts of the application to restrict functionality for a short period of time (eg. Make existing unpaid records readonly).   I need to create an AR migration for a table of image files. The images are being checked into the source tree, and should act like attachment_fu files. That being the case, I'm creating a hierarchy for them under /public/system. Because of the way attachment_fu generates links, I need to use the directory naming convention to insert primary key values. How do I override the auto-increment in MySQL as well as any Rails magic so that I can do something like this: image = Image.create(:id => 42, :filename => "foo.jpg") image.id #=> 42

• Proper way to setup a UISegmentedControll on UINavigationController UINavigationBar all inside UITab

  The title pretty much describes it all. The problem being the handling of the UISegmentedControll callbacks (button presses). If the content type of all of the nested views was the same (i.e. some UITableViewControllers) then I could just switch dataSource'es and reload the tables. However this is not the case, I have 3 very different views in there that allow further drilldown / interaction based on the NavigationControllers. So the way I have this set up ATM is that there is a "container" class that I put all of the UINavigationControllers in. They all share the same and one UISegmentedController and I redirect the callbacks to the container view controller. This does not feel too good at all. Additionally there is a problem when the user taps on the tab bar icon, the navigation controller pops to root which is ... the empty container view. Here's a picture of what I want to achieve:

  I am looking for some SQL varchar comparison function like C# string.compare (we can ignore case for now, should return zero when the character expression are same and a non zero expression when they are different) Basically I have some alphanumeric column in one table which needs to be verified in another table. I cannot do select A.col1 - B.col1 from (query) as "-" operator cannot be applied on character expressions I cannot cast my expression as int (and then do a difference/subtraction) as it fails select cast ('ASXT000R' as int) Conversion failed when converting varchar 'ASXT000R' to int Soundex would not do it as soundex is same for 2 similar strings Difference would not do it as select difference('abc','ABC') = 4 (as per msdn, difference is the difference in the soundex of 2 character expressions and difference =4 implies least different) Is there any other way of doing it ?

• Do not show partial items in a WPF listbox

  I've tried Google and I've tried Bing to no avail. Does anyone here have an idea on how to prevent partial items from appearing in a listbox in WPF? In case that does not make sense here is an example: Listbox is 200 pixels tall - each item is 35 pixels tall. That means I can show 5.7 items. 7/10 of an item is undesirable. I'd like to limit it to showing only 5 items. The user could then scroll to see the additional items. Should I A) try to dynamically size the listbox or ScrollViewer ViewPort so that it fits perfectly? Or B) implement a custom panel that would not arrange a child whose desired height is more than the remaining vertical space? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Last note: If anyone knows of a 3rd party control (listbox or grid) that does this I would be interested in that as well.

• SQL Server - Query Short-Circuiting?

  Do T-SQL queries in SQL Server support short-circuiting? For instance, I have a situation where I have two database and I'm comparing data between the two tables to match and copy some info across. In one table, the "ID" field will always have leading zeros (such as "000000001234"), and in the other table, the ID field may or may not have leading zeros (might be "000000001234" or "1234"). So my query to match the two is something like: select * from table1 where table1.ID LIKE '%1234' To speed things up, I'm thinking of adding an OR before the like that just says: table1.ID = table2.ID to handle the case where both ID's have the padded zeros and are equal. Will doing so speed up the query by matching items on the "=" and not evaluating the LIKE for every single row (will it short circuit and skip the LIKE)?

  This should be an ideal case of not re-inventing the wheel, but so far my search has been in vain. Instead of writing one myself, I would like to use an existing C++ tokenizer. The tokens are to be used in an index for full text searching. Performance is very important, I will parse many gigabytes of text. Edit: Please note that the tokens are to be used in a search index. Creating such tokens is not an exact science (afaik) and requires some heuristics. This has been done a thousand time before, and probably in a thousand different ways, but I can't even find one of them :) Any good pointers? Thanks!

If this is the case, why doesn't it list every module on my system before raising ImportError?   Today, I found myself coding something like this ... public class LocalEnums { public LocalEnums() { } public void foo() { enum LocalEnum { A,B,C }; // .... // class LocalClass { } } } and I was kind of surprised when the compiler reported an error on the local enum: The member enum LocalEnum cannot be local Why can't enums be declared local like classes? I found this very useful in certain situations. In the case I was working, the rest of the code didn't need to know anything about the enum. Is there any structural/design conflict that explains why this is not possible or could this be a future feature of Java?

• Graphics.FromHwnd(IntPtr.Zero) returns null, why?

  I'm currently investigating a problem with a 3rd party component (DevExpress) in my application. My issue is quite similar to this one DevExpress KB article. I get the same exception with more less the same stacktrace. So I used .NET Reflector to find out, what may be null in this scenario, and the only object which is a candiate to be null is Graphics. This is created with Graphics.FromHwnd(IntPtr.Zero). Because I don't have a broad knowledge about GDI, I would like to know if somebody can tell me possible scenarios when this may return null... I tried to reproduce it in a scenario where windows is out of GDI handle's, but then I'm getting a "out of handles" - exception at least once, which is not the case in the issue I'm investigating tia, Martin

  We have the following tools in place: Subversion (Version 1.5.9) Polarion (version 3.2.2) Polarion is based on Subversion, so on every action that changes anything (which is often the case), Polarion will use a Subversion commit to change anything. All things are currently stored in one and only one repository, so every commit of every user (some 100-200 on the same repository) will trigger the pre-commit hook. So what is the best strategy to provide pre-commit hooks that will trigger only for some, but not all projects run as fast as possible, because every pre-commit hook will block all other commits. We have tried to implement pre-commit hooks with Java (using SVNKit), but this will start on every commit a Java VM. So any ideas how to implement that nicely?

Right now i'm using recursive function to find out the required iframe object in JavaScript. It works fine, The issue is when we create large dynamic pages which may contains up to 1000 iframes in it. In this case my recursive function takes too much time to find the required iframe object.
