• How to make an invisible button to run a command

  I have a form with TextBox and two Buttons. One button has IsDefault property set to true, and IsCancel set to true for other button. TextBox is CommandTarget for both buttons. When I'm pressing Enter or ESC keys on TextBox, it works as I'm pressing on corresponding button. I want to remove buttons from the form. They should not be visible, but the textbox should react on Enter or ESC as before. I cannot just set button's Visible property to collapsed - in this case they does not work at all. And I prefer to avoid of tracking keyboard events. Is it possible?

• How to handle request-wise DB transactions in ASP.NET MVC?

  I'm using SubSonic 3.0 (SimpleRepository) to handle database access in my ASP.NET MVC 1.0 application. It would be nice to handle a transaction for every web request, committing if everything went smooth and rolling back in case of exception. Is this possible? If so, how? I know this topic has been discussed many times, but I just couldn't find a satisfactory answer. I have built my own solution (create a TransactionScope in the controller, then commit/rollback in OnActionExecuted), but it turns out to be very unreliable.

  Hi community, I'm interessted, how does Linq2Sql handles a compiled query, that returns IQueryable. If I call an extension method based on a compiled query like "GetEntitiesCompiled().Count()" or "GetEntitiesCompiled().Take(x)". What does Linq2Sql do in the background? This would be very bad, so in this situation I should write a compiled query like "CountEntitiesCompiled". Does he load the result (in this case "GetEntitiesCompiled()") into the memory (mapped to the entity class like "ToList()")? So what situations make sense, when the compiled queries return IQueryable, that query is not able to modify, before request to the Sql-Server. So in my opinion I can just as good return List. This is my data source: List<DataRow> I could of course convert the List< to a DataTable, but I am curious if there was a way to specify the binding in XAML to access the "Thumbnail" column within the DataRow that is stored in a List< collection. • Accurate Timings with Oscilloscopes on PC

  In the world of embedded software (firmware) it is fairly common to observe the order of events, take timings and optimise a program by getting it to waggle PIO lines and capturing their behavior on an oscilloscope. In days gone by it was possible to toggle pins on the serial and parallel ports to achieve much the same thing on PC-based software. This made it possible to capture host PC-based software events and firmware events on the same trace and examine host software/firmware interactions. Now, my new laptop ... no serial or parallel ports! This is increasingly the case. So, does anyone have any suggestions as to go about emitting accurate timing signals off a "modern" PC? It strikes me that we don't have any immediately programmable, lag-free output pins left. The solution needs to run off a laptop, so using add-on cards that only plug into desktops are not permitted.

• Android Class which extends Dialog, how to clear TextViews before it is displayed

  I have a class that extends android.app.Dialog, the layout is done in an xml file, and the setup (button listeners, etc) is done on the onCreate method. My problem is that whenever the dialog is displayed, then dismissed, and displayed again, the Editable TextViews are still populated with the information that was displayed previously. What is the common way to clear these text fields? Remember - this is a separate class that extends Dialog - so there is no 'onDialogCreate' like Activity has. Or, perhaps I am extending the wrong class? There is just a lot of processing being done, and do not want to have all the code in the main Activity. I would like it to be in a separate Class. I tried to extend AlertDialog, but it does not create the border like Dialog does. Any help would be great. So essentially it looks like this: FieldData data = new FieldData(); data.Value = 8; remoteObject.DoSomething(data); Note: I've omitted the ISerializable implementation for simplicity, but it is as you'd expect.

• Mono and Apache are serving files with no ASP.NET processing

  On a new Rackspace Cloud Server box (Ubuntu 9.10), I've installed apache2, libapache2-mod-mono, and mod-mono-server2. I've disabled mod_mono and enabled mod_mono_auto, but whatever I do, requests for Default.aspx return the actual contents of Default.aspx (in this case, "This is a marker file generated by the precompilation tool, and should not be deleted!") I've installed XSP, and it looks like it works okay, but I'd like to use Apache with mod_mono (seems a more common configuration) if I can get it running. However, this is no error messages and no hints, with Google obviously not terribly helpful. What else can I look for to make sure I'm configured correctly? How can I test further?

  How do I get multi-line text on a WPF Button using only C#? I have seen examples of using <LineBreak/> in XAML, but my buttons are created completely programmatically in C#. The number and labels on the buttons correspond to values in the domain model, so I don't think I can use XAML to specify this. I have tried the naive approach below, but it does not work. Button b = new Button(); b.Content = "Two\nLines"; or b.Content = "Two\r\nLines"; In either case, all i see is the first line ("Two") of the text.

  Now that .NET v3.5 SP1 has been released (along with VS2008 SP1), we now have access to the .NET entity framework. My question is this. When trying to decide between using the Entity Framework and LINQ to SQL as an ORM, what's the difference? The way I understand it, the Entity Framework (when used with LINQ to Entities) is a 'big brother' to LINQ to SQL? If this is the case - what advantages does it have? What can it do that LINQ to SQL can't do on its own?

  I am using the following to output the full name of a month in Greek. setlocale(LC_TIME, 'el_GR'); strftime("%B"); This works, except the output string is ISO-8859-7 (greek code page), which is a problem since I need a UTF-8 string. I could put this through iconv to convert it, but I was wondering if there was a way to do that without resorting to an extra function. Could you somehow tell strftime to output a UTF-8 string in this case?

  HI guys. Im using mod_rewrite to do some redirects on a web site. I want to be able to do the following mySite.com/ - Goto Home mySite.com/foo - Goto redirect.php and redirect acordingly. My redirect rule was RewriteRule (^\w*$) redirect.php?url=$1 [NC] But im oviously missing something because when I go tomySite.com/ I get sent to redirect.php I need a regex that allow lower and upper case letters, as well as underscores but it has to ignore "empty" strings so when I go to mySite.com/ the index file is displayed. Any help? Thanks!

• Problem making ant compile my classes present in different Eclipse projects into single destination

  I have close to about 20 projects in my Eclipse workspace. They are interdependent. Now I want to build all of them in a single war file. The thing is eclipse does it nicely... if I create a Dynamic Web Project and link sources of all the 20 projects. But I want to automate the entire process and want to be able to run a script (ant maybe..) and deploy a war in my app server. My approach: I started with a simple approach. I tried to sequentially build each project (javac task) with destination directory as web-inf of my war. But it is giving me weird errors like : package " ** " not found,when it shows the same all the required classes in classpath (I used verbose) Do you think, a continous integration engine will be better for my case (20 projects..) I saw Team City, but didnt get it the first time...

• iPhone Pong Advanced Deflection Angle

  Hi, I am currently developing a simple Pong game for the iPhone. Currently using CGRectIntersectsRect for the collision detection and as for the deflection of the ball when it hits the paddle, I just multiply the ball velocity with -1 (therefore reversing the direction of the ball). What I am trying to do is to make it so that when the ball hits the paddle, it checks whether how far is the ball from the center of the paddle, and increases the deflection angle the further the ball is away from the center of the paddle. (E.g. In this case, the ball will be deflected back at 90 degrees no matter where it came from, as long as it hits the center of the paddle) How am I suppose to do that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

• Capturing a NSParseErrorException

  Could someone tell me how I can capture a NSParseErrorException? The Situation: my app downloads a small .plist file. I convert this into dictionary using the string method -propertylist. This normally works fine. I check for a connection before going to retrieve the file, so it works fine if I've got a connection to the internet, and works fine when I don't. However, I discovered a use case that crashes. If I'm at location that requires authetication before connecting to the internet (at Starbucks, say) what's being returned by the app isn't a plist and the attempt to parse it causes the application to crash. So is there a way to transform my code so that the NSParseErrorException is caught and rather than crashing the program I can just skip over this piece of code? NSDictionary *temp = [myDownloadString propertyList]; I tried doing this if ([myDownloadString propertyList]==NSParseErrorException){ //do something } but that didn't work.

  Hello, I am trying to understand, how can Voldermort be used? Say, I have this scenario: Since, Voldemort is a key-value pair. I need to fetch a value (say some text) on the basis of 3 parameters. So, what will be the key in this case? I cannot use 3 keys for 1 value right, but that value should be search able on the basis of those 3 parameters. Am I making sense? • New asp "showat" attribute required inconsistently in VS2010. Why?

  When I generate code using T4 templates in Visual Studio 2010, I get the following error for each of my asp controls when I try to compile: Control "ddState" is missing required attribute "showat". I have never gotten this error in previous versions of .NET. Further, I don't get this error when I manually construct my pages either by dragging/dropping, nor do I get it when I type out the control text myself. When I generate code, I have to manually add showat="client" to my tag for the compiler to be happy. It was my understanding that I never had to explicitly specify this tag. The following: <asp:dropdownlist id="ddState" runat="server" showat="client" /> solves the problem. Why do I have to add this to generated code but not other times? (It's a VS-2010 webforms project, using VB, in case that makes a difference.)

• Why does my JButton look differently of different computers?

  I use JButtons in my application. They need to have different colors. First I used that btn.setBackground(col);. It works on my computer and on another computer my button just gray (not red, as it's supposed to be). Trying to solve this problem I decided to use images. I do it in the following way: tmp = new JButton(newIcon); Again, it works fine on my computer and on another computer I see just gray buttons. Does anybody have any ideas what can be the reason of the problem and how it can be solved? I heard it can be related to "look-and-feel of the native system". But I do not know what it means and what should I do if it is the case? Can anybody pleas, help me with that?

• jQuery fading in an element - not working exactly as i want it to...

  Anybody see what's wrong? Doesn't seem to do anything. If i replace $(this, '.inner').stop(true, false).fadeIn(250); with $(.fadeInOnHover .inner').stop(true, false).fadeIn(250); then all the .inner elements on the page will fade in (which isn't really what i want, as i have ~10 of them). I know it's possible to achieve what i want to do, but i don't know how in this case. • PHP reading 'get' variable that may or may not have been set

  Simply put, if you try to read the value of a get variable, what happens if said variable had not be put into the URL. Example: you request the page test.php, in that file it tries to read the value of $_GET['message']. What happens in this case? dose the value just get returned as ''? Dose this mean, that if I am always expecting a value to be entered, and am not willing to accept a value of '' that I can just do something like $foo = $_GET['bar']; if($foo == ''){ // Handle my 'error' } else { // $foo should now have a value that I can work with } Please bare in mind I know that I could use isset($_GET['bar']) But I don't just want to know if it is set, I don't care if it is or not, I just care if it has a value that is more then just an empty string.
