• OAuth on iPhone: using Safari or UIWebView?

  Hi all, When I implement OAuth in iPhone, I have a dilemma to choose Safari or UIWebView to open the Twitter pages for user authentication? I write some advantage and disadvantage of both case: Using UIWebWeb. The disadvantage is users have to enter their credentials in our application. It's maybe risky phishing. The advantage is this approach will not quit our app. Using Safari for user to authenticate (this approach automatically callbacks to our application) Addvantage: less risky. • latex: curly braces outside math

  Hi, I am producing some latex beamer slides (but I think it is not a beamer specific question per se). I have the following: \begin{itemize} \item Issue1 \item Issue2 \item Issue3 \end{itemize} now I want to have a right curly brace (i.e. '}') behind the items spreading over issue1 and issue2. And of course I want to write something behind that curly brace I a perfect world I would write something like: \begin{itemize} \left . \item Issue1 \item Issue2 \right \\} One and Two are cool \item Issue3 \end{itemize} This does not work because I am not in a math environment and I can not put the whole snippet inside a math environment because itemize would not work in that case.   I want to use a special method to initialize a std::vector<unsigned int> which is described in a C++ book I use as a reference (the German book 'Der C++ Programmer' by Ulrich Breymann, in case that matters). In that book is a section on sequence types of the STL, referring in particular to list, vector and deque. In this section he writes that there are two special constructors of such sequence types, namely, if Xrefers to such a type, X(n, t) // creates a sequence with n copies of t X(i, j) // creates a sequence from the elements of the interval [i, j) I want to use the second one for an interval of unsigned int, that is std::vector<unsigned int> l(1U, 10U); to get a list initialized with {1,2,...,9}. What I get, however, is a vector with one unsigned int with value 10 :-| Does the second variant exist, and if yes, how do I force that it is called?

• Repeater ItemDataBound Complete Trigger

  Hi I have a Repeater and I am doing various things during the ItemDataBound event. My Repeater is in a control. What I am noticing is that the things that are supposed to happen in the ItemDataBound event happen after the Page_Load of the page hosting the control. Is there a way to use some sort of ItemDataBoundComplete trigger so I can do other things on my page after the events of the ItemDataBound have taken place? [Edit] I have controls that are being bound to the ItemDataBound and they are not available until after the Page_Load for the page hosting the control. [Solution] (In my case): In my page I used the following: Control.Page.LoadComplete += new EventHandler(Control_LoadComplete); Then I performed what I had to do in that event.

• Use of COM object in IIS 7

  Hi all, I am currently moving an ASP.NET web-project from an IIS 6 to a IIS 7 hosting environment. Everything seems to be running OK, except my calls to a COM object. I can perfectly instantiate an object of the COM type, but when I call one of its methods, the IIS crashes. The event log reports an error code "0xc0000374", which indicates a heap corruption. When I run the application inside the visual studio development server, everything goes well and the COM object code gets executed without any errors. This is also the case when the application is hosted on an IIS 6 machine. I have looked through all settings of the IIS 7 and have not found anything configurable for COM objects, like security or ... I have been struggling with this for a while and I'm out of ideas. Does anyone have any experience deploying COM objects on IIS 7? Your help would be very appreciated!

• Rails: Skinny Controller vs. Fat Model, or should I make my Controller Anorexic?

  I know similar questions have been answered before - such as: Where should logic go, where to do certain tasks, etc. But I have a more specific question - How far should I take this axiom: "keep your controller skinny, make your model fat!" Here is an example: For instance let's say I have multiple source of verification data. A good example would be a VIN number - I can verify it against, manufacturers data source, DMV's data source, also my local databases - to see what I have on record. So I have a model called Vin and vins_controller. Inside the model I have 5 methods: check_against_local_db, check_against_dmv, check_against_car_maker_1, check_against_car_maker_2, etc. In my controller keeping with the REST, in action show - I have a simple case statement which looks at the params[:source], and based on source specified - will call specific check method. Now here is the question: Should I leave the logic that governs which data source to call in controller or should I move it to model and then in controller just do something like check_vin(source, vin)? Should I make my controller anorexic?

• Is it possible to use IPC inside of a IE8 Browser Helper Object?

  I need to communicate with a Service using IPC from inside of a Browser Helper Object (registered with IE8). Unfortunately, all of this communication is done through an Assembly API that I have no control over. Whenever this API starts up I get the following error: ExceptionSystem.Runtime.Remoting.RemotingException: Failed to connect to an IPC Port: The system cannot find the file specified. I realize that it is difficult to discern what the issue is without source. However I am curious if anyone knows of anything sort of permissions or DLL issues that would prevent IPC from working in this case.

• Recommendation for serial communications in Access 2007

  I need to communicate with a bar code scanner connected over a serial port in Microsoft Access. In older versions of Access I was able to use a wrapper around MSCOMM32.ocx that no longer seems to work. I can't use wedge communication because I need to use ACK/NACK which is only supported through the RS232 interface and I need to send messages to the scanner, which is also only supported through the RS232 interface. Are there any controls in widespread use that support serial communication in Access 2007? EDIT: In case anyone comes across this, the newest version of MSCOMM32.ocx (I believe dated 3/09) still works fine as of this writing. It is older versions of MSCOMM32.ocx that do not work.

• WPF ListView.CurrentChanged too fast for binding

  My case: MVVM ListView+Details(custom UserControl) List bound to MV.Items (IsSynchronizedWithCurrent=true) Details bound to MV.Items.Current MV.Items.Count == 100 about 0.2sec to read details (lazy mode) When I hold the down arrow on the list, very strange things happen: list items order change current changes in the random order CPU usage drastically increments and eventually all hangs. I've read some post that one should start the timer or run handler in the background, but I am not able to do that, since all the binding WPF does for me. Is there some way to instruct the binding in my DetailsControl, to wait a while before accepting CurrentItem? Or should I just resign from the clean solution and write custom code in my MV to handle that?

  I have a small application built using Seam 2.2, Richfaces 3.3, JBoss 5.1. Most of the page navigation adds the request parameters to the target URL. I would like to hide parameters to be hidden to the customer who is using the application (e.g. I would expect the URL to be something like "http://localhost:8080/books/Book.seam". The parameters (userId, orderId and cmId) are currently mapped to the backend bean via Book.page.xml. How do I prevent the request parameters from showing up in the browser URL, as it also allows the customer to manipulate the URL. We did look at seam URL re-writing feature, it talked about manipulating say the primary key id in a REST format, not sure how to accomplish something more complex like the above use case in a elegant fashion.

• Looking for how-to use UIGraphicsSetPDFContextURLForRect on iOS or Cocoa

  I'm playing to manipulate PDF on iOS (display but also and mostly generation). I wish to embed rectangular areas which act as "external" links (URLs like http://host.tld/path/file). Do you know where I can find an example(s) of how to use the UIGraphicsSetPDFContextURLForRect function? I find absolutly nothing on Internet. If I understand well, the only requirement is that the current graphic context should be PDF "type" and I think I respect this since, upstream, I call UIGraphicsPushContext why my PDF context as parameter (this was anyway required for methods like drawAtPoint: that I use also with success). I do not think it is important but just in case I specify that this DOES NOT take place in the drawRect: of a View subclass. You're quite right to say me unequivocally that I have "all wrong". The graphical environment is so sophisticated and rich in iOS that I assume to have not assimilated more than 1 or 2% for now. Thank you in advance.

  Let's say I have a first structure like this: typedef struct { int ivalue; char cvalue; } Foo; And a second one: typedef struct { int ivalue; char cvalue; unsigned char some_data_block[0xFF]; } Bar; Now let's say I do the following: Foo *pfoo; Bar *pbar; pbar = new Bar; pfoo = (Foo *)pbar; delete pfoo; Now, when I call the delete operator, how much memory does it free? sizeof(int) + sizeof(char) Or sizeof(int) + sizeof(char) + sizeof(char) * 0xFF ? And if it's the first case due to the casting, is there any way to prevent this memory leak from happening? Note: please don't answer "use C++ polymorphism" or similar, I am using this method for a reason.

• Classes missing if application runs for a long time

  I have a funny problem - if my application runs for a long time ( 20h), then sometimes I get NoClassDefFound error - seems like JVM decided that the class is not going to be used anyway and GCd it. To be a bit more specific, here's an example case: object ErrorHandler extends PartialFunction[Throwable,Unit] { def isDefinedAt(t: Throwable) = true def apply(e: Throwable) =e match { // ... handle errors } } // somewhere else in the code... try { // ... long running code, can take more than 20 hours to complete } catch (ErrorHandler) And I get the following exception: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/rogach/avalanche/ErrorHandler$ If that try/catch block runs for smaller amounts of time, everything works as expected. If anyone is interested, here is the codebase in question: Avalanche I need to note that I saw this and similar problems only on Cent OS 5 machines, using JRE 6u26 and Scala 2.9.1 / 2.9.2. What could be the cause of this problem?

  Hi everybody, I'm working on a simple application that draws an alpha-blended picture on the screen's Device Context every 2 secs, I want to refresh the screen contents before the drawing operation (To erase the drawn pic), I have used many many trick but unfortunately, the screen won't refresh correctly, some regions still keep portions of the drawn pic I'm really frustrated from this issue :( These are the sources codes I have used, I'm using C# SendMessage(HWND_BROADCAST, WM_SYSCOLORCHANGE, IntPtr.Zero, IntPtr.Zero); // wasted time in the refreshing process is enough to keep this.   I am having an issue with setting the background-image of a #x to the background image of #y. Correct me if I am wrong but I think you would do this in a simple case by saying $('#x').css('background-image',$('#y').css('background-image')); The problem is that when y was initially set up, it was set up like this: <div id='y' style='background-image: url(./randomcolor.php?ibase=<?php echo $entity->name; ?>) .... So when it does it, it is getting the URL of the generator, and javascript is just regarding that as a string. Do I have to do an ajax get here, or is there some kind of eval I could use.

• PHP reading 'get' veriable that may or may not have been set

  Simply put, if you try to read the value of a get variable, what happens if said variable had not be put into the URL. Example: you request the page test.php, in that file it tries to read the value of $_GET['message']. What happens in this case? dose the value just get returned as ''? Dose this mean, that if I am always expecting a value to be entered, and am not willing to accept a value of '' that I can just do something like $foo = $_GET['bar']; if($foo == ''){ // Handle my 'error' } else { // $foo should now have a value that I can work with } Please bare in mind I know that I could use isset($_GET['bar']) But I don't just want to know if it is set, I don't care if it is or not, I just care if it has a value that is more then just an empty string.

  What will be the exact definition of leap year ? AFAIK "A year which is divisible by 4 is a leap year.But for century years' the years which are divisible by 400 is a leap year." But that definition makes 100, 200, 300, 400.... upto 1700 NOT LEAP years! But in Gregorian calender all of them are all leap year,check this out. You can also try "call 1700" in Linux to verify. So the correct algorithm foe leap year would be if ( (year % 4 == 0) && ( year <= 1700 || year % 100 != 0 || year % 400 == 0 )) printf("%d is a leap year.\n", year); else printf("%d is not a leap year.\n", year); But is this specific to Gregorian calender ? • ReportViewer height issue. Hiding scrollbars.

  Hi, I'm using MSSQL 2005 Reporting Services and in this case I need to display some reports on an ASP.NET page using the ReportViewer control (I guess thats the only way, right?). The problem is that I can't get the property SizeToReportContent to work. When displaying the report, I get a vertical scrollbar because the report is too large. It looks like an iframe window. Searching on google it seems to be a bug. It can be fixed by setting AsyncRendering to false but I don't want that. I need another solution. I was wondering if it's possible to set the height on the report element using JavaScript after the report has been loaded? Or do you know of another solution? This is really annoying. • How to impose control access on flash player streaming through RTMP?

  Hi, I'm using ICECAST and I'm streaming AAC/HE-AACv2 audio/video file through flash player and on iPhone. Both are separate. But when I submit url in WINAMP to stream it's requesting username/password. But when I use it with flash player, it just starts streaming. My case is I want to use same streaming (RTMP) for both website and iPhone app and i want to impose control access over my flash player to authenticate who can see streamed video. So, I need to allow access to authenticated users only to see flash player or just reject playing. Now, my provider is not supporting control access on flash player, but i need to do it... can u say how i can do this? Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks.
