    Hi Everyone, I need to use spinrite on my notebook which has no cd-rom. Can one tell me how I could install and run spinrite from a USB thumbdrive? such that I could boot the notebook up with a thumbdrive and start spinrite. Are all USB thumbdrive capable of booting?   • How can I set up a dual-site Storage Daemon in Bacula (mirror the backup)

    On site A, I have sucessfully set up a bacula director on one host, several File Daemons on the hosts I want to backup, and finally one Storage Daemon where the backup actually is stored. If disaster struck the building Site A, I want a second Storage Daemon on another site, Site B. The Filesets, Director etc would be the same, except the jobs will be stored on the other Storage Daemon as well. Are there any best practises on this?

  • Testifying rasing net.core.somaxconn can make a difference

    I got into an argument on the net.core.somaxconn parameter: I was told that it will not make any difference if we change the default 128. I believed this might be enough proof: "If the backlog argument is greater than the value in /proc/sys/net/core/somaxconn, then it is silently truncated to that value" http://linux.die.net/man/2/listen but it's not. Does anyone know a method to testify this with two machines, sitting on a Gbit network? The best would be against MySQL, LVS, apache2 ( 2.2 ), memcached.

  • emails not working after domain has been forwarded to new hosting?

    What's the best course of action after the forwarding of domain has been done and apparently the email has been forgotten to be taken into account? I just forwarded the domain to a new server hosting and i forgot to take into account the emails from the old provider? A few concerns arise: the emails won't be lost, right? will pointing the MX records to the old mail server IP address fix this issue right away? Thanks!

    I'm using a Linux machine at work, and started using at home in a VM for some home development. I have a vimrc and a bashrc with some configuration, that are useful for both machines. What is the best way to sync them? Create a symlink for each file in my home folder pointing out to a the respectives files in my Dropbox sync folder? Is this possible (delete .bashrc and create a symlink instead)?

I'm using Win7 inside a Parallels VM with an old IBM keyboard (SpaceSaver II) and USB/PS2 adaptor. Despite all my best efforts to customise the keyboard for the VM, the accessibility shortcuts activate almost by themselves at critical times :-( Can anyone help?

  • Program for Synchronizing folders across multiple computers automatically

    I work in a company of about 20 people, I need to share some files with all of them in a folder(s) (files are constantly changed by me).., so they need to get the latest changed file automatically (pushed to their computer) What's the best program/system for this task? I need to be able to administrate their read/write access to the folder on a user level. Windows Live Mesh seemed to be perfect for me, but unfortunatly there's a limit of only 9 people in that system.

  • Is it safe to run two instances of svnserve on one repository, or only one?

    We've two nodes running heartbeat/drbd, and one of the services we're using is subversion. What I want to know is: is it safe to run svnserve on both nodes all the time, or should it only run on the active node? Does svnserve use file-level locking, or is it all in memory? What are the implications of running svnserve without its repositories accessible? Please let me know if this isn't clear, and I'll try my best to rephrase/clarify. :)

However, my headset microphone is quiet at the best of times, and no matter what combination of input and output volume settings I use, my voice is consistently inaudible.     I am currently using sccm 2007 for our software deployment and PXE. During this summer I have been tasked with upgrading 2000+ machines from Windows XP to Windows 7. My plan is to use sccm to advertise the Windows 7 task sequence to the machines. However my question is, what is the best way to automate the deployment? Can I make SCCM turn a machine on and make it run an advertised task sequence without having to be in the same room as the machines?

How to do this in a site with apache, which serves static html files only? That is, if there is a apache module, without adding scripts, that would be best.
