• MCV/MVP Patterns and Applications that interface with Hardware (DAQ/PLC/etc)

  I've been reading a lot about the MCV and MVP patterns for use with UI and it seems like a really nice powerful way to handle user interfaces. I am - however - having a difficult time deciding how this could integrate into a system where data in the model is created from a Data Acquisition System or Serial/Ethernet devices. There is also the added step that 70% of application interaction is performed by a PLC instead of a live user. It seems that for apps that just read/write & manipulate information from a database this works great, but how does does hardware and automation fit into these patterns? Is it as simple as another controller (for lack of a better term) that interacts with hardware that manipulates data and writes to a model? Maybe I am over thinking this or thinking too simply, so any advice would be great. I'm not quite sure where I'm going with this, so if something doesn't make sense or I was too vague leave me a comment. Thanks!

Now in the RenderContents(HtmlTextWriter output) method, I need to read that file and render it on the website. • How to configure IIS to serve my 404 response with my custom content?

  This question is related to this, hopefully better phrased. I would like to serve a custom 404 page from ASP.NET MVC. I have the route handler and all the infrastructure set up to ensure that nonexistent routes are handled by a single action: public ActionResult Handle404() { Response.StatusCode = 404; return View("NotFound"); } Problem: IIS serves back its own content (some predefined message) when I set Response.StatusCode to 404 before returning the content. On the VS development web server, this works as intended - the status code of the HTTP response is 404 while my content (the NotFound view) is served. I believe that when the IIS processing pipeline sees that the application returns 404, it simply replaces the whole response with its own. What setting in IIS affects this behavior? I do not have access to the IIS installation so I can not investigate this - however, I can ask the hosting provider to tweak the configuration for me if I know what exactly needs to be changed.

• Code is exectuting but the view is not loading when called form a function?

  I have a viewBased application with the viewController class mainView. In it I am loading various views(different nibs) depending upon certain actions that I do. I have added a popoverController with a barbutton in the mainView. Its intialized with a tableviewController class named popClass. When I select certain row in the popover, I want the view in my mainView to load someother view(as I do when i do certain actions). For that I have written a function in mainView Controller class and is calling it from the popOver class. Function and the lines of code are executing but nothing is happening. Even the log lines are printed but no action takes place. What is the problem? OR is there anyother way to make the view change in mainView by using the popover?

• Ruby on Rails - Send JavaScript to view

  Hey, I am creating a website in Ruby on Rails. I have a controller action that renders a view like so: def show time_left = Time.now.to_i - 3.hours.to_i @character = current_user.characters.find(params[:id]) respond_to do |format| format.html # show.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @character } end end This is fine as it renders the show.html.erb as I like. I would like however to somehow pass time_left to the view as a Javascript variable as this value is use by a countdown JQuery plugin. I could put a javascript block on the page in the HTML and print a instance variable out like so: <script type="javascript"> $('#countdown').countdown('<%= @time_left =>')</script> But I would like to keep all my JS in a external file and off the page could anyone give some advice on how to implement this?   I'm trying to modify the list of allowed users in web.config from a codebehind. <authorization> <allow users="alice, bob"/> <deny users="*"/> </authorization> I successfully retrieve the section I need config = WebConfigurationManager.OpenWebConfiguration("~"); authSection = (AuthorizationSection)config.GetSection("system.web/authorization"); When I iterate looking for the allow rule, I get two of them. foreach (AuthorizationRule rule in authSection.Rules) { if (rule.Action == AuthorizationRuleAction.Allow) { // manage the Users StringCollection } } The first item I get has 'alice' and 'bob' in the Users collection. The SECOND item I get has * Where is this second entry coming from? This is an Allow Rule, not a Deny rule. I could understand the * from a Deny rule. Is there some extra inheritance I'm not aware of?

• Images' site don't loading with a specific url in mvc

  Hi guys, I'm using ASP.NET MVC 1.0 and I try to create a personal blog! I have a problem with an url that it has to show all post wrote in a specific year and specific month. My url is look like(http://localhost:2282/Blog/Archive/2010/5). So... it work correctly, infact it show all record that have year=2010 and month=5 but my problem is that when I use this url, images in total my site are no longer loading. I have this problem only with this url's type. I think that the problem maybe is my maproute? routes.MapRoute( "ArchiveRoute", "Blog/Archive/{anno}/{mese}", new { controller = "Blog", Action = "Archive",anno = @"\d{4}", mese = @"\d{2}" } ); Why images don't loading with this url? • hidden form element not bound?

  Is it standard/intended behaviour that the value of a hidden form field is not bound to the view model (nor is a query string value)? Example: <%= Html.Hidden("test", "13" )%> if my poco view model contains a property test it should be bound shouldn't it?! i have to set it explicitely in the controller at the moment which kind of defeats the objective doesn't it? bla( formviewmodel m, string test) { m.test = test; } any feedback appreciated. thanks! christian

  Ok, this is driving me nuts! I have a directory structure as follows: application - modules -- default --- controllers --- models ---- DbTable ---- Cachmapper.php --- views My config file looks like this [production] phpSettings.display_startup_errors = 0 phpSettings.display_errors = 0 includePaths.library = APPLICATION_PATH "/../library" bootstrap.path = APPLICATION_PATH "/Bootstrap.php" bootstrap.class = "Bootstrap" resources.frontController.moduleDirectory = APPLICATION_PATH "/modules" resources.modules[] = The application seems to work, if I navigate to localhost, it correctly goes to the index controller. But, for some reason it refuses to load any models. • Any way to animate new elements in a GridView being added?

  My app polls a server every 15 seconds to see if there are any new items to display, then downloads the new items and disposes of the old items so that there are always exactly 100 items in the GridView. Unfortunately, this process can be confusing to the user if they see a page of images change without knowing where the items went. My idea is that there could be some kind of animation (such as the new items being inserted at the top and pushing the older ones down the list) to show what action is happening. Unfortunately, I have no clue how to make this animation happen. Is my idea even possible? How would I accomplish this?

  I'm building a JSF 2 application. I wanted to integrate it with jQuery, e.g.: $.getJSON(contextPath + '/something', function(data) { // ... }); I need contextPath/something to return data in JSON. How can I do it? I know I can assign another servlet to this URL, but this approach does not seem to scale well. One could use a more scalable approach with a front end controller (e.g. Spring Web MVC), but I really wanted to write this in Java Enterprise stack. What other options are there?

• How to stop/override a Jquery TimeOut function?

  Hi, I have a small jquery snippet that displays notification message at the top of the screen in response to user actions on a page. The notification is often displayed after Ajax actions with dynamic content inside it. For example: $("#mini-txt").html("Thank you!"); $("#mini").fadeIn("fast"); setTimeout(function() {$("#mini").animate({height: "hide", opacity: "hide"}, "medium");}, 3000); The notification works well, except when a user does two or more actions in rapid succession, in which case the TimeOut function will confuse itself and the second message appears to come inside the previous 3000 milliseconds. Is there a way to "kill" the previous notification if a new action is performed. I've got no problem with the actions/selectors, just the TimeOut function.... either stopping it or overriding it somehow. Or perhaps there's a better alternative for getting the message to linger on the screen for a few seconds before disappearing? Thank you.

So I want to be able to trigger that action by having a user click on a different link (which would actually be the phone number that the widget would call.)

• Java Program Design Layout Recommendations?

  I've learned enough to begin writing programs from scratch, but I'm running into the problem of not knowing how to design the layout and implementation of a program. To be more precise, I'm having difficulty finding a good way to come up with an action plan before I dive in to the programming part. I really want to know what classes, methods, and objects I would need beforehand instead of just adding them along the way. My intuition is leading me to using some kind of charting software that gives a hierarchal view of all the classes and methods. I've been using OmniGraffle Pro and while it does seem to work somewhat, I'm still having trouble planning out the program in its entirety. How should I approach this problem? What softwares out there are available to help with this problem? Any good reads out there on this issue? Thanks so much! Edit: Oh yeah, I'm using Eclipse and I code mainly in Java right now.

• Testing if a UI element is hidden in an OCUnit test

  I have a button that is hidden under certain circumstances that I wish to test. The button is hidden with [theButton setHidden: YES] in the viewDidLoad method if it is appropriate. For simplicity, lets say that the button is hidden when the buttonIsHidden property is set to true in the view controller. Right now I am trying the following: self.viewController = [[ViewController alloc] init]; self.viewController.buttonIsHidden = YES; [self.viewController loadView]; UIButton *theButton = [...] // function I wrote to retrieve the button based on it's touch up inside action if (theButton) { NSLog(@"%c", theButton.hidden); return (theButton.hidden == true) } return NO; It looks like the hidden property is not what it should be, the NSLog lines from the above code are blank. But, if I output another property like the height, it outputs the correct value so I know it is getting the right button. How do I access the hidden property of the button in this case?

  I have a model, Order, that has an action in the admin panel that lets an admin send information about the order to certain persons listed that order. Each person has language set and that is the language the message is supposed to be sent in. A short version of what I'm using: from django.utils.translation import ugettext as _ from django.core.mail import EmailMessage lang = method_that_gets_customer_language() body = _("Dear mister X, here is the information you requested\n") body += some_order_information subject = _("Order information") email = EmailMessage(subject, body, '[email protected]', ['[email protected]']) email.send() The customer information about the language he uses is available in lang. The default language is en-us, the translations are in french (fr) and german (de). Is there a way to use the translation for the language specified in lang for body and subject then switch back to en-us? For example: lang is 'de'. The subject and body should get the strings specified in the 'de' translation files.

  Magento, IMHO, represents a PHP system that is built on well thought-out coding principles - reuseable design patterns being one of them. In terms of an example of a PHP system, I think it can be considered pretty cutting edge and therefore worth considering from an architectural point of view. As I understand it, there are many design patterns that are available to the OOP developer. Seeing such patterns being put to use in an open-source system such as Magento allows a developer to view examples of such patterns in real use and in situ, rather than in examples that can sometimes be rather achedemic, and even a little misleading. As such, I am wondering what patterns, other than the ones I have listed below, Magento programmers have used when developing for Magento. As a note, I understand that some of these patterns are in place as a consequence of being built on the Zend Framework, MVC / Front Controller being a couple of them, The obvious ones are: Factory: $product = Mage::getModel('catalog/product'); Singleton: $category = Mage::getSingleton('catalog/session'); Registry: $currentCategory = Mage::registry('current_category');

• session timeout urgent help needed

  hi! in my website when session gets timed out nd after that we click on any button or perform action it gives random error as input string not in correct format.. how do i resolve problem?? i've 500 pages in whole website...and 20 master pages...so can't check for session on each page... i wrote code in global.asax application_error method...tht if error occur and session is null than redirect to default page..it worked....but when page is in frame..it does not refresh the whole pahe..only frame redirects the page...so the panel of master page remains same..

While bound to Value, I've tried adding: RaisePropertyChanged("Value"); to the AddItemCommand and RemoveItemCommand, but this doesn't work, the ListView won't get updated. What is the proper way to do this?
