• Cannot connect to secure wireless with Netgear wna3100 USB

  I have installed Ubuntu 11.10. I used a wired connection to download and install all of the updates. When I tried to use a Netgear WNA3100 wireless USB network adapter, it failed. Much searching and trying things I was finally able to get it working by disabling security on my router. I have verified this by disabling security and I was able to connect. When I enabled security (WPA2 PSK), the connection failed. What is necessary to enable security (WPA2 PSK) and still use the Netgear USB interface? • Nautilus is really slow

  Nautilus used to be lightning fast.Now it's dead slow. I have tried upgrading the video card but that does not seem to be the problem. Also I found that there was a problem with the Dropbox uninstall, finally I replace it with pcmanfm which appears to be much faster but the down side is that I no longer have the gwibber social client and a lot of stuff don't work like they use to. Also I completely removed nautilus and couldn't even login to ubuntu to install again nautilus.How can I remove or repair nautilus, and use pcmanfm instead? I have a dell inspiron 1440 3gb ram / disk 300gb / Additionally, why does nautilus run fast when I run it as root? There are no USB devices attached to my computer. Thanks in advance

  I have been wondering whether using SpriteBatch is the best option. Obviously for prototyping or small games it works well. However, I've been wanting to apply techniques such as shaders and lighting to my game. I know you can use shaders to some extent with SpriteSortMode.Immediate, but I'm not sure if you lose power using that. The other major thing is that you cannot store your vertex data in the graphics memory with buffers. In summary, is there an advantage of using VertexTextureNormal (or whatever they're called) structs for vertex data for 2D sprites, or should I stick with SpriteBatch, provided I wish to use shaders?

• Why use 3d matrix and camera in 2D world for 2d geometric figures?

  I'm working in XNA on a 2d isometric world/game and I'm using DrawUserPrimitives to draw some geometric figures... I saw some tutorials about creating dynamic shadows but I didn't understood why they use a "3d" matrix to control the transformations since the figure I'm drawing is in 2d perspective. I know I'm drawing a 2d figure in 3d but I still can't understand if I really need to work with the matrix. Is there any advantage in using a 3d Matrix to control camera and view? Any reason why I can't just update my vertex's positions by using a regular method since the view is always the same... And since I want to work only with single figures, won't this cause all the geometric figures have the same transformations simultaneously?   I'm currently studying engineering in Telecommunications and Electronics and we have migrated from assembler to C in microprocessor programming. I have doubts that this is a good idea. What are some advantages and disadvantages of C compared to assembly? The advantages/disadvantages I see are: Advantages: I can tell that C syntax is a lot easier to learn than Assembler syntax. C is easier to use for making more complex programs. Learning C is somehow more productive than learning assembler cause there is more developing stuff around C than Assembler. Disadvantages: Assembler is a lower level programming language than C,so this makes it a good for programming directly to hardware. Is a lot more flexible alluding you to work with memory,interrupts,micro-registers,etc.

• 410 Responses when your CMS host doesn't support them?

  Sending a 410 responses for a page that no longer exist should make Google stop crawling for that page. The site I am working on has been recently migrated, and very little of the content was migrated. I've already turned the existing content into 301 redirects (the content that is on both the old and the new site), but now I would like to flush the old content from Google's memory by placing 410 responses in it's path when it returns to crawl for them and finds a 404 response. However, I asked our CMS host about it, and they said that our CMS does not support 410 responses. Is there some other way to post a 410 response, like making a dead link 301 redirect to a page that a 410 response in the form of a meta tag?

• Error opening .wmv file

  I tried to open a .wmv file in Thunderbird. I was asked to download files in order to have it accessible. At the end of the installation An error occurred - Location not found. error message displayed with just the OK button available. Now when I press the Play button just the error message displays so I am not sure which packages need to be installed/uninstalled. I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 (32-bit) with open-jdk-7. Error was generated when installing: GStreamer ffmpeg video plugin It seemed that it took a while to have the process completing all steps of the download / install before the error message displayed.

• XAudio2 - Multiple instances of the same sound

  Right now, I'm adding a rudimentary sound engine to my game. So far, I am able to load in a WAV file and play it once, then free up the memory when I close the game. However, the game crashes with a nice ArgumentOutOfBoundsException when I try to play another sound instance. Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: readLength I'm following this tutorial pretty much exactly, but I still keep getting the aforementioned error.   I have Downloaded and Installed Ubuntu last month while downloading codecs for playing Music and Video Formats my Laptop (Dell XPS) crashed. later i again started the system now the problems i face are 1) After Signing in as User/Admin the wallpaper loads while all other windows disappear no UI (task bar and dock) is displayed even after say 30 min. 2) I uninstalled and reinstalled Ubnutu hence there were no problems but when i play Music files the Laptop crashes and the same sequence as above follows this has happened for last 6 times. 3) Whenever the UI disaapears after logging in the Hard Disk starts to heat up and there is considerable increase in power usage of the system. where in the power drain is notable. Please suggest any changes or rectify the issue. Regards Sid

• Is your Xcode4 stable?

  I have upgraded to Xcode4, and I'm experiencing unbelievable situation. Xcode4 crashes per 5 minute. Incredibly slow. Almost impossible to use. Maybe the problem is my hardware configuration. I'm using MacBook Air 3rd with 2GB ram with SSD. It was just fine with Xcode3, but now, it consumes all of memory and crashes too often. Does your Xcode4 stable? If so, please let me know what's your hardware configuration. I want to know whether this problem is caused by hardware configuration or not to decide buy a new mac.

• SEO optimisation problems after Google Panda [on hold]

  I am currently trying to improve a website's SEO after it took quite a hit from the Google Panda upgrades. What are the main things I need to look at improving when trying to improve its ranking in Google? I have already made sure that the pages validate to W3C Standards, minimized css and js and done the obvious meta tags and header optimization but this hasn't made any difference yet. It could possibly be a content issue as the pages currently read much like a brochure and there were some pages with just a video and no text content on them which is also an issue. I've added a rel="nofollow" attribute to the links to these pages although i'm told this doesn't really work anymore. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Cheers!

• Best practices for managing deployment of code from dev to production servers?

  I am hoping to find an easy tool or method, that allow's managing our code deployment. Here are the features I hope this solution has: Either web-based or batch file, that given a list of files, will communicate to our production server, to backup those files in different folders, and zip them and put them in a backup code folder. Then it records the name, date/time, and purpose of the deployment. Then it sends the files to their proper spot on the production server. I don't want too complex an interface to doing the deployment's because then they might never use it. Or is what I am asking for too unrealistic? I just know that my self-discipline isn't perfect, and I'd rather have a tool I can rely on to do what needs to be done, then my own memory of what exact steps I have to take every time. How do you guys, make sure everything get's deployed correctly, and have easy rollback in case of any mistakes?
