  • resizing UITableView to fit content

    I am creating an app which will have a question in a UILabel and a multiple choice answers displayed in UITableView, each row showing a multiple choice. Questions and answers will vary, so I need this UITableView to be dynamic in height. I would like to find a "sizeToFit" work around for the table. Where the table's frame is set to the height of all it's content. Can anyone advise on how I can achieve this? Thank you.

  • Maintaining a pool of DAO Class instances vs doing new operator

    we have been trying to benchmark our application performance in multiple way for sometime now. I always believed that object creation in java using Class.newInstance() was not slow (at least after 1.4 version of java). But we anyways did a test to use newInstance method vs mainitain an object pool of 1000 objects. We did about 200K iterations of loading data from DB using JDBC and populating these objects. I was amazed (even shocked) to see that newInstance code compared to object pool code was almost 10 times slower. These objects represent tables with about 50 fields and all string type. Can someone share there thoughts on this issue as now I am more confused if object pooling of atleast some DAO instances is a better option. The pool size as I see right now should be large enough to meet size of average requests. There is a flip side as my memory footprint will go up but I am beginning to wonder if this kind of idea makes sense atleast for some of the DAO entities representing tables of about 50 or more columns Please share your ideas and let me know if this has been tried by someone or am I missing some point here

  • Loading Facebook fb:profile-pic via AJAX in Facebook Connect site

    After a page loads, I'm making an AJAX request to pull down an HTML chunk that contains tags representing a Facebook user profile picture. I append the result to a point in the DOM but the logos don't load, instead all I see is the default silhouette. Here's simply how I'm loading the HTML chunk with jQuery $.ajax({ url: "/facebookprofiles" success: function(result) { $('#profiles').append(result); } }); The HTML that I'm appending is a list of diffs like this: <div class="status Accepted"> <fb:profile-pic class="image" facebook-logo="true" linked="true" size="square" uid="1796055648"></fb:profile-pic> <p> <strong>Corona Kingsly</strong>My Status Update<br/> <span style="font-size: 0.8em">52 minutes ago</span> </p> </div> Any ideas? I assume the fb tags are not being processed once the dom is loaded. Is there any way to make that happen? I'm not seeing any exceptions or errors in my Firebug console. Thanks

  • Saving "heavy" figure to PDF in MATLAB - rendering problem

    I generate a figure in MATLAB with lot amount of points (100000+) and want to save it into a PDF file. With zbuffer or painters renderer I've got very large and slowly opened file (over 4 Mb) - all points are in vector format. Using OpenGL renderer rasterize the figure in PDF, ok for the plot, but not good for text labels. The file size is about 150 Kb. Try this simplified code, for example: x=linspace(1,10,100000); y=sin(x)+randn(size(x)); plot(x,y,'.') set(gcf,'Renderer','zbuffer') print -dpdf -r300 testpdf_zb set(gcf,'Renderer','painters') print -dpdf -r300 testpdf_pa set(gcf,'Renderer','opengl') print -dpdf -r300 testpdf_op The actual figure is much more complex with several axes and different types of plots. Is there a way to rasterize the figure, but keep text labels as vectors? Another problem with OpenGL is that is does not work in terminal mode (-nosplash -nodesktop) under Mac OSX. Looks like OpenGL is not supported. I have to use terminal mode for automation. The MATLAB version I run is 2007b. Mac OSX server 10.4.

    I've got this table: <table id="correctness" style="overflow: hidden;"> <tr><td style="overflow: hidden;"> <div id="correctness-message"></div> <span class="hide"> <button type="button" class="hide" onclick="new DisplayEffect('correctness').Hide(500);">Hide</button> </span> </td> </tr> </table> and a function for resizing the table: function resize(element, size) { element.style.height = size + "px";}; which is called for a certain amount of time (e.g. 1 second) with the ID of table (i.e. "correctness") in order to resize the table from zero height to its full height. This code works in Firefox and Chrome but it doesn't work in IE8. What it does is that it displays right away whole table even thought the height set in "resize" method is much lower. It seems that the cell sets the height of parent table and not the other way around. Is it possible to change the behaviour? I like changing the height of the table better because I can set visibility of the table easily. Thanks for any help!

    I would like your comments and suggestion on this. I am doing the pagination for a page in jsf. The datatable is bound to a Backing Bean property through the "binding" attribute. I have 2 boolean variables to determine whether to render 'Prev' and 'Next' Button - which is displayed below the datatable. When either the 'Prev' or 'Next' button is clicked, In the backing bean I get the bound dataTable property and through which i get the "first" and "rows" attribute of the datatable and change accordingly. I display 5 rows in the page.     Hello everyone: I'm now trapped by a performance optimization lab in the book "Computer System from a Programmer's Perspective" described as following: In a N*N matrix M, where N is multiple of 32, the rotate operation can be represented as: Transpose: interchange elements M(i,j) and M(j,i) Exchange rows: Row i is exchanged with row N-1-i A example for matrix rotation(N is 3 instead of 32 for simplicity): ------- ------- |1|2|3| |3|6|9| ------- ------- |4|5|6| after rotate is |2|5|8| ------- ------- |7|8|9| |1|4|7| ------- ------- A naive implementation is: #define RIDX(i,j,n) ((i)*(n)+(j)) void naive_rotate(int dim, pixel *src, pixel *dst) { int i, j; for (i = 0; i < dim; i++) for (j = 0; j < dim; j++) dst[RIDX(dim-1-j, i, dim)] = src[RIDX(i, j, dim)]; } I come up with an idea by inner-loop-unroll. Speed up of this version is 1.85x, overwhelming all the loop-unroll version. Here are the questions: In the inner-loop-unroll version, why does increment slow down if the unrolling factor increase, especially change the unrolling factor from 8 to 16, which does not effect the same when switch from 4 to 8? Does the result have some relationship with depth of the CPU pipeline? If the answer is yes, could the degrade of increment reflect pipeline length? What is the probable reason for the optimization of data-zone version? It seems that there is no too much essential difference from the original naive version. EDIT: My test environment is Intel Centrino Duo processor and the verion of gcc is 4.4 Any advice will be highly appreciated! Kind regards!

    I've created a subclass of UITableViewCell to create some custom appearance and UI functionality ('swipe to reveal delete button'). Some of the cells are disclosure/detail disclosure type, and have a UIButtonTypeDetailDisclosure etc added manually. I cannot use the table view controllers' UITableViewCellAccessory for row at index path method. The question is, how do I set the target of these manually added buttons so that they correctly send the didSelectRowAtIndexPath to their table view controller?

    I read docs about java recorsion and I thought I have understood it, but when I try to use it in the following example, it does not work as expected. I a class account, which has amount and can have forther subAccount. I would have implemented one method getSum, which has to return the summ of the amount of the account and amount of all of its subaccount.   • How to catch GMail auto-refresh

    I wrote a userscript to highlight the current row in GMail (indicated by the arrow). Unfortunately the highlight will only stay until GMail Inbox is auto-refreshed, which happens quite often. Is there a way to catch that event so I could reapply the highlighting? I don't want to do it on timeout. There is another userscript that does that and it loads up CPU.

    I have the following query: select column_name, count(column_name) from table group by column_name having count(column_name) > 1; What would be the difference if I replaced all calls to count(column_name) to count(*)? This question was inspired by a previous one. Edit: To clarify the accepted answer (and maybe my question), using count(*) in this case returns an extra row in the result that contains a null and the count of null values in the column.

    My task consists of two parts. First I have to create globbal char array of 100 elements, and insert some text to it using cin. Afterwards calculate amount of chars, and create dedicated array with the length of the inputted text. I was thinking about following solution : char[100]inputData; int main() { cin >> inputData >> endl; int length=0; for(int i=0; i<100; i++) { while(inputData[i] == "\0") { ++count; } } char c = new char[count]; Am I thinking good ? Second part of the task is to introduce in the first program dynamically created array of pointers to all inserted words. Adding a new word should print all the previous words and if there is no space for next words, size of the inputData array should be increased twice. And to be honest this is a bit too much for me. How I can create pointers to words specifically ? And how can I increase the size of global array without loosing its content ? With some temporary array ?

I am using CouchDB version 0.10.0 on Ubuntu 9.10

  • iPhone: Using a NSMutableArry in the AppDelegate as a Global Variable

    What i'm trying to accomplish is to have an NSMutableArray defined in the AppDelegate. I then have two UIViewControllers. One view is responsible for displaying the array from the AppDelegate. The other view is used to add items to the array. So the array starts out to be empty. View1 doesn't display anything because the array is empty. The User goes to View2 and adds an item to the array in AppDelegate. Then when the user goes back to View1 it now displays one item. Here is how I'm trying to accomplish this @interface CalcAppDelegate : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate> { UIWindow *window; UITabBarController *tabBarController; NSMutableArray *globalClasses; } @property (nonatomic,retain) NSMutableArray *globalClasses; My other view In the viewDidload I set the array in my View to be the one in the AppDelegate. In an effort to retain values. allCourses = [[NSMutableArray alloc]init]; CalcAppDelegate *appDelegate = (CalcAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; allCourses = appDelegate.globalClasses; Then I would update my allCourses array by adding a new item. Then try to set the array in the AppDelegate to be equal to the modified one. CalcAppDelegate *appDel = (CalcAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; NSLog(@"Size before reset %d",[appDel.globalClasses count]); appDel.globalClasses = allCourses; NSLog(@"Size after reset %d",[appDel.globalClasses count]); What I'm seeing that's returned is 2 in the before, and 2 after. So it doesn't appear to be getting updated properly. Any suggestions?

  • Table cell doesn't obey vertical-align CSS declaration when it contains a floated element

    I am trying to create a table, where each cell contains a big floated h1 on the left side, and a larger amount of small text to the right of the big text, vertically centered. However, the small text is showing up at the top of each cell, despite that it has a "vertical-align: middle" declaration. When I remove the big floated element, everything looks fine. I tested it in recent versions of IE, Firefox, and Safari, and this happened in every case. Why is this happening? Does anyone know of a way around it?   • Use a vector to index a matrix without linear index

    G'day, I'm trying to find a way to use a vector of [x,y] points to index from a large matrix in MATLAB. Usually, I would convert the subscript points to the linear index of the matrix.(for eg. Use a vector as an index to a matrix in MATLab) However, the matrix is 4-dimensional, and I want to take all of the elements of the 3rd and 4th dimensions that have the same 1st and 2nd dimension. Let me hopefully demonstrate with an example: Matrix = nan(4,4,2,2); % where the dimensions are (x,y,depth,time) Matrix(1,2,:,:) = 999; % note that this value could change in depth (3rd dim) and time (4th time) Matrix(3,4,:,:) = 888; % note that this value could change in depth (3rd dim) and time (4th time) Matrix(4,4,:,:) = 124; Now, I want to be able to index with the subscripts (1,2) and (3,4), etc and return not only the 999 and 888 which exist in Matrix(:,:,1,1) but the contents which exist at Matrix(:,:,1,2),Matrix(:,:,2,1) and Matrix(:,:,2,2), and so on (IRL, the dimensions of Matrix might be more like size(Matrix) = (300 250 30 200) I don't want to use linear indices because I would like the results to be in a similar vector fashion. For example, I would like a result which is something like: ans(time=1) 999 888 124 999 888 124 ans(time=2) etc etc etc etc etc etc I'd also like to add that due to the size of the matrix I'm dealing with, speed is an issue here - thus why I'd like to use subscript indices to index to the data. I should also mention that (unlike this question: Accessing values using subscripts without using sub2ind) since I want all the information stored in the extra dimensions, 3 and 4, of the i and jth indices, I don't think that a slightly faster version of sub2ind still would not cut it..

    The same way I now have plt.connect('button_press_event', self.on_click) I would like to have something like plt.connect('each_five_seconds_event', self.on_timer) How can I achieve this in a way that's most similar to what I've shown above?     I have two List of array string. I want to be able to create a New List (newList) by combining the 2 lists. But it must meet these 3 conditions: 1) Copy the contents of store_inventory into newList. 2) Then if the item names in store_inventory & new_acquisitions match, just add the two quantities together and change it in newList. 3) If new_acquisitions has a new item that does not exist in store_inventory, then add it to the newList. The titles for the CSV list are: Item Name, Quantity, Cost, Price. The List contains an string[] of item name, quantity, cost and price for each row.     Having those tables: table_n1: | t1_id | t1_name | | 1 | foo | table_n2: | t2_id | t1_id | t2_name | | 1 | 1 | bar | I need a query that gives me two result: | names | | foo | | foo / bar | But i cant figure out the right way. I wrote this one: SELECT CONCAT_WS(' / ', table_n1.t1_name, table_n2.t2_name) AS names FROM table_n1 LEFT JOIN table_n2 ON table_n2.t1_id = table_n1.t1_id that works for an half: this only return the 2° row (in the example above): | names | | foo - bar | This query return the 'father' (table_n1) name only when it doesnt have 'childs' (table_n2). How can i fix it?

  • Change the height of a list item when it's in edit mode

    I have custom list item renderers and editors for a List control. I need for the editor to have a greater height then the renderer, i.e., the row should expand(in height) when it goes into edit mode. However, even when the list's variableRowHeight is set to true, it doesn't do what I want: the height seems to be based on the height of the renderer only, not the editor. Is there any way to do what I want?
