• Multiple NSURLDownloads with Progress

  Hello, I'm trying to build a small app which allows downloading of multiple files at the same time while displaying them in a custom NSTableView. This works, i've done this by using an NSEnumerator, but I struggle at getting the progress right. It's calculated correctly, but it's not done individually for every download, instead they're added up. The way I've tried to set the subtitles containing the progress is by loading them into a separate array and then inserting/replacing objects containing the progress, but here I run into another problem - I don't know how to get the index of the object that's being downloaded, so I can't differentiate between the progresses.   I have a aplication that like firefox, can be enchanced from plugins available from internet. Now, I want to provide in Delphi (2010) a dialog similar to the download from firefox. I have no skills in build graphical controls. Using the standard controls of Delphi, what could be the best way... using a TListView/TStringGrid with custom draw or... The idea is show a icon in the left, a title with subtitle with 1-3 lines on the middle and date/version on the rigth. That row must be selectable and that is all.

• Amazon AWS S3 to Force Download Mp3 File instead of Stream It

  Hi everybody, I'm using Amazon AWS S3 to put the mp3 file then allow our site visitor to download the mp3 from Amazon AWS. I use S3Fox to manage the file, everything seems working fine until recently we got many complaints from visitor that the mp3 was streamed via the browser instead of displaying browser save dialog. I try for some mp3 and notice that for some mp3, the save dialog box is appear, and for some others they're streamed via browser. What can I do to force that the Mp3 file will be downloaded instead of streamed via web browser.... Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

• Better algorithm for estimating download time

  We've all seen the download time running estimate that initially says something like "7 days", but keeps dropping wildly (e.g. "23 hours", "45 minutes", "1 min. 50 sec", etc) with each successive estimation as the chunks are downloaded. To avoid these initial (alarming) estimates, there are techniques one could try like suppressing display of the first n estimates, or waiting for the delta between estimates to drop below some threshold before you start displaying them, but these don't seem like a general, robust solution. There are corner cases involving too few samples, or samples that actually are wildly varying... I think I recall a general solution for this kind of thing in mathematics (statistics?) that reduced or eliminated these wild values. Does anyone know?

  All I need to do is download some basic text-based and image files from a web server that has a self-signed SSL certificate. I have been trying to figure out how to use HttpClient to do this, but getting the SSL to work is a nightmare that seems to be way too much trouble for such a simple task. Is there a better way to perform these file downloads? Perhaps through a WebView or Browser feature?   How do you set the headers for downloads in ruby/rails? In php I'd set the header for an mp3 download like this: header("Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary"); header("Content-type: audio/mp3"); header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=\"$songname.mp3\""); header("Content-Length: " . $size); @readfile("http://example.com/12345.mp3"); Seems like there should be an easy should an easy solution. I did find this: response.headers['Content-type'] = 'Content-type: audio/mp3' But I'm not sure how/where the readfile would come into play and other headers. Thanks!

• [PHP] Using cURL to download large XML files

  I'm working with PHP and need to parse a number of fairly large XML files (50-75MB uncompressed). The issue, however, is that these XML files are stored remotely and will need to be downloaded before I can parse them. Having thought about the issue, I think using a system() call in PHP in order to initiate a cURL transfer is probably the best way to avoid timeouts and PHP memory limits. Has anyone done anything like this before? Specifically, what should I pass to cURL to download the remote file and ensure it's saved to a local folder of my choice?

  Hello, The apache mod_xsendfile is a good solution for what I want but its not working properly. In firefox it serves the file but as download.php (name of the file with the code in). In safari and chrome it serves an empty file. • Download office document without the web server trying to render it

  I'm trying to download an InfoPath template that's hosted on SharePoint. If I hit the url in internet explorer it asks me where to save it and I get the correct file on my disk. If I try to do this programmatically with WebClient or HttpWebRequest then I get HTML back instead. How can I make my request so that the web server returns the actual xsn file and doesn't try to render it in html. If internet explorer can do this then it's logical to think that I can too. I've tried setting the Accept property of the request to application/x-microsoft-InfoPathFormTemplate but that hasn't helped. It was a shot in the dark.

  in a webpage I have a link to let the user download file, such as, "showfile.aspx?filename=xxx" in showfile.aspx, I send the file using Response.OutputStream.Write method. now I get some problem when somebody put this webpage in an IFrame and open in IE, as I checked the code, showfile.aspx is requested twice when clicks the link, and in the second time the cookies of authorization and session Id are missing. I tried to add the p3p header but not working. my question is, is this how the IE designed with iframe? is there anyway to work around? thanks.

  Hi, I had a look in the reference doc, and Spring seems to have pretty good support for sending mail. However, I need to login to a mail account, read the messages, and download any attachments. Is downloading mail attachments supported by the Spring mail API? I know you can do this with the Java Mail API, but in the past I've found that very verbose and unpleasant to work with. EDIT: I've received several replies pointing towards tutorials that describe how to send mail with attachments, but what I'm asking about is how to read attachments from received mail. Cheers, Don

• Downloading HTTP URLs asynchronously in C++

  What's a good way to download HTTP URLs (e.g. such as http://0.0.0.0/foo.htm ) in C++ on Linux ? I strongly prefer something asynchronous. My program will have an event loop that repeatedly initiates multiple (very small) downloads and acts on them when they finish (either by polling or being notified somehow). I would rather not have to spawn multiple threads/processes to accomplish this. That shouldn't be necessary. Should I look into libraries like libcurl? I suppose I could implement it manually with non-blocking TCP sockets and select() calls, but that would likely be less convenient.

• Avoid application becoming unresponsive on download

  Hi I have an application which downloads a file from a network location and then displays that files information. It uses WebClient.DownloadFile to achieve this. The problem is, when the user clicks a button to start the download, the application becomes unresponsive until the file has downloaded. This gives the impression the application may have hung. I would like to seek ideas which would avoid this scenario. Though my solution will need to be 'as quick and cheap as possible' I would be interested in hearing about custom loaders that have been built, or some sort of loading symbol / progress bar / sand time clock thingy : ) Thanks for reading.

  I already have a method in my webservice that returns a byte[] containing only the bytes of the file downloading. The invocation is something like: http://www.mysite.com/myWebservice.asmx with: string fileId = "123"; bytes[] fileContent = myWebservice.Download(fileId); What I wanted to do is be able to invoke this method or other (to be made) on a aspx webpage and be able to open a browser window containing the real content of the file. i.e. Most files are TXT and PDF. • Android Source code download error

  Hi all I have followed the instructions on the Android website on how to download the latest android source code files but it gives errors when i run this command: repo init -u git://android2.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git It gives the following error: Getting repo ... from git://android.git.kernel.org/tools/repo.git android.git.kernel.org[0: 199.6.1.176]: errno=Connection refused android.git.kernel.org[0: 130.239.17.12]: errno=Connection refused fatal: unable to connect a socket (Connection refused) On checking forums for its resolution, i was told that port 9418 was being blocked. I use Ubuntu 10.04 and ensured that the firewall wasnt blocking the port and also enabled the port and the above IP addresses. I also spoke to the networking peeps who ensured that no traffic from the internet is being blocked. I would be glad if i could get directions on how to proceed next. Many thanks as you respond.   I'm trying to implement a file download with Rails. I want to eventually migrate this code to using S3 to serve the file. I've copied the Rails send_file code almost verbatim and I cannot seem to get it to stream a file to the user. What happens is that it sends 'a' file to the user, but the downloaded file itself simply contains the text.inspect of the Proc: # What am I doing wrong here? options = {} options[:length] = File.size(file.path) options[:filename] = File.basename(file.path) send_file_headers! options render :status => 200, :text => Proc.new { |response, output| len = 4096 File.open(file.path, 'rb') do |fh| while buf = fh.read(len) output.write(buf) end end } Ps: I've read in a number of other posts that it's not advisable to send files through the Rails stack, and if possible serve using the web server, or in the case of S3 use the hashed URL it can provide.   Hi, I am building an app that plays multiple video files, But I would like to know How do you download a video file (100mb - 300mb) from a server into the application's bundle so it can later be locally referred to in code? The reason I want this type of a set up in my app is that I don't want the app binary to be made unnecessarily large due to including videos some users may not want. Also does this violate any of apple's terms? Also would it be simple to implement a progress view with this kind of set up and if so how? Any help is appreciated.

The files are then loaded into SQL. We want to automate this process. Now the loading of the files into SQL I can do, but I am not sure how I can automate logging onto the website entering my user details and collecting the files. There are about 6000 pdf on that domain and most of them don't have an html link (either they have removed the link or they never put one in the first place). I know there are about 6000 files because I'm googling: filetype:pdf site:*.adomain.com However, Google lists only the first 1000 results. I believe there are two ways to achieve this: a) Use Google. However, how I can get all 6000 results from Google? Maybe a scraper? (tried scroogle, no luck) b) Skip Google and search directly on domain for pdf files. How do I do that when most them are not linked?
