  I have HP proliant ML 350 servers. We have 8 remote locations where users connect and log on to our server through DYNDNS to access our company ERP's to conduct day to day work. The base of our company ERP's is oracle for which we have a separate server.Now the problem is day by day the load on the server is increasing and the speed is getting slower and slower and users are facing a lot of issues . so I are planning to implement Sonic wall VPN. • Software for RAID Failure Alerts?

  I have two 256 GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD disks in a RAID 1 array. I would like to receive a notification if one of the disks in the array fails. Can anybody recommend an application I can install on the server to fire an email if such an event occurs? Here are some additional specs: Supermicro X9SCM-IIF motherboard utilising the hardware RAID controller. OS = Windows 2012 Standard Also is it possible to simulate a disk failure by pulling it out of the bay? SSDs appear to fail close together when in a mirrored config so I'd like to know ASAP if one goes down so I can swap them out with minimum delay. UPDATE 26th June 2013 ------------------------ None of the software that ships with the Supermicro X9SCM-* motherboards offer support for RAID monitoring. As has been pointed out here, these boards are built on an Intel chipset for RAID and so I installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology that supports automated email notifications on RAID failure http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/cs-020784.htm One small issue, the software only allows you to send email notifications without SMTP authentication. • System requirements for running windows 8 (basic office use) in virtualbox (ubuntu as host os)

  I want to run windows 8 as a guest os with virtualbox on some thinkpad (haven't bought one yet) running Ubuntu 12.04. Apart from virtualizing windows 8 (mostly just for use with the office suite app) my needs are very modest, I don't need much more than emacs and a browser. What I'd like to know is what kind of specs will be necessary to run windows 8 well as a vm, using the office apps. It would be a shame to waste money on overpowered hardware. Are there any official guidelines from oracle or windows on this? Would this lenovo x220, for example, be sufficiently strong? The specs below were taken from this review. • Problem booting hard drive after installing Centos from USB Stick

  Here is the situation, I created a Centos Live 5.4 Bootable USB drive. I used this to install Centos on a HP Netbook. BTW: the Netbook doesn't have a CDRom so I used the usb key. When the system goes to write the Grub boot loader to disk, it wants to write the boot loader to the usb drive (/dev/sda), not the hard disk (/dev/hda). I do have the option of writing the boot loader to /dev/hda, (not to the mbr!) but when I reboot I get an load error and the Grub prompt. How can I get Centos booting from the hard disk instead of using the USB key. Thanks.

• Update to kernel 3.12 seems to fail: uname reports old rc7

  I currently run Xubuntu 13.10 with kernel 3.12 rc7. Today I tried updating to the latest 3.12 kernel (non-rc), but this seems to fail. When installing the image and headers I see the following error passing by: ... run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms 3.12.0-031200-generic /boot/vmlinuz-3.12.0-031200-generichis Error! The dkms.conf for this module includes a BUILD_EXCLUSIVE directive which does not match this kernel/arch. This indicates that it should not be built. ... After rebooting, when I do uname -r or cat /proc/version it tells me that I'm still running on the old rc7 kernel. Since my microphone wasn't working on my Sony Vaio Pro 13 I did download and install the latest ALSA drivers using the oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms package which seem to fix the problem (with the mic). Maybe this has something to do with it? I also tried removing the package using sudo apt-get purge oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms but no success.

• Why are my videos playing speeded up with no audio, but work fine if I log in as a guest?

  Since the start of this week I have been experiencing a glitch in the multimedia on my Samsung R518 laptop. I have 2 problems: Videos in every player are speeded up around 2 or 4 times (including youtube.com (both HTML5 and flash variants), any other video on the web and videos on my laptop played by Totem Media Player), exception is VLC player, but 2nd problem does concern even that. There is no sound - simple as that (with or without headphones plugged in). These all problems are now, and has not seen before, I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 after it was possible, and from start I didn't have anything from this - it just started in this week. I haven't even putted new software in. I have more or less solved the question (kind of) - I just logged in as a guest - and it all works, but when I make a new user - it does not. Please help me. • 12.10 no audio via hdmi and video speeds up

  I have a laptop with an ati radeon 4200, on 12.04 everything worked fine, since upgrading to 12.10 I cannot get sound over the hdmi. When I switch to hdmi audio the video speeds up to about 2x. I can use the speakers in my laptop and watch video via hdmi with no problems. Things I have tried: Various tutorials to install the AMD/ATI drivers, all of which resulted in low graphics mode. Checked that everything is properly set in alsamixer, the sound utility and - installed pavucontrol and checked everything in there. Verified the output from cat /proc/asound/cards looks normal When I initially upgraded there was a plethora of problems which I believe were due to the old proprietary driver still being used but not compatible, after a few hours trying to fix that I decided just to back up and do a fresh install which works great except for the above stated problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! • HTML Manifest for Content Folios

  I recently worked on a project to create a custom content folio renderer in WebCenter Content. It needed to output the native files in the folio along with a manifest file in HTML format which would list the contents of the folio along with any designated metadata and a relative link to the file within the download.  This way a person could hand someone the folio download and it would be a self-contained package with all of the content and a single file to display the information on the contents.  The default Zip rendition of the folio will output the web-viewable version of the file with an HDA formatted file for each one. And unless you are fluent in HDA or have a tool to read them, they are difficult to consume. I thought this might be useful for others, so I'm posting a copy of the component here. Beyond the standard instructions for installing a component, there is an environment configuration file (folionativezipwithmanifestrenderer_environment.cfg) which has a couple of options. FolioMetadataManifestList - This is a comma separated list of metadata fields (system or custom) that should be included in the manifest file. FolioMetadataManifestUseOriginalFilename - (True or False) If set to True, the filenames in the zip file will be based on the original filename as it was checked into WebCenter Content.  If False, it will use the 'Name' of the item as defined within the Folio.  This is usually the Title of the item. The component also includes the source code, so feel free to use this as a reference for creating other interesting folios.

• Audio not working in 12.10

  I did a clean install of 12.10, when I open Sound Settings in gnome the only device in the list is "Dummy Output", and sound is not working. Sound worked fine out of the box in 12.04 I ran alsamixer, it says my card is "HDA Intel", and chip is "Realtek ALC880". The alsamixer playback output was set to mute at first, unmuting did not fix. I checked out the info at http://www.unixmen.com/2012003-howto-resolve-nosound-problem-on-ubuntu/ as suggested on a similar question, I've done everything there except installing the ubuntu audio dev team driver. Should I try install this? • No sound, can't adjust alsamixer volume

  I have no sound on my ubuntu and I do not know why. I saw a lot of posts about that, I tried a lots of solutions that I found (especially this one) but it still does not work. I suspect alsamixer. • New graphics card (GTX 760) slowing down entire PC

  My new graphics card is making my PC totally unusable. It boots up really slowly, and when the windows screen comes on, the mouse lags really far behind. Nothing opens at a normal speed. However, when I put in my 5-year old graphics card, it all works fine. I'm currently using a Foxconn Renaissance LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Motherboard, Intel Motherboard Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz LGA 1366 130W Processor, and a EVGA SuperNOVA 850G2 80PLUS Gold Certified ATX12V/EPS12V 850W Power Supply . I know it can't be the power supply, because I just bought it today to try to fix the problem. I've also installed the newest version of BIOS available for my motherboard. I've also seen extreme variations in CPU while the new graphics card is in, and when the old graphics card is installed, it is much calmer. Any thoughts?

  I'm comparing these two Apple laptops: MacBook Pro (13", 2011 model): 2.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor with 4MB shared L3 cache 4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM AMD Radeon HD 6770M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory on 2.4GHz configuration MacBook Air (13", 2011 model): 1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with 3MB shared L3 cache 4GB of 1333MHz DDR3 onboard memory Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory There's definitely a gap between them in terms of CPU speed and graphics, but what practical difference would this make on a day-to-day basis? On the one hand, I love the sleek, thin appearance of the Air. On the other hand, I don't want a machine that's going to be dog-slow when doing tasks such as running Virtual Machines, dual-booting to Windows and running multiple instances of Visual Studio, and maybe some light gaming. Is there going to be a major difference that makes the MacBook Pro a more attractive purchase?

• Driverpack Solution makes a whole bunch of programs

  I am using Driver Pack solution 12.3 to update my drivers. I used it and installed 55 drivers. I noticed that there are now several dozen new entries in add/remove programs under the name Windows Driver Package - Intel hdc, Windows Driver Package - Intel System, and Windows Driver Package - Intel USB with the driverpack solution logo next to them. When I hit uninstall for any of these, it says all devices using this driver will be removed, and I am scared of uninstalling anything I do not know about. I have no system restore points before I updated my driver. Will these extra driver packages slow down my computer or take up extra disk space? Can I uninstall them safely? I am using Windows 8, so refreshing the computer is an option.

• Will Dolphin emulator run (smoothly) on this machine?

  Product Specs: Intel® NM10 Express chipset /w Intel® Atom® D525 (dual-core, 1.8 GHz) I think the most I can put in there for RAM is 4 GB. (They don't make 8 GB SODIMM do they?) The Dolphin site is pretty vague about requirements: Windows XP or higher, or Linux, or MacOSX Intel Fast CPU with SSE2. GPU with Pixel Shader 2.0 or greater. Some integrated graphics chips work but it depends on the model (and only with DirectX 9). I'm trying to make a light-weight quiet little machine for streaming video and playing eumulators, and I'm trying to figure out the minimum requirements I will need to do what I want. I know I'm not supposed to ask for product recommendations here, so if you could just advise the minimum requirements in terms of CPU, graphics card, and RAM, that'd be helpful.

• nVidia driver is not installed for x64 Windows 7 (Vaio VGN-SZ460N)

  I just upgraded memory to 4GB for Sony Vaio VGN-SZ460N laptop and trying to install Windows 7 x64. All works fine with default drivers, except video - I am not able to set resolution more than 1024x768. Technical specification says that this model is using: Chipset : Intel® 945GM Processor : NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7400 notebook graphics processing unit (GPU) and Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 I was trying to use Intel 945GM driver, for Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and get error: This computer does not meet the mininum requirements for installing the software Also, I was trying to download nVidia GeForce Go 7400 x64 but it says that there is no compatible hardware. Actually, it has disclaimer that those drivers doesn't work for Sony vaio and recomendation to use OEM website. Sony website has only 32-bit version of driver which says that it cannot be installed and x64 should be used... Any ideas?

  I would like to know how to force-restart a PC that has crashed/hung and become completely non-responsive, using 2nd-generation vPro technology. Assume there is a second, fully responsive PC on the same LAN that can be accessed remotely to assist. Specifically, I am considering purchasing a PC with an i7-2860QM CPU, which is vPro-enabled (according to Intel).   I have ESXi 4.0 running on an Intel DX58S0 Mothboardboard with an Intel Core i7 930 processor. VT-d is also enabled. I have three drives in the system, drive 0 is used for ESXi. Drive 1 and 2 contain data from an older machine and show up under the "Storage Adapters" section in configuration. I would like to allow a guest machine to access the data on these drives (as nativly as possible). I have enabled passthrough of the motherboard's built in SATA controller (Intel/Marvell 88SE6121 ). This controller shows up in my guest OS, but the guest shows no drives aside from the normal virtual drive. I have tried a Linux guest and Windows7. I have also configured the host machine to try IDE/RAID/ACHI modes for the SATA controller. Any ideas how I can configure one of my guests to get at the raw data on these drives?

• Wrong screen resolution with HDMI output to HDTV

  I own an HDTV with a native resolution of 1360x768. Sometimes I plug in my laptop to watch movies, and I used to do it with a VGA cable. I've had no problem setting the laptop to the TV native resolution with the VGA cable (1360x768). Having acquired an HDMI cable recently, I can't go past 1280x720, and if I do, the TV displays "invalid format". At 1280x720, the image is viewable but not centered, so for example I can't see the windows taskbar or titlebars. I've tried both cables (VGA and HDMI) with the same settings: Laptop's display turned off and trying to set the Tv's native resolution. What could I try to fix this issue? Could it be a faulty cable? (I'm using a Thinkpad with Windows 7) EDIT: My graphics adapter appears listed as Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Searching for my laptop's model yields Intel GMA 4500MHD as the graphic card) I'm downloading a driver update from Intel's website. I'll report my progress when I check its behavior tomorrow.

  Assuming I am using the following equipment... motherboard with HDMI/DVI & no embedded graphics discrete graphics card (nVidia or ATI) on PCI-E slot Intel CPU with integrated graphics ...where should I plug my monitor into the computer? Presumably, I'll get the fastest speed on games connected directly to the graphics card. But there is also power savings when connecting to the motherboard and accessing the Intel on-board graphics. I've read that some motherboards can switch automatically between the Intel graphics and discrete graphics. Is that something that works well, and where do I connect the monitor to enable that?

• How to make my display Grayscale?

  I want to reduce the saturation of my laptop monitor to the point that it is almost grayscale. That's the goal. Intel and Asus don't have an answer. Asus Splendid and the intel graphics control panel can increase the saturation, but not lower it. I would prefer a software solution, although I DIY'ed a vga grayscale adapter for my desktop. I have an Asus UL30A with an Intel GMA 4500MHD. I know that the latest ATI cards, windotosh's and high end nvidia cards all support control panel desaturation. Why? black and white makes me 3 times more productive.

• Windows 7 - all usb devices go to sleep im idle mode

  A strange thing happened after a few updates to the system: Intel rapid storage SSD firmware update Intel Ethernet adapter update GPU Intel update When the computer turns off the screen (after 5 min), an unknown time later, all the USB devices stop working. Sound card Mouse Keybord etc. I can't turn them back on, so I can't wake up the screen or do anything except turn the computer off and back on. I checked my power save profile and all is OK there. I changed in the Device Manager, the Allow USB to sleep in all the hubs. How can I fix this??

For additional information regarding the subject, visit Wikipedia. My Answer: Any computer that has two CPUs or two “cores“ is known as Dual Core. Core Duo is a brand name of Intel for Dual Core. Core 2 Duo is simply a higher version of Core Duo. (e.g. for Pentium brand, it`s like Pentium I, Pentium II, etc.) The computer I am using now has Core 2 Duo. Intel has launched a new brand, which they call i3, i5, and i7.  Here, the numbers are not related to the number of cores; rather, they show the range of the CPU. I3 is of low range and i7 is of high range. Feel free to add more details by adding valuable comments here. And if you still want to ask why I created this blog post, well, I mentioned that I was waiting for 25 questions threshold to hit, before I write about this subject which I didn`t really plan to write about.   I have been using Ubuntu since Hardy Heron (8.04). I used Natty, Oneiric with Unity. But When I recently (more than 1 month now) upgraded My Ubuntu to Precise (12.04), the performance of my laptop is not satisfactory. It is too unresponsive compared to older releases. For example, the Unity in 12.04 is very unresponsive. Sometimes, it requires 2 seconds to show up the dash (which was not the case with Natty, though people always saying that Natty's version of Unity is buggiest). I am assuming that, May be my 1GB RAM now becomes too low to run Unity of Precise. But I also think, Since Unity is improved in Precise, It may not be the case. So, I am not sure. Do you have any ideas? Will upgrading RAM fix it? How much I need if upgrade is required? Laptop model: "Lenovo 3000 Y410" Graphic : "Intel GMA X3100" on Intel 965GM Chipset. RAM/Memory : "1 GB DDR2" (1 slot empty). Swap space : 1.1GB Resolution: 1280x800 widescreen Shared RAM for Graphics: 256 MB as below output suggests $ dmesg | grep AGP [ 0.825548] agpgart-intel 0000:00:00.0: AGP aperture is 256M @ 0xd0000000
