As I am still fighting with Conficker infection on my Win Server 2003.
I will like to temporally disable scheduled task services on server.
Until I can be sure that infection of network is over.
I am running two domain controllers in a windows 2003 r2 infrastructure. The main domain controller with the global catalog role went down and I had to reformat it. Now I am facing issues with creating new users in the active directory. I think I must create a global catalog but how? or is it possible since the original domain controller is not there anymore?
Thanks in advance
I have a Windows 2003 server that gives the following error every time I try to connect over remote desktop:
The system cannot log you on due to the following error:
The specified domain either does not exist of could not be contacted.
Please try again or consult your system administrator.
What is the most likely cause of this?
Connecting to domain accounts on this server over the console* works normally.
*In this case the VMWare console
If I have a group policy, and add a group/user/machine etc to that group policy, how long is it until all domain controllers have that change in effect?
This is a Windows 2003 Domain set up with controllers at different geographic locations (Each with a different L3 network).
I realize it probably depends, but how do I figure out how long it generally takes for my given setup? Also, is there an event I can check to see if it has a reached a particular domain controller?
I can't access any tables on my oracle database.
When selecting the table product I get ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
I have tried this solution but I don't have sufficiënt rights to add a new user. I get ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
I am logged on as ADMIN to oracle application express.
The environment we use is windows server 2003.
What can I do to 1) access my tables and 2) get back the administration rights I am supposed to have?
When I calculate the sum of numbers in the column G of a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet by using the formula =SUM(G1,G31) ,column G32 prints the date (0-Jan-00).
Is there any way in which the sum of numbers in the column G can be calculated?
I am using MS excel 2003 SP3.
Microsoft Outlook 2003:
I used to have two profiles with my Outlook, but I deleted it and now only have one. It is still asking me for what profile to choose. I have tried selecting the option to set it as my default multiple times, yet it still asks me. How can I stop it from asking me?

Could it be framework issues
Dell computer with Windows 7 and Outlook 2003. I recently added a smart card reader to my computer for the National Guard so that I can access some military sites that require a smart card to log in. Now, every time Outlook attempts to download any mail from my civilian AT&T account (a pop e-mail server), I get a message asking me to "Insert a smart card". I've traced it to the send/receive feature (specifically receiving e-mails) but can find no reason that Outlook should be looking for a smart card.
I am looking for Windows based backup software with functionality like Zmanda or other multi-platform network backup software program. Open source or free software is always preferred.
We need to be able to backup files from linux and windows servers as well as MySQL databases. Using samba is completely possible. Software needs to run on Windows Server 2003.
We have a windows 2003 AD and are using Folder redirection to redirect the users My Documents to a share. Is there a way to save certain filetypes (*.mp3, *.avi) or folders (My Music, My Pictures) on the user's hard disk instead of saving on the netwerk share?
I'm aware of the GPO setting 'Exclude directories in roaming profile' but I'm not sure if that will do what I want (we're using redirected folders)
Had a thing at work today on a Windows Server 2003 box. In IIS Manager I'm trying to create an application for a directory. So I've brought up the properties dialog and clicked the "Create" button and it did absolutely nothing - no error, the application name box stays greyed out and there's no gear icon on the folder. Also there was no event log message.
Has anyone seen this happen or know of a solution?
I have a problem with a LTO 3 Tape Drive. I'm using Brightstor ArcServe Backup software with Windows Server 2003.
Sometimes, the scheduled backups will stop working and going into "devices" inside this software reveals that the Tape Drive is offline. The only way to make it work again is uninstalling the Tape Drive's driver and rebooting the server: Windows then auto recognizes and installs the required drivers and the Tape Drive works again.
Has anyone ever encountered a similar problem?
I have 20 PCs (Windows XP) in remote locations connecting to the same server (Windows Server 2003) using Remote Desktop over a VPN. On just one of the PCs the remote desktop screen flashes (redraws) multiple times after connecting, the others don't. The screen resolution is the same: local is 800x600 32bit; RDP file is set to full screen, 256 color; remote when connected is 800x600 8bit color.
Any suggestions what the problem might be, or what to investigate next?
Is it possible to connect two servers running for example Windows Server 2003/2008 together. For example they are seen on the network as one server with the combination of all HDD from each server?
Example:
\\Server1 - 1 x 1tb hdd
\\Server2 - 1 x 1tb hdd
I would like users of the network to be able to store their documents on both servers for load balancing. So basically a RAID between the two servers?
Any help would be appreciated.
I have several Windows Server 2003 Terminal servers to service our domain users.
Sometimes the Default User profile (C:\Documents and Settings\Default User) gets filled with tempoary internet files, so when a new user logs in, he gets a 1GB profile (instead of 20MB) that fills up the server fast.
Why is it the default user profile gets filled up with files like that, by who and how do i prevent this?
I just installed 4 1.5TB hard disks (WD) in two servers (2 in each). Upon reboot they are not showing up in the disk manager whatsoever.
I'm running Windows Server 2003 EE (32bit) with 8GB ram. They both currently have mirrored 300GB sata disks. Why aren't they being recognized? Is there a disk size limit for win2k3 r2?
I have Windows 2003 AD DFS share, sometimes when pasting a file it will not go in to the target folder, it makes a new folder with the same name as the target and puts the copy in that new folder.
Hi,
my OS is Windows Server 2003.
I installed the FTP Service and configure it with the IIS 6.0 Console.
When I deactivate my firewall, all its okay, but when not, I can't get a connection.
Port 21 tcp + udp, port 22 tcp + udp and the whole FTP-Server Application is set as go trouhgt, but don't work. Of course, the FTP ruins on 21.
Any ideas
Whenever I try to click a message in Outlook 2003 or do "New Message" I get a Save As file window and the program stops responding.
This also happens when I try to open Word files.
I've tried rebooting and I've tried to go through the repair process on the Office install disk.
Our internal network folder can take up to 5 seconds to generate a thumbnail for each photo in a network folder. Usually, only 10% of thumbnails actually display; the rest are default jpg icons.
A thumbs.db file already exists inside this folder, so presumably the thumbnails have been generated before. Why do they have to be generated again?
The PC is Win7 64-bit.
The server is Windows 2003 Server SP2.
Hi
I tried to do "Split a Database" and after I clicked on the "Split" button, here is what I got:

In Server 2003:
I would like to make a copy of a pre-existing local group on the server and then modify its users.
How can I make a copy of a group? (with a new name, of course)
Alternatively, is there a way I can copy all the users from one group to another?
