• Unmounting a zfs pool while it is shared with sharenfs

  I have a Solaris (open indiana) system which is getting poor disk write performance. In order to enable ZIL in this version of zfs I need to add a line to /etc/system. This will not take affect until I've unmounted and remounted the zpool. The trick is that this spool is shared via nfs to about 200 other servers to host users' home directories. I can guarantee that no users will be accessing the disks during this period of maintenance but I would like to avoid having to issue an unmount for 200 systems in order to unmount the disk on the Solaris box. My question is, with sharenfs, is it necessary to have all systems disconnected before unmounting the filesystem on the host? If it's possible, how do you go about it? I've tried unmounting already, the normal way, and it reports the disk is busy. There is no lsof in Solaris and pfiles (I think that's what it was) does not show anything obviously using the mounts.

• Cannot Access a Shared Folder Using Windows 2008

  Hi All, I have a NAS drive, and this is sharing some folders. I cannot access those folders from a windows 2008 machine which is on the network. The are both connected to the same network switch. e.g. if I go like this, \\server\ or \\server\folder I get the message 'windows cannot access \\server check the spelling, click diagnose' etc. Error code: 0x80004005 The thing is that I can connect to this shared drive from a windows 7 laptop connected wirelessly to the same network. I can ping the server from windows 2008, but only if I use the IP address, not the server name.

  The community (300 members), cocktailnetwork, has a website, cocktailnetwork.eu and about ten mailing lists. We want to manage the mailing lists from inside the website (lists and subscribers) and link the list's informations with the member profiles on the site. We are on shared hosting. The community members use the lists to send mails to all other members / groups of members. They can subscribe / unsubscribe from a list. The administrators can in addition create / delete / modify lists. Right now I use ezmlm with QmailAdmin, the lists are completly seperated from the website. I could link the data via remote administration commands, but that's not very satisfactory, does not allow the creation of new lists and it's an deprecated feature of our hosting package, sooner or later we'll need to switch anyway. Do You know of an elegant solution for us ? Any web service with a good, stable API ? Thanks.

• Restricting SSRS subscriptions to shared schedules only

  Hi all I'm reasonably new to SQL Server Reporting Services and Report Manager, and completely new to SSRS's Subscriptions. We're running SSRS 2008. Out of the box it seems that a user with the Browser role can create a Subscription to a report and schedule it to run at any time they choose. As an admin I have setup a schedule called "Overnight reports" and have it run every night from 1am. I would like it so that when a regular user creates their Subscription they can only use one of my shared schedules so that their subscription will only run overnight. Is this possible? Thanks -Matt

• Can't access shared drive when connecting over VPN

  I can ping all network devices but it doesn't seem that DNS is resolving their hostnames. ipconfig/ all is showing that I am pointing to the correct dns server. I can "ping "dnsname"" and it will resolve but it wont resolve any other names. Split tunnel is set up so outside DNS is resolving fine So one issue might be DNS but I have the IP address of the server share so I figure I could just get to it that way. example: \10.0.0.1\ well I can't get to it that way either and I get "the specified network name is no longer available" I can ping it but I can't open the share. • Shared mailbox - users cannot create or view subfolders

  I've setup a shared mailbox on our Exchange 2010/SBS2011 server. I've added some users as Full permission-users on this mailbox, and when they open Outlook/login to OWA the mailbox is automatically opened. Great stuff. However, only the Inbox folder is visible, and the alternative to create a folder is grayed out. If they open the mailbox explicitly (for instance in OWA by clicking open other user's mailbox) they can see other folders, as well as create new ones. What configuration is needed to be able to view and create subfolders directly?

  I've seen two approaches to handling the presentation of shared storage to Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster VMs on VMWare vSphere. One is the traditional method of carving out a LUN on your SAN and presenting it to both hosts through the Microsoft ISCSI software initiator. The other method is to make a vmdk on an existing LUN and attach it to both hosts and made it an independent disk so that it isn't affected by snapshots. Is one way the "correct" way, or are both viable? Is there any advantage or disadvantage to doing either?

• Move some iTunes library items to different drive?

  My internal hard drive is somewhat small, and I only regularly listen to a fraction of my iTunes library anyway, so I'd like to keep large portions on it on an external drive for archival purposes. Since dealing with multiple iTunes libraries is somewhat painful, the solution I'm looking for is to move individual items of the library to a different location, without compromising the "Keep organized" and "Copy files" settings. I found an AppleScript that I assume is supposed to do this, Move Files To Folder…, but it instead copies them, and doesn't update the library accordingly. I can do this manually by moving the file, then accessing it in iTunes — it'll prompt me for the new location. I just don't intend to do this one by one for thousands of files.

• VMWARE V2V migration without shared storage

  I would like to do the following: Take Physical box running w2k8r2 and Sql2008R2 and do a P2V on it to a 4.1 Enterprise licensed cluster. --no worries here, I can do that part-- Take the existing physical box that is freed up and install vmware hypervisor 5.0 on it. --again I can do this part-- Do a v2v migration of the VM created in step #1 above from the Enterprise 4.1 Cluster to the standalone host. They are NOT using shared storage. Step #3 is where I'm confused as to what my best option is. I found an article online talking about using Veeam FastSCP and just shutting down the vm on the cluster, removing it from inventory, copying the files over to the new host and then adding it to inventory. Is that the best way to accomplish this?

  I have a file server serving up shared network printers. Never had any issues in the past. I have a specific domain user (just 1) that gets this error when trying to install a specific printer: You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer This user can install all the other printers no problem. All my other domain users can install the printer with no problem. I've removed the driver from the local client and tried again but with the same problem. Even as an administrator I get this error. Is there something I'm missing?

• Accessing WindowsXP shared printer from macbook?

  My new printer is setup on WindowsXP, it works and it is configured as a shared printer. I then setup a printer from Mac OSX 10.6.3 using the approved driver from the setup CD. I browsed for the printer via the network. When I send a test page, it queues, but never prints. Its as if the driver thinks the printer is local to the mac and just never finishes printing. THe configuration shows as: smb://dragoneye/CanonMP2 Where dragoneye is the name of the Windows XP server and the CanonMP2 is the little multi-purpose printer. My other Windows' CPU can setup and print. Is this a known problem or am I missing a setting??

  I host multiple domains on a GoDaddy shared hosting account. I would like to setup a website locally in IIS 7 that mimics the setup of my hosted account so that I can test and debug applications locally before deploying, as debugging after deploying, or discovering there are issues after deploying is frustrating. I have created a folder WebRoot, at put my main application in that folder. I created a website in IIS 7 and pointed it at that folder. I setup bindings with a fake domain, and created a matching entry in my hosts file to make the fake domain point at my 127.0.0.1. I then created a folder www.otherdomain.com under webroot. I then created an application underneath my website, and pointed it at this folder. I can't find how I can add bindings to the web application to have it referenced as a different fake domain, rather than a subdirectory under my root domain. What would be the proper way to setup IIS to best simulate the environment on the GoDaddy servers.

  I'm using a shared hosting to host my website and have some problems with files from time to time. First, one of my file (php) was missing a part of code (nothing to do with hackers just a random piece of code was missing), then after some time a value inside a mysql table was also missing a part, then a whole table column disappeared, after that a whole file on my site disappeared and lastly again some code from a file disappeared, my hosting service says it has nothing to do with them, but this is stupid, how can this happen, no hacker attack could do such a thing, I believe it's some kind of a disk corruption or bad backup.   I have two computers set up like this: \\myPC (local Windows 7 SP1 machine); it is in domain1; \\remotePC (Win Server 2008 with SQL Server - a HyperV virtual machine); it is in domain2. In domain2 active directory, I have a user account RemoteAccount. I would like to give this account full permissions to a shared folder located on \\myPC, i.e. folder \\myPC\SharedFolder. The problem is, when I right-click the folder and go to sharing permissions, I can't add permissions for the domain2\RemoteAccount user, because this user cannot be found - I can only see domain1 users. When I click 'Locations' in "Select users, computers, service accounts, or groups" dialog, I only see domain1. Is there a way to do this?

So each player would be polling the server for the current game status every X milliseconds (let's say 200ms). I'm mounting /dev/shm with 4Gb on board. mount -o remount,size=4G /dev/shm Will this memory be strictly reserved for shared memory or if /dev/shm is empty this memory could be used by regular applications (web server, php etc.)? PS:Sorry for my English. I'm asking it because I've just checked df -h and found tmpfs 6.0G 0 6.0G 0% /dev/shm on 8Gb RAM sever. I don't know who made this setup, but it seems to me awful.   I have two computers: A (running Windows Vista) B (running XP). I shared C: on computer A (as \\A\C ), and require a username (X) plus pw to access it. If I browse the the share \A\C on computer B, after entering username+pw I can access most folders, but one folder "\\A\C\F" gives me "permission denied". I looked at that folder's permissions on A, and it has full access permissons for all "Administrators". I use the account "A\X" to authenticate when accessing the share on A. X is a user account (on A) that is an "Administrator" according to Window's user management. Still, I cannot access this folder. If I explicitly add the "X" account to the accounts that may access folder F (under Properties / Security), I can access it without problems. I do not understand why I need to explicitly grant permission for X to get access to F. Is it not enough that X is an Administrator account?

  VMWare player 4.0.1 build-528992 I added a file to a shared directory in Windows 7. When I ls -l that directory in Ubuntu 11 it looks like: (2nd line) ls: cannot access item_spec.rb: No such file or directory -rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 300 2012-01-11 12:05 user_spec.rb -????????? ? ? ? ? ? item_spec.rb How can I get the folder to "refresh"? I need to use this file in Ubuntu. I think it will be present if I restart the VM, but that seems excessive. This looks like a bug.   My department creates a shared calendar for everyone to enter their out-of-office times. This requires duplicate entry for those of us who keep all our info in our own Exchange calendar. Is there a way in Exchange to create a View that's simply a combination view of multiple users' calendars? For example, we would create a view with all the departments' users calendars combined, but only those marked "out of office". Ideally, the subject line would also include the user's name, but this would not be 100% necessary.
