  • Strange activity in My Pictures folder: Thumbnail doesn't match actual picture.

    After finding an amusing picture on a popular imageboard, I decided to save it. A few days past and I was browsing my images folder when I realised that the thumbnail generated by Windows XP in the thumbnails view did not match the actual image. Here is a comparison image: What's even stranger in this situation is that the parts of the photograph that are different have actually been replaced with what might be the correct background. Furthermore, it is a jpeg (no PNG transparency tricks) that is 343 kilobytes but only 847x847 pixels wide. What could be going on here? Could there be anything malicious in the works, or hidden data? Before anyone asks, I have checked and preformed the following: Deleted Thumbs.db to reload thumbnails. Opened image in different editors. (they appear with the text) Moved image to a different directory. Changed the extension to .rar. All these steps produce the same results. Pre actual posting update: It seems that opening the image in paint, changing the image entirely (deleting entire contents and making a red fill) will still generate the original thumbnail, even after deleting Thumbs.db etc. I'm also hesitant to post the original data, in case there is something malicious or hidden that could be potentially illegal. (Although it would be very beneficial to see if it works on other computers and not just my own).

SP1 is scheduled to run hourly, SP2 daily at 7.00 and SP3 on sundays at 8.00 Reading MP history I see that what happened (I know it seems crazy) is: 11: SP1 runs and executes all the tasks of SP1 SP2 and SP3 12: SP2 runs and does the same 13: SP3 runs and does the same 14: SP1 runs and does the same From the job Activity monitor, SP1 has last run time at 14, SP2 and SP3 are never been executed. All of the SP are scheduled correctly in the Job Activity Monitor (SP2 for tomorrow at 7, SP3 for next sunday at 8) Do you have any idea what is happening? Thankx a lot Wentu

    So i have the following kinect click function which will check if the hand is within the bounds then it will click with a counter . . however there is a slight problem . .the first few button clicks work fine.. but after it clicks one of the buttons it changes the game state and immediately clicks the other button without the counter reaching 200. . .   • Less reboots on Windows Server Core, is this true or just a myth?

    Because there are less components installed on a Windows Server core OS, it needs less patches than the full OS. I read in several places that therefor it needs less reboots after patching. I'm running Server 2012 core in production since September 2012 now and I don't remember a single patch-Tuesday when I did not have to reboot the server after installing Windows updates. Are there any hard numbers out there that compare the required reboots for core vs. Full OS? Less reboots may be the main reason why people choose to go with Server core. If it actually requires just as many reboots as the full OS install, they may think again the next time they set up a server.

  • Lots of strange IP addresses in my Windows Firewall logs. Concern?

    Was trying to debug a Samba sharing issue with Mac OS X so I turned on logging for my Windows Firewall. I didn't expect a lot of conections but the thing filled up quickly. But some of the others resolve to Comcast (my ISP) and others resolve to weird hosts like van-dns.com and navisite.net. It doesn't look like any connection sent/received any bytes.   • Strange issue ! Local network cache of PHP and Apache2 on Win Server 2008 R2

    Software configuration : I have a new Server with windows server 2008 R2 installed via VMWare. I have installed Apache2.2, PHP5.2 and MySQL5.5 as separated packages. Issue : On my first installation of my application all works great. When I updated some JS and CSS files then I access to my application again from a PC on local network I get the old JS and CSS versions! But when I access to the same application on local server I got the latest versions of those files! Link of my application on local server is : http://localhost/BADIL Link of my application from local network is : http://LOCAL_SERVER_IP/BADIL I never had this kind of issue! I think that there are some cache but I don't know where! Maybe on Win Server 2008 R2 or on VMWare ! The question is : Why when I access to my application on the server all works fine, but when I access to the same application from a local network I have the old version of JS and CSS files?? Any one can help me please?! Regards.

    Hi, I've been having a problem for a while now with VMWare Workstaion. (Originally with 6.5, but now with 7.0 and 7.0.1 too). The problem occurs when I choose to shut down a guest. VMWare itself seems to hang. If I choose to shut down a guest that's opened full screen, and during the process I minimise the screen to work on other applications in the host, often (not all the time) when I return to the guest I have a 'greyed out' screen and the system becomes unresponsive. The host O/S still seems to be working, but I am unable to switch to other applications. (I can bring up the taskbar on the host and 'see' other applications and even switch to them, but VMWare still stays 'on top' being unresponsive). I can not terminate VMWare even when windows says that the application has become unresponsive and gives me the option to terminate. VMWare stays on top, and I'm forced to either shutdown, or log off and log back on in order to regain control of my computer. This happens with both Windows 7 and Windows Vista guest operating systems (32 bit), and I have had it happen on multiple host machines, and multiple guest machines too. Current Host: Windows 7 64 bit, 8GB Ram, 500GB HDD, i7 Processor. I have been searching for more than 6 months for a solution but have found none, so finally decided to post here. Does anyone know what might be causing the problem (+or even how to minimize the VM so I can at least access any other applications and save work before forcing a logoff / reboot+) would be extrememly handly. If I know the correct keystrokes to save and close in an application on the host I can do this by task-switching to the desired app to save and close successfully, but I can't see what I'm doing because VMWare Workstation is still on-top 'greyed' out.   • Connection String Incorrectly Formatted [migrated]

    I'm running into some issues. Every time I launch into debug mode and hit the "Create User" button, I'm getting an exception being thrown that is due to the Connection String either being in the wrong syntax or just wrong. Using Visual Studio 2010, project is .NET 3.5 with SQL 2008 Express. This is just a personal project that I'm testing some other things with, I know this generally isn't the recommended format but for a personal small project, I don't see the point in doing it any other way. The things I'm testing actually work :) Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|Data Directory|ASPAppDatabase.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True That doesn't work. Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="|Data Directory|ASPAppDatabase.mdf";Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True Neither does that. Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename='|Data Directory|ASPAppDatabase.mdf';Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True And again, neither does that :/ However, rather than using "|Data directory| if I use the full path to the local DB file it works just fine and no exception is thrown, and I can read and write as I need. And just to cover all my bases, here is the button click event that creates the User. protected void btnAddUser_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Membership.CreateUser(txtUserName.Text, txtPassword.Text); btnLogin_Click(sender, e); } So, what am I missing in regards to the |Data Directory|?   • Strange 400 error with IIS 7.5 and a webservice?

    Ok, this is a longshot. I have been pondering this for hours. I have no clue how to solve this. But maybe someone here can recognize the problem and point me to right direction. I have an IIS 7.5 server and a MSSQL database on a different server. On the IIS server there is a webservice that communicates with the MSSQL server. The problem is that when there is data that the MSSQL server needs to send back to the webservice and the webservice delivers that back to the webbrowser (JSON) i get a 400 error. Looking through the logs for the IIS there is just a 400....nothing more. When i put in a call to the service in my browsers URL field i get this: "The server encountered an error processing the request. Please see the service help page for constructing valid requests to the service." There is NOTHING wrong with how i call the webservice. It has worked before on a different server (a dev server). Do someone have a clue on what this can be about? 400 means malformed URL...it isn´t. And why is that when there are no data to return to the user...everything works. But when there is data fetched from the MSSQL DB...the 400 error shows up. Hope someone have some tips how to solve it. Thanx in advance.

  • Strange File-Server I/O Spikes - What Is Causing This?

    I am currently having a problem with a small Linux server that is providing file-sharing services to four Windows 7 32-bit clients. The server is an AMD PhenomX3 with two Western Digital 10EADS (1TB) drives, attached to a Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 mainboard and running Ubuntu Server 10.04.1 LTS. The client machines are taking an extremely long time to access/transfer data on the file server. Applications often become non-responsive while trying to open files located remotely, or one program attempting to open a file but having to wait will prevent other software from accessing network resources at all. Other examples include one image taking 20 seconds or more to open, and in one instance a user waited 110 seconds for Microsoft Word 2007 to save a document. I had initially thought the problem was network-related, but this appears not to be the case. All cables and switches have been tested (one cable was replaced) for verification. This was additionally confirmed when closing down all client machines and rebooting the server resulted in the hard-drive light staying on solid during the startup process. For the first 15 minutes during boot, logon and after logging on (with no client machines attached), the system displayed a load average of 4 or higher. Symptoms included waiting several minutes for the logon prompt to appear, and then several minutes for the password prompt to appear after typing in a user name. After logon, it also took upwards of 45 seconds for the 'smartctl' man page to appear after the command 'man smartctl' was issued. After 15 minutes of this behaviour, the load average dropped to around 0.02 and the machine behaved normally. I have also considered that the problem is hard-drive-related, however diagnostic programs reveal no drive problems. Western Digital DLG, Spinrite and SMARTUDM show no abnormal characteristics - the drives are in perfect health as far as the hardware is concerned. I have thus far been completely unable to track down the cause of this problem, so any help is greatly appreciated. Requested Information: Output of 'free' hxxp://pastebin.com/mfsJS8HS (stupid spam filter) The command 'hdparm -d /dev/sda1' reports: HDIO_GET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device (the BIOS is set to AHCI - I probably should have mentioned that).

  • Strange Windows Server 2008 R2 (FTP Server) Error - Caused by a specific combination of characters in the filename of uploaded file

    We are running Windows Server 2008 R2, which is setup to be a FTP server. Everything seemed to be working fine until one our our cilents started complaining about their uploads being halted with the message "Connection with server reset". Further diagnosis revealed that a specific combination of characters in the filename will cause a repeatable error. I am hoping that a form expert can confirm the error or perhaps provide a solution. This is an example filename that will always cause the error: REPORT_FILED_000000001 (extension does not matter) Any help would be greatly appreciated! We need files named like this to work properly with our FTP server.

  • Strange Phantom Local Disks appearing in my drive list...

    Win7 Home Prem 32 bit I seem to have several phantom Local Disks mapped to different letters, they are of 0 bytes in size? Strangely they do not show up when i view my drives through windows explorer but if i open an application such as ACDSee Pro or MS Word and then go to open a file i can see all these Local Disks mapped to different letters. This means when i plug in my external hard disk it ends up mapped to letter R instead of its usual G which messes up any programs i have pointing to it by default. How did they get there and more importantly how do i get rid of them please??

One day traffic One week traffic As you can see, there are bursts of spikes to over 20 megs of outgoing traffic. There is always a lower of outgoing data, before the burst. Is there any command I could use to know with application is causing this? Sorry I couldn't express using the best form.

  • NGINX + PHP-FPM - Strange issue when trying to display images via php-gd / readfile - Connection wont terminate

    Ok, to get the details out of the way: The php script can be anything as simple as: <? header('Content-Type: image/jpeg'); readfile('/local/image.jpg'); ?> When I try to execute this via nginx + php-fpm what happens is the image shows up in the browser, here is what happens: IE - The page stays blank for a long period of time, and eventually the image is shown. Chrome - The image shows, but the loading spinner spins and spins for a long period of time. Eventually the debugger will show the image in red as in error, but the image shows up fine. Everything else on the server works great. Its pushing out about 100mbit steady serving static content. So this is definatly a php-fpm related issue. I THINK this may have something to do with the chunked encoding being sent back wrong? Also, I threw in a pause before the image was read, and got the pid of the fpm process, and it looks as tho its terminatly correctly (from strace): shutdown(3, 1 /* send */) = 0 recvfrom(3, "\1\5\0\1\0\0\0\0", 8, 0, NULL, NULL) = 8 recvfrom(3, "", 8, 0, NULL, NULL) = 0 close(3) = 0 The above was dumped long before ie/chrome decided to give up (even tho the image was shown) loading the image. Displaying HTML / text content is fine. Big bodies etc all load nice and fast and terminate right away (as they should). Doing something like: THIS IS THE IMAGE ---BINARY DUMP OF IMAGE--- Works fine too. Any ideas?

  • strange memory usage pattern on windows server 2008 on login through remote desktop..

    I'm running Windows Server 2008 Datacenter Service Pack 2 on a VM Ware instance with 10Gb ram allocated. I'm not running IIS or SQL Server. Under 'normal' conditions, the machine uses ~5.5Gb of memory. However, when I login to the server through remote desktop, the memory usage slowly climbs up to 9.8Gb of memory in use. After several minutes the memory slowly creeps back down to the 5.5Gb mark. I've tried killing all the processes associated with my login, on login, barring the taskmanager without success, and I can't see any process that is growing in memory usage when the memory is increasing. I'm assuming this is some system level cache that is growing / shrinking... but why is it doing this?

  • How do I fix this strange Windows 7 menu behavior?

    On my Windows 7 64bit Pro install, for no apparent reasons, all menus suddenly align with their right side lined up with the menu item, rather than the traditional left side. This happens regardless of what may be crowding the screen or menus. If I maximize the app, all the first sets of menu items will open with their menu slammed against the left side of the screen. Anyone have any idea what this might be or how I can revert to default behavior?

  • My ifelse statement's result depends on the actions for true/false?

    Currently I am building a route for a truck to drive inside my netlogo-land. When the truck is next to the shop-patch where it should deliver, the truck needs to change its actions. However my if or ifelse statement does not seem to respond well and the answer depends on the output. With some tests: turtles ifelse ((patch (first dirx) (first diry)) = one-of neighbors4) [write "11"] [write "22"] "11" turtles ifelse ((patch (first dirx) (first diry)) = one-of neighbors4) [write "111"] [write "122"] "122" turtles ifelse (patch (first dirx) (first diry)) = one-of neighbors4 [write "111"] [write "122"] "122" turtles ifelse (patch (first dirx) (first diry)) = one-of neighbors4 [write "11"] [write "12"] "12" turtles ifelse (patch (first dirx) (first diry)) = one-of neighbors4 [write "11"] [write "22"] "11" Please note that during this time I do not move my truck, I use the command center to ask these questions (from turtle truck perspective). I am very confused about this. As the only thing I change is the action (what to write). This should not impact the true/false statement itself. Does anybody have any clue what is going on here and why the ifelse responds strange?
