• Protecting IP for scripting projects

  There are some tasks where the obvious language choice is with scripting languages: bash, Python, Ruby, Tcl... however I find it hard to protect a company IP once the product is delivered because the application is never compiled. The client will have complete access to every single line of code. Which one are the choices to protect a product IP when it is best implemented with scripting languages? (switching to a compiled language such as C++ should not be an option) I know that some interpreted languages can be compiled, but there are cases where the process can be inverted

• Actionscript 3.0 Get all instances of a class?

  I got a ton of movieclips in a class. I want to turn every single instance in the class interludeIntro invisible, but I want to turn specific instances visible later.   I have a table, MapLocation, which has a column and two relationships with tables that have a field that really need to be displayed as a single concatenated value. I was thinking this was a perfect case for a computed column, but not sure how to go about it. MapLocation MaoNo Section _____________________ _____________________ _____________________ MapNoId MapNoId SectionId SectionId MapNumber (int) Section (int) Identifier (nvarchar) LocationName (nvarchar) LocationName = "MapNUmber - SectionNumber - Identifier" ex: 20 - 03 - SW4 How would I write that? I haven't done much with computed columns or concatenating in SQL. Edit: I need an actual computed column that is automatically updated, im looking for the formula. Or is this more of a function/trigger? Its possible, I certainly barely know what I'm doing. The idea is that I dont want to have to do two more server calls and concatenate these values client side.

  I had made a windows service in visual studio 2008 in C#.inside the service i had written only single line code try { System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(@"E:\Users\Sk\Desktop\category.txt"); } catch { } then i add the project insatller & change the serviceProcessInstaller1 Account proerty as local system Also change the serviceInstaller1 start type proerty as Automatic. then i build the project.it was succesfull. after that i add another project that was setup project.i had added pprimary project output & i had added the custom action as "Primary output from DemoWindowsService (Active)".then buil the setup.setup was build sucessfully.then i install the setup & then went to services start the service.service stated properly butit was not performing the task. i had checked the path is correct & also i tried to do System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(@"E:\Windows\system32\notepad.exe") but still result is same.i tried alot but not getting the ans soleasse help me to solve this problem.

  What I'm looking for is something like materialized views in front-end that shows my data in diffident ways without full recalculation. let's say I have stock watcher with many front-end views and dashborads some based on aggregation, order by or just filter with different criteria defined realtime by user. Now, I receive online record updates from some webservice and it's not like "data warehouse" every single record can be updated any time and it actually happens every second. Is there any technology can help me in such I create something like materialized view and it's update it without doing full recalculation every time data changed. Thank you.

• How to include file from seperate remote folder in Netbeans (PHP Development)

  I have a PHP project setup in Netbeans (v6.8) where all the PHP files are on a remote server and in a single directory. Whenever I save files locally they are updated on the remote server via SFTP. I now need to edit a remote JavaScript file to add some jQuery logic but the file is located within a different directory on the webserver. How to I add this JavaScript file such that when it is saved or updated it is transferred to it's own location on the server? When I attempt to create the file locally within NetBeans it saves to the same directory as my PHP files. I would like to be able to continue using NetBeans rather than doing this all manually using an SFTP client and a text editor. Thanks in advance.

• Unable to use JAR in Eclipse

  Hi guys, I have just created my first JAR in Eclipse, just a simple program with a single class Database.class. It is not in a package. public class Database { public Database() { int dbInit = 1; } } I have added it as an external JAR to the build path libraries for another project in Eclipse, but for some reason I cannot get Database db = new Database(), the default constructor, to work - it's as if the contents of the JAR are not being recognised.   I have a stored procedure on a busy database which constantly come out top in the list of expensive queries (by some way). The query is very simple, it takes a single parameter (@ID, int) which is the primary key of the table, and selects the record that matches that ID. The primary key is an identity field with a clustered index, so I am stumped as to how to optimise this any further? • Can I define which characters are allowed to 'break' a word?

  Hey guys, I'm showing up veeeery long URLs in my Safari extension. Obviously, they can't fit on a single line. Currently, word breaking rules make it so most URLs are on two lines: the first one is rather short and ends with the ? symbol, and the other is ridiculously long and contains all the rest of the GET parameters. I'd like to make it so words also break on the & symbol, without screwing up copy-paste if possible. I've tried to replace every & with &\u00ad (& + the soft hyphen character), but it's kind of weird to see the hyphen after the & when there really isn't any in the URL. I thought there was something in store with CSS3 for that kind of problem, but I can't find it. Any suggestion welcome, as long as it works with Safari.

  Hello, I am writing a backend application which needs to be able to send multiple SQL commands to a MySQL server. MySQL = 5.x support multiple statements, but unfortunately we are interfacing with MySQL 4.x. I am trying to find a way (hint: regex) to split SQL statements by their semicolon, but it should ignore semicolons in single and double quotes strings. http://www.dev-explorer.com/articles/multiple-mysql-queries has a very nice regex to do that, but doesn't support double quotes. I'd be happy to hear your suggestions.

  Most of my websites in the past have been rather limited to the United States when it came to displaying addresses. On a project I'm working on right now, however, users can add events from all over the world. My problem is how to go about dealing with the different way in which addresses are displayed across the world. For example, City/State/Zip is just a US thing. I was figuring I would alter the inputs displayed based on the country selected but I have no idea how I'm supposed to know the way every single country does addresses. Ideas?

  I'm working out details on a web application which involves the sequential loading of a long series of (very short) video clips, one after the other, with occasional input from the user establishing new directions for which video clips to load. I would like to be able to have the browser preload the video clips five at a time. However, the way that we currently have the site working is by means of a single video element which is having its src attribute continually updated through JavaScript. So, my question is, is there a straightforward way I can get the browser to preload multiple video clips even though I am ultimately loading them all (one at a time) into the same video element? This is my first question here, so let me know if I could have phrased that better...

  Hello! I'm doing some Delphi (2010) work this summer, and I've stumbled upon this problem: My project consists of reusable backend library and a bunch of GUIs that tap into its interface. In this circumstances I've decided to make the backend and GUIs separate projects within single project group (I hope my train of thought is correct). The problem is, how can I include units from the backend in a GUI project? I've tried to modify Project Options > Directories and Conditionals but compiler still complains about being unable to find proper .dcu's. Any ideas? Your help will be appreciated.

  Hi, I have an EAR that is made up of two modules. Both expose services and share common code. Imagine that the ear has a common.jar shared by a webservices.war and webapp.war. I use log4j to log the activities. I would like to be able to have two log files (webservices.log and webapp.log) capturing the events that are specific to each of them plus all the stuff that is handled by the common.jar. How should I configure my categories and my appenders to achieve this? At the moment I have the following packages: com.myapp for shared stuff com.myapp.webservices for the webservices and com.myapp.webapp for the webapp. My problem is that I don't know how I can capture the com.myapp (common stuff) in both log files by using a single log4j configuration file. I have tried setting up multiple configuration files but when JBoss would work OK Websphere would break and the other way round... Thank you

• Are there any real life uses for the Java byte primitive type?

  For some inexplicable reason the byte primitive type is signed in Java. This mean that valid values are -128..127 instead of the usual 0..255 range representing 8 significant bits in a byte (without a sign bit). This mean that all byte manipulation code usually does integer calculations and end up masking out the last 8 bits. I was wondering if there is any real life scenario where the Java byte primitive type fits perfectly or if it is simply a completely useless design decision? EDIT: The sole actual use case was a single-byte placeholder for native code. In other words, not to be manipulated as a byte inside Java code.
